Did Jaylen Brown Cross the Line on his Twitch? | Ball Up Top | Andscape
Andscape
0:02 It is ball up top.
0:06 Second round time.
0:08 First round's over.
0:09 Chuck, we had I had I had so much I wanted to talk about.
0:13 There was magic falling apart in game six, losing that series.
0:18 Uh going about an hour and a half without scoring a bucket.
0:20 Like you could there was a whole season finale
0:23 of the pit that I could have watched between them making shots.
0:27 Uh there is, you know, the the Lakers moving past the Rockets.
0:32 There's all this stuff to talk about,
0:35 but this is essentially an emergency pod
0:37 because we're throwing all that out the window and we're going to talk about
0:42 Jaylen Brown and his Twitch account.
0:44 Like this basically what we're going to talk about.
0:46 Like that's all we can talk about right now is Jaylen Brown hopping on Twitch.
0:49 Uh first of all, what do you think about it?
0:51 So I I like Jaylen Brown and one thing I saw about him conversation
0:56 about this whole truth thing is like he's a pseudo intellectual and I was like
1:01 is is he like I I like him so much that I
1:05 hate that these conversations are even coming about from him doing this.
1:09 It was a no for me.
1:10 A big no.
1:10 So, for those do not know, Jaylen Brown,
1:13 the Boston Celtics blew a 3-1 lead to the Philadelphia 76ers,
1:18 which we could talk about some of the things
1:19 that they did to contribute to that loss.
1:22 Um, but Philadelphia played really well.
1:26 Like, this was Joel Embiid.
1:27 They were like stretching the dude
1:29 on the sidelines like trying to like, you know,
1:31 it looked like like what I need when I wake up
1:34 in the morning like to try to like get my my side everything together.
1:37 Like he it felt like it felt like
1:39 when you have indigestion that's what you think
1:42 you need somebody to do to like pull the like the little pocket of like whatever
1:47 out the side.
1:48 Have you ever webbed M andD something and you're like
1:51 oh dude and you're like no so I'mma just do this.
1:53 Yeah.
1:54 Yeah.
1:54 That's it.
1:54 Right.
1:55 Right.
1:55 That's that's exactly what it's like if that don't work for three days I'mma go
1:58 to the doctor but like I'mma do that for three days first.
2:00 Like that's what it looked like they were doing.
2:02 So Tyrese Maxi played out of his mind.
2:04 They couldn't stop him.
2:05 Paul George look like not prime Paul George but the Paul
2:08 George that you want BJ Edgecomb which is who
2:12 who has become like a top 10 favorite player for me
2:15 just to watch because I love watching just a rookie
2:17 just know how to play basketball like it's so weird to like he just knows
2:21 how to be everywhere that you're supposed to be
2:25 speaking of Jaylen Brown his defense that back that oh
2:28 my goodness I I loved every second of that
2:30 yeah VJ like it's just incredible right
2:32 like they're just the team played great Oh,
2:35 Joel Embiid with I think 34 and 12 in game seven.
2:38 Yes.
2:38 Like they were able to come back.
2:41 No harm, no foul.
2:42 Jason Tatum doesn't play game seven.
2:44 It's okay.
2:44 The Celtics had what I think was a good story going into the off seasonason,
2:51 which is nobody expect them to be where they are.
2:54 They make it to the number two in the East.
2:56 Yes, they shoot too many threes.
2:58 Yes, their offense fell apart.
3:00 Yes, they had all the bad habits, but in still you were kind of playing
3:03 with this like house money sort of situation, right?
3:07 Yeah.
3:06 Everything's okay.
3:07 We're good, right?
3:09 And then Jaylen Brown decides to do exactly this.
3:15 What we we have video of what of of Jaylen Brown what he did.
3:20 Flopping has ruined our game.
3:21 Jol is a great player, one of the best bigs in basketball history.
3:28 Flops.
3:30 He know it.
3:30 This ain't this ain't breaking news.
3:36 I appreciate his dedication to like making
3:40 it seem like he's saying something profound.
3:42 Like he kind of he got the back he got the uh the sound drops in the back.
3:46 He He's just doing everything to make you think he's saying outfit.
3:49 Look at the He got the glasses on.
3:50 He look like Loren Tate Love Jones out here trying to like
3:54 speak prophetic about this when basically all you're doing is complaining.
3:59 All you doing is complaining because you lost.
4:01 Like you look like a sore loser, man.
4:03 Like you Nobody came out of this series saying Joel Embiid flopped too much.
4:07 Nobody said that.
4:08 Everybody came out the series and said Joel Embicked your ass.
4:10 And then it could not it could not also
4:14 be part of this when there's video of you.
4:17 I don't know if you've seen the clip.
4:18 There's a video of Joel Embiid catching the ball and Jaylen Brown
4:23 falling out of bounds as if they got hit by A TRUCK.
4:26 NOBODY NOBODY TOUCHED HIM.
4:28 NOBODY TOUCHED HIM.
4:29 Everybody flops.
4:30 Jaylen Brown, that is not the reason you lost this series.
4:33 You lost the series cuz you shot like 20% from three in all of your losses.
4:38 You forgot how to attack the paint.
4:39 Like that was a problem.
4:40 I think when we talked about Jaylen Brown's ascension as a player this season,
4:46 part of it was because his mid he found this mid-range, right?
4:49 He learned how to dribble with his left hand and he found his mid-range.
4:54 And you look at a guy like Tatum,
4:56 he comes in and he could add 28 and eight or something like that.
5:00 And that was the winning formula.
5:02 They forgot all of those things in that series.
5:06 They shot too many threes.
5:08 They kept missing shots.
5:09 And it was like you are now doing what made you lose before.
5:15 Like we talked about this previously,
5:17 the Boston Celtics, all they do is lose to inferior teams.
5:22 Like if you go through the Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown history,
5:25 they lose to teams they should not lose to.
5:28 Go back to last year.
5:30 They should have beat that Knicks team.
5:32 They were up 20 in games one and two.
5:34 They win a championship and we could talk about the the championship that nobody
5:38 was healthy in the teams they played
5:40 and they played a overmatched Dallas Maverick.
5:42 Did you put an asteris?
5:44 But they won a champ.
5:44 NO, THEY WON A CHAMPIONSHIP.
5:45 They still won a championship.
5:47 It's okay.
5:47 They still won a championship.
5:49 23.
5:50 You go out there and lose to Miami.
5:51 Heat team that you should not lose to.
5:53 You come back for 3 0 and you still get blown out in game seven 22.
5:57 You're up 2-1 against the Warriors at home.
6:00 Stephen Curry goes crazy.
6:02 Should not have lost that.
6:03 Like you keep on going back
6:05 to a team the teams that like even you go way way back to 2018
6:11 when you lose to LeBron with nobody with nobody on the right.
6:15 You lose to to LeBron and nobody like
6:17 that the the history of the Celtics is they play too close.
6:21 They play to their competition too often in the playoffs.
6:25 This is another example of that.
6:26 So, I agree with everything you say because
6:29 the Celtics are to to me a real overachiever.
6:33 Not just this well, they're overachiever this year,
6:36 but they're underachievers in this era.
6:38 Um, they've been to the they've been to the conference finals five, six times.
6:43 And even with that one ring,
6:45 it's really hard to be like, this is this is what this Celtics team is.
6:49 This is what this era has provided.
6:52 It's provided multiple coaches, Eay and Joe Mazoula.
6:55 Oh, I'm sorry, three coaches.
6:56 Eay, Joe Mazula, Brad Stevens.
6:58 It's done all these things, but nothing has really stuck.
7:02 And I think to Jaylen Brown's his whole twist thing,
7:06 this is going to be ultimately how we think of this Celtics team.
7:10 a team that maybe could have been great, maybe could have been dynasty like,
7:15 but for some reason just never ever did it all,
7:20 but then they'll have that championship and they're
7:22 going to be able to hold on to this.
7:23 But it's looking a lot more like the '08
7:25 Celtics than any version of the 80 Celtics.
7:28 And I think a lot of people thought it was going to be more like that than 08.
7:32 And it really feels more like 08 now.
7:34 Yeah.
7:34 It feels like a one-off type of like it feel like when you
7:36 have a team like look at look at Denver on the other side, right?
7:39 Denver on the other side,
7:40 they had six years of really real title contention, right?
7:44 Like they had conference finals in the bubble.
7:48 Yeah.
7:48 They have a couple of Jamal Murray injury years, which is unfortunate.
7:51 You lose to Minnesota and se and seven.
7:54 You lose to OKC in seven.
7:56 Like these were kind of your yokage years to kind of make it.
7:59 Now you got to scrap together and pull together.
8:01 The Celtics have had pretty much like a decade
8:04 of this with Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum.
8:06 And I I forgot the bubble.
8:08 They lost to Miami in the bubble.
8:10 You got you like that was another upset.
8:12 Like these are these are missed opportunities and you had a chance
8:16 here to kind of sneak in and you did not do it.
8:20 And now Jaylen Brown, it's also important to note on this Twitch.
8:24 He said this was his favorite season.
8:26 So So I was going to ask you, does that bother you?
8:29 To me, of all the things he said,
8:31 I actually really wasn't that bothered by that part.
8:35 There were other things that bothered me more,
8:36 but that didn't bother me as much.
8:38 It seems that it that you didn't like
8:40 that you didn't take that the right you didn't
8:41 you won a championship man like you won
8:43 a champ like what what does it mean to what
8:45 does it mean what does it mean that your favorite
8:48 season is when Jason Tatum is not there
8:53 see and that's the part that I didn't want to acknowledge until I saw
8:57 everyone else and I said okay you guys have a point but but for me
9:01 if we're talking about playing basketball when
9:03 the season started everyone was talking about
9:05 how this team should be trying to go to the essentially go to the lottery.
9:10 How this was going to be such a great draft that if they could get
9:13 a top five pick with J Jason Tatum
9:16 coming back and Jaylen and all of these things,
9:18 how great the next 101 15 years of Celtics basketball would be.
9:23 Jaylen Brown heard that like he seems like a very prideful guy.
9:26 He heard that.
9:27 He from your neck of the woods.
9:28 I don't know Atlanta Cats to just be like I'mma sit
9:31 back and he heard that and I think he took that personally.
9:34 So for me from the se from for strictly
9:37 from a season standpoint he that seems like that makes
9:40 sense to me for strictly strictly from a I
9:43 want to go hoop and ball that makes sense.
9:45 Chuck you are you're a married man.
9:48 And so you know I'm I'm going give you this.
9:50 I'm going tell you this is exactly what when you when you
9:52 go out of town or when your partner goes out of town, right?
9:56 You know that the thing you don't want to do
9:58 is when they're out of town, you're out of town.
10:00 THEY CALL BE LIKE I'M HAVING the time of my life.
10:07 IT'S SO FUN HERE without you.
10:09 Like whether she like they're out of town,
10:11 you with the kids, you like, "Oh, it's running smooth.
10:13 Everything was cool.
10:14 We had pizza.
10:15 Baby's in the bed at no time.
10:17 Sitting having a blast." It's great when you after your work trip.
10:20 Or when you on your work trip, you don't want to be like, "I'm with the bros.
10:24 We having a good old time having a bl like you got to temper the conversation
10:29 when your number two is not around." Like you got to be like, "It was cool.
10:33 It was great." You know what I'm saying?
10:34 Me and the fellas had a couple drinks, but I'm just tired.
10:36 I really miss you.
10:37 All this stuff.
10:38 You can't say, "This is the greatest night
10:40 of my entire life." Because they not around.
10:43 Jason Tatum can't go on Twitch and be like,
10:45 "This is the greatest year of my life when your number two is on is
10:51 on the bench and not playing for most of the season." You can't do that.
10:54 You can't do that.
10:55 Listen.
10:55 Well, y'all right.
10:56 Y'ALL RIGHT.
10:56 YOU GOT ME.
10:57 YOU I CAN'T EVEN ARGUE.
10:59 But I want to bro Jay Jaylen Brown seems to be a guy
11:05 who feels like he is number one and has been relegated to number two.
11:09 Now we could argue whether he makes, you know, whether he's a ball stopper,
11:14 whether the Celtic team actually looks better with Jason Tatum leading the way,
11:18 all these things, but he's the one with the finals MVP.
11:21 He's the one with the Eastern Conference uh MVP.
11:24 He's the one who, for all intents of purposes, has the hardware.
11:29 So, he doesn't need to say what you say.
11:31 I could go back and bank on this uh finals,
11:34 bank on this MVP, but that's not enough.
11:37 This was the actual proof in in particular to a large
11:41 group of people who didn't believe he was that good.
11:44 So, like I said, you're not wrong,
11:46 but strictly from a the ego in me, I think I understand.
11:50 He was wilding for doing it on Twitch.
11:51 This you group chat.
11:53 You should group chat.
11:54 Hey, I kind of like it.
11:54 I kind of like it.
11:55 This why you putting a group chat, man.
11:57 my my my partner out of town, man.
11:59 It was kind of chill over in the crib.
12:00 I like like it being quiet.
12:01 You know what I'm saying?
12:02 YEAH.
12:02 I LIKE it over here.
12:03 That's
12:03 I like it over here.
12:05 Spread out to bed.
12:06 I was having a good old time.
12:07 Nobody, you know, like you can say those things.
12:10 Yes.
12:09 To the homies.
12:11 Yes.
12:11 You don't go on Twitch.
12:12 You don't want You tweet out, "A town.
12:15 Oh, the house is so so quiet and smooth." You don't do that.
12:18 Those are the things you don't And I actually do think that the Celtics
12:22 did kind of find something with Jaylen Brown as the primary scorer.
12:27 and Jason Tatum doing all of these other things.
12:29 The passing was so much better.
12:31 The problem was come playoff time, they forgot all of those things and went back
12:35 to all of those bad habits uh for the Celtics.
12:38 Like that was a problem.
12:39 But from a strictly basketball, cuz I love that you brought that point up.
12:43 Are we willing to make any concessions
12:45 that maybe Jason Tatum shouldn't have come back?
12:48 like him coming back and them having to do this uh game
12:53 of hey let's let's try to bring him back in well let's keep going
12:56 what this way let's keep going this way and then he gets hurt
13:00 and now nobody because I think in an in in the real world he
13:05 would have played but they don't want to risk even the idea
13:08 that something happens and now he's not we're doing this all over again next
13:12 year so I feel the caution for game seven in particular but you
13:18 guys knew this was always an option when you brought her back in March.
13:21 Like this wasn't something that you just kind
13:23 of stumbled upon a couple hours into game seven.
13:27 So I I start to ask some larger organizational questions.
13:32 So this is this is where I think they messed up with the Jason Tatum return
13:35 is that they could they should have looked
13:38 at the Celtics as currently constructed and said,
13:40 "What do we need to like without Jason Tatum,
13:42 what do we need to win the championship?" Right?
13:44 If I if I pulled this team out of thin air and said,
13:47 "We have Jaylen Brown who could score.
13:49 We have some young dudes who are in the center position.
13:52 We have Peyton Pritchard who's coming off the bench who can score.
13:54 We have Derek White is a little inconsistent,
13:56 but we're still the top one of the top offenses in the league.
13:59 Number one or two basically all season.
14:01 Top 10 defense in the league pretty much all season.
14:04 What would sort of round us out to get us a championship?" Right.
14:08 And I would say you need probably a strong role player role player
14:14 role playing type of guy to come off the bench or even play some,
14:16 you know, start wing minutes to give you put up 12 shots, get maybe 20 points,
14:23 get eight rebounds, some assists, play some good defense.
14:25 I think Jason Tatum, when he came back,
14:29 I thought they were going to fit him into that position,
14:31 right, as somebody who would be a help
14:34 to this team trying to get fill in the gap.
14:37 What they wanted is they tried to bring back Jason Tatum.
14:40 Exactly.
14:41 And I think that when you have Jason Tatum playing 40 minutes,
14:44 when you have him sharing the load with Jaylen Brown,
14:46 when you're saying we're gonna bring Jason Tatum back,
14:48 I think that throws things off.
14:50 And it also contributes to a dude who's not 100% having to sit out game seven.
14:55 Like I did not think that we would see a 40minute Jason Tatum until the finals.
14:58 And I do think there's a world in which this Boston Celtics
15:02 team can win a round or two with a 25minute Jason Tatum.
15:07 I don't understand why they felt the need to give us 40minute
15:10 Jason Tatum so fast in the regular season and in the playoffs.
15:15 Yeah.
15:16 Once again, that is ultimately my biggest concern with the Celtics is like,
15:21 did you guys actually think about this Jason Tatum
15:24 thing outside of you looked up in February and said,
15:28 "Oh, we're at the top of the East.
15:30 The East is weak.
15:31 We got a chance." And that kind of clouded everything else
15:34 because Veuvich I saw was on the bench and you traded
15:40 a potential guy who could have gave who I you how many
15:43 miss shots they missed 11 straight field goals to end that game.
15:46 I think Anthony Simmons could have hit a shot.
15:49 Yeah.
15:49 I'm just saying.
15:50 Yeah.
15:50 He he could like you they made
15:52 a whole bunch of questionable decisions there which leads
15:56 me to the questionable decision of like what
15:58 are you going to do with this offseason?
15:59 Like are we sure?
16:00 because I mean I don't know if we're sure that this is where
16:03 you want to go with this thing and and I like there there's
16:06 a lot of talk you know where I've been about getting rid
16:09 of the draft like the Celtics are are a perfect example of this because
16:13 it's hard to build around two max dudes like you're not going to get a situation
16:18 where a rookie is going to want to be the third max dude on a team.
16:21 Carmemelllo Anthony just said in an interview
16:24 he didn't want to be the fourth guy
16:26 on the Miami Heat third because like he felt like he would be better than that.
16:29 Now you have two guys who Jaylen Brown
16:33 now absolutely feels like this should be his team.
16:36 He is a He felt like he should win MVP.
16:37 He said he was the best two-way player in the league.
16:40 He just said things were great without Jason Tatum.
16:43 Now Jason Tatum is coming back and you've got
16:46 to pull this thing together with these two dudes.
16:48 I mean I don't know what this offseason looks like but I would not put
16:51 it past Boston to think about what it's going to look like with these two dudes.
16:55 I have been whispering maybe you get rid of one of the Jays
16:59 and and that would have sounded crazy last beginning of last
17:03 season but to your point JB did enough I think
17:08 for the league cuz prior to this if you were a JB truther
17:12 you were kind of you were on your own little island you
17:14 were you were screaming there's enough people from his performance this past
17:18 season regular season that I think you can sell him getting
17:21 his own team and acquiring the uh the proper package back for him.
17:26 So, it Boston has some uh actual questions, some real questions.
17:30 I will say this before before we wrap.
17:32 I will salute Jaylen Brown for doing this thing that was very important.
17:36 I think the Celtics were getting a little too likable.
17:39 Like, I think that we were starting to like the Celtics a little too much.
17:43 Jason Tatum coming back like this miraculous story
17:46 of this dude coming back from this Achilles.
17:48 Jaylen Brown being like a really just sort of having a really great season
17:52 and really being a nononsense type of dude like like this the Twitch thing
17:56 is hilarious but this guy was doing the press conference I'm the best two-way
17:59 player they went out there and shut Kawhi Leonard down and like ate his lunch
18:02 like he was having a great season I think Derek White is just
18:05 a cool dude like they were just looking like like Kada come like was looking
18:09 like a young stud like we was like wow I kind of like this Boston
18:12 team like we had this thing and Jaylen Brown was like hold your horses
18:17 let's remember that we can pout after losing that we go
18:21 on Twitch and I could put on my De Poetry Society, De Poetry Jam glasses,
18:26 and like talk about why I made a good
18:28 play and all how we were robbed, all these things.
18:30 It's okay to help hate Boston again.
18:32 So, shout out to Jaylen Brown for making him hatable again.
18:34 Your man went play by play, play by play, every I I was somewhat impressed.
18:42 Somewhat impressed.
18:43 You I can't lie.
18:43 Somewhat impressed.
18:44 broke open the Genius IQ and was like,
18:46 "Let's go through the games and run this thing on a It's It's You got to be,
18:51 you know, too online, bro.
18:52 Too online." Yes.
18:53 Exact.
18:53 And that's why I think he is too He cares too much.
18:56 He He cares too much.
18:58 So, all right.
18:58 So, I I we we had a whole lot of play I was talking about,
19:01 but Jaylen Brown kind of blew this whole thing
19:03 up cuz you can't go on Twitch like doing this.
19:06 You can't go lost.
19:08 You can't go on Twitch like that.
19:09 Bad bad bad idea jeans from uh Jaylen Brown.
19:12 Uh well, we will be back this week.
19:14 Remember, like and subscribe, leave a comment.
19:16 We're going to talk about uh some
19:18 of the games that have transpired in round two,
19:20 what we're expecting from round two, and uh you know,
19:23 more ball up top coming your way.
