Self introduction example at a job interview | Practise Speaking English
mmmEnglish
0:00 Are you ready to practise speaking English with me?
0:03 Today's speaking practice will focus on self-introduction at a job interview,
0:10 how to introduce yourself professionally when you attend an interview.
0:14 We're going to practise using the mmmEnglish Imitation Technique which is
0:19 one of the most effective ways that you can relax your accent,
0:23 fix your pronunciation problems so that you
0:27 speak English more clearly and confidently.
0:30 It's effective because it teaches you to hear
0:33 the sounds and the patterns of English and it trains you to produce those same
0:38 sounds and patterns yourself by repeating after me.
0:42 If you haven't done a lesson like this before, don't worry,
0:46 it's really simple and I'm going to explain each step for you as we go.
0:56 This is a speaking practice lesson to help
0:58 you with your self-introductions at a job interview.
1:02 We'll be role-playing a woman called Jessica who
1:05 is a mid-level marketing manager applying for a job.
1:10 Now of course, not all of us are marketing managers but the language,
1:15 the interactions and the important word choices are useful
1:18 for all of us as we're introducing ourselves at an interview.
1:23 Now if you want to dive deeper into the structures,
1:27 the expressions and the useful collocations
1:29 that are used throughout this dialogue today,
1:32 I definitely recommend you download the workbook I've made you.
1:36 In it, I've highlighted key verbs and importantly collocations that you
1:41 can use to speak with authority and expertise in your field.
1:46 The link to that workbook is down in the description,
1:49 I highly, highly recommend it.
1:51 Alright, let's get started.
1:53 Step one, listen and read.
1:57 So we're just going to get familiar with the dialogue and the context first.
2:01 Just listen.
2:03 Welcome Jessica, it's really great to meet you.
2:05 I'm Sarah.
2:07 Hi Sarah.
2:07 It's lovely to meet you.
2:09 Thanks for having me in today.
2:11 It's my pleasure, Jessica.
2:13 Before we dive into the interview questions, tell me a bit about yourself.
2:18 What got you interested in marketing?
2:21 And why did you apply for a position here at our company?
2:25 Well, I've been fascinated by marketing theory
2:28 ever since my university days but more recently,
2:32 I've become interested in emerging technologies
2:34 and trends especially in the AI space.
2:37 Your company's approach to innovation and cutting-edge solutions
2:41 aligns perfectly with my interests and my career goals.
2:45 I'm excited about the possibility of contributing
2:48 to such an innovative and incredible team.
2:51 That's great to hear Jessica.
2:54 Could you share a bit more about your background
2:56 and the experience you bring to the table?
3:00 Certainly.
3:00 Over the past three years I've had the privilege of working
3:04 with various clients in the marketing
3:07 industry from tech startups to established brands.
3:11 My role involved crafting data-driven marketing strategies which included
3:16 leveraging AI tools for improved customer targeting and personalisation.
3:21 I've also been responsible for managing successful
3:24 digital campaigns that drove significant return on investment.
3:28 I believe my experience in utilising AI and staying up
3:32 to date with industry trends could really add value to your team.
3:36 That's impressive, Jessica.
3:38 We're definitely looking for someone who can
3:40 keep us at the forefront of marketing technology.
3:44 Can you provide an example of a challenging project
3:47 that you've worked on and how you approached it?
3:52 Of course, thanks Sarah.
3:54 One project that comes to mind was when I was working with Axiom.
3:59 We had a client looking to revamp their customer engagement strategy
4:04 and they wanted to incorporate AI chatbots into their customer support system.
4:09 I took the lead in researching and implementing
4:13 a chatbot solution that not only reduced
4:16 response times but also improved customer satisfaction
4:20 scores by twenty-five per cent within three months.
4:23 It was a challenging yet rewarding experience
4:27 and it reinforced my passion for AI-driven marketing solutions.
4:31 Wow.
4:33 It sounds like you're not only knowledgeable
4:35 but also passionate about what you do.
4:39 Step two, listen and copy.
4:42 So now you'll hear me speak but there will be
4:46 a pause so that you can repeat out loud after me.
4:49 Try to copy me exactly as you hear
4:52 me and try to imitate my facial expressions too.
4:56 Repeat this step as many times as you like
4:59 until it starts to feel a little bit more natural.
5:03 You can even slow down the speed to practise
5:05 with me a little slower before returning to regular pace.
5:11 Welcome Jessica.
5:11 It's really great to meet you, I'm Sarah.
5:15 Hi, Sarah.

11:01 out a little strange but don't worry just try to copy the rhythm,

14:20 Now Emma's got a little bit of homework for you.
14:24 You've been practising with me as an example but if you get the workbook,
14:29 you can analyse the words and the expressions that I
14:32 used during my excellent self-introduction and you can write your own.
14:38 That means you can make the script relevant to you,
14:42 to your career and to your job opportunities.
14:45 If you share your responses down in the comments
14:47 below the video and you do it this week,
14:50 I'm sure Emma will find the time to jump down

14:55 Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next lesson.
