Apple Music

0:00 Um, I checked out the Sexy Red,

0:01 and I came to the conclusion that my lifestyle is

0:04 not conducive to keeping up with these textures and sounds.

0:08 Precisely.

0:08 Uh, so I did enjoy it.

0:09 I had to hearken back I text you guys all this.

0:11 I had to hearken [clears throat] back to a time to relate.

0:14 It's called vote.org.

0:17 And you should [music] actively be looking

0:19 at elections in your area both locally,

0:22 city, state, and federal cuz there's a lot of elections [music]

0:26 where you as the consumer can actively work

0:31 to elect individuals that care about these issues.

0:34 The only class of people I ever see

0:37 talk about not voting is hip-hop and black folks.

0:42 I never see no one else talk about not voting.

0:45 Am I the only one?

0:46 Eddie, what's up?

0:48 Lala, Nadeska, Ebro, Rap Life Review is on.

0:52 Uh, where's our guy Nick?

0:54 Uh, he's running late.

0:55 You know, it's Oh, this happens.

0:56 LA traffic.

0:57 Yeah, no.

0:57 Spend a little time in Japan,

0:59 you get a little weird and it's just like he's international Nick,

1:01 you know what I'm saying?

1:03 International Nick.

1:04 International Nick.

1:06 Uh, well, we got new music.

1:07 I saw Black uh, shout to Black.

1:09 Uh, I saw him at uh, we had an artist uh,

1:12 relations uh, dinner last week in Los Angeles.

1:16 Star-studded.

1:17 I saw um,

1:19 We don't get invited to that, Eddie.

1:20 Is that why you're looking around?

1:22 crazy?

1:22 have to hear about it from the executives.

1:24 and I was like, "Dang, no invite." And he just kept the conversation going.

1:28 about last week.

1:29 Executive what?

1:30 It was I didn't plan it either.

1:32 [laughter] So, I don't even know.

1:33 I got invited.

1:34 I didn't know who was invited who wasn't.

1:35 I wasn't a part of the planning.

1:37 You know, I'm I'm going to spill the beans.

1:38 I was over there

1:39 I think you should be invited.

1:40 That's a miss.

1:41 I walked over there to our artist

1:42 relation department that that that's through the shindig,

1:44 and I just happened to be in their department that day,

1:46 and they were talking about it.

1:47 Everyone got real weird, and I was like, "Damn, no invite." You know,

1:50 you do the thing where you play like you're joking, but you're kind of serious.

1:53 I see you, Carlito.

1:54 Yeah, I was joke serious,

1:55 and there ain't nobody There nobody extending an invitation to me.

1:59 Now, that needs to be That needs to be rectified.

2:01 I will work on this.

2:03 All right, thank you, sir.

2:04 back next year, Eddie.

2:05 I'll check on this.

2:06 Um but uh I saw Jaden Smith.

2:09 I saw Willow.

2:10 I saw Kehlani.

2:11 I saw Black

2:12 Are you just about to tell us everybody who was there except us?

2:15 Like where is this going?

2:17 [laughter] Well, because I saw Black,

2:17 and he was very excited about the music he's about to be dropping.

2:20 That song is fire, too.

2:21 That song is fire.

2:22 was very excited about her album that's I think dropping this week.

2:25 Pretty good.

2:25 Dropping Friday.

2:27 Yeah.

2:26 So, we got a you know, that's all.

2:28 He was trying to tie it all

2:29 And and I was just trying to tie it all together

2:31 that I ran into the guy in Black and somebody we all like.

2:34 Well, it backfired.

2:35 Well, cuz you guys didn't get invited, which I didn't know.

2:39 Well, we weren't Was not aware that you weren't invited.

2:40 Sexyy Red, new tape out on the cover of the Rap Life playlist this week.

2:45 Um I checked out the Sexyy Red,

2:46 and I came to the conclusion uh that my lifestyle

2:49 is not conducive to keeping up with these textures and sounds.

2:54 Precisely.

2:53 Uh so, I did enjoy it.

2:55 I had to hearken back I text you guys all this.

2:57 I had to hearken back to [clears throat] a time to relate.

3:00 It's also music that I can't really drive around to cuz I have kids in the car.

3:04 At all.

3:06 [laughter] And I have an 11-year-old who's very aware.

3:09 Yes.

3:09 Oh, yeah.

3:10 A sponge.

3:10 Okay, but what's the Well, no, just completely aware.

3:12 She listens But she does listen to Summer Walker, which is I mean, we all right.

3:18 [laughter] It ain't It ain't what it is.

3:20 Yeah.

3:20 So, yeah.

3:22 [laughter]

3:22 But we not going I can't just sit with my

3:24 You can't say Sexyy Red.

3:25 It don't make no sense.

3:25 You can't do it.

3:27 Yo, but Sexyy Red, great rollout.

3:29 Very noisy rollout.

3:30 Eddie, you got any insight, Low Nadeska?

3:32 I heard it.

3:33 It was cool.

3:34 It was Sexyy Red.

3:35 It was a Sexyy Red.

3:36 Like you can't really critique it.

3:37 It was just Sexyy Red.

3:38 It suits her fans.

3:39 It suits her.

3:40 She doing what Sexyy Red does.

3:41 That's it.

3:43 Exactly.

3:42 That's it.

3:44 Nadeska uh I mean uh Eddie, any assessment?

3:47 So, Sexyy Red just isn't the I'm not the demographic for Sexyy Red.

3:51 She don't really do it for me,

3:52 and that's fine with me and that's fine for Sexy Red and her fans.

3:55 I'm good.

3:56 I hope y'all enjoy it though.

3:57 Now, if you were living a different lifestyle,

4:00 you were still outside in the strip clubs.

4:03 [clears throat] This second week we're bringing up strip clubs.

4:06 And then Sexy Red, what else you doing?

4:08 Uh if you was really out there like that, would this were

4:11 you able to take it a time travel back in time?

4:15 Certain certain albums and certain music you got to hear outside.

4:19 Since I don't be outside, Sexy Red ain't for me.

4:23 So if I was outside, then yeah,

4:26 I would have a different view of Sexy Red and her album and her music.

4:30 But since I'm very domesticated at this point,

4:32 all I'm doing is watering plants and playing with my dog,

4:35 it don't really But now But now, fake drug dealing, I love fake drug dealing.

4:39 I can do that from the safety of my home.

4:41 I just can't listen to Sexy Red the same way.

4:44 Come on, man.

4:44 Listen to rappers who's talking about drug dealing like cocaine, right?

4:47 Okay, okay.

4:48 So you're just in the house pitching working all Okay.

4:50 I could cook all kind of coke in the house,

4:52 but you know, Sexy Red, not necessarily.

4:55 Somebody's going to take that clip [laughter]

5:02 That's how you afford those outfits.

5:03 Well, okay, look, how about speaking of rappers who usually you

5:06 have to be outside to enjoy their music, uh The Baby.

5:08 So he dropped his album a couple months back, few months back, Be More Grateful.

5:12 Um and he just came up for an interview and we

5:14 talked about on this this project's a little bit different.

5:16 Of course, he has like Pop That Thing,

5:17 which is like sounds like it could be a song of the summer.

5:20 And strip Kobe, but he also has some more like serious, thoughtful,

5:24 vulnerable tracks on the album and I asked him about that, like why now?

5:27 And he said he could have made these at any point,

5:29 he just didn't feel like it was the right timing.

5:31 So here's The Baby talking about his new album, Be More Grateful.

5:34 I can also do too, right?

5:35 I can make an amazing video.

5:36 I can do this, I can do that, but when it's just me and a microphone,

5:40 you know what I mean?

5:41 Like I'm I'm one of the best this in this right now, you You I'm saying?

5:45 And I feel like putting that on display

5:47 with this album is something that I had to do.

5:50 Yeah.

5:50 Yeah.

5:50 There's no better time than now.

5:52 Like I had to.

5:52 People got me up.

5:53 They're not being long-winded.

5:54 Like they got me up.

5:56 Like they they forgot.

5:57 So it's like I I had to remind them.

5:58 You know what I'm saying?

6:00 So I really liked I actually was listening

6:02 to the baby's album again this weekend, right?

6:05 Because I feel like people are Pop That Thing is a big hit.

6:10 But one of the first singles was Letter to my Letter

6:14 to the Y N was one of his first looks where I was like,

6:17 "Yo, that was fire." I don't believe people really grasp it.

6:21 Or just It It didn't get enough play.

6:23 It didn't get Sometimes when an artist is really big like DaBaby and has had

6:28 this kind of mainstream success the hip-hop space

6:31 that would really enjoy thoughtful music is not tuning

6:36 in because they think all the music is

6:38 like the stuff that they're hearing on the radio

6:41 or tied to a lot of the shenanigans maybe that we've seen in the past.

6:45 Yeah, and I would have been guilty of that, too, with this album.

6:47 That's what I thought going in and I was surprised by that song,

6:50 by you know, Beneficial, by Rain Rain.

6:53 There's like a lot of a lot of really dope and I was asking him

6:55 about that like how cuz he's on his tour right now that he says it's smaller,

6:58 it's like really intimate, it's for the day one fans.

7:00 How are they reacting to songs like this and why he didn't make it in the past?

7:04 And he said he felt like he always had to live up to that persona that we knew

7:08 him for and that he knew the records

7:10 that were working so he just kept leaning on those.

7:12 So he said he's recorded a lot of songs like those over

7:14 the past few years and he would just throw them away,

7:16 like never put them out cuz it never felt right.

7:18 So I do hope people will check it out.

7:21 I like the album.

7:21 I was really surprised by it.

7:23 It's a lot of good joints on it and it's interesting he's I don't know,

7:25 he's in a different space.

7:26 He obviously had a lot of controversy the past

7:28 few years so like he said he's moving different,

7:30 he's he's wiser, he's focused on raising the kids.

7:32 What's up, Eddie?

7:33 You know what, though?

7:34 He's done that before and I I can't remember the context for it,

7:37 but I believe he had an album dedicated

7:39 to his brother and if I remember correctly,

7:41 yeah, his brother I believe committed

7:45 Committed suicide, yeah.

7:46 And he dedicated the album to him and had

7:48 some songs that like really were uh you know,

7:52 breaking down his emotions and his feelings

7:54 and the loss of losing someone so close to him.

7:56 So, him diving into deep sub- subject matter isn't necessarily new,

8:01 but it's the narrative game.

8:02 Like, we know the hits and we know some

8:04 of the online some would perceive them as shenanigans.

8:07 So, that becomes what The Baby is to a lot of people,

8:10 but he's always dived into deep topics.

8:14 I will say that I think a miss and maybe on this chapter of where The Baby's at.

8:20 Um I remember hearing him on the Dreamville drama thing.

8:26 record was fire.

8:27 And he had a verse on there and everybody was like, "Yo, I didn't know he could

8:31 That verse was fire.

8:33 I think sometimes artists miss opportunities,

8:36 especially in hip-hop, because like he's saying,

8:39 he was chasing a certain thing that had been very successful for him.

8:42 And so, the narrative or the the the marketing or whatever becomes,

8:47 you know, that's who this artist is.

8:50 Uh I think an artist like The Baby would be served

8:53 very well to do like a producer specific tape of some sort.

8:58 Like, The Baby and Metro Boomin or even you know,

9:01 this may some people might think this is crazy,

9:03 but like, you know, uh The Baby and 9th Wonder, you know, some North Carolina

9:10 fire.

9:09 You know what I'm saying?

9:10 Some something that's like very like someone like something that is

9:14 something that's very hip-hop and very thoughtful and the beats are very

9:17 hip-hop and it's just like it's very intentional and it's for people

9:21 who like thoughtful rap and it's rolled out with that intent.

9:26 Yeah.

9:26 I don't think that's too wild.

9:27 I think that's actually a a great thought cuz

9:28 on the project he also says like he wants to, you know,

9:31 put me up there with Drake, Kendrick,

9:33 Cole and you know, we talked about people saying things like that a lot,

9:36 but not necessarily meaning it or like trying

9:39 to take the steps necessary to get there.

9:41 And he was talking about how he is 100% serious about it, right?

9:46 And so now he's like doing those things and showing

9:48 people just how good he is as a rapper.

9:49 So, that could be a great next step for him.

9:51 But, the full interview is going to be out

9:52 this week if y'all want to check that out.

9:54 correct ourselves cuz Nick's not going to be able

9:55 to do it cuz he's not here right now.

9:56 Kirk was the album dedicated to his dad.

9:59 His father.

9:59 And My Brother's Keeper was an EP dedicated to his brother.

10:02 Thanks, guys.

10:03 Got it.

10:05 Yeah.

10:05 Yeah, yeah.

10:05 He also started like um a mental

10:08 health uh organization after his brother passed away,

10:11 the Baby Cares, so people could get help.

10:13 But, he he spoke about basically when he put that music out

10:15 not not wanting to go on a press run and talk about

10:18 his pain and his family's loss and really lean into that, but he

10:21 feels like he's just like in a different pocket right now.

10:24 Anyway, I was surprised.

10:25 I It was my first time meeting him.

10:27 He's not what I thought he was going to be like.

10:29 He's very talkative.

10:30 He's a great inter- interview.

10:32 Um yeah, he got something to say.

10:33 Very engaging.

10:34 I don't know.

10:35 He'll come in a room and like the room like the room will glow like for real.

10:38 So, it's weird the disconnect between what we experience

10:42 with the Baby and what the public perceives him as.

10:46 Well, yeah, because I think that he's had a lot of incidents, you know.

10:49 Some of them self-inflicted, too.

10:50 Like, let's not act like it's all unwarranted.

10:52 Yeah.

10:52 yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

10:53 yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

10:53 yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

10:54 yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

10:55 Um you can't run away from that.

10:56 Shout to Ludacris back outside uh for for, you know, the Legends pull over.

11:02 Look, you know, we've had a over the last year and change resurgence

11:07 a resurgence of cats that have been doing this for a while,

11:10 and we've been very happy.

11:14 Mhm.

11:13 Ghostface, Nas and Premier, Slick Rick,

11:16 AZ uh just dropped um uh I'm I'm I'm losing a lot of

11:21 that count?

11:21 TI The Clipse, obviously.

11:23 [clears throat] TI um what else am I missing?

11:26 I'm I'm sure I'm missing some names, and if y'all think of them,

11:28 but why wouldn't we be the same excited for a Ludacris?

11:32 Cuz he hasn't lost a step.

11:35 Yep.

11:36 I don't like it.

11:37 You don't like the song?

11:38 No.

11:38 Not the song.

11:38 Yeah, I don't like the song.

11:39 Like the song or god?

11:40 I don't like the song.

11:41 But is that with the beat him?

11:43 The The beat is cool cuz I heard like they did a session

11:46 him and DJ Toomp and he played like maybe six or seven beats.

11:49 This is the last beat he picked.

11:51 I don't like what he did with the song.

11:52 I thought it was going to go somewhere completely different.

11:54 Okay.

11:54 Fair enough.

11:55 Throughout as someone who used to be a big Ludacris fan,

11:58 there he He has hits, right?

12:00 He has hits.

12:01 No, yeah.

12:01 Okay.

12:01 He has hits.

12:02 His beat selection hasn't always been the best.

12:04 Like we Well, it No.

12:06 Well, [clears throat] earlier earlier in his career.

12:10 Um yeah, his his beat selection on his albums isn't always great.

12:13 But he got hits.

12:14 So, the ones that hit hit, but the rest mhm

12:19 That's not I don't I don't know, bro.

12:20 So, then maybe he's somebody that needs a producer.

12:22 He needs somebody to be like, "Here.

12:24 Here's the record you need to be on.

12:26 You rap.

12:28 We take it from here." Yeah, exactly.

12:29 Like Like when you get a metro that can give you

12:31 direction and it's easy for us to sit here and critique.

12:34 That's the job, I guess.

12:34 But you know, that's what Ludacris does

12:37 and But he But he'd be rapping his ass off.

12:39 So, shout out to Chris Bridges.

12:43 Yeah.

12:42 Um JT talking about an album on the way after releasing his single Numb

12:48 in a recent interview with Complex working

12:49 on the release of full album later this year.

12:51 Low and I really like the last JT album.

12:54 Yes.

12:54 We did.

12:55 We We really did.

12:56 JT we getting to it.

12:57 So, uh let's see what this this next thing is

13:00 going to sound like.

13:00 Snoop Dogg is dropping a biopic.

13:05 [snorts]

13:06 Now, Eddie, you said you didn't listen to the Snoop

13:07 Dogg album cuz he had a fake beard on.

13:09 I didn't say that sentence.

13:11 That's not the sentence I said.

13:12 Nah, nice try though.

13:13 That was great.

13:14 What What did you say?

13:15 That was funny.

13:15 I said I just didn't I didn't I have not

13:17 been inspired to listen to Snoop's new music as of yet.

13:21 Um and then we were separately talking about his various

13:25 personas and then Ed decided to tie those two in together.

13:30 So yeah, I mean You think he's going to talk about Snoop Lion in this biopic?

13:35 I would assume so.

13:35 I would assume so.

13:36 Okay, can I have a second to explain this confusing era?

13:39 have a separate conversation, right?

13:41 Can we stop with the biopics?

13:42 I think we're kind of biopicked out.

13:44 It's never going to stop.

13:45 No, but like there's been an insurgence of biopics.

13:48 Like there used to be like every now and then we get a Ray and be like,

13:51 "Oh, that was great." And then you get something else.

13:53 But man, recently they've been old in.

13:56 Like no one went and watched that Bruce Springsteen one.

13:58 We got a Queen one.

14:00 We got a uh But I think I think I think that Was he Were these all on Netflix?

14:06 No, these are theatrical releases.

14:07 What's my Elton John?

14:08 We got that.

14:09 We got What's the one Timothy Chalamet did?

14:12 The dude that be Man, what's that that be God damn, Bob Dylan.

14:18 I like the Bob Dylan one.

14:19 And I've heard a theory I've heard a theory

14:21 that a reason why we're getting so many Mercury one, too.

14:24 So you like you like the lot of Queen.

14:25 Yeah.

14:26 Queen, yeah.

14:26 The Whitney The Whitney Houston one?

14:28 No, that was Like no one saw that Like we're getting an influx.

14:32 Yeah, the Whitney Houston Like that's the problem.

14:35 as these as these legends um get older and you know,

14:41 they want to they want to also tell their story,

14:44 which they have every right to do.

14:45 I think that's what's happening is, you know, we're get we're getting to a time,

14:49 Eddie, where people want to make sure their story gets told.

14:53 I've heard a theory though that because music isn't selling the way it

14:56 used to and because of people are selling the rights to the music,

14:59 these bigger companies are pushing these biopics out because it it

15:04 it causes people to stream the music once the movies come out.

15:08 Because they invested so much in buying these artists' catalogs.

15:11 Think about some of the people we said they're not here any longer.

15:14 So how do you capitalize on them?

15:15 Because even though we're getting a Beatles biopic and it's going to be

15:19 every single member of the Beatles is getting their own biopic movie.

15:23 I've heard that the reason why they're releasing these is

15:25 these companies are trying to get their investment um basically to boost

15:29 out of the money.

15:30 Yeah, yeah.

15:30 Because you know, after you know,

15:32 a few years people just stopped listening to the music

15:34 as much and this is how they can garner interest.

15:36 That's just a rumor.

15:37 No, no, no.

15:38 I think it's a great business move.

15:40 If I own the catalog of someone and I figured like How am I going to get

15:44 the story.

15:45 Let's create more content around this music beyond just people streaming it.

15:51 Like what are the other things we can

15:53 do with this music that can entertain people?

15:55 You know what I'm saying?

15:56 So I don't know if that's prob- I don't I don't see it as problematic.

16:01 As much content is coming out across all these platforms good, bro.

16:05 Cuz I Cuz some of these Well, now that's a different convo.

16:08 If they're all bad, then yes, that's a problem.

16:11 And and also all But by the way, they're not all bad.

16:14 Like I know I know I know three or four that I like.

16:17 He just said it's too much.

16:18 And the issue too is a lot of them um cuz now we're at the age

16:22 where we lived through it and then

16:23 there's books and you know, you've lived there.

16:25 The the timetables off and they're not actually telling facts.

16:28 They're telling like versions of true stories that aren't It's Yeah, it's weird.

16:33 It's weird.

16:34 So then the you and I'm going to say that's a us problem.

16:36 It's not a you know, they're making a movie.

16:38 Movies exist in their own form of media,

16:40 but it's weird when you watch it and you're like,

16:41 "That didn't really happen like that, but okay.

16:46 Um so in saying that, shout out Snoop.

16:48 That was a good great biopic.

16:50 Straight Outta Compton was great.

16:53 Was Straight Outta Compton was that considered a biopic?

16:54 Yeah, for sure.

16:55 100%.

16:56 For sure.

16:57 That was a good one, too.

16:58 Y'all like that one?

16:59 I do.

16:59 I do.

17:00 I like my Straight Outta Compton.

17:01 I mean, for Snoop this is also a business thing, right?

17:02 Cuz it's he's doing it through like Death Row pictures.

17:07 Yeah.

17:07 And I think he to to Eddie's point, I think he owns that catalog.

17:12 Yeah.

17:11 So yeah, so how do you How do you Oh, LOOK WHO MADE IT, GUYS.

17:16 HEY.

17:16 HEY.

17:18 that's how Nick Nick be knowing.

17:21 Sorry for my delay, guys.

17:23 No, listen, man.

17:25 It we're lucky that you're you're here and didn't hear the first portion

17:28 of the show because that way you can't tell us what we screwed up.

17:31 Which is probably a lot.

17:32 I got one right.

17:33 I got I took care of one.

17:36 Yeah, yeah.

17:37 Appreciate you.

17:38 Cardi B wraps up the successful tour in Atlanta.

17:41 Uh the last show did not go off without a hitch,

17:44 though, with the [laughter] social media uh kerfuffle she had.

17:50 You saw that, right?

17:52 that.

17:51 Where she was screaming at the security, taped herself,

17:54 and was like, "I'm not so performing." And then stormed out.

17:58 And then came back in and performed.

17:59 And then yeah.

18:01 Yeah, yeah, yeah.

18:01 She said somebody resolved it.

18:03 The coordinator like her tweet or post or something.

18:07 I bet they did.

18:08 My camera went on right on time, though, for the shenanigans.

18:11 that perfectly.

18:12 She was just like, "Right here." She was like, "Wait, hang on.

18:14 I'm upset.

18:14 Let me record." [laughter] Smart, though.

18:17 And caught that joint.

18:19 Hey, listen, she keeps the story going.

18:20 This Cardi B's good.

18:22 Yeah.

18:22 It's true.

18:23 Cardi B's real good.

18:24 So, uh salute to Cardi B on a successful tour.

18:28 And some of the best like random guest appearances I just off

18:31 the top of my memory she had she had Missy, Vibes Cartel, T.I.

18:36 Me Yeah, Jeezy.

18:38 Crazy.

18:39 show was tough.

18:40 Yeah, and Jimmy Jimmy Carter's like daughter came and gave

18:43 her like an autograph like Jimmy Carter book or something like that.

18:47 I'm like, "Yo, you really you really out the mayor me the mayor of New York."

18:51 Tyler Perry was there, too?

18:52 Posting about her, talking about like we're trying to

18:53 And then our mayor of New York went the mayor of New

18:55 York has a whole campaign where he went and shot the commercial backstage.

19:00 Just for schools, right?

19:02 for a kid signing up for schools.

19:05 Yeah.

19:05 Uh early.

19:05 I think it's 2K or 3K.

19:07 2K, yeah, for everybody.

19:11 that.

19:10 Oh, yeah.

19:11 Lil Wayne's in his feelings.

19:12 Do you guys care about that?

19:15 Uh Yeah, I care.

19:17 Eddie, what you got What you got to say, Eddie?

19:18 I care about it.

19:19 I care about it.

19:19 Here's my thing with Wayne, man.

19:21 Cuz I got I got a couple thoughts on that one, too.

19:22 I just It would be better if you didn't talk about these things, Wayne.

19:28 Like you're not wrong.

19:29 You're not Like you Wayne, icon, right?

19:33 Top 10 rapper ever, possibly.

19:35 His highs of were higher than of most,

19:37 you know, of Drakes and 50 Cents, Waynes, Tupacs, Biggies.

19:41 His highs were high as hell, bro.

19:43 But between the conversation about the Super Bowl

19:47 and the conversation with the Grammys and Coachella, they're all valid points.

19:53 Like he's not necessarily wrong for feeling the way he feels.

19:57 It's just no one wants to Well, let me No one's kind of I'm generalizing here.

20:02 No one wants to hear you complain about it.

20:04 Like we want to be a fan We fans of Lil Wayne want to fight that fight for you.

20:08 Like people will get online be like, "Yo, Wayne should have been at Coachella.

20:11 Why ain't Wayne" It's kind of crazy.

20:12 You're like, "Damn, he ain't been at Coachella.

20:13 That is kind of wow." Nominated for a Grammy.

20:16 You can't tell me the The Carter III could have been

20:19 nom- I don't I don't know who was nominated that year.

20:22 I don't know why he wasn't invited, but damn,

20:24 The Carter III was the hottest album One of the hottest

20:26 albums in hip-hop history that didn't get nominated for a Grammy?

20:29 So, your fans and people that love hip-hop will

20:31 will have these arguments and fight these fights for you.

20:34 But when you continuously get online to complain,

20:38 it just feels like you're fishing for compliments or you

20:42 or you want to whine and then have people like,

20:45 "Yeah, you're right.

20:45 We want to validate you, Lil Wayne." It's just a bad look, bro.

20:48 Like you're that guy.

20:49 You don't need to go and and remind us and then not only complain about it,

20:53 get emotional about it.

20:55 Like, "Maybe I just need to do better.

20:57 Maybe this is just a humbling experience." And we got friends that do that, man.

21:02 We know what that is when we see it.

21:03 And if you even look at the comments,

21:04 like you It's always interesting and comments can be a bad gauge,

21:07 but you're looking and people are kind of like cooking Wayne.

21:09 It's like, bro, we Stop.

21:12 Stop going online to have these um to look for like

21:15 emotional support with your with your with your you know followers, yeah.

21:21 It's weak, bro.

21:23 Yeah, it's it's the continuous bitching and moaning.

21:27 And it's also like he has this theory of like he just lives in his own bubble.

21:30 So, if you're living in such a big ass bubble of you just by yourself,

21:34 why are you concerned about not being invited to Coachella?

21:36 Why are you concerned about not having a Grammy nomination?

21:38 Why are you concerned about not being in included

21:41 in any type of event if you live

21:43 in your own world and you don't care

21:44 about the perception or how people look at you.

21:46 We already know what your career is.

21:48 Your career is stellar, Cash Money, Carter series,

21:51 you know, mixtapes, all that and and more.

21:55 So, I'm I'm trying to see like what is he What else does he want?

21:59 What else does he What else does he ask you for?

22:01 Yeah, but if you live in a bubble, you don't If you don't care, why do you care

22:06 does, though.

22:07 Okay, well.

22:09 I mean, maybe there was a time he didn't.

22:11 And that And times change.

22:13 And people change.

22:14 And maybe he is paying attention more.

22:16 And maybe he is looking back at his legacy and saying,

22:18 Well, maybe maybe I should have cared about these things.

22:21 And

22:21 Maybe you should care about his recent releases cuz they've been dog

22:24 But see, now those are two different things, though, man.

22:26 Those are two different things, man.

22:28 That's why we See, okay okay, so see okay, see

22:30 I don't know if they're two different things.

22:32 But they're not.

22:33 Because maybe if there was more care put into what was happening now,

22:39 these these places where you do want to clearly want to be invited, right?

22:45 Would be inviting you because they would see that you're caring

22:48 more about the product and the craft and you know, whatever whatever.

22:51 Listen, I think Lil Wayne's also had a stellar career.

22:56 So, I think he's just starting to care more.

22:59 You know, he's getting older and you know, he's looking around and saying saying

23:06 to himself like any competitor and somebody

23:08 who's great like what things haven't I

23:10 conquered and why haven't I conquered them?

23:13 Right.

23:12 You know what I mean?

23:13 If that, you know, cuz he wanted to be the greatest rapper

23:15 and he wanted and he convinced y'all that he was the greatest rapper alive.

23:18 Oh, when was that?

23:18 When was that?

23:19 When was that?

23:20 Time out.

23:20 Stop.

23:22 [laughter]

23:21 Take three tweet tweet.

23:23 What What's the What was the shade right there?

23:27 What?

23:27 It was really at love cuz he was one of the bloggers propagating Oh, wow.

23:30 That went over my head.

23:31 That happened so fast.

23:32 Okay.

23:33 Convinced [laughter] y'all.

23:34 I missed it.

23:35 And and at one point he was.

23:37 And he convinced us at one point he was.

23:39 So yes, I stand on that.

23:40 And a lot of people stand on that.

23:41 He convinced y'all.

23:42 And [laughter] and and so

23:44 Like the slide What's with the shade today, bro?

23:48 Today?

23:49 That's happening

23:51 [laughter] Finally he admits it.

23:52 Right.

23:53 Today?

23:54 What you talking about?

23:55 WHAT ARE YOU SAYING, BRO?

23:57 Um but anyway, still he is one of the goats, man.

24:00 And he clearly to [snorts] y'all who are the you know,

24:04 the social media police and you know,

24:06 the arbiters of what you're allowed to do in public on social media.

24:10 You don't like him putting his feelings on social media.

24:13 So let Wayne, if you're watching this now that you're outside your bubble,

24:16 listen to what social media says about how

24:19 you're supposed to use it and use it correctly, which is not to do this.

24:22 want him to continue to do that?

24:23 I I don't give a damn.

24:24 If that's what he want to do, I don't care what people do.

24:27 I'm not like y'all.

24:28 for an artist like Wayne like you can't speak on Coachella, right?

24:31 That that's a big deal.

24:32 I don't I don't I don't I think he's a human being.

24:34 Whether he said this on social media or said this in a song, right?

24:38 Like

24:39 It would It would still be received It would still be received as

24:41 who can make the phone call for him?

24:42 Like how hard is it for Wayne to still get booked for I don't know.

24:45 big festivals I I have zero idea.

24:47 I haven't I I don't know.

24:49 I mean, he's also a headache behind scenes when it comes to what he One,

24:53 he's not that good of a performer if you look at it.

24:55 getting into some things now.

24:57 Who I [laughter] think that the maintenance of him trying

24:59 to deal with these events is not going to go over well.

25:01 We've seen how late he's been to a lot of I think

25:03 a lot of people don't want to deal with stuff like that.

25:07 Well.

25:06 And that that goes back to your point about

25:08 taking more care of this thing you call your career.

25:14 Okay.

25:14 It's valid.

25:15 There you have it.

25:16 All right.

25:18 Clip that.

25:23 [laughter]

25:21 TAKE THAT, BANANA.

25:25 All right.

25:26 So, yeah, look.

25:26 Giant not, but [laughter] by the way, that sentiment, you know,

25:29 when I saw this post, I went into the comments.

25:32 That sentiment was being shared on social media.

25:34 Yeah.

25:34 People were posting clips of him performing.

25:37 Yeah.

25:37 Uh and, you know, not having positive things to say about it.

25:39 That's it.

25:40 And so, um That's just our observation of it.

25:43 Yeah.

25:43 That's all.

25:45 Yeah.

25:48 [laughter]

25:46 He said, "Clip that." I heard that low.

25:51 The low went crazy.

25:52 I don't know why.

25:53 Hey.

25:53 You know what?

25:54 I'm just trying to stay out of it.

25:55 Wait, bro.

25:55 Stay on your convictions, [laughter] bro.

25:57 I'm staying on my This is how I feel.

25:59 When I When I read that tweet, I was like,

26:02 "Again?" And you're wondering why This is exactly why.

26:05 And go through the comments and you can see.

26:07 Well, and also, I mean,

26:08 of people feel like [laughter] that.

26:10 Well, and maybe look.

26:13 You guys are making a lot of this tweet because you have

26:15 a human being here who you're not accustomed to hearing from like this.

26:19 No, we No, no, no.

26:19 We are very accustomed to hearing that.

26:21 accustomed [laughter] to hearing that.

26:22 Okay.

26:23 That's all I'm saying.

26:24 Yeah.

26:24 You well, now now there's three different instances, right?

26:27 Where we've had him do this and you guys are saying enough's enough.

26:31 But he's he's being I mean, he's being humble, man.

26:33 He's you

26:34 Is he?

26:36 I take it at face value.

26:37 Sorry, guys.

26:40 [laughter]

26:41 Humble?

26:41 He It says, "I'm truly It's truly humbling." That's the word he chose,

26:45 so go on what it says.

26:47 It's like So, you take things for face value, is what you're saying?

26:52 Sometimes.

26:52 Okay.

26:53 All right.

26:54 Sometimes.

26:55 Okay.

26:55 You know, I I I I believe that the internet

26:57 did Lil Wayne a disservice during Super Bowl.

27:00 I believe he was set up for that.

27:02 Clarify that one.

27:02 that at face Clarify that.

27:04 Yeah, what do you mean?

27:05 I mean I know what you mean, but clarify it.

27:06 Meaning he wasn't booked.

27:09 Mhm.

27:08 And then the internet started going, it should have been,

27:11 it should have been, it should have been, it should have been.

27:13 Yep.

27:13 Okay.

27:13 And then Oh, oh, okay.

27:14 I I see.

27:15 Then he felt compelled because people were saying it should have been,

27:18 should have been, that he needed to say something.

27:21 Mhm.

27:20 And then now we're using it against him when

27:23 he thought he was doing something for his fans.

27:25 But maybe to Eddie's point,

27:26 that would have been the perfect with the internet

27:28 hyping you up and singing your praises, you do nothing.

27:32 You could have also just done nothing.

27:33 I I agree that would have been a pass, dude, but you know, I you know,

27:40 I I don't think that's what he chose to do and then engage with his fans.

27:43 That's why you guys don't like it.

27:44 No, it's not we don't like it.

27:45 It's just like it's not clearly said you didn't like it.

27:47 I just

27:47 It's all right.

27:48 It's annoying.

27:50 It's annoying.

27:50 It's annoying.

27:51 You don't like it?

27:53 And then he disappointed a rapper who [laughter]

27:56 grew up on him and idolized him and Kendrick, yeah.

28:00 I don't know.

28:01 Wayne, just make some calls.

28:03 You're Wayne.

28:03 Some people will book you for shows.

28:05 He's Wayne.

28:06 Get out your own bubble.

28:06 No, I think he's getting shows.

28:07 He's just not getting invites to the places that That's not the issue.

28:10 He wants to get invited.

28:11 He just wants to get

28:12 This says specifically events like Coachella and the Grammys.

28:15 The cool thing.

28:16 Weezy F, baby, and the F is for phenomenal.

28:19 Yeah.

28:21 Yeah.

28:21 [laughter] Yeah.

28:24 Oh, boy.

28:25 Yeah.

28:25 That was [laughter] That was That was

28:28 Uh-huh.

28:29 Um Last headline for the day on Rap Life Review.

28:33 [laughter] Uh I don't know if this is um uh useful information today

28:36 cuz I don't think that they've come to a decision completely here.

28:40 But a jury finds Live Nation and Ticketmaster operated as a monopoly.

28:46 Ooh.

28:45 Uh and um in its dominance of live events and ticketing industry validating

28:50 complaints that the industry giant was stifling

28:53 competition and driving up fees for fans.

28:56 Now, we've heard a lot of artists,

28:57 a lot of people talk about ticket

28:59 prices being astronomical and wanting some resolution

29:03 and lawsuits and states have done things

29:05 with Ticketmaster and Ticketmaster had to pay different states,

29:10 different settlements.

29:11 The federal lawsuit was brought by 40 states and the Department

29:14 of Justice with the latter settling Live Nation a week into the trial.

29:18 The settlement left the concert company with a $300 million fine,

29:22 a cap of service fees of 15% of ticket prices,

29:25 and limits to exclusivity contracts with venues.

29:29 What it doesn't say so far is usually when

29:33 they say something's a monopoly, it gets broken up.

29:37 Mhm.

29:37 Right.

29:38 I don't think that action has actually been resolved

29:41 or will be resolved or I don't know what they're

29:44 Because that would have been on the Justice Department, right?

29:45 But since they settled, then that's kind of end of story in that situation.

29:49 know, and I think there's more still more to be learned here,

29:51 but I know on the internet people were really excited about

29:55 this thinking that their ticket prices might be less this summer.

29:59 Just barely.

30:02 Barely.

30:01 Somebody help us, man.

30:02 Help help Listen, as consumers, help We are getting gouged.

30:07 Whether it's gas, going to the movies, Ticketmaster,

30:11 their grocery store, there's no wins for us.

30:16 The Our government and these these these entities and these companies

30:20 are trying to bleed a rock at this point, man.

30:22 Everywhere we look like, what is this service fee?

30:24 What is this fee?

30:25 You buy a ticket like you go to a Lakers game playoffs like it just tell

30:28 you one price and then it it's a whole 'nother price by the time you're done.

30:32 Airline tickets like we just need a win for the consumer,

30:35 man, cuz it is tough out here.

30:37 It is hard, bro.

30:39 Well, so there's this website it's called vote.org.

30:44 And you should actively be looking at elections

30:47 in your area both locally, city, state,

30:50 and federal cuz there's a lot of elections where you as the consumer

30:56 can actively work to elect individuals that care about these issues.

31:01 I tried, bro.

31:02 It didn't work.

31:04 [laughter]

31:04 You voted?

31:05 The other half of the country, they have other ideas though.

31:07 Here locally though,

31:08 like for instance in New York City they voted in Zohran Mamdani.

31:13 Me, I.

31:14 Good job.

31:16 And

31:15 trying to shade me about this in my DMs, by the way.

31:17 No, I wasn't even going to bring all this up.

31:19 I don't [laughter] I wasn't going to bring all this up cuz

31:21 I don't want to I don't want to put you on blast.

31:24 I don't want to put you on blast.

31:25 You vote shamed her in her DMs?

31:26 [laughter] No, no, no.

31:27 I didn't vote shame her in her DMs.

31:28 When Zohran was running, she would come into work like,

31:31 "Yo, these Zohran people keep knocking on my door.

31:34 I don't EVEN KNOW IF THAT I DON'T KNOW THAT." AND I was like, "No, Nadeska.

31:37 Vote for him." vote for him.

31:39 But they were still harassing me.

31:41 Fine.

31:42 Okay.

31:42 And it worked.

31:44 Yeah?

31:43 Got [laughter] it.

31:44 So, Zohran actually did a thing for New York City in service fees

31:50 where he's holding companies accountable where they

31:53 can't charge all these different service fees.

31:57 Right.

31:56 Or where you have a membership to a gym that you can't like you're like, "Yo,

32:00 Can't cancel that.

32:01 Can I cancel this?" And the gym makes you That is illegal in New York City now.

32:06 Yep.

32:07 Wow.

32:06 Right?

32:06 So, I bring that up because if you live in the city or county

32:11 or state or whatever and these are things that are important to you,

32:14 you should go make sure you're registered to vote

32:17 and vote for I always usually vote against my financial interest.

32:22 I'll be very transparent.

32:24 Depending on what it is though.

32:25 No, I use I always vote against my financial interest on a

32:28 I mean, I do for the most part like if it's for schools,

32:29 this is for like, you know, bettering the you know, housing

32:32 I vote for working class, working people's party across the board.

32:38 Anybody that's talking about working families, working people, work work work.

32:45 That's where my vote is at.

32:46 Cuz it's going to better it throughout the

32:48 Well, no, because that's a majority of people.

32:50 Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

32:51 Yeah, yeah, yeah.

32:51 Okay.

32:51 There's people who are hard-working individuals trying to pay their mortgage

32:56 and keep their kids in a decent to good school.

33:00 And I understand, but you said you always vote against

33:03 your There's definitely some things you're voting for for your interest,

33:05 but some of the things you vote

33:06 meaning like there's a lot of people who you hear who have money

33:09 or a little bit of money who talk about tax breaks and these other things.

33:13 The reason I say I vote against my interest is because most of the people

33:15 who are for working-class things ain't working on tax breaks for my tax bracket.

33:21 They're working against my tax bracket cuz they need

33:23 my tax dollars to go to help working families.

33:27 For sure.

33:28 Right?

33:28 And most of the people who make who are the billionaire class,

33:30 which I'm not, or the, you know,

33:33 the hundred-millionaire class or whatever, which I'm not,

33:37 they're trying to figure out ways to pay less taxes.

33:45 [laughter] Or in the millionaire class, which [laughter]

34:03 That's some smooth talking I like that.

34:05 I was laying I laid that out there for them.

34:07 That wasn't even actually Since we here.

34:09 No, but but I do think vote.org people need to get to it.

34:12 You know what I'm saying?

34:12 And and and I do think they Look, the reason they make voting difficult,

34:18 the only class of people I ever see

34:21 talk about not voting is hip-hop and black folks.

34:26 I never see only one?

34:30 I'll tell you why.

34:31 My mom's one of those people, right?

34:33 And it's like we worked hard enough to become citizens here.

34:35 You would think she would take this right seriously,

34:37 but my mom's like deeply religious, right?

34:39 And her her thought is that the vote it's never going to count.

34:43 It's never going to make a difference.

34:45 So, she leaves everything to God and prays about it.

34:47 It drives me god.

34:50 It drives me nuts.

34:51 But this is what I mean.

34:55 [laughter] No.

34:55 But yeah.

34:55 I like I like I get it.

34:56 But she's not going to I think that there's those people and then there's people

35:00 think everything is so corrupt and so whatever [clears throat]

35:02 they just not even That's the same.

35:03 It's all of that.

35:04 Yeah.

35:04 That's a lot of people that are on my timeline.

35:05 Yeah, but yeah, yeah, same same way.

35:07 I'm just saying it's always people that look like us.

35:11 The rich people who don't look like us, they are voting Yeah.

35:16 a lot.

35:19 Yeah.

35:18 The religious people who don't look like us,

35:21 they are voting often, a lot, and organized.

35:28 Yeah.

35:27 It's always us sitting around How come no How How come we

35:30 don't always say it's only corrupt for like what we talking about?

35:32 I don't even know what we talking about.

35:33 Like why I go vote?

35:34 And it's a there's also I mean that's true too,

35:36 but there's always systemic issues too why people don't have access I get it.

35:39 I get it.

35:40 I get it.

35:41 But that's on purpose, too, because they know your vote matters.

35:46 It's cuz it's systemic issues though.

35:47 I'm not just going to say like, "Hey, they choose not to vote like

35:50 No, I'm not saying that, either.

35:51 I'm saying the people who spread

35:53 the narrative of not participating because of corruption

35:58 and try to get us not to vote are often people who look like us.

36:03 But the people who don't look like us, who ain't in hip hop,

36:06 Don't have that theory.

36:06 Don't have those theories.

36:07 They don't That's not moving around in the algorithm like that.

36:11 And and but by the way, it's always been like that and there is systemic issues

36:14 and there is institutionalized issues because they don't want us to vote.

36:21 So that they can would I'll tell this to people.

36:23 And they know we're going to have these same kind of theories this to people.

36:27 And they're okay with that.

36:27 Voting is not a Voting is not a marriage.

36:29 Voting is like a bus stop, bro.

36:31 Like get to the the bus that's closest to your house.

36:35 You know what I'm saying?

36:35 You You don't got to be And first of all,

36:37 these politicians aren't rock stars, they're not celebrities, they work for you.

36:41 Vote for the bus that will get you closest to your house.

36:44 further, Eddie.

36:44 If you told me you don't vote in federal elections,

36:47 all you vote is in city and county elections, I would applaud you.

36:52 It works.

36:53 Yeah.

36:53 I wouldn't be mad at that.

36:54 you voted for was your community board, I would applaud you.

36:58 You know what I'm saying?

36:59 Unless you're in a swing state.

37:00 If you're in Ohio or Pennsylvania, we need you to vote [laughter]

37:03 in our elections.

37:05 Now, real talk though, but on these ticket price things,

37:07 these are this is something that elected officials who deal with uh um you know,

37:15 regulations, this is what happens when

37:18 things go unregulated because these corporations

37:23 These corporations are going to make as much money as they can.

37:25 That's That's what they're going to do.

37:27 And it's

37:27 And for Live Nation to take a $300 million fine and just be okay with it,

37:31 that lets you know just how much they made off this entire deal.

37:34 They didn't fight $300 million.

37:36 That's like they didn't fight $300 million.

37:37 They're like, "All right.

37:38 And take it." And the fact that it says customers are

37:41 only charged $1.72 per ticket, come on now.

37:45 Bull.

37:44 Well, you know, look, we'll let's watch and see how this plays out,

37:47 but yeah, everything is very expensive right now.

37:50 And you know, there but I do applaud the artists who have been

37:54 very vocal and the and even corporations who have been very vocal about,

37:58 you know, Live Nation and their prices cuz not

38:00 everybody is cool with the way things are going.

38:04 Because when it comes down to it, when fans are spending this much money to go

38:08 to some of the biggest artists in the world's shows,

38:11 they're not going to have any money left to go to, you know,

38:13 emerging artists or smaller local shows

38:15 or smaller local venues and things like that.

38:18 So, you're going to have small businesses being hurt.

38:20 You're going to have, you know, a lot of things around your way that's falling

38:23 by the wayside because we ain't got no money left.

38:26 So there is there is a you know,

38:30 it reverberates to a lot of other industries when

38:34 people are paying a lot of money for specific things.

38:37 Um Makes sense.

38:38 There it is.
