22:46 her from the smile she so desperately needs, it has derailed her entire life.

22:52 My name is Alexandra and I am from Dayton, Ohio.

22:56 I came from like a really poor family and my teeth were really crooked.

22:59 So I got picked on a lot.

23:01 Around 14, 15, my parents started asking me what I wanted

23:04 for my sweet 16th birthday and so I asked them for braces.

23:11 My dad started saving up the money and my stepmom got into a wreck.

23:15 So the money that he had saved for me had to pay for her car.

23:19 Um, so that was really awful.

23:22 I actually dropped out of high school, went in the army.

23:25 I've been stationed in um, Germany.

23:27 I was also in Afghanistan.

23:29 I actually met a really great guy.

23:30 We got engaged, got married.

23:33 I decided to get braces on my own.

23:36 It was going really good, but my husband got really sick.

23:41 Brian, my husband, passed away in August of 2014.

23:45 I got into a motorcycle accident.

23:47 this lady got behind me and and hit my tire

23:51 and I broke uh these two teeth in the front.

23:53 They literally kind of caused like a chain reaction.

23:56 Grinding on top of that started causing my teeth to like cave

24:00 in and crush in on top of each other and break off right now.

24:04 Actually, I have like an infection.

24:06 My eye right here, it's numb.

24:09 I can't feel any of this.

24:10 It's affected my kidneys.

24:12 My blood pressure is really really low now.

24:14 You wake up and and it's it's pain.

24:17 Everything to eat or drink, not too hot, not too cold, super soft.

24:22 It's really just about eating to survive.

24:25 Lost a ton of weight.

24:26 I went from 130 to 109.

24:28 All of my clothes are huge on me.

24:30 When I take a shower, literally my hair comes out.

24:34 I choose to sleep upright in the garage.

24:36 Um, basically, because I'm afraid that my teeth are going

24:39 to fall out or I'm going to choke on them.

24:42 Honestly, the only time I really feel good is um my my fiance Steve.

24:46 Like, he's, you know, keeps telling me it'll be okay.

24:49 Steve's everything to me.

24:51 Um I'm sorry.

25:01 He's like he's my night and shining armor.

25:08 He found me through all this.

25:10 If it wasn't for him, there's no way that I would be able to do this.

25:14 He's the only reason I've I'm still here

25:17 right now and still keep going, fighting every day.

25:20 We were supposed to be married October 14th.

25:23 Um I had to cancel the wedding cuz we've never kissed.

25:26 We've been together for 3 years and we've never kissed.

25:29 It's very painful for me to pucker my lips.

25:31 I I didn't want to get married and not be able to kiss him.

25:35 I'm always afraid that everybody's judging me all the time, like looking at me.

25:38 Like we don't go out to eat.

25:39 cuz everybody automatically they see that you have bad teeth,

25:42 it's automatically drugs.

25:44 I literally feel like I'm dead.

25:46 I feel like my entire life's been put on hold

25:48 for the last 3 years and I haven't been able to do anything.

25:51 I wouldn't be able to smile and and kiss my boyfriend and and say I do and live.

26:08 When we heard about Alexandra's story, we knew we just couldn't sit back.

26:28 Um, but we don't really know how bad her teeth were.

26:35 On a scale of 1 to 10, a 12.

26:38 Wow.

26:38 That's how bad they were.

26:39 I mean, they literally crumbled in my hands when we took them out.

26:44 We took out 14 teeth.

26:47 14 teeth.

26:48 We did Da Vinci veneers on her lower teeth.

26:51 We did Da Vinci veneers on the upper teeth that were left.

26:54 We did a removable partial denture that's supported by implants.

26:58 My partner, Dr.

26:59 Lucel there, did most of the extractions and the implants.

27:03 I have Steve from OC Dental here who made her teeth.

27:06 And then Da Vinci did the lower teeth.

27:09 Can you explain?

27:10 It was a team.

27:11 It was a team of people.

27:12 But also, how was it affect affecting her health?

27:16 Yeah.

27:15 Oh my gosh.

27:16 It's completely changed it.

27:17 I mean, she was telling me her hair was falling out in clumps.

27:21 I mean, she felt sick.

27:23 She had an infection in her body.

27:26 It wasn't just about, you know,

27:28 how she's smiling and and and the aesthetics of it.

27:31 It affected her whole life damage every and her self-esteem.

28:36 Now, Steve, now we heard through um that she you guys have never kissed before.

28:43 What else besides the kissing made the teeth

28:46 just impossible like to have in your relationship?

28:49 Made it difficult.

28:50 Man, I tell you what, you know,

28:51 um uh every day was just searing mouth pain for two solid years.

28:57 Wow.

28:57 you know, I mean, I would have a a bad day at work and I'd come home and I'd

29:00 want to complain about something and I'd walk in and she's

29:02 double over on the bed trying not to cry,

29:05 you know, and it's just

29:06 you can only imagine how difficult that kind of stuff is.

29:09 And then to top it off, you know,

29:11 as the doctor referred to the all the health problems that come from it, right?

29:14 The constant infections.

29:16 Um, they had been working their way up into her face.

29:20 Um, what made you hang in there with the relationship with her?

29:23 Oh, I love her.

29:23 She's amazing.

29:25 She's amazing.

29:27 I'm happy.

29:28 Kayen, could you tell that your mom was in a lot of pain?

29:31 Oh my gosh.

29:32 Yes.

29:32 Um she would actually distance herself from us.

29:36 Um cuz she she's a big inspiration for me

29:39 because we've haven't like I haven't had a fatherly figure.

29:45 Um and it's always just kind of been me and her.

29:47 So she didn't want me to see her in pain.

29:49 So she would go into the attic or in the garage for just hours on end.

29:53 Oh wow.

29:54 And um sometimes you could just see it in her eyes.

29:57 She would like try to tell jokes or try like if I was in a bad mood,

30:01 she would try to bring me up and you I could just see

30:04 it in her eyes still that she was just in so much pain.

30:10 Wow.

30:09 And it was just it was hard cuz I just she I would go to school.

30:14 I would go I would have swim meets, basketball games.

30:18 Now you haven't seen her since the transformation, so we need to see her.

31:49 It was so hard.

31:51 It was extremely hard.

31:55 It was so incredibly hard because literally I

31:58 trained myself to um every time I would laugh

32:02 to bend over or um every time I would

32:06 smile to raise my hand in front of my face.

32:09 Um, and so just, you know, and I and I really never realized it until,

32:14 you know, I was here and they were like, "Hey, you know,

32:16 we want to take a picture of you smiling." And I'm like, you know,

32:19 and I like it, it like took me a few times to, you know, do it.

32:23 It was really hard.

32:24 I didn't realize how hard something like that would be.

32:26 So beautiful.

32:27 You look beautiful.

32:28 You don't have to cover.

32:31 It's still like takes time getting used to.

32:35 Alexandra, you said before that you felt like your life was on hold.

32:38 How has your life changed now?

32:41 Oh gosh.

32:41 Um it's everything like being able to go to work, my hands not shaking,

32:46 um not being um my kidneys not shutting down,

32:50 my um blood pressure not being so low.

32:54 I mean like I was dying.

32:55 I was literally dying.

32:56 Like it was killing me.

32:58 And and it's it's hard because um you know I uh

33:04 I'm in such good shape really, you know, physically and everything.

33:07 So, you know, I shouldn't have been having those kind of problems.

33:10 What has it been like to work with Dr.

33:12 Dorfman here throughout all of this?

33:15 He's he's awesome.

33:16 He is so so amazing.
