Vampire Crawlers - The Most Ludicrous Dungeon Crawler Of All Time

0:01 I'm John, this is many a true nerd, and welcome to a Vampire Crawlers,

0:06 a game that is basically what happens when

0:09 the team behind the Vampire Survivors says, "Hey,

0:12 what if we made an equally fast-paced and ludicrous dungeon crawler?" But okay,

0:17 let's just jump on in because yeah,

0:19 this is way easier to get your head round it if you just see it in action.

0:23 So, obviously, what we've got here is a very classic old-school dungeon crawler.

0:28 I've got a map down in the bottom right there,

0:30 and my job is to explore this here dungeon.

0:33 There is, however, a small problem with that.

0:36 The dungeon is absolutely bloody full of various monsters

0:40 who are squatting on all the junctions and corridors,

0:42 meaning you can't actually get anywhere

0:44 without a fighting a handful of monsters.

0:47 But that's absolutely fine because when you do approach a monster,

0:51 what immediately happens is the most ridiculously fast-paced

0:54 deck builder turn-based combat I have ever seen.

0:58 At the start, it's all very sensible,

1:00 but this being from the same team as Vampire Survivors,

1:03 yeah, that's not going to last very long.

1:05 So, okay, we've got a certain number of action points in the bottom right,

1:09 and we've got a various cards.

1:10 They cost a certain number of action points.

1:12 So far, so very simple.

1:14 One fun thing about this game though is yeah, if you play cards sequentially,

1:19 they get more powerful, like ludicrously more powerful.

1:23 So, say yeah, these guys are about to attack me and do five damage.

1:28 So, if I play my armor card, which is free, I gain two armor,

1:31 so you know, two of that damage won't count for anything.

1:34 But you may notice that yeah, the cards that are worth a one are now glowing.

1:39 So, this card here previously would have given

1:41 me 10% more damage going forward in this fight.

1:44 Now instead, it's going to give me 20.

1:47 So, let's play that, and yeah, all of a sudden,

1:50 this attack I can play now is more powerful than it would have been previously.

1:54 So, yeah, nice damage.

1:55 We'll just toss some damage at these guys.

1:58 You may be asking, by the way, how much health do these guys have?

2:01 As far as I'm aware, you can't check that.

2:03 It's not that sort of a game.

2:04 We're not like, you know,

2:05 playing slowly or tactically enough to be checking how much health enemies have.

2:09 You just toss attacks at them till they die.

2:13 So, let's do that.

2:14 They all take a bit of damage.

2:16 No one dies.

2:16 I'd say okay.

2:18 Because here's where we get into, yes, the real point of the game here.

2:22 Gennaro, who I'm pretty sure is a returning character from Vampire Survivors,

2:26 he's a character I'm actually playing now.

2:28 So, if I play this card right now, two things are going to happen.

2:32 The first is he's going to increase the number

2:35 of projectiles all my attacks utilize by four.

2:38 And on top of that, yes, he does a one more thing as well.

2:41 Enemies come and attack me, that's absolutely fine.

2:45 So, yes, that knife is now up to 150 damage.

2:49 But on top of that, in the event I play any red card whatsoever,

2:53 he comes in and does bonus damage until I've played eight bloody red cards.

2:59 So, yeah, if I just play another knife at this point,

3:02 then all of a sudden enemies start dying in a hurry.

3:06 You start leveling up in a hurry.

3:07 There's more cards you could add to your deck.

3:10 Beautiful.

3:12 Yes, many items are of course returning from Vampire Survivors.

3:15 I did like, yes, the defensive Bible,

3:18 which you'll will get you in just a second.

3:21 But yeah, I can now play spinach to become even flipping stronger.

3:25 Then I play my armor if I want to.

3:29 So, yes, I can play the King Bible, which is going to do 240 damage.

3:33 Also potentially knock enemies back to the row

3:35 behind them so they can't attack me.

3:36 But also, that guy over there is going to do another 250 damage.

3:41 So, basically, it's like the first fight

3:43 of the game and things have already become ludicrous,

3:46 which I quite like, actually.

3:47 So, you know what?

3:49 A crown.

3:50 That's good.

3:50 Card that can be used once and it burns away,

3:53 but it does mean I level up faster.

3:55 So, yeah.

3:56 Let's play the gosh darn it, everybody died too quickly there.

4:00 Well, that's just bloody annoying.

4:05 So, yeah, things get some fast in a hurry.

4:08 So, play the knife to kill us some enemies,

4:11 then play the crown that is now a 30% sorry.

4:14 We're also leveling up and I want the room tracer, by the way.

4:19 There's a very important reason for that.

4:20 We'll get to that in just a minute.

4:22 Play the bloody crown, that's fine.

4:25 Then, yeah, play the armor to reset the combo so

4:28 that I can again double damage on the king Bible.

4:32 Then again, you know what?

4:33 Let's do the room tracer.

4:35 The room tracer is hilarious because the room

4:37 tracer does a certain amount of damage,

4:40 but also it just kind of bounces around the screen and you

4:44 don't really know what what it is or isn't going to hit,

4:46 which I find delightful.

4:48 Then just finish everybody off with the Bible together with that guy.

4:52 More knives are not a bad idea because just tossing

4:54 a free attack forever because I got to do his bonus damage.

4:57 That's pretty good, actually.

5:00 Yeah, you know what?

5:00 I'm just going to take another knife for now.

5:02 Knives are doing perfectly well at the moment.

5:05 But, yeah, we've also got ourselves access to a treasure chest here,

5:09 which is going to give me Yes, a gem.

5:12 So, I can plug this into a card of my choosing.

5:15 Every time I play the card, this effect happens.

5:17 You can modify your cards as you go.

5:19 And challenge the start of the game, growth.

5:22 Definitely going to say growth is a good idea.

5:24 I'm going to plug that into a knife

5:25 so I'm going to be playing knives basically constantly.

5:28 So, yeah, we'll just uh put that into there.

5:30 Beautiful.

5:32 And on top of that, hang on.

5:34 There's a mystery over here.

5:36 Just a crack you open, my friend, and Okay.

5:42 What I can do at this point is just evolve cards or rather merge them.

5:46 But, that costs a three.

5:48 I don't have three energy right now.

5:51 So we might come back to you later, buddy.

5:56 once you get into the basics here, there we go.

5:59 XP coming in is leveling up in a hurry.

6:33 This is just for this fight by the way.

6:34 It all resets at the end of the fights.

6:36 But yeah.

6:37 We now just toss in 10 million knives.

6:39 Those guys all die and as you can see, the fights are very, very bloody.

6:44 Fast indeed.

6:46 So yeah, just put in a knife,

6:48 then do a bit of healing, then the armor, then the room tracer.

6:53 But yeah, the room tracer gets just a stupid if

6:55 you get the number of projectiles per attack up a bit,

6:58 which this guy is a very good at doing.

7:01 And yeah, just play this knife every time it comes up

7:03 immediately cuz that's just getting me more and more flipping XP.

7:07 And then yeah, spinach first to make my tanks more powerful,

7:10 then another knife and then king bible last.

7:15 And there we go.

7:15 Thanks to the bonus attack damage and that killed those guys super quickly.

7:20 Do I want any of these?

7:21 I'm going to reroll see if I get something better and armor every time I attack.

7:57 So, knight, then a Bible, then a knight, then a Bible.

8:02 And yeah, cuz we've cleared out that uh front row, no one can attack us.

8:09 So, a knight with bonus XP into that guy,

8:12 though I've not got any free cards at that point.

8:19 That gets so silly when you've got many, many projectiles.

8:22 And speaking of which, that's opponent's upgrade from one to two.

8:27 If you find it in the overworld, it's permanent.

8:30 That's pretty good, actually.

8:32 So, uh right, at this point, that is a bad draw.

8:37 So, in which case, yeah, play these spinach first.

8:43 so may as well just get some uh healing going on.

8:45 That is a bad luck, that's going to happen sometimes.

8:50 And yeah, room tracer is guaranteed to kill two,

8:53 and it's going to just kill everyone else, too, just to buy pure chance.

9:04 Immediately, we're making very, very fast progress here.

9:07 So, let's just take out yeah, you uh stupid losers.

10:07 an optional sub boss here that you can choose to take on or not.

10:17 So, that there is just a coffin surrounded by many, many skeletons.

10:21 Uh So, yeah.

10:23 Get some armor up.

10:24 Use that to, yeah, get loads of a bonus health.

10:27 Toss in the knife and then follow that up with the root tracer.

10:31 But, these guys are a lot tougher.

10:33 And also, they hit really bloody hard, so me have made a mistake, actually,

10:39 cuz this guy's not great at healing, and that is a bad draw, actually.

10:43 So, yeah, bare minimum,

10:48 I can use the Bible to kill a one of them and force them to rotate.

10:53 Root tracer might kill more of them than I'm expecting if you get lucky.

10:57 Come on, I need There we go.

10:59 Some armor.

11:01 Everybody loves armor.

11:03 So, yeah, get the strength up first, and then toss in a more knives,

11:06 then get some of healing going on, cuz a bloody hell,

11:08 I'm going to need it after this fight.

11:15 So, yes, armor to double the effect of you.

11:17 So, we're up to what?

11:42 But yes, they just have to sort of rotate to keep doing damage.

11:59 Then just root tracer.

12:03 And then use King Pyke to take out As it turns out,

12:07 basically nobody cuz they were just not there.

12:09 Also, for some reason they give you junk.

12:12 I don't know why.

12:13 They just do.

12:14 So right, finish off some of you stupid losers.

12:17 Use that to draw a card, which is fine.

12:21 Use armor to defend myself and get you back up there.

12:23 So as the fights go on, you get basically exponentially more powerful,

12:28 which is kind of hilarious, actually.

12:30 So take out you stupid losers.

12:35 So it was a bit of a young people side,

12:37 but it does get me a super mega awesome chest.

12:40 So Seriously, game, I can't use that yet.

12:43 I don't have enough flipping anything.

12:48 If played cards earn coins or attach and lead it to something, and then yeah,

12:54 if I keep it to my hand I'm going to put that on a king of Pyke.

13:00 So then if I just hold on to that one, everything else becomes more powerful.

13:05 So yeah, if I just to finish off you at this point,

13:08 my friends, and yeah, I'm just getting stronger and stronger.

13:12 at this point we're just absolutely annihilating them, which is delightful.

13:44 This becomes even more powerful because the King of Bible is there.

13:48 Then just toss it down, kill a whole bunch of people.

13:50 We're no longer under attack,

13:52 but was really looking for some uh healing, but I didn't get healing.

13:57 So, what can you do, eh?

14:00 So, yeah, I don't want to summon this guy cuz I want to summon him

14:03 at the start of the main fight that's

14:05 about to happen against the actual final boss.

14:07 What I will do is yeah, do these first so I at least get some healing.

14:14 And there we go.

14:14 I got like uh one uh health back as a result of that.

14:17 It's not much, but it's better than nothing.

14:20 So, okay.

14:22 This is now the boss.

14:23 Waves of basic enemies, then a nasty one at the end.

14:26 So, make sure you're sufficiently powered up before the nasty one appears.

14:33 Then just toss it in at the root, right?

14:35 So, that should do us some good work there.

14:40 And then, yeah, the light time is kind of useless right now.

14:43 If we're lucky, we might knock some people back.

14:45 So, yeah, we take a little bit of damage, but not much.

14:49 The point is, however, toss it in at the knife, and then, yeah,

14:52 we can have Well, what if we've got uh more flipping level ups first?

14:57 So, Okay, the cross costs uh which you want

15:02 to start getting some more AP will be fine.
