GAME 4 REACTION 🗣️ Would the Knicks rather play the Pistons or Cavs in the ECF⁉️ | Inside the NBA
ESPN
0:00 Uh 144 to 114 is your final as the Knicks complete a sweep.
0:05 Wow.
0:06 Uh they they swept the Baltimore Bullets in 1969.
0:09 They swept the Atlanta Hawks in 1999, 30 years later.
0:14 And now they [music] sweep the Philadelphia 7.
0:16 That is in best of seven.
0:18 Okay.
0:18 How about he got swept by them?
0:20 Oh yeah.
0:21 He jumped.
0:22 That's the only time I ever got swept.
0:23 300.
0:24 Um after the game, uh Lisa Salters with Jaylen Brunson.
0:30 Jaylen, closeout games are supposed to be the hardest.
0:33 Just how have you guys been able to make it look so easy?
0:38 I think we're we're looking at it like just a game one quarter at a time,
0:44 one possession at a time.
0:46 Uh not really focusing on the circumstances of the game,
0:48 just uh just going out there and playing
0:50 for each other and um just trying to stay focused.
0:53 The three-point shooting today was just off the charts.
0:56 25 made threes that tied an NBA playoff record.
0:59 Just what was the key to the three ball tonight?
1:02 Uh I think it started with our defense and then um
1:04 us being able to get in transition and uh create good looks.
1:08 Um everything started with defensive side of the ball and um yeah,
1:13 made things made things a lot easier for us.
1:15 Yeah, Miles McBride kind of set the tone
1:17 in the first quarter with his three-point shooting.
1:19 What impressed you about the way Deuce
1:21 and Landry Sham both have stepped in for OG?
1:24 I mean, that's what they do.
1:25 Um I mean, and it just happened to be they're both locked in on the same day.
1:29 I mean, they they do that and um the amount
1:32 of open looks they got created a a great rhythm,
1:34 created better more confidence for them,
1:36 and then um the kept going through hoop for them.
1:38 It's now seven consecutive wins for you guys.
1:40 Just what has been unlocked, fallen into place,
1:44 call it whatever, but since going down in that Atlanta series,
1:48 I mean, we're focused now.
1:50 We're staying poised, staying composed.
1:52 Um, just focus on the little things.
1:54 Uh, one day at a time, one game at a time.
1:57 Uh, just not looking ahead at all.
1:58 Staying in the moment.
1:59 Eastern Conference Finals are next.
2:01 But when you guys are playing like this, does it really matter who you face?
2:06 One game at a time.
2:07 One game at a time.
2:08 We'll we'll cross the bas.
2:10 Congrats on the win.
2:11 We'll see you in the finals.
2:15 Seven.
2:16 Yeah, seven straight wins.
2:17 Knicks have never done that in their playoff history.
2:20 Uh 25 threes made today, 25 out of 44.
2:25 Um and that ties the NBA record.
2:29 Um look, Shaq, two weekends ago and New York Knick fans are like,
2:36 uhoh, the sky might be falling.
2:37 They're down two games to one facing really
2:39 a must win in Atlanta to avoid falling down 3-1.
2:42 They haven't lost a game since.
2:44 Yeah.
2:44 One thing about New Yorkers, they will never lose confidence.
2:47 you have to really beat a New Yorker and keep beating them.
2:49 Even though they they were down those games versus Hawks,
2:52 they knew that they wasn't really particularly playing that well.
2:56 So, they they just said themselves,
2:57 they're going to play better, going to play defense.
3:00 Cat's been uh uh great.
3:02 All the other guys have been great.
3:03 Anobi has been great.
3:05 But, you know, my favorite player today was uh McBride.
3:09 You know, when you're on a team and you play
3:10 with a specialist and a specialist has a special game,
3:13 it gets everybody pumped up.
3:14 This guy is a bonafide shooter.
3:16 So, you know, to start the game, you know, four for four,
3:19 five for five, six for six, that just really got the Knicks going.
3:22 You know, that's a guy who went one for six
3:24 and one for five from three in the previous game,
3:27 starting for OG, and tonight just lights it up.
3:30 Well, it gets real again uh in the next round for the Knicks.
3:35 Boy, you were already looking ahead.
3:37 Oh, they they're they're ahead.
3:38 Yeah.
3:38 So they are so you know Cleveland
3:42 uh and both Pistons have caused problems at times for the Knicks this year.
3:49 So, um, looking ahead, if you look at if it's the Pistons,
3:54 the fact of K Cunningham being such a big guard, um,
3:59 that would give the Knicks problems and then the two back possibly the most
4:05 explosive back court in the NBA coming in there as well with Harden or Mitchell.
4:11 So, this round was a a a resting round,
4:16 but the next round will look very similar to the last round
4:18 with the Hawks where they have people who they can guard them.
4:22 They have they match up in certain positions.
4:24 This it won't be a cakewalk
4:25 from this hard on, but congratulations to the Knicks.
4:28 Yeah.
4:29 Um, so yeah, Chuck, I know you you love these.
4:34 Detroit swept New York in the regular season
4:37 and the Knicks took two out of three from the Cavs.
4:40 Jaylen Duran didn't play in any of those games for Detroit.
4:42 Yeah, that's why I think those stats are all useless.
4:44 Uh I think that the Knicks would probably prefer to play the Pistons.
4:48 It's a better matchup for them cuz in what ways?
4:52 Uh because the Pistons struggling to score.
4:54 They always struggle to score.
4:56 Now Cleveland, to me,
4:58 Cleveland has the most talent in the Eastern Conference if they play.
5:02 Uh if James and Donovan play well,
5:05 you got the two big guys like they if if they play,
5:09 you know, you never know which Cavaliers team you're going to get.
5:12 Uh but you know, if you play Detroit, you got Cade Tobias has played great.
5:17 Duran has really struggled in the playoffs.
5:19 So I think it's a better matchup if they play the Pistons even though you
5:22 go by that regular season stuff because
5:24 the Knicks the Knicks are going to score.
5:27 Uh but what's interesting about New Yorkers, why they so annoying?
5:30 What [snorts] are you waiting?
5:31 I'm sitting here.
5:32 So, we were in Atlanta.
5:33 Well, yeah.
5:34 Well, yeah.
5:34 No.
5:35 Oh, no.
5:35 You annoying as a person.
5:36 I'm talking about New York [laughter] Knicks fans.
5:38 So, Ernie, we were in Atlanta and Shaq Shaq just said we were in Atlanta.
5:43 I was we do the show here.
5:45 So, 10 days ago when the Knicks were down two to one.
5:51 We're in the hotel.
5:52 Same hotel as the Knicks.
5:54 What do you think?
5:55 Should we fire Mike Brown and go get Giannis?
5:59 This one.
5:59 They were down 2-1.
6:00 This is 10 days ago, Ernie.
6:02 Yeah.
6:02 Two week two weekends ago.
6:04 Yeah.
6:04 They're like, "Chuck, what do you think?" I said,
6:05 "Yo, man, this we if we just stay down 2-1.
6:08 Relax." And they were like, "No, we got to get rid of Mike Brown.
6:12 He's not taking us further.
6:13 We got to go get Giannis.
6:14 Blah blah blah blah blah." And you like a week later,
6:18 they're like, "We're going to the finals." That's true.
6:20 Then if that's annoying, I've heard that.
6:22 Everybody, every one of my relatives in New
6:24 York called me and said that exact same thing.
6:26 They were like, "Fire Mike Ryder and bring Yiantis." So maybe maybe we are.
6:30 But I I will say this.
6:32 When we we're not traveling for the conference finals.
6:37 Um
6:37 we will for the NBA finals.
6:40 Yes.
6:39 New York is different.
6:41 When we were there for the conference finals last year, it is it is bananas.
6:45 It's it's amazing.
6:48 It would be I I would love to see them I don't ever care who wins.
6:52 That's just not what we do.
6:53 But I ain't gonna lie.
6:54 I would love to see them in the finals and we traveling for the finals.
6:57 It would be
6:59 well
6:58 it would be crazy.
6:59 Let let me take it from a person who played in the finals
7:02 against New York and being a New Yorker it's very annoying and very different.
7:06 Uh so um the most incredible part I went I had
7:12 to go to I left my toiletry bag with toothpaste and everything.
7:16 So I go to CVS
7:17 with toothpaste toothpaste.
7:19 Okay.
7:20 And so I go into CVS during the NBA finals and I
7:25 walk in and the guy goes uh in on hour three
7:29 we need to clean up clean up for Houston Rockets and the whole
7:32 place start booing the whole CVS are booing as I'm bringing
7:36 up toothpaste and then it is a different place to play
7:40 in New York City and why you hate my stories Shaq always [laughter]
7:43 JUST HATING ON MY I ALWAYS BIG UP YOUR stories and oh
7:47 yeah and Kobe Bryant gave me this And Horus Grant did that.
7:50 Come on, Shaq.
7:52 Throw him a bone.
7:53 Funny story.
7:54 Come on, man.
7:55 Lead up on aisle three, Houston Rockets.
7:57 Well, in fairness, Shaq, I'm with you on this one.
7:59 Yeah, man.
8:00 You should always grab toothpaste first.
8:02 Listen, toothpaste.
8:04 I left my toiletry bag.
8:06 I have a whole bag.
8:07 You Come on.
8:08 This is This is fascinating.
8:11 Um, so Hayden McGrade over there.
8:13 Look, you're a you're a big Killer Instinct guy.
8:16 Do you have that?
8:18 Now look, round one, chance to close out.
8:20 The Hawks beat them by what?
8:22 51.
8:23 You win today by 30 in [music] a closeout situation.
8:27 What have the Knicks shown you?
8:29 They've shown me that they are ready.
8:31 And uh I have to disagree with both guys.
8:34 I think they will breeze through whoever they Oh my good stuff.
8:40 Whoever the next opponent is if they
8:42 continue to play like this, they're playing well.
8:43 They're very connected.
8:44 They're on all cylinders.
8:46 They don't make excuses when they have a bad game.
8:48 They always step up and
8:50 Jack, did you see him last week?
8:52 Yeah, that was last week.
8:53 That was last week.
8:54 Two weeks ago.
8:55 Yeah, but when you have an advantage against one team,
8:58 the advantage doesn't change.
9:00 So, you can do it every night and like the Knicks did.
9:03 They won't have the same advantages against Cleveland and or Detroit.
9:06 And Kenny's 100% right.
9:07 Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
9:09 Let me respond.
9:10 Donovan and James Harden are not defensive specialists.
9:13 They can score.
9:14 Are they offensive specialists?
9:17 No.
9:17 Yes, they are.
9:18 No, one of them is.
9:19 No, no, they both are.
9:20 James Hart James Hart had one killer game yesterday and it wasn't even killer.
9:24 He just had three timely baskets.
9:25 Don't Don't start that.
9:27 But he he three timely baskets, different Wait, time out.
9:31 There's different timely baskets where they swing the ball.
9:33 Swing the ball and he shoots it.
9:35 His timely was get out the way 10 seconds and let me get a basket.
9:41 One game.
9:41 That's different.
9:42 We got a long way to go before we worry about that.
9:44 But I will say this to pick it back on Kenneth's point.
9:48 They've had a cakewalk.
9:50 The two teams they have played.
9:52 Obviously, Philly is got a the injuries and who's going to play or not,
9:57 they're not very good.
9:58 The Hawks got a bright future, but they're not ready for prime time yet.
10:02 I love what they're doing here in Atlanta,
10:04 but they're not ready for prime time yet.
10:07 This has actually been a great matchup.
10:10 what you're gonna see going forward, whoever it is, Cleveland,
10:12 Detroit, and the Knicks, they have been the three best teams.
10:16 You know, we we all thought Boston,
10:18 I never thought Boston, I never picked to the finals.
10:21 We thought that Boston when they got Tat Tatum back,
10:24 they were just going to breeze.
10:25 I said, "No, no, I still have I still I'm still with the Cavaliers,
10:29 but the three best teams are still playing right now." So,
10:33 whoever they play is going to be a very difficult series.
10:37 And let me tell you something, that Cleveland Detroit series,
10:39 it's a seven game series in my opinion.
10:41 And that's a good thing for the Knicks, right?
10:43 I mean, you want that thing to go as long as I don't actually agree with that.
10:47 Yeah,
10:48 cuz like
10:48 the Cleveland Detroit is not a seven game series.
10:50 Yeah.
10:50 So, well, okay, we don't know that yet.
10:53 But Ernie, what's interesting, that's a long time, the earliest.
10:58 And what's the downside for for uh New York?
11:02 There's there's nothing you can do.
11:03 There's nothing they can do that like they'll probably
11:05 take tomorrow off obviously they'll start practicing Tuesday but there's
11:10 nothing you can do in practice that's going to be
11:13 like get them ready to play on a conference fin
11:18 or any playoff game like it's going to be like
11:20 I say first of all they going to be ready
11:22 I don't believe in the rest a rush thing [snorts]
11:24 but it's still going to be that's a long time yeah
11:28 to to to go especially the way they shooting it.
11:30 Yeah, I I would say I I would say I I would say I do believe in it.
11:35 Clear Yeah, clear something up for me.
11:36 I mean, if you say Russ doesn't matter, then so what?
11:38 How many days they have off?
11:40 Well, I I'm just talking about keeping that that that energy level.
11:45 The way they are playing right now, I want to play every day, right?
11:48 But now they just going to go to practice
11:51 and let the Cavs and Pistons beat up on each other for
11:54 Well, no.
11:55 The only thing that you you you could
11:56 possibly lose is the intensity of the moment.
12:00 No question.
12:01 So like you're when you're playing every day and you're practicing,
12:05 there's a focus, a mental focus to say it's tomorrow.
12:08 It's like studying for a test.
12:10 You know what the night before the test?
12:14 Yeah.
12:13 We love you, Kenny.
12:14 Oh, you get you're great.
12:15 Now they got to walk around New York City for the next week.
12:18 Hey man, y'all going to the finals.
12:20 The edge the edge the edge slips.
12:22 The edge slips.
12:23 The edge is supposed to slip because you don't know who you're playing.
12:26 So my advice to them is enjoy.
12:29 When you figure out who you play, get prepared to them.
12:31 And you had to do the same thing against us.
12:33 We did with the Orlando Magic.
12:35 How many days y'all had off when y'all played us?
12:37 14 days.
12:38 They had 13 days off.
12:40 We were like, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
12:43 You can you cannot." For me,
12:45 I just don't think your mental It's like studying the night before a test.
12:49 Like there's a different energy when you studying the night
12:52 before the test than when the test is a week away.
12:55 and and you start losing it.
12:57 The girl who was doing my homework for me in college, I said,
13:00 "I don't want you trying to cram this." Her name is Her name is Paige.
13:04 Get to work on this.
13:04 I said, "Get to work on this whole semester.
13:06 Don't try to cram the last minute cuz I got to be eligible for the tournament."
13:10 Oh my.
13:11 Thank you, Paige.
13:12 Only the third time the Sixers have been swept in a best of seven.
13:17 Um, third time the Knicks have swept a best of seven.
13:20 Uh, there was a best of five, however.
13:23 Um, and the last time the Knicks swept the Sixers, it was [music]
13:26 they brought the 89 playoffs hit the game.
13:30 I never been swept.
13:32 Chuckster at the buzzer.
13:33 Oh my gosh.
13:34 Good shot though.
13:36 I thought you never been swept.
13:38 That's the last time I've ever been swept.
13:40 And it was a best of five, but I cannot.
13:44 Wait, they got to bring the No, they show the
13:46 COME ON.
13:47 HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY.
13:49 Y'all show that.
13:50 No, we're not going to break until we steal
13:52 the No better not be no damn groom out there.
13:55 You got Wait, you got broom came out.
13:59 [laughter]
14:00 Action Jack Sydney look.
14:03 I hate you Mark Jackson.
14:05 I hate you Mark Jackson and Patrick crying.
14:08 He broke the room out on me.
14:09 No, he wasn't.
14:10 He was crying.
14:11 Go back.
14:12 He wasn't crying.
14:12 The first round of the playoff, fool.
14:14 Go back, Ernie.
14:15 He was crying.
14:16 It was the first round of the playoff.
14:18 Buck Jackson, Patrick.
14:19 I hate both of y'all.
14:21 You going to cry, baby.
14:23 You know, I said it and I'm going to say it again.
14:26 I know we lost.
14:27 Um, you know, and I know that's not the right mentality to have,
14:31 but you know, for me, um, this was a success.
14:34 Uh, I came into this year not knowing where I was going to be,
14:39 you know, how long I was going to play,
14:41 if I was even going to play based on how the knee was the last,
14:46 you know, the last few years.
14:47 And you know, I came in um just you know, you know, hoping for the best.
14:52 And I feel like we're in a position where
14:55 we figured out the knee uh hasn't been an issue.
14:59 And you know, and you know,
15:00 if it wasn't for the oblique or like some of the other stuff that I had,
15:04 uh you know, it could have been different as far as you know,
15:07 how many games I, you know, would have played.
15:09 Um but yeah, you know, we came into this season thinking that, you know,
15:15 that there was not much left um you know,
15:18 based on the last two years and uh now I'm sitting here um you know,
15:24 not even worrying about my knee.
15:26 Um you know, and uh the uh season ends for Philly and Joel Embiid 144 to 114.
15:37 And [music] uh it's a team that has trouble 88 88% of their [music]
15:43 payroll in in Embiid, Paul George, VJ, and Maxi.
15:48 Yeah, they in trouble going forward.
15:50 Um they going to have the same team next [music] year,
15:53 and we don't know if they they I mean,
15:56 it's unfortunate, but they're going to have the exact same team next year.
16:00 And uh you know, if if you don't win it and you have the same team,
16:03 you're just not good enough.
16:04 indeed able to play 38 games in the regular season,
16:07 six of their 11 [music] or seven of their 11 postseason games.
16:12 And uh it ends in a sweep against the New York Knicks.
16:15 It's that time.
16:17 It's time for presented by No one.
16:24 Come on, Ernie.
16:25 It's unsigned by sponsorship [music] since 1989.
16:29 Thank you very much, Dr.
16:31 O'Neal.
16:32 Don't mess up the money maker.
16:34 It is uh it's time for uh time for some fishing.
16:38 Who we got here?
16:39 Be the Philadelphia 76.
16:41 Hey.
16:42 Hey, let me tell you something.
16:43 That that is Hey, Adrian.
16:44 That is the Skookul.
16:46 Hey, Adrian.
16:47 Hey, the great Sylvester Salone, Tulsa King.
16:50 [music] Love it.
16:53 You on that boat.
16:54 We got the cast [music] from Always Sunny in Philadelphia on there.
16:59 Oh, there go Bradley, too.
17:00 Bradley Cooper.
17:01 Bradley Cooper.
17:02 Yes.
17:02 And uh that's the kind of boat you need for the skooker too, Ernie.
17:06 And what is that in the
17:07 Alex taking poetic license by including one of his friends,
17:11 Chris Dub, the hardcore Philadelphia brother.
17:14 Hey, hey, we got a guy.
17:16 He was a hardcore fan.
17:17 Slice [music] is a hardcore fan.
17:19 That's inside the NBA here.
17:21 I'm sorry.
17:23 Coming up, Stanley Cup playoff.
17:25 Yes, two big games tonight.
17:28 Then Vegas and Anaheim.
17:34 [music]
