We Played Hide And Seek Across The U.K.

Jet Lag: The Game

0:02 Hello!

0:04 Welcome to my secret hiding spot.

0:07 Boys...

0:09 ...good luck finding me here.

0:18 We're about to play a six-day game of hide-and-seek across the UK.

0:21 Right now, we're the Seekers and we're starting in London.

0:23 While I had four hours to get to...

0:27 Well, I mean, I'm not gonna tell you where I am.

0:29 It's hide-and-seek.

0:30 I hide and then you don't...

0:32 you don't know where I am.

0:33 You have to figure it out.

0:35 Welcome to our six-day game of hide-and-seek across the United Kingdom.

0:39 The goal of this game is simple:

0:41 hide for as long as you can without being found.

0:43 Right now, Ben and I are starting in London as the Seekers,

0:46 while the first Hider,

0:47 Adam, had four hours to find a hiding spot anywhere else in the UK.

0:51 In order to find him,

0:52 we'll have to piece together information about his location

0:55 using the 62 questions in our Question Book.

0:58 Adam has to answer these questions truthfully, but in exchange,

1:01 he'll get to draw cards from the Hider Deck,

1:03 giving him big advantages like Time Bonuses or Curses

1:06 that he can use to slow us down.

1:08 Once we find Adam, positions will rotate,

1:10 and it will be someone else's turn to hide.

1:12 After the end of six days, the player with the longest single hiding run wins.

1:16 We'll go over all the nitty gritty rules later.

1:18 For now, Adam's clock is ticking.

1:20 So Ben and I need to look at our map and figure

1:23 out what to ask so we can start moving in Adam's direction.

1:26 What does the UK look like, Ben?

1:28 Adam is somewhere in here.

1:30 I think he's...

1:32 here.

1:34 It is 11 am...

1:36 which means that we should be expecting our first question any minute now.

1:39 I would say number one thing that I'm worried about is

1:42 that they figure out too early that I'm on the coast.

1:45 There are a few different questions they could ask that could tell them that.

1:49 So I think we just really have to hope that they

1:50 wait a little bit before they ask anything in that row.

1:55 Let's go into town, shall we?

1:57 We should probably ask a question 'cause we're burning time.

1:59 Yes, okay.

2:00 Well, there's many questions we can ask.

2:02 We've got our— Oh, in fact...

2:03 We've got our little Investigation Book.

2:05 Oh, wow.

2:06 With all of our questions.

2:08 So before we ask our first question,

2:09 I should explain what kind of questions we can ask.

2:12 In this game, our questions are broken up into six simple tools.

2:15 Matching questions allow us to check whether something about

2:18 our location is the same or different from Adam's.

2:20 Like, is his region the same as ours?

2:22 Is his nearest commercial airport the same as ours?

2:25 Things like that.

2:26 Measuring questions are similar,

2:27 but they allow us to check whether something is closer

2:29 to or further from Adam than it is from us.

2:32 Like, is he closer to an international border?

2:34 Is he closer to a coastline?

2:35 Et cetera.

2:36 The Thermometer allows us to ask whether we're hotter

2:38 or colder to Adam's location after we've traveled a certain distance.

2:41 The Radar can check whether Adam is or isn't within a certain distance of us,

2:45 and Photo questions allow us to ask Adam for a photo

2:48 of something like his train platform or the tallest mountain he can see.

2:51 Finally, we've got Tentacles,

2:53 a special tool for dealing with denser areas that we can explain later.

2:57 There's a lot of ways we can approach

2:58 this, but we've gotta figure out a strategy quickly.

3:01 I don't know exactly what— 'Cause we're kind of starting in a weird

3:04 place where we're all the way at the bottom of the map.

3:07 Yeah, but there is plenty west and south of here.

3:10 I mean, this would be risky, but we could be like,

3:12 are you in the same country as us?

3:14 Or is it country?

3:15 Is England a country?

3:16 Yeah.

3:17 What the— What is the UK?

3:18 It's a country of countries.

3:20 Okay, that is confusing.

3:22 If he is in another country, it's almost certainly Wales.

3:25 It's almost certainly Wales.

3:26 Because you could— He had four hours.

3:28 He could theoretically be in Scotland, but only the tiniest bit.

3:33 It either tells us immediately that he's almost certainly in Wales,

3:37 or it knocks out all of Wales, which is still pretty good.

3:40 That's pretty good, yeah.

3:41 It's a risky first question though.

3:43 Especially considering that I think we both agree

3:45 his first instinct would be to go to Wales.

3:47 'Cause Wales is cool.

3:48 Wales is cool.

3:48 And England is...

3:50 Way less cool than Wales.

3:52 Alright.

3:52 Look, I like starting with a risky question.

3:56 Let's ask him if he's in the same country as us.

3:58 Are you in England, Adam Chase?

4:03 Oh.

4:05 Folks, we've gotten our first question.

4:07 They would like to know if I'm in the same country as them.

4:11 Tell you what.

4:12 I was really tempted to go to either Wales or Scotland.

4:17 But I thought that this would be one of the first questions they asked.

4:21 And so I resisted that urge.

4:22 I am in fact...

4:24 in jolly old England.

4:25 Okay, we've got our answer.

4:26 You ready?

4:27 He is in England.

4:28 He is in England.

4:29 Oh.

4:29 I don't want to stay in England longer.

4:31 Look, we can forget about Scotland.

4:33 We can forget about Wales.

4:35 England.

4:36 Okay, so we probably want something to give us direction soon.

4:39 Let me take out the map again.

4:40 We're right about here.

4:42 I would love to be able to split the map kind of diagonally like this.

4:46 So you're thinking like a Thermometer style thing?

4:48 Yeah, I think if we could find the right station to go to.

4:53 Of course, and I don't know if we've explained this yet,

4:55 but there's currently a tube strike in London.

4:58 Which is epic.

5:00 We support unions.

5:02 Except for right now when they are screwing

5:04 us because they're in cahoots with team Adam.

5:07 And now we need to draw our cards.

5:11 Because they asked a Matching question,

5:12 I get to look at the top three cards and then pick my favorite, and...

5:18 Awesome.

5:18 Awesome way to start the season.

5:29 So, really quick, this card that Adam just pulled is a Curse.

5:32 This is a special kind of card that Adam can keep in his hand

5:34 and play against us whenever he thinks it would be most advantageous.

5:38 The one he just pulled prevents Ben and I from asking

5:40 any more questions until we've successfully

5:42 completed a mini-game of hide-and-seek ourselves.

5:45 Curses, though, always have a casting cost.

5:47 This card can only be played when Ben

5:49 and I are off-transit and away from a train station.

5:52 In this game, choosing the right Curses and casting them

5:54 at the right time can be the key to getting a winning run.

5:59 Mm...

6:00 Curse of the Hide-and-Seek-ception is not a great Curse.

6:04 I think that it is probably ultimately better than a 10-minute Bonus.

6:10 So I'm going to keep it.

6:12 Let's keep going.

6:19 That's town.

6:21 Alright, for inexplicable reasons, we've walked over here.

6:24 We've walked over here to give you a little bit of variety.

6:27 We need to go to a station where if we ask if we're hotter or colder,

6:32 it splits the map in a diagonal.

6:35 Peterborough is 50 minutes.

6:38 Okay, we have eight minutes until that train and— Okay, okay.

6:41 that's not the quickest station to get through.

6:42 Shh-shh-shh-shh-shh.

6:42 You're freaking me out.

6:44 Okay.

6:45 Calmly.

6:47 I dunno, my quick hot take, Ben, is...

6:50 I think it is likelier than not that he is north of here.

6:54 Yes, well, 'cause we're at the bottom.

6:56 And there's more options.

6:57 Before we leave...

6:59 is there a Radar we can do that would...

7:02 We could do a 100-mile Radar or something.

7:05 Let's do a 100-mile Radar first.

7:06 So we do a 100-mile Radar, and if it's not a hit, we don't get on this train?

7:10 If it's a hit, we don't get on the train.

7:12 Okay.

7:12 We gotta send it now.

7:13 I'd say, let's do that.

7:15 And then go to the platform?

7:16 Yeah, let's go to the platform.

7:18 Okay, let's do it.

7:22 Is it the train to Edinburgh?

7:24 It is.

7:25 Okay, so we've done a 100-mile Radar just to see if

7:29 he's down in this general area because we can do it quickly.

7:32 If it's a hit, then...

7:35 We get scared and we bail from this train?

7:37 We stay here because he's not all the way up there.

7:40 Okay, we should get an answer any second now.

7:42 And let's maybe start walking.

7:44 And folks, we have got question two.

7:48 A 100-mile Radar.

7:50 Unfortunately, I would say that that is a pretty smart question.

7:55 I am not within 100 miles of them.

7:58 But knowing that knocks out a ton of area.

8:02 So I would say...

8:04 that it was a smart question.

8:09 Okay, Radar questions, I get to look at the top two.

8:15 Ooh, okay.

8:20 Oh.

8:21 Oh, these are both good.

8:23 I think I have to take the Veto.

8:26 We're committing Ben, right?

8:27 Miss, we get on.

8:29 Miss, we get on.

8:30 It's a miss, we get on the train, we go north.

8:33 It's legit time.

8:34 It's a miss.

8:35 Okay, we getting on?

8:36 Alright.

8:37 He's far away.

8:37 Let's go for it.

8:38 Hey!

8:39 Back!

8:40 No?

8:40 Okay.

8:41 Oh?

8:44 I guess we're not getting on.

8:45 So they did not want us to get on that train.

8:48 The guy, he screamed so loud.

8:50 He said no, very loudly.

8:53 He's an agent of Adam.

8:54 I thought we were gonna die.

8:56 I still like the move of going up to Peterborough with the Radar.

8:59 And we gotta wait 20 minutes.

9:01 So if we— if we're gonna kill this time anyway, we might as well ask questions.

9:05 Here's a pitch.

9:07 Coastline.

9:09 'Cause the thing about the...

9:11 Penzance-ula...

9:12 She's skinny.

9:14 So if he was closer to the coastline,

9:17 that would cover basically the whole peninsula.

9:18 Well, what would it look like if...

9:20 Yeah, what would it look like if he's further?

9:22 'Cause then that would maybe exclude it.

9:24 If he was further, then it would exclude the whole peninsula.

9:28 Except for some very tiny areas.

9:30 If he's closer, then that's less useful, at least right now.

9:35 But it still cuts off a lot of country.

9:36 It's a good question.

9:38 I'd say let's hit it.

9:39 Alright, do it?

9:41 Do it.

9:41 Sending?

9:42 Yeah.

9:43 Okay.

9:44 We got a decision to make here.

9:47 They've just asked if I'm closer to or further from a coastline than them.

9:51 Now, here is the thing.

9:53 I could use my Veto on that.

9:56 But if I do, if I were them,

10:00 I would then request a photo of the largest body of water I can see,

10:03 and then they would see that I'm fully on the ocean.

10:08 If I decide to go ahead and answer this question,

10:11 they'll know I'm kind of near the coast...

10:14 but not necessarily that close.

10:19 I think I answer this.

10:21 Look, you can get mad at me about not using the veto if you want, okay?

10:28 But I gen— I really do think,

10:31 I think that if I veto this, it makes them too suspicious.

10:33 Then they ask me for a picture of my largest body of water.

10:36 Now that question's out of the way...

10:39 and if they ask for a largest body of water, veto.

10:44 Ooooh.

10:46 Okay, he's closer.

10:46 He's closer.

10:47 That is annoying, although expected.

10:49 Adam, we're coming for you.

10:51 What do we do now?

10:52 Do we still go to Peterborough?

10:52 I still don't know what to do.

10:53 We could go to Peterborough.

10:55 We could go north and ask a Thermometer and try and cut off the Penzinceula.

11:00 We've been calling it the Penzance-ula.

11:02 The Penzinceula, which is not a real term.

11:05 It should be.

11:06 But it should be.

11:07 That's our train.

11:08 Should we get on?

11:09 Yeah, let's go.

11:11 Alright.

11:11 Okay, let's draw our cards.

11:17 Curse of the Drained Brain.

11:19 Choose three questions in different categories.

11:21 The Seekers cannot ask those questions for the rest of your run.

11:24 Casting cost: Discard your hand.

11:28 Mm-kay.

11:35 Curse of the Gilded Inquiry.

11:37 Secretly choose one question.

11:39 If the Seekers ask that question after this Curse is played,

11:42 the question is automatically vetoed and you

11:44 instantly draw and keep three extra cards.

11:47 Casting cost: The Seekers' next question is free.

11:52 I think I go Gilded Inquiry.

11:53 Because with my Veto and this, it's like having two Vetoes.

11:57 Curse of the Drained Brain is kind of like having three Vetoes,

12:00 but they all have to be said beforehand and they're known.

12:04 Okay, I'm gonna play Gilded Inquiry right now on the coastline question.

12:12 Sam.

12:14 We've got a Curse.

12:16 Oh god.

12:17 Curse of the Gilded Inquiry.

12:19 He knows we're here.

12:22 He could definitely guess the 50-mile.

12:26 I don't know.

12:27 I don't know.

12:28 I think that I would be pretty shocked if he put it on the 50-mile Thermometer,

12:33 which is the worst Thermometer.

12:35 Yeah.

12:37 So we ask it anyway?

12:38 I think, yeah.

12:39 I think that that's— Do it?

12:41 It's a really good Curse though.

12:43 Yeah, it is.

12:44 Alright, boardin' the train to Peterborough.

12:54 Oh?

12:56 Are they going somewhere?

12:57 If they are going somewhere, where?

12:59 There's like three completely different regions that I could be in.

13:03 I mean, I guess it's possible they're just gonna take a guess.

13:05 It looks like they're going north.

13:08 They still haven't eliminated that area southwest though.

13:10 I guess they'll have to do that later.

13:12 We will see.

13:19 So, we're just looking at our Thermometer options here.

13:23 The train's moving.

13:24 The train is moving.

13:25 We're on it.

13:26 I just wanted to mention.

13:27 We are— We're on our way.

13:28 I guess you can't see it.

13:29 We don't have a window.

13:30 But we're on our way.

13:31 Here's what we're gonna do, Sam, lemme tell you.

13:33 We're gonna start a 50-mile Thermometer once we are passing through Hatfield.

13:37 Once we do this Thermometer,

13:39 we'll have a pretty good sense if he's north or if he's south.

13:44 Ben— Croque.

13:45 Thank you.

13:48 I didn't know that was what I was getting.

13:49 It was a barbecue chicken croque monsieur, I guess?

13:52 Let's really get in there.

13:53 I— Whoa.

13:54 I don't want the camera touching my food.

13:56 It's not touching it.

13:57 Delicious ice cream?

14:01 Sounds amazing!

14:06 This is crazy.

14:08 It's like a totally different texture.

14:14 It's sort of more like whipped cream.

14:18 What are they up to?

14:22 Okay.

14:22 I'm gonna look into...

14:25 You find him?

14:27 Yeah, there he is.

14:29 Alright, we're ending our Thermometer here a little bit before Peterborough.

14:33 If we do find out that we're hotter, then we might wanna stay on until Leeds.

14:39 Yeah.

14:43 It's always stressful.

14:47 I mean, come on, we have to go on the Ferris wheel, right?

14:55 Okay, they have finished their Thermometer.

15:01 I could veto this...

15:03 but if I did, they could just do a shorter Thermometer while they keep going up.

15:08 So I don't actually think that that's worth it.

15:11 I don't like it when they do good guesses.

15:16 But they're not on a Ferris wheel.

15:19 So who's really winning right now?

15:31 Come on, Adam.

15:33 Come on.

15:36 Message sent.

15:37 Hotter.

15:39 Okay.

15:39 You wanna stay on?

15:41 I think that makes sense.

15:42 I think we should stay on until Leeds.

15:45 Good bye, Peterborough.

15:54 Thanks.

15:56 Alright.

15:58 It is time to start looking for— Why suffer the slings

16:02 and arrows of outrageous fortune when Zoltar is here to guide you.

16:07 Oh my gosh.

16:09 Zoltar, am I going to win?

16:14 (glissando) I am Zoltar, at your service.

16:18 Hi, Zoltar!

16:19 Listen closely to my instructions.

16:21 Okay.

16:22 Hard work pays off over time.

16:25 Okay.

16:25 And laziness...

16:26 it pays off right now.

16:29 Sure.

16:30 Heed my advice.

16:31 Relax and enjoy yourself today.

16:34 You deserve it.

16:35 Okay.

16:37 I am wise like the owl,

16:39 patiently waiting for the right time to react to any event.

16:42 To me this means that I was right to save my Veto.

16:46 I'm wise, like the owl.

16:48 And I'm patiently waiting.

16:54 We're gonna clean up.

16:56 (stifles giggling) We have curry on the map now.

16:59 Who could have anticipated— Shhhh!

17:02 Not— No one.

17:04 No one could have anticipated.

17:06 This is crazy.

17:06 Putting the map away.

17:07 We're gonna look at our phones.

17:09 (laughs) Okay!

17:14 I think that...

17:15 I think we're cooking with gas.

17:19 I think we might be.

17:21 (sighs) I mean, the problem is the map gets a little— it's a little messy.

17:25 It's a little messier than I would like.

17:28 He couldn't be in the Norwich area, right?

17:30 Well, no.

17:30 If theoretically he could be.

17:32 Yeah.

17:33 I just, I don't think— I'm choosing to not think about that.

17:38 Honestly, if he's there, look, we're donezo, we're gg.

17:42 Game's over right now.

17:44 Yeah, probably.

17:45 So honestly, we don't even worry about it.

17:51 They are approaching quicker than I would like.

17:55 I think we gotta start looking for hiding spots.

17:59 I do not think that hiding down here...

18:03 by the sort of boardwalk is the move.

18:07 So I think we need to go...

18:09 up more into the town.

18:12 And I have awesome news about how we get further into town...

18:16 which is that we take...

18:19 the tramway!

18:36 Okay.

18:38 Let's take a gander.

18:45 I mean, I would love to get a Photo from him.

18:49 Could be fun.

18:50 Sooner rather than later.

18:51 Especially 'cause we have the time to analyze it.

18:52 What kind of Photo are you craving, Sam?

18:56 Five buildings is a classic.

18:58 Biggest body of water in your zone is interesting

19:00 because maybe we could see if he's on the coast.

19:05 Yeah, but usually you just see the water.

19:07 Sometimes hard to— But must include either both

19:09 sides of the body of water or the horizon.

19:12 I've never felt that— I didn't feel more answers when it's with that.

19:15 No, it's— Do you wanna just ask for five buildings?

19:18 Photo of five buildings?

19:19 Might as well.

19:19 They're so cheap.

19:20 Yeah, let's ask for a photo of five buildings.

19:22 Well, they have asked for a photo of five buildings.

19:27 I'm glad that I had left the beach for this.

19:33 Because I think that the buildings are gonna be

19:36 a lot more generic in this part of town.

19:39 I think that what I want to do is find...

19:43 the most rural looking buildings.

19:46 'Cause where I am is actually relatively big

19:49 compared to the places that it's nearest to.

19:53 Maybe this?

19:55 I'm allowed to blur text, but...

19:57 even this clearly communicates that I'm in a place with a main street and stuff.

20:03 Now this feels pretty generic.

20:06 It's like, where's that?

20:08 That could be anywhere.

20:10 Especially when you crop it in.

20:11 (camera click) I think that's about as good as we're gonna do.

20:17 And let's draw our cards.

20:21 Well, our card.

20:23 It's a Photo.

20:23 We only get one card.

20:33 Alright folks.

20:34 We've got a photo.

20:36 Let's see.

20:37 That looks like England.

20:40 I mean, those are like row houses.

20:43 That implies to me not too small.

20:46 It's pretty cloudy looking.

20:49 Whereas like here, there's some blue sky.

20:51 But I feel like you're more likely to see homes like that near a coast too.

20:54 True.

20:55 Okay, I'm back on the beach.

20:59 Now, look, I have to be honest with you about something.

21:04 There is a castle here.

21:07 But, but...

21:10 but in my defense, there's a castle almost everywhere in England, okay?

21:15 I know I always hide near castles, but this— I didn't do it this time.

21:20 I didn't even realize there was a castle here when I first looked here,

21:23 as I found out later.

21:26 Alright, let's go check it out.

21:34 We've been waffling for a while.

21:35 Oh my god.

21:36 We're almost to Leeds.

21:38 We want to play a Thermometer.

21:39 We wanna split the map so that we know which coast to go to, but it's just,

21:45 we just can't quite make a Thermometer work.

21:48 But the thing we could do is we could just do the half-mile and walk it,

21:52 get to Leeds and just walk Yeah.

21:54 a direction and get the exact angle we want.

21:57 Or even start it a half-mile out of the station and then

21:59 just walk a little bit north or south to get the exact angle.

22:02 So this basically works if we do it at...

22:05 this roundabout here.

22:07 Okay.

22:07 And then we can do some minor tweaking on foot?

22:10 Yeah.

22:11 What if...

22:15 What if this is...

22:16 You love the what if game.

22:18 My game is, I do whatever I want.

22:20 Oh wait, we're here.

22:21 So we're doing it?

22:21 We're doing it?

22:22 Do it.

22:30 Okay, they started a half-mile Thermometer.

22:33 My guess is that they're going to use

22:34 this to cut the country into east and west.

22:37 I'm thinking it might be time for a Veto.

22:40 They can do the same thing with a 3-mile Thermometer, but it'll be annoying.

22:48 And then they'll have used their 3-mile Thermometer.

22:50 So I kind of think...

22:52 this might be our moment.

22:54 I've been patiently waiting.

22:56 But I think that now...

22:59 my owl-like wisdom is telling me that this might be our moment.

23:10 Alright.

23:12 In order to get this Thermometer to exactly the beautiful angle that we need,

23:18 we want to go to the H&M.

23:20 Okay.

23:20 It's not a sponsor.

23:21 But I will say credit to H&M.

23:24 They've chosen a great spot to end a Thermometer.

23:28 What is...

23:30 What is Leeds known for?

23:31 Is this where the Beatles are from?

23:34 No.

23:34 Oh.

23:35 This is the first we've seen England.

23:39 It's hard to walk and use binoculars at the same time.

23:41 They don't tell you that.

23:43 This looks like Britain.

23:45 Kind of have the tenants of every British

23:47 main street with like a Greggs, a Caffè Nero.

23:51 There's a restaurant here called Slug& Lettuce.

23:53 A Tesco.

23:54 That kinda describes a British man.

23:56 Yeah.

23:58 Is that H&M?

23:59 Sam, I found it.

24:01 Right?

24:01 Wait, hold on.

24:03 No.

24:04 Alright.

24:05 Do you wanna declare it?

24:06 Sam, I found the H&M.

24:07 Okay.

24:07 Do you wanna declare it?

24:10 Yeah.

24:11 Alright.

24:12 Well...

24:14 ...the Thermometer has come.

24:19 I think it's time to veto.

24:22 Now, it's possible that they can basically

24:25 re-ask this with a 3-mile Thermometer, but...

24:32 I think that'll be inconvenient for them.

24:34 And if they do it, then they'll have used up three of their four Thermometers.

24:39 We have an answer.

24:41 Okay.

24:42 The son of a bitch has hit us with a Veto Question.

24:44 Ohh-hohoho.

24:45 That is not...

24:47 On one hand, blugh.

24:49 On the other hand, we're onto him.

24:51 Or he just realized this was a good question to veto.

24:55 Or we're onto him.

24:57 Let's look at if there's any kind of 3-mile

25:00 Thermometer that could get us maybe a similar...

25:02 Well, that's kind of was what we were looking at before.

25:04 Yeah.

25:05 I mean, there is a train at "Crossgate".

25:07 But I don't think that gets us quite the angle that we want.

25:09 Maybe let's walk back towards...

25:11 Yeah.

25:12 the station.

25:13 Sam, Cross Gates still works.

25:17 Does it though?

25:18 So there's a little bit of a slice.

25:20 Here, let's cross.

25:21 Yeah, it's not as perfect, but it's...

25:25 Well, we can do it relatively efficiently

25:28 now 'cause there is a quick transfer back.

25:32 So maybe it's worth it?

25:33 This geography's a little awkward,

25:34 but I think it's as good as we're gonna do right now.

25:36 So let's get on this train to Cross Gates, and...

25:39 let's start our 3-mile Thermometer now.

25:43 We're really burning through these.

25:55 It's pretty cool here.

26:06 Man, it is really beautiful up here.

26:12 Okay, well, as predicted...

26:15 they're doing the 3-mile Thermometer.

26:17 But...

26:20 that definitely is going to have taken them a bit.

26:23 I think that it will have slowed them down enough that it was worth it to do it,

26:26 especially because they don't have good Thermometers left.

26:29 They only have one left now.

26:32 So...

26:35 I still say worth it.

26:37 (sighs) Man, I really...

26:40 I wish he had not vetoed that half-mile.

26:42 That is...

26:45 Yep.

26:46 It hurts.

26:47 Alright.

26:49 Sam, we made it to Cross Gates.

26:50 We just gotta get a little bit north.

26:52 Yeah, that train was late, so we only have 10 minutes.

26:54 And end this Thermometer, alright.

26:55 So I think we just follow this road up a bit.

26:57 Whatever takes us north.

26:59 Yeah.

27:01 Okay, we end it here?

27:03 Let's end it here.

27:03 The geography's a little weird, but we'll probably get rid of the sliver some...

27:08 Somehow.

27:08 Somehow.

27:09 (groans) Okay, committing?

27:11 Committing.

27:12 Let's get on that train back.

27:14 Okay.

27:15 If that does it for us, Ben,

27:17 that will— It's not gonna be— He's not in the sliver.

27:20 That'll be the blunder.

27:22 His ass is not in the sliver.

27:24 The blunder of all time.

27:32 Come on.

27:36 What direction are you going?

27:40 Well, damn.

27:46 Why don't they guess wrong sometimes?

27:52 (sighs loudly) Ay.

27:56 Uuuhhggh.

27:59 Let's draw our stupid cards.

28:04 Curse of the Prosperous Home.

28:06 Expand the radius of your hiding zone by 50%.

28:13 Ooh.

28:20 A bit more Time Bonus to use.

28:23 Well, I loved the castle.

28:27 Let's go back into town.

28:28 Alright, Sam, we got an answer.

28:30 What is it?

28:30 You ready?

28:31 Are you emotionally prepared to receive I don't know.

28:33 this information?

28:34 Hotter.

28:35 East coast.

28:36 The east coast.

28:37 Which means that the sliver is not a problem.

28:39 The problem is that this is still...

28:42 kind of a weird slice of map remaining.

28:45 Yeah, and a lot of the lines to the coast are pretty big commitments.

28:50 We can ask if he's in our same region.

28:52 And— 'Cause our region contains most of the Hull stuff.

28:57 Is this our train?

28:58 Yeah.

29:01 I don't wanna go to the coast yet.

29:03 We need to figure out which section

29:06 of coast he's on before we actually go there.

29:09 I don't know that we're gonna have

29:10 a more useful time for the region question now.

29:12 No, and it's also like if it's a hit...

29:15 Huge.

29:16 Huge.

29:17 Oh my god, you know what's in our map?

29:19 Saltburn.

29:19 You ever watch Saltburn?

29:21 It seemed too freaky.

29:23 Maybe he's getting freaky over somewhere.

29:25 I know that I gotta go crazy with this stuff.

29:37 Is this right?

29:38 Is this the right amount?

29:40 No one knows.

29:42 Certainly not me.

29:44 I like...

29:45 I like region.

29:46 I like region.

29:47 And if it's a no, we start going north

29:50 and we use our 10-mile Thermometer to exclude everything south.

29:55 I'm not convinced that's worth it...

29:58 but I like region first at least.

30:00 Alright, let's do region.

30:02 Look, it's an old thing.

30:05 Alright, we're asking same region.

30:07 Currently we are in Yorkshire and the Humber.

30:11 Adam, are you in Yorkshire and the Humber?

30:15 Only time will tell.

30:28 Eh?

30:33 Well...

30:36 I would say that that's not great.

30:40 'Cause I am in the same region as them.

30:47 We got an answer.

30:48 What is it?

30:51 Bingo!

30:52 It's a hit?

30:53 It's a hit.

30:54 Ohoho!

30:55 It's a hit.

30:55 It's a hit.

30:56 It's a hit.

30:57 Spotted ya!

30:58 Spotted ya!

30:58 Okay, this is good.

30:59 This is good.

31:00 We're making good time here.

31:01 Adam, I— Wait, no, no, no.

31:02 First, cut to Adam spiraling.

31:04 I wanna see Adam spiraling.

31:05 Adam, I see you spiraling.

31:12 Well, shoot.

31:17 So, we know we want to go...

31:21 Well, we still don't know where we want to go, but we've got a small map.

31:24 We've got a— We're— it's just this region,

31:26 and we've already cut off a huge chunk of it anyway.

31:29 We need a genius question, Ben.

31:32 So it's like he's either around

31:34 this Middlesbrough— Middles— "Middles-brow" area, or Hull.

31:41 And we kinda need to know,

31:43 because once we go down the line, we'll just have to backtrack.

31:46 I don't think we can quite commit to going to one of those two yet.

31:50 Okay, so I'm gonna let you in on a little secret.

31:53 Ben and I are potentially about to make a huge mistake.

31:56 If you didn't just catch that, we seem to think that Middlesbrough

31:59 and the surrounding lines are in our region and still in play.

32:02 The thing is, they're not.

32:04 Even this line that goes down to Whitby,

32:06 which does enter the remaining map, wouldn't be valid.

32:08 The trains don't run often enough for any of these stations

32:10 to be used as hiding zones under our rules.

32:13 And to raise the stakes here,

32:14 Middlesbrough is basically completely disconnected from the parts

32:17 of our map that are in play.

32:18 That means that if we mistakenly decide to go there,

32:20 we're liable to lose hours for nothing.

32:23 Now, back to our, mm, strategizing.

32:27 I bet he's in Saltburn or something.

32:29 I mean, it would be funny.

32:30 I bet his freaky ass is in Saltburn.

32:32 I fear we might have to move.

32:34 I think we might, but it's just...

32:37 It's still a question of what is the best way to move?

32:40 Is there any way to use a Thermometer to cut it through here?

32:44 You would need to...

32:47 If we could maybe go down that line...

32:49 or go up that line...

32:51 Like if we went up that line from York,

32:53 we could very easily do that Thermometer.

32:56 It's just risky.

32:57 Yeah.

32:57 I mean I don't hate that because that is clean.

33:02 So I mean we could get on this train all the way to Middlesbrough.

33:05 If we basically YOLO it towards Middlesbrough...

33:09 that is the only way we can ask a clean Thermometer that cuts the map in two.

33:17 We just might be going the wrong direction.

33:20 We're gonna waste a lot more time, I think, with messiness.

33:23 'Cause I— It really seems like we need to get rid of the Middlesbrough cluster.

33:27 I think that that is the most— And I don't have

33:28 an idea how to do that except get on the train.

33:30 So one more epic move.

33:31 One more epic move never hurt anybody, right?

33:34 Let's get to platform 16 while we make final thoughts.

33:36 Okay.

33:38 I guess let's draw our cards.

33:41 Things are not looking awesome.

33:46 Curse of the Gambler's Feet.

33:48 For the next hour, Seekers must roll a die

33:50 before they take any steps in any direction.

33:52 They may take that many steps before rolling again.

33:55 Casting cost: Roll a die.

33:57 If it's an even number, this Curse has no effect.

34:01 It is a good one, a classic.

34:07 Curse of the 5-Minute King.

34:09 Remove all 5-minute Bonuses from the deck for the rest of your run.

34:12 After doing so, you must reshuffle the deck.

34:15 Casting cost: Discard two 5-minute Bonus cards.

34:24 Here's the thing.

34:25 Gambler's Feet is funny.

34:27 It doesn't actually do that much to slow them down.

34:29 Curse of the 5-Minute King...

34:31 it only makes the deck marginally bigger, and I need two 5-minute Bonuses.

34:34 I think I take the 10-minute Bonus and I

34:38 use it to cast the Curse of the Prosperous Home.

34:41 Curse of the Prosperous Home requires discarding 20 minutes of Time Bonus.

34:46 I'm going to discard them...

34:48 and cast this Curse, expanding my hiding area.

34:55 Now we really have to find a good place to hide.

35:01 We have received an SMS text message, Ben.

35:03 He has Cursed us with the Curse of the Prosperous Home.

35:07 Oh, watch out.

35:07 Doesn't do anything to us yet, but...

35:11 it means he's got a big old fat hiding zone,

35:14 which is gonna make the endgame harder.

35:16 It just— Let's get to the platform.

35:18 We can at least waffle for 20 minutes until

35:20 we get to York without necessarily committing too much.

35:23 The only situation where this is bad is...

35:27 where we're going the wrong direction.

35:28 But then after that, we will have a much cleaner map.

35:32 I can't think of a better move.

35:47 Okay, so we're just gonna have to start the Thermometer here and end it here,

35:52 and then we get our perfect, beautiful line.

35:55 It would be really funny if he was in Saltburn.

35:57 It's probably pretty, right?

35:59 Actually I'm checking whether we'd be able to see the ocean.

36:03 Do you wanna ask for a Photo?

36:04 Do we have 20— How long is this train?

36:07 We'd be in York...

36:09 (sputters) in just under 20 minutes.

36:11 I think it'd be fine because we're gonna start it outside of York,

36:13 but we need to ask now.

36:14 I— Water?

36:15 Let's ask for the biggest body of water.

36:17 I think we should at least be able to tell if he's not on the ocean.

36:22 Probably.

36:23 Should we do it?

36:24 Do it, do it now.

36:27 Ha-ha-ha...

36:29 Ha-ha, ha-ha.

36:31 Ha, and in fact, ha-ha.

36:34 They have requested a Photo of my biggest body of water.

36:39 As you may remember...

36:41 due to the Curse of the Gilded Inquiry...

36:44 that question is automatically vetoed and I get to draw and keep three cards.

36:52 Folks, this rules for us.

36:57 Ohhh, Sam.

37:00 Oh, no.

37:02 Oh!

37:07 That— That— Okay.

37:08 But hold on.

37:10 Sam?

37:13 Look.

37:14 It's a lot of cards he just got.

37:16 Yeah, he did just get three cards and our question vetoed.

37:20 It's interesting that that's the question that he chose.

37:24 Yeeaaah?

37:27 It— I don't think it necessarily implies that he is on the coast.

37:29 No, but it's just interesting.

37:32 Now, let's get our cards.

37:37 15-minute Bonus.

37:39 Great start.

37:42 10-minute Bonus.

37:44 Fine.

37:47 And the Curse of the Soothsayer.

37:50 Curse of the Soothsayer.

37:51 For the rest of the round,

37:52 you may choose to predict the next question after each question is asked.

37:55 If you are right, you earn triple rewards.

37:58 If you are wrong, you earn no reward.

38:00 Casting cost: Discard a Curse.

38:04 Pretty good.

38:05 Pretty good.

38:13 So wait, Ben.

38:20 Saltburn actually isn't in that region.

38:24 Saltburn isn't in that region?

38:26 No.

38:26 What do you mean?

38:28 The region ends here, so...

38:31 none of that line is in.

38:34 The only bit that is in is this line.

38:38 Oh.

38:40 Middlebrough isn't in it?

38:41 Apparently not.

38:42 Well...

38:45 What do you want to do?

38:48 It makes me wonder if we get off in York.

38:53 But we could still cut off that line.

38:56 But that line doesn't seem that likely.

39:00 Including on frequency.

39:01 We definitely wanna get off.

39:12 Okay.

39:13 Okay.

39:14 Welcome to York.

39:15 What the (bleep) do we do now?

39:17 We probably shouldn't have come here.

39:19 Nah, eh...

39:20 Somewhat, I dunno.

39:21 We kind of thought some lines were in play that are not in play.

39:23 This is on the way to some stuff.

39:25 It's fine.

39:26 But...

39:28 We need to stop narrowly having big (bleep) -ups, Ben.

39:32 The key is narrowly.

39:35 The thing I'm worried about...

39:37 is that even though on the map, there's a decent number of possibilities left,

39:42 I don't actually think that I could have gotten to a lot of them.

39:46 So I am worried...

39:51 that they might have a good guess about where I am.

39:56 And maybe that's what they're about to do.

39:59 They're about to just go for it.

40:02 We've got him down to...

40:05 We're doing great.

40:06 I mean, what...

40:08 probably less than a couple dozen stations now.

40:11 I think it's a— yeah, it's a healthy couple dozen.

40:17 I don't know.

40:20 I don't know.

40:20 I don't know.

40:21 I don't know exact— I mean, we could just go to Scarborough.

40:24 I mean, it's not the craziest idea.

40:26 I mean, it seems like we have decent maneuverability around here.

40:29 Great, I love to maneuver.

40:31 So it's kind of like, I feel like we should probably either be getting

40:34 on that train to Hull or the train to Scarborough.

40:37 But what do we do getting on those trains?

40:40 I don't know, man.

40:43 Okay.

40:43 What do we do?

40:44 What do we do, Ben?

40:45 Well, look...

40:47 I feel like...

40:49 we're doing pretty good.

40:50 We are.

40:50 I just don't know how to— Even though

40:52 we did literally just make a giant mistake.

40:54 No, we didn't.

40:54 We almost made a giant mistake.

40:56 We almost— We made a little mistake on the way to making a giant mistake.

40:59 Yes.

41:00 We are gonna look so stupid.

41:02 We've gotten everything right.

41:03 We're gonna look like a genius.

41:04 Okay.

41:05 So Radar, not useful, because we're equidistant from the two main areas.

41:10 There's always the question where we go on a line, and we're like,

41:14 "Are you on this line?" But I fear it may be too early.

41:19 Like he could be in Grimsby.

41:22 Let's keep in the back of our minds there is that train to Hull in 12 minutes.

41:25 I— I mean, I don't know.

41:26 Do you want to go to Hull?

41:28 Once we're there, or even once we're on the way there,

41:32 we could probably ask a much more useful Radar.

41:35 You know how we can exclude— Can't we exclude Grimsby on county?

41:42 If we ask county?

41:43 If we're in Hull?

41:44 That feels pretty good.

41:45 I kinda like that.

41:46 We could also— We could basically ask that right after we leave for Hull.

41:50 I can't think of something very useful we can do here.

41:53 No.

41:54 And there's a lot useful we can do in Hull.

41:56 I think...

41:57 Go to Hull.

41:58 Let's— Okay, let's go.

41:59 I am getting hangry.

42:01 I need food.

42:02 I want to buy food.

42:03 I have a lot of bars.

42:05 I have bars too, but I...

42:07 I've had my bars.

42:08 I'm gonna crash out on bars, Ben.

42:14 Hello.

42:14 Made it on the train to Hull.

42:16 Got a little Pret a Manger.

42:18 Never hurt anybody.

42:19 I'm so excited for it.

42:21 I'm so hungry.

42:21 If the answer is yes, I was just checking.

42:24 This train...

42:25 it goes all the way up to Bridlington.

42:28 Yeah.

42:29 Meaning this train stops at almost every...

42:34 Wait.

42:34 Would we want a station photo?

42:37 Yeah, ask for a station photo.

42:39 Now?

42:40 Why not?

42:41 I think that is a worthwhile card.

42:43 What are the chances he pulls a banger?

42:47 Zero.

42:48 Zero chance he pulls a banger off of this question.

42:52 Okay, well...

42:53 I was trying to go to the other end of my zone to check it out,

42:59 but they want a picture of the train platform.

43:05 Well, folks...

43:06 we've made it to the station.

43:10 It has to be visible...

43:13 from the train platform.

43:17 This station is under construction.

43:20 Is there a way that they would be able to figure out what stations...

43:28 are under renovation?

43:29 Okay, yes.

43:30 Google will tell me that it is.

43:33 Which means I don't think we should show any of this.

43:36 Okay.

43:38 How about that?

43:39 I dunno how helpful that's gonna be.

43:50 Alright, Sam.

43:52 Ooh.

43:53 Got a photo from Adam.

43:54 I feel like we would be able to notice that.

43:56 It's a pretty particular type of brick.

43:58 I don't think most stations...

44:00 Would look like that?

44:01 ...would have that brick.

44:02 You've got that red sign in the corner.

44:04 Because a lot of these stations don't even have structures.

44:08 So it's at least not the most rural.

44:12 But I reckon we're getting pretty close.

44:15 I reckon...

44:17 Mr.

44:17 Chase is quaking.

44:29 Okay, so...

44:34 they seem to have turned around...

44:38 and are now going the wrong way?

44:42 Which is good.

44:51 I'm just confused.

44:53 Where are they going?

45:02 I think that he's probably in this county.

45:04 Sam, there's a castle.

45:06 Nice, nice little look at the castle.

45:08 Lookit.

45:08 Look at the castle.

45:14 Sam...

45:15 Wait, we're there.

45:17 Let's ask if he is in this county.

45:20 Adam, this is your endgame.

45:22 Okay, well...

45:24 I understand what they were doing now.

45:28 They were trying to get to the county of East

45:32 Riding of Yorkshire to ask if I was there.

45:37 And folks...

45:39 I am thrilled to tell you...

45:42 ...that I am not.

45:44 This does narrow things down quite a bit.

45:46 On the other hand...

45:50 ...they just wasted a ton of time going and figuring that out.

46:01 I'm stressed, Ben.

46:03 I'm mostly stressed about a no answer.

46:06 A no answer.

46:07 But a no answer does probably eliminate more than half the stations.

46:12 Yes, but I just don't know what'd be next.

46:14 No, it'll be annoying.

46:16 Okay.

46:18 You ready?

46:20 It's a no.

46:23 Okay.

46:26 Fine.

46:28 What do we do?

46:29 Panic.

46:30 No, that's the wrong answer.

46:32 Alright folks.

46:35 Let's draw our cards, shall we?

46:38 One.

46:40 Fine.

46:41 Two.

46:44 Okay, better.

46:45 Three.

46:48 Curse of the Jammed Door.

46:49 For the next three hours,

46:50 whenever the Seekers want to pass through a doorway into a building,

46:53 business, train, or other vehicle, they must first roll two dice.

46:57 If they do not roll a seven or higher, they cannot enter that space.

47:00 Any given doorway can be re-attempted after 15 minutes.

47:04 Casting cost: Discard a card.

47:08 Oh, yeah.

47:09 Oh, big time.

47:12 Alright, let's use this right now.

47:15 Let's discard...

47:16 Let's discard Curse of the Soothsayer.

47:18 I don't wanna do that.

47:20 Oh, folks.

47:22 Oh, we got sent something, Ben.

47:28 Jammed Door.

47:29 The classic.

47:30 Oh man, Ben, things were going good!

47:34 So we could have gotten to Scarborough.

47:35 Could he have gotten to any of the stations below Scarborough?

47:38 Yes.

47:39 I think that those are pretty attractive.

47:44 Yeah, but there's only three of them.

47:46 Yeah.

47:46 So our fastest way to Scarborough

47:49 at this point is actually probably staying on this.

47:53 I mean, it's true that actually getting off of a train

47:56 is a risk now because of the jammed door.

47:59 Yeah.

48:00 So the fact that we're on a train that is moving...

48:03 ...is worth something.

48:05 So it's basically...

48:07 if we're right, if we haven't (bleep) -ed up, which we probably have,

48:10 he's either in one of three stations up there or he's in like all of this.

48:18 Wait, Ben, we could Radar.

48:21 Right?

48:21 What's a 25 from around here look like?

48:26 Egh, okay, we'd have to use it asap.

48:29 Okay, we would want to use it in seconds.

48:33 From Brough?

48:34 Because that way...

48:36 we would just include Grimsby,

48:37 and we would get as much of Doncaster as possible.

48:41 Alright, hit it?

48:41 Yeah, hit it.

48:43 I'll tell you something, folks.

48:44 Things have turned around a little bit for us here.

48:47 They had a straight shot from York to me.

48:50 But instead, they backtracked.

48:51 They went the wrong way.

48:53 Now they're gonna have to make their way back

48:55 here and deal with the Curse of the Jammed Door.

48:57 I mean, that one mistake by them, going the wrong way from York,

49:03 is probably gonna get me at least two extra hours.

49:09 They have asked for a 25-mile Radar.

49:13 Seemingly they are trying to eliminate all of the area in the Humber.

49:19 I am not within 25 miles of them.

49:23 I'm simply not!

49:24 I'm not.

49:25 Nothing I can do about that.

49:26 And so...

49:28 we draw two cards and pick one.

49:32 It's interesting.

49:35 Curse of the Archaeologist.

49:37 Send the Seekers a photo of a building or structure

49:39 whose age you can verify to within a century.

49:41 The Seekers must find a building or structure whose age they can

49:44 also verify from the same century or earlier before asking another question.

49:48 Casting cost: A standard photo of a building or structure.

49:52 Yeah, Curse of the Archaeologist is interesting,

49:55 but I just don't think I want to give them that information.

49:59 I think I'd prefer just a good old Time Bonus.

50:02 (claps) Look.

50:04 Things are going so good for us right now.

50:06 I think we need to celebrate.

50:07 And I happen to know the perfect place to do it.

50:14 Let's go.

50:17 So brown.

50:19 Alright.

50:20 This could be big, Ben.

50:21 What's it say?

50:24 Miss.

50:25 You're giving me YouTube face.

50:28 You're giving me thumbnail face.

50:30 If we are right about everything...

50:32 ...we have him down to three stations.

50:36 That doesn't...

50:40 It kind of seems too good to be true.

50:42 I just— I'm scared to continue on this train past here.

50:47 I mean, it's such a gamble.

50:49 But based on our info right now, it's the right move.

50:51 Alright, Sam, we're in Hull.

50:53 This is the sort of big question.

50:56 Do we stay on this train because we think that he is up north?

51:00 (laughs) Are we confident enough?

51:01 Should we be banking on us being right or banking on us being wrong?

51:06 I don't know, Sam.

51:09 I don't know what to— Sam.

51:11 Stay on the train?

51:12 You wanna stay on the train?

51:13 Well, I think it would be silly to bank on us being wrong.

51:19 We should be banking on us being right.

51:21 We don't have time to redo our work

51:23 right now before this train pulls outta the station.

51:25 I'm sweating though!

51:26 Sam, I'm sweating like a pig.

51:28 You do that normally, Ben.

51:30 I'm sweating like a roast pig.

51:31 Scarborough looks lovely.

51:33 I— Look, I agree that vibes wise,

51:36 I think it's so much more likely that he's up there.

51:38 Look at all these (bleep) -ing row houses.

51:40 We know he's in row houses.

51:41 Look at those row houses.

51:42 Yeah, there's row houses.

51:43 I hear ya.

51:46 He's in Scarborough.

51:48 He's in Scarborough, Ben.

51:49 I certainly think he's around there.

51:54 I think we gotta stay on.

51:56 I just don't see the logic to stay and to get off.

51:58 No.

51:58 I don't know what we would do if we got off.

52:00 No.

52:00 I think it's simply...

52:04 is Strava map time.

52:05 If we think we have it down to three...

52:08 Strava map.

52:09 You can have a Strava map as a treat.

52:11 Hit it.

52:13 Bang, bang, boom.

52:15 Alright.

52:16 I think we're ending our day...

52:19 ...in Bridlington.

52:20 Bride-lington?

52:22 Brid-lington.

52:23 Bridlington.

52:32 Alright, well they are...

52:35 ...coming hard with the questions now.

52:37 They would like the map of half a mile of streets.

52:41 At least five turns.

52:44 Okay.

52:45 I think that I found an area that is pretty generic.

52:49 I am hopeful that it will not give them that much, but on the other hand,

52:53 Sam is historically very good at dealing with Strava maps.

52:57 Let's get our one card for answering that question.

53:06 Yaaaay.

53:13 Ben, I've been searing the image of Scarborough into my retinas.

53:17 It's got the row houses that he sent the photo at— of close to the station.

53:23 Yeah.

53:23 It has cliffs.

53:25 It has a castle.

53:27 Scarborough is definitely my leading theory.

53:31 Oh, here it is.

53:33 It's very blocky.

53:34 Very blocky, okay.

53:36 But perfectly right turns.

53:37 I mean, there 100% are...

53:42 Look at the stuff around Capplemans Fish and Chips.

53:45 Yeah?

53:47 I legit think that could in fact be it.

53:50 Right around here.

53:50 Okay, lemme try that.

53:55 That looks pretty good to me.

53:57 It looks pretty good to me.

53:59 Can I get credit for having spotted that immediately?

54:03 I mean...

54:04 That looks pretty...

54:05 I didn't tilt it.

54:07 So the angle is 100%.

54:09 The shape, I mean...

54:10 it's 100% a match.

54:15 Sam, I've got one question for you.

54:17 Are you going to Scarborough Fair?

54:19 You know that song?

54:20 You know that song by Simon and Garfunkel?

54:23 No.

54:23 Give it a listen tonight.

54:26 That's...

54:26 What I do know, Ben?

54:28 I'm going to Scarborough.

54:30 'Cause Mr.

54:31 Adam Chase?

54:32 He's in Scarborough.

54:34 Ye-he-hes.

54:39 Ye-he-hes!

54:41 What the hell?

54:44 Is it closed?

54:50 Well...

54:53 This sucks.

54:56 Alright, folks.

54:58 Well...

55:00 It would seem that they have turned northward.

55:04 Yeah, my guess is that the jig is basically up at this point.

55:08 So tomorrow morning...

55:12 we need to lock in on finding a good hiding spot.

55:15 We've got a lot of area to play with.

55:17 We expanded our hiding zone.

55:19 I will see you back here at this exact spot...

55:25 ...tomorrow morning.

55:32 Thanks.

55:33 Thank you.

55:34 Alright, well, welcome to Bridlington, Sam.

55:38 It's nice.

55:38 They got flowers and (bleep).

55:41 Well, Sam...

55:42 I think this is where we end our day because tomorrow...

55:46 we think we know where Adam is.

55:49 We got him.

55:50 I think we— we're pretty sure he's in Scarborough.

55:53 There is a train first thing, which is why we can't leave the station.

55:56 'cause otherwise we're gonna have to roll to get in.

55:57 The bad news is we are also gonna have

55:59 to roll for that train because we have this Curse, Curse of the Jammed Door.

56:02 You gotta roll the dice to see if you can get on the train or if the door jams.

56:06 I'm so good at rolling dice.

56:08 And so we might get locked outta the first train to Scarborough.

56:11 I might also be— get locked out the second train to Scarborough.

56:14 That's the problem for— Will eventually expire,

56:17 and we'll deal with it as it comes up.

56:19 Alright, good bye.

56:20 Good night.

56:21 (smooches) Good morning.

56:35 It is 7 am.

56:38 And I believe that they are coming for my ass.

56:42 Alright, hello, good morning.

56:44 Good morning.

56:45 It is day two.

56:46 So we've still got the jammed door Curse,

56:49 which means we have to roll the dice to see

56:51 if we can get on the train when it arrives.

56:53 And if we don't roll right...

56:56 then we're waiting for at least the second train to Scarborough.

56:59 Yeah, which is 40 minutes after the first train.

57:02 (sighs) Alright.

57:03 Let's go to the right platform.

57:06 There's a train from there to here.

57:08 So...

57:09 the time has come to find our hiding spot.

57:14 We could go that way.

57:18 Towards the stuff where we started.

57:20 I would argue that this is a mistake.

57:22 Because this cliff area?

57:25 Very distinctive.

57:27 We have to be within 10 feet of a path, and there's only...

57:33 there's very limited paths over there.

57:35 So I actually think they would find me very quickly over there.

57:38 So I think the actual solution is we need to go

57:41 to the most boring part of town that is the most generic.

57:45 So...

57:46 let's get looking.

57:50 How'd you enjoy your overnight in Bridlington?

57:54 I mean, to be honest with you, Sam, this place is kind of scary.

57:57 I'm sure Bridlington's a lovely place.

58:00 (tracks screeching) I did feel like...

58:03 at many moments there was gonna be like a...

58:05 (tracks screeching) knife-wielding clown around the corner.

58:08 Exactly.

58:09 Yeah.

58:11 Do you have dice?

58:12 Sam, this is our train.

58:13 So if we roll anything less than a seven,

58:17 the doors are jammed, and we cannot board.

58:20 Come on, Ben.

58:20 You can do this.

58:21 Are you ready?

58:22 You can do this.

58:23 Get in here.

58:27 Ben!

58:28 Ohhh.

58:29 It's a six!

58:30 Sorry.

58:30 Not your fault.

58:32 Oh my god.

58:33 I got close to a seven.

58:35 Oh god.

58:37 Well, 40 more minutes in Bridlington.

58:39 At least.

58:41 Okay, well their train to me should have left five minutes ago.

58:50 And they're still at the station.

58:53 It says the train left.

58:54 What are they doing?

58:58 Curse of the Jammed Door.

58:59 Oh!

59:01 Love the Curse of the Jammed Door.

59:05 Alright, now we're starting to get to generic stuff.

59:09 Like what's the difference between this street and this street?

59:15 And the stuff down there and the stuff over there?

59:18 So I think we just gotta keep walking and see

59:22 if we can find just a good little corner or something.

59:26 This is what we want.

59:28 We want to be in the area where everything looks the freaking same.

59:34 The next train will be here soon.

59:35 The train that we will be getting on...

59:38 will be here soon.

59:39 'Cause you've learned how to roll dice better now, right?

59:42 You've been practicing?

59:43 Yeah.

59:43 Look.

59:44 I rolled a six last time as a bit.

59:46 I thought it would be funny.

59:48 It was funny, right?

59:49 It was kinda funny, yeah.

59:50 Pretty funny.

59:51 So this time, I'm gonna roll an eight.

59:57 I've spotted the train.

1:00:01 Alright, Sam.

1:00:01 Okay, doors are here.

1:00:03 Come on, Ben.

1:00:04 Come on.

1:00:05 Oh, seven or higher.

1:00:08 Oh my god, I'm so nervous.

1:00:09 Are you sure you don't wanna do it?

1:00:11 You do it.

1:00:11 Okay, I'm doing it.

1:00:12 I'm doing it.

1:00:15 Ohhh!

1:00:16 It's an eight!

1:00:17 You nailed it, Ben.

1:00:18 I called it!

1:00:19 Let's go get him.

1:00:20 They're so open.

1:00:21 They're so open and unjammed.

1:00:23 I love unjammed doors.

1:00:27 What a sweet, sweet train.

1:00:34 Well, they made it.

1:00:37 But hey, we got one.

1:00:39 That's pretty good.

1:00:41 Okay, now we really gotta pick a spot.

1:00:44 Because they're gonna be here in like 40 minutes.

1:00:54 Alright, well, I think we are right about where he is.

1:00:57 He should be getting into position right now.

1:01:02 We're on our way, Adam.

1:01:04 Alright, see, here's a great example of where we can't hide.

1:01:07 Cannot hide anywhere where we can see that.

1:01:10 'Cause that would be the tallest building we can see,

1:01:12 and that is super distinctive.

1:01:15 So we need to get away from that.

1:01:18 This isn't bad.

1:01:21 I need to make sure I wouldn't have to send any pictures of these signs.

1:01:26 Feel good about this one.

1:01:27 It's a little bench for me to sit on.

1:01:29 There's like, I'm walking around, there's a million streets that look like this.

1:01:36 The downside is there's not really a place to hide,

1:01:41 but there isn't one on any of the streets that are like this.

1:01:45 I guess we'll find out.

1:01:52 That mountain is...

1:01:53 It's looking hefty.

1:01:55 Yeah, and that's just within the zone I checked.

1:01:58 There are a couple different wooded areas within the zone.

1:02:01 That's tricky.

1:02:02 However, that's why we're gonna slice and dice.

1:02:05 So first question, I think as soon as we get there,

1:02:09 we're gonna do distance to nearest airport.

1:02:11 Nearest airport, I think.

1:02:13 Airport.

1:02:13 'Cause that'll slice the map right in half.

1:02:15 We're pulling in.

1:02:16 Should I send it?

1:02:17 Yeah.

1:02:18 Let's— I think we do it before he hits us with a Curse.

1:02:21 Yeah.

1:02:23 Ooh.

1:02:23 Oh yeah.

1:02:25 This...

1:02:26 That's it for sure.

1:02:28 ...is definitely it.

1:02:29 I think Adam did something sneaky.

1:02:31 I think he went behind the scaffolding.

1:02:34 Yeah, to make less.

1:02:35 Oh, it's here.

1:02:36 But it's one of these.

1:02:37 Yeah, it's got one of those.

1:02:39 Oh, here it is, Ben.

1:02:41 I think?

1:02:42 Yeah.

1:02:42 That's it.

1:02:43 We got him!

1:02:45 Alright.

1:02:45 We got him!

1:02:47 Well, they are here.

1:02:50 And they have asked an interesting question.

1:02:52 They've asked whether I'm closer to or further from the nearest airport.

1:02:56 Now, this is...

1:03:00 a very clever question, I believe.

1:03:03 Because it functionally just splits this area into north-south.

1:03:08 It just splits it in half.

1:03:09 Okay, yeah, so I am further from the airport than them,

1:03:13 which they will know means I am north of them.

1:03:16 Already, they can disregard quite a lot.

1:03:22 Let's draw our cards.

1:03:27 Ooh.

1:03:31 Alright.

1:03:34 Ooh, tough choice.

1:03:36 Oho, oh my gosh.

1:03:38 Which one do we go with?

1:03:39 Alright, Adam says he is further.

1:03:43 From the airport.

1:03:44 Yeah, which would mean he's in the north half of his radius.

1:03:48 Okay.

1:03:48 Let's go ahead and quickly ask...

1:03:51 while we don't have a Curse.

1:03:52 Yeah.

1:03:52 A tracing of his nearest path or street.

1:03:56 'Cause that'll just give us something to work with.

1:03:58 And then we find the center of...

1:04:01 One half of the remaining half.

1:04:04 Radar, cut in half again.

1:04:06 This half seems to have a little bit more complexity.

1:04:08 Yeah.

1:04:09 Which makes me think it's slightly more likely, isn't it?

1:04:11 Good, let's go in the middle of there.

1:04:12 (passing emergency siren) It's an ambulance.

1:04:19 It's probably for Adam because he's crashing out.

1:04:21 We do need to keep an eye out just in case.

1:04:24 True.

1:04:25 He's not there.

1:04:28 Adam?

1:04:29 Well, folks, they have begun their search in the wrong direction.

1:04:33 They have gone towards the stuff that is

1:04:36 interesting because they think I'm a sucker.

1:04:39 They think I'm a damn sucker who can't

1:04:42 help himself from being near the interesting stuff.

1:04:44 Well, guess what?

1:04:46 I did.

1:04:48 Now they've asked, yeah, the most obvious one.

1:04:52 Trace my nearest path.

1:04:53 Now, luckily...

1:04:55 basically every path in this whole area looks the same.

1:04:58 Should get us an answer in one minute.

1:05:00 Okay.

1:05:01 And then we hit him with the immediate...

1:05:03 Yeah.

1:05:04 So 0.375-mile radius, right?

1:05:06 Yep, from here.

1:05:08 I'm gonna do it faster than he can type "Curse".

1:05:11 Okay, he sent it, I sent back.

1:05:13 Oof, okay.

1:05:14 It's not a very useful one.

1:05:15 At least immediately.

1:05:17 Gives us orientation.

1:05:18 Orientation can be useful.

1:05:19 Gives us orientation.

1:05:22 And it looks pretty straight.

1:05:24 But it's like, what?

1:05:25 Is he just on some residential street?

1:05:27 Maybe, I don't know.

1:05:30 We're going to draw a card.

1:05:34 Awesome.

1:05:35 I will say also that we are now at our max hand size.

1:05:41 So, we are going to use the Curse of the Hide-and-Seek-ception.

1:05:47 They were very quick, and...

1:05:51 they did manage to get their next question in before I cast this.

1:05:57 But, that's fine.

1:06:02 We have been Cursed.

1:06:04 Cursed, Curse of the Hide-and-Seek-ception.

1:06:07 Do you wanna hide or do you wanna seek?

1:06:09 I'll hide.

1:06:10 Really?

1:06:12 Okay, you hide!

1:06:13 I'm gonna close my eyes.

1:06:14 You take this.

1:06:17 And...

1:06:17 Good bye.

1:06:18 Good bye.

1:06:20 So the strat here is, how can we collude without colluding?

1:06:25 I'm just gonna go straight down the biggest street.

1:06:33 Slightly farther.

1:06:35 Okay.

1:06:37 This is good enough.

1:06:38 Alright, lemme text him.

1:06:40 So, we do have to answer this 0.375-mile radius,

1:06:45 which will eliminate probably about half of the remaining map.

1:06:51 And it is a miss.

1:06:53 Now what's fun is that I can watch them play hide-and-seek.

1:06:57 It seems that Sam has decided to hide, and he has gone down towards the beach.

1:07:05 What will Ben do?

1:07:07 Okay, well, Sam has hidden.

1:07:11 And so I think that what I would do, if I were Sam, is I would just go...

1:07:16 in as straight of a line as possible for 500 feet and then turn a corner.

1:07:22 So, I'm gonna go...

1:07:25 This street goes straight for a quite a while here.

1:07:30 He could have turned a corner here, but I don't think that makes any sense.

1:07:36 I'm looking down and down.

1:07:41 Oh wait, I think I see him.

1:07:50 Yeah, Ben found him.

1:07:52 Okay, well...

1:07:54 I guess that maybe bought me five minutes.

1:07:58 That was easy.

1:08:00 Okay, nice job, okay.

1:08:01 Our brains are melded.

1:08:03 Adam sent something.

1:08:05 I'm— Here, I'm gonna give a hot take.

1:08:07 I did some matching work.

1:08:08 I found a match that is a couple blocks that way.

1:08:11 I think he's near.

1:08:13 Well, is it a...

1:08:14 Let's see.

1:08:15 Or is he in our Radar?

1:08:16 Let's see.

1:08:17 Oh, miss?

1:08:19 Okay, so you're wrong.

1:08:20 So we need to walk towards the other quadrant.

1:08:23 Wait, do we want to ask something else?

1:08:25 Oh, yes.

1:08:26 I guess we can ask another question.

1:08:28 Photo towards...

1:08:29 Photo towards you.

1:08:30 Yeah, I think that'll— That's just a useful one.

1:08:33 Yeah, okay.

1:08:41 Oh, and before we forget, because we answered that Radar, draw two cards.

1:08:48 10-minute Bonus.

1:08:51 30—Hoo-hoo-hoo!

1:08:54 Mm!

1:08:57 Abso...lutely!

1:09:00 Okay.

1:09:01 Photo towards me.

1:09:03 Another classic question.

1:09:06 Which is why...

1:09:10 ...I am in front of a super generic brick wall.

1:09:14 Oh, we got a photo.

1:09:16 He's in front of a brick wall that looks exactly like that.

1:09:22 Kind of, all of these houses are identical.

1:09:27 Maybe we just go search through these streets though.

1:09:30 'Cause like this looks...

1:09:31 I mean, that's the exact same shade of brick, right?

1:09:35 As these?

1:09:36 Yeah, I think so.

1:09:37 And here's a data point, Ben.

1:09:39 The sun is in his face.

1:09:41 And specifically, it's to his left.

1:09:45 So he's probably pointing that way.

1:09:47 Okay, good.

1:09:48 Good analysis.

1:09:50 I'm basically Rainbolt.

1:09:51 That's crazy.

1:09:52 Okay, let me— That's crazy, you just did that.

1:09:55 Let's just go.

1:09:56 Let's search some streets up first— at least.

1:09:58 Because maybe, you know, maybe the shade of the houses changes or something.

1:10:08 Folks, they are approaching.

1:10:10 We just have to hope that it takes them a while to get the right street.

1:10:17 The question for us now, Ben, is like...

1:10:20 I mean, we can pretty clearly see all the way down.

1:10:22 I think on a street like this, actually don't see a spot that would.

1:10:27 No, like a clear spot with that much brick.

1:10:30 I don't think this seems right because these houses

1:10:33 don't have a clean bit of brick that big, right?

1:10:37 Eh, at least not on the front of 'em.

1:10:40 Do we want ask another Photo, since it's only one card pull?

1:10:44 Uhh...

1:10:44 I guess like...

1:10:45 I don't know if any Photo would tell us anything.

1:10:47 Maybe let's just go a little bit down the street.

1:10:49 Because this is the really long one.

1:10:51 Yeah, this doesn't look quite right.

1:10:53 I don't think this is gonna do anything.

1:11:02 But let's make ourself as small as we can be.

1:11:12 This is definitely pointless.

1:11:14 (whispering) Oh my god, I do everything we can.

1:11:22 I really feel like it's one of these houses.

1:11:24 Also 'cause in that photo, there's one of those wires.

1:11:26 Yeah.

1:11:27 Those coaxial cables running down the side.

1:11:30 Mhm.

1:11:31 Lot of good looking brick around here.

1:11:34 Oh?

1:11:35 And there's a good looking Adam.

1:11:37 And a lotta good looking Hider.

1:11:39 Hey guys.

1:11:40 What's up?

1:11:56 Oh, you guys like my makeshift dead-cat that I made for my microphone?

1:12:01 Oh yeah, look at that.

1:12:03 It was crazy windy here the other day and I was like,

1:12:06 it's gonna ruin all my audio.

1:12:07 So I bought a sponge and a sock and super-glue at a convenience store.

1:12:14 MacGuyver.

1:12:15 Benjamin.

1:12:16 Alright.

1:12:17 Here are the cards.

1:12:18 Thank you very much.

1:12:20 I will see you all...

1:12:21 Good luck.

1:12:22 ...in five days.

1:12:25 No, not this evening!

1:12:43 Hello.

1:12:44 Welcome to my hiding zone.

1:12:48 Sam and Adam...

1:12:49 good luck.

1:12:50 Caption+ by JS* caption.plus| @caption_plus Welcome back to Jet Lag!

1:12:53 We're so back.

1:12:54 And guess what?

1:12:55 The next episode is out right now on Nebula.

1:12:57 That's true today.

1:12:58 That's true tomorrow.

1:13:00 That's true, uhm...

1:13:01 A week from now.

1:13:02 12 days from now.

1:13:03 12, I would say, 31 days from now, that will be true.

1:13:06 That is— It's so true, 31 days from now.

1:13:08 But anyways, that's always the deal.

1:13:10 We're always posting the next episode one week early on Nebula.

1:13:13 It's part of what makes the Nebula viewing

1:13:15 experience kinda the premium Jet Lag viewing experience,

1:13:18 but it's not just because of that.

1:13:19 It's also because of...

1:13:20 It's because of the Layover podcast!

1:13:22 I did the handoff perfectly.

1:13:24 That was really good.

1:13:25 The Layover podcast is our Jet Lag recap podcast

1:13:27 where we talk about what happened on this episode.

1:13:29 And we get into the behind-the-scenes.

1:13:31 We get into the stuff that we cut.

1:13:32 We talk more about the game design.

1:13:33 We talk a little bit more about our strategy.

1:13:35 We talk about how nothing— it was not my fault.

1:13:37 We talk about how nothing is ever our fault.

1:13:39 Specifically me.

1:13:40 If something went wrong, it was not our fault.

1:13:41 It was his fault.

1:13:42 Not me.

1:13:42 Especially you like to talk about that.

1:13:43 Another thing that's on Nebula that I'll go

1:13:45 ahead and tell you about right now is SCAV.

1:13:47 SCAV is a docuseries about the world's largest annual scavenger hunt.

1:13:50 We all produced the docuseries.

1:13:52 I directed this docuseries.

1:13:54 We all went to the University of Chicago to film this series.

1:13:56 We followed three different teams.

1:13:58 They were competing in the scavenger hunt across four days.

1:14:00 There is a list of 358 items,

1:14:02 and those three teams are racing to try to complete that list.

1:14:04 And it's pretty fun.

1:14:06 And folks, if you wanna get everything that Adam just talked about,

1:14:09 and the best Jet Lag viewing experience possible,

1:14:12 and so much more, you're just gonna wanna go to nebula.tv/jetlag.

1:14:17 Ooh.

1:14:17 That's how they know that we told you to do it.

1:14:19 And so then, they give us money.

1:14:21 And then we can keep making the show, and that's great.

1:14:23 Yeah, nebula.tv/jetlag.

1:14:24 Bye!

1:14:25 I feel like we did really good here.

1:14:26 Yep.
