NEW Premiere v26 | All the Updates You Missed

0:01 on all the new updates inside of Premiere.

0:04 So, let's jump on in.

0:25 First off, drop in the pro from Premiere Pro.

0:28 I know this is such a silly little update, but we just call it Premiere now.

0:33 There's no pro.

0:35 And the reason why they did this is for consistency in marketing.

0:38 You know, there's no Illustrator Pro.

0:40 There's no Photoshop Pro.

0:43 And so now it's just Premiere.

0:44 And we kind of called it that anyway, right?

0:47 It's not changing anything.

0:49 It's not making the app less pro.

0:52 It's just easier to say now, oh,

0:54 I'm using Premiere for desktop or I'm using Premiere on mobile.

0:59 So, that's kind of why they did it.

1:00 So, it's kind of a silly update, but just wanted to let you know because

1:03 you probably have seen it just be called Premiere.

1:06 Now, next up are new transitions and transition handles in the timeline.

1:11 If you missed it, last fall Adobe announced that they acquired Film Impact.

1:16 So, all of the transitions that you had to buy

1:19 in a plugin before are now built into the app.

1:23 Let me show you.

1:24 If you go inside of your effects panel and go to video transitions,

1:28 for example, you'll see that there's new categories like grunge and distort.

1:33 And all of these transitions were part of film impact before.

1:37 Lights and blurs as well.

1:39 You'll see a bunch of them here.

1:41 There's also slides and smart tools, motion tween here.

1:46 I made a whole video about this like years ago and I

1:50 swear I manifested that all of these would be built into Premiere.

1:53 So, you're welcome.

1:55 It happened.

1:56 All right, so let's show you uh the new transition handles.

1:59 So, I have these two clips here inside my timeline.

2:01 And by the way, if you haven't seen Heated Rivalry yet,

2:03 you should definitely check it out.

2:04 That's why I chose these hockey clips here.

2:07 So, between these two clips,

2:08 let's say I wanted to apply a grunge distortion transition.

2:12 So, let's go over here and let's apply the grunge transition.

2:16 You'll see here that now the handles are a bit different.

2:20 So, when you hold and drag out, it actually shows you the duration.

2:24 So, you can see it's a little over 1 second.

2:27 And here you can see it's 20 frames.

2:30 So, that's how you can adjust the duration of the transition.

2:33 So, let's say we want it to be a little over 1 second.

2:36 And if we play this back, it looks pretty cool, right?

2:41 but we can match it better to the clip.

2:44 So, we can select this and go over here to effect controls.

2:48 And you can see underneath grunge,

2:51 there's a bunch of different things that we can do.

2:54 And one thing I want to do is update the color

2:57 to be a bluish color that we see here in the background.

3:01 So, we can go ahead and try to select one of these colors.

3:04 And we might need to make it a little bit more blue.

3:08 Like that.

3:09 I think that looks good.

3:11 And then we can adjust how much of the colorization happens.

3:14 Let's go ahead and let's add some more

3:16 colorization and a little bit more flash intensity.

3:21 So now when we play it back, the grunge effect matches the clips better.

3:27 Now if you prefer to preview what all these transitions look like,

3:31 what you can do is go up to window and you can go down to where is it?

3:36 Oh, here it is under extensions and film impact dashboard.

3:41 So, from here you can preview what the effects

3:44 and transitions look like before you apply them.

3:47 So, if you wanted to apply this 3D roll, you wouldn't drag and drop it.

3:51 What you would do is, let's say, let's delete this grunge and you would

3:54 select these two clips and then click apply.

3:57 And that'll apply it between these two clips like so.

4:02 And [clears throat] again, if you want to make it faster,

4:03 just pull it in pretty fast.

4:07 Next up is the AI powered object masking.

4:09 Now, I've talked about this before when it was in beta,

4:12 but it's now in the main build.

4:14 Allelujah.

4:15 It is here.

4:16 So, what we can do here to demonstrate this is

4:19 I have this clip here of this female runner.

4:21 And what I can do is go up here to this little

4:25 icon here and be sure to select the object mask tool.

4:30 And then I can simply hover over the object and it will automatically detect it.

4:35 So let's go ahead and select our subject here and it immediately selected it.

4:40 And now when we go to effect controls,

4:43 we can click on this icon track selected mask forward and backward.

4:49 And look at what it does.

4:52 This clip is about 25 seconds and it's

4:55 literally going forward and backward to track our subject.

5:01 So, it's going to take a little bit of time here cuz our clip is longer.

5:04 But you can imagine if it's just a 2C clip, this would already be done.

5:07 So, now that it's done, you can watch it back and see that the mask

5:11 has tracked the outline perfectly with the help of AI.

5:15 You can also change the color of the mask.

5:18 Depending on your shot, it might be easier to see the mask.

5:22 So, you can have a cyan overlay instead.

5:24 For example, to have it affect the transparency or opacity,

5:29 you can drag this down to opacity.

5:32 And now it removes the background, which is fine,

5:34 but in this case, we actually want to keep the background.

5:37 So, we need to duplicate the layer.

5:38 So, press option, drag and drop, release,

5:42 and then we can remove the mask from the bottom layer.

5:45 If I turn off the visibility of our first layer here,

5:49 you can see we have a cutout that we

5:52 can apply effects to independent from the background.

5:55 And so, of course, you can apply effects to the entire clip itself,

6:00 but I thought it would be cool to create

6:01 some cut points and add some glitch transitions.

6:05 So, it's kind of like, oh, is this a glitch in the matrix or something?

6:08 That's kind of a cool effect you can do.

6:10 So, let's go ahead and just create a couple cut points here.

6:14 And I'm going to go down to this glitch transition,

6:17 which is part of the grunge and distort.

6:20 And just drag this here on top of this cut point.

6:24 And look at that glitch in the matrix.

6:28 And you can go ahead and copy that transition.

6:31 Command C orr C.

6:33 And paste it at another cut point.

6:35 You can make this longer if you want.

6:37 And so it's glitching just her cutout independent from the background.

6:42 So this is why the object mask tool is great, right?

6:45 You can do effects.

6:46 You can add text behind your subject.

6:49 You used to kind of have to do that stuff in After Effects, right?

6:52 And this just saves you so much more time.

6:55 Now, before I talk about the new shape mask,

8:09 Me tap dancing brought to life.

8:12 And then you can extend and you can modify.

8:15 This is great if you need to bring old archival photos to life.

8:18 And then we can generate some background music for a video.

8:21 Comedic suspicious background music.

8:26 I don't want lyrics.

8:27 Theme comedy mood.

8:29 Funny and weird.

8:30 [music] generate.

8:42 So, it generated three options to choose from.

8:45 You can [music] generate similar or download.

8:47 This is great for developing the perfect tone

8:49 of a track that you need for your video project.

9:08 And now, let's get into some more Premiere updates.

9:11 We all know that masking in Premiere used to be a pain,

9:15 but they have redesigned the shape mask

9:18 to make it easier to scale, add feathering.

9:21 I'm so glad that they did this.

9:23 Let me show you how easy it is to make masking now.

9:26 So, let's go ahead and go to this timeline here.

9:28 And I have this shot of this woman walking to go play tennis.

9:32 Now, her face is a little bit dark for my liking.

9:35 If I press H to the hand tool, you can see there's a bit of shadow.

9:39 I just want to brighten that up a little bit.

9:41 And so, to brighten up her face, we can use a shape mask.

9:44 Now if you click on object mask tool,

9:47 you're given options to use the ellipse rectangle

9:50 or to freeraw using the pen mask tool.

9:53 In this case, let's use the ellipse.

9:56 So I'm going to click and drag.

9:59 And now we have our mask.

10:01 And look at how easy it is to maintain the proportions.

10:05 Before it was a huge pain.

10:06 What you can do is you can click on the corner here and press shift.

10:10 And look at that.

10:11 Now we can resize.

10:13 It's so easy.

10:14 Isn't that amazing?

10:15 And then what we can do if you want to add

10:17 feathering is you can click on this little dot here and feather.

10:22 So easily.

10:23 Look at that.

10:23 Look at that feathering.

10:24 It's so easy.

10:26 Isn't that awesome?

10:27 And then once again, we can go ahead and make this bigger if we want.

10:33 And then you can click here to reposition it.

10:35 Another thing you can do is rotate if you need to.

10:38 Okay.

10:39 So, this is great and all, but now we can track forward and backwards.

10:45 And look at that.

10:45 The shape mask stays on the face.

10:49 Isn't it so good?

10:50 So, we have the mask here that's been tracked.

10:53 But now, let's apply a lummetry color effect to the clip.

10:57 Let's go ahead and drag and drop it.

10:59 And when we do that, automatically

11:02 the unassigned mask gets applied to lummetry color.

11:05 Meaning any corrections that we made are just applied to the mask.

11:09 If you ever want to invert it, you can always click invert.

11:12 The color changes will only be changed to everything but our face.

11:15 But we don't want that in this case.

11:17 With the adjustments, let's just select lummetric color so that way

11:20 we can see the corrections that we're making.

11:22 And then over here, I can slightly increase the exposure.

11:26 And it is just affecting her face.

11:29 Obviously, that's way too much.

11:31 I just want like a subtle amount.

11:33 And then I can increase the shadows.

11:36 And then we can add a little bit of contrast back in.

11:39 So now if I turn this off, look at how dark it was before.

11:43 And now it's on.

11:44 And so now if we play this back, this is the before and the after.

11:52 So this is a great way to go in and just make some

11:55 fine-tune adjustments to particular parts of your video's

11:58 images using the new masking tools.

12:01 All right.

12:01 Now, the next update is sending directly to Premiere from Firefly Boards.

12:07 So, if you haven't heard of Firefly boards,

12:09 if you go to the main Firefly website over here,

12:12 you can go to boards and it's basically a ideiation platform

12:17 where you can ideulate and essentially come up with story boards.

12:21 You can combine photos, you can generate images,

12:24 you can generate videos from those images.

12:27 And you can see how I uh generated these in the other

12:30 Photoshop tutorial that I made where I integrate Firefly boards with Photoshop.

12:35 So for example, with this image, I generated some shadows on top of her.

12:40 This was the original image.

12:42 And so from here, I can also go ahead and say I

12:45 want to convert this image to a video if I want to.

12:48 Or this is the new update.

12:50 I can click on this more ellipsus and I can open in Premiere desktop.

12:56 So, this is downloading the file and it's

12:59 ready to open inside of Premiere Desktop.

13:02 So, now I can go to the project

13:04 panel here and there's a folder called Firefly Downloads.

13:08 And now I have this image inside of Premiere.

13:10 This is great because if you're working on a project where

13:13 you need to generate something and send it directly to Premiere,

13:16 it's more seamless, right?

13:17 It saves you time from having to download,

13:19 move it into a different folder, and then import it into Premiere.

13:22 It's also great if you're building storyboards out.

13:24 Let's say you're, you know, editing a project and there's some missing shots.

13:28 You can generate those shots with Firefly boards.

13:31 Send them to Premiere as placeholders.

13:34 So, that's the update.

13:35 All right.

13:35 Premiere mobile to desktop.

13:37 This was actually released in version 25.6.

13:40 So, there's now Premiere for mobile.

13:43 Remember when I talked about the name change?

13:45 It's no longer Premiere Pro mobile or just Premiere Pro desktop.

13:49 It's Premiere for Desktop or Premiere for Mobile.

13:53 and it's a free app.

13:54 You can start your edits on your phone and you

13:57 can send it straight to Premiere desktop to polish it off.

14:00 Also, another update in Premiere mobile is there's now transitions built

14:05 in based on the same transitions that are in Premiere desktop.

14:09 So, if you haven't tried it out yet, I've made a full video about it,

14:16 Another update [clears throat] that actually was released in V2.6 Six

14:20 is a way to easily censor or bleep audio using textbased editing.

14:26 So, inside the transcript text panel, now you can now censor certain words

14:30 and it will create a bleep for you automatically.
