Melania uses Mother’s Day to expose Trump
Keith Edwards
0:00 Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there
0:02 and to all the sons and daughters who have moms.
0:04 And if you're not close to your mom, that's okay, too.
0:06 I hope you're having a great day.
0:08 I just want to say Melania Trump came out with a Mother's Day
0:12 message that to me seemed very pointed
0:14 towards the president of the United States.
0:16 And I'm not the only one who thought so.
0:18 The Daily Beast did, too.
0:19 Now, what's interesting is that she wrote this op-ed.
0:23 She wrote this op-ed.
0:24 Let us put that in the largest air quotes imaginable.
0:28 She wrote this op-ed.
0:30 This woman can barely speak English.
0:32 Ain't no way she's writing an op-ed for the Washington Post.
0:36 The Washington Post, by the way,
0:37 which is owned by Jeff Bezos and funded the Melania movie.
0:41 Regardless, she's out with a Mother's Day message that is very strange.
0:46 I'm going to walk you through it,
0:47 and then I'm going to show you what the Daily Beast thinks is going on here.
0:54 First, here she is in the Washington Post saying,
0:57 "Mothers are America's strength.
1:00 Women could lead boldly at work while
1:03 restoring the honor of motherhood." All right.
1:06 It says here, "The household is our nation's smallest institution,
1:11 yet is the foundation of all others, including democracy itself.
1:15 The values cultivated in homes often shape the moral voice of the generation.
1:20 Looking ahead, we must consider how to strengthen this vital role." Now,
1:24 why does that matter to me?
1:26 Well, I think there's a couple things going on here
1:29 is interesting that Melania Trump is talking about how
1:33 the household is the nation's smallest instit in institution when
1:37 she literally like her and Trump do not live together.
1:41 They don't live together.
1:42 They barely live together when they're raising
1:45 the son that they have together, Baron.
1:47 And so to me, this seems like a bit of a jab
1:52 at Donald Trump because they do not share a household at all.
1:58 And if it's the foundation of democracy itself, what is she really saying?
2:02 Being a modern mother demands the discipline
2:04 and restraint to not disregard what came before us.
2:08 In this spirit, the healthy evolution of the American family can best be
2:12 achieved by preserving the elements of the past that have proved their worth.
2:17 In doing so, America can restore the honor of motherhood after years
2:21 in which feminism often plays career
2:23 above family with consequences to our nation.
2:26 American can restore the honor of motherhood.
2:28 Is I mean, has motherhood been dishonored by feminism?
2:34 Do you think that's true?
2:35 I don't think that's true.
2:37 I think if anything,
2:38 equality is something I really think is is like a northstar.
2:42 is very hard to feel to know if you ever fully achieved it,
2:46 but we are certainly closer to it than we've been in the past.
2:51 So, I just don't understand this line of thinking.
2:56 I truly think the only person dishonoring motherhood or those who seek to try
3:02 to take away the ability for moms to live lives just as dads do.
3:10 I I don't understand this idea that moms have a certain
3:14 kind of role in the household and fathers do not.
3:17 That's what she's saying here.
3:18 Anyways, yes, women can thrive in both motherhood and business,
3:22 but let's be honest, extended families and strong support systems are often
3:26 essential to providing a solid base for success.
3:30 That's why I admire the strength and dedication of single
3:33 mothers in America who often handle these responsibilities alone.
3:38 American women today are finding unique ways to balance career,
3:42 ambition, and family.
3:43 The busy accountant who makes time during tax
3:46 season to read with her kids before bedtime.
3:49 Okay.
3:50 The nurse who I'm just going she's just going to make up situations.
3:53 The nurse who works a grueling shift work starting at 6:00 a.m.
3:57 but treasures being present with her children when they return from school.
4:00 We all know these incredible women.
4:03 Okay.
4:04 Again, and here's another jab at the president to be fully president.
4:07 present.
4:08 To be fully present for a child,
4:10 mothers must occasionally take time to restore their own energy.
4:14 Such care is not selfish,
4:16 but an important part of caring for others through self-care,
4:20 your devotion to your children, and the rest of your family is more effective.
4:24 This approach will enrich enrich every aspect of your life,
4:27 professional and personal.
4:30 And this one is a bit of a laugh.
4:31 I constantly challenge myself as first lady to think beyond the traditional
4:35 responsibilities of the east wing that has resulted in many new
4:39 opportunities including leading for reunifications
4:42 of Ukrainian and Russian children
4:44 and their families addressing the UN
4:45 security council and achieving peace through education.
4:47 The White House launching fostering the future together a global effort
4:50 to help children through their safe and innovative use of technology.
4:54 But family always comes first.
4:55 Family always comes first.
4:57 I don't see how that I mean this is some gobble gobblelygy guck, isn't it?
5:02 Let's champion a new American model that restores
5:05 the honor of motherhood by encouraging all women
5:09 to lead boldly at work while also making
5:11 the family the cornerstone of our national future.
5:15 I mean, I I truly don't think Melania Trump slash slash alleged Epstein Epstein
5:23 lady should be telling us how to have families and how to raise kids.
5:30 That's just me.
5:31 Here's what the Daily Beast had to say.
5:33 Whoever advised Melania to write this, I would advise
5:36 you for the first lady of the United States.
5:40 Let let's let's not forget that she's not just she's not just a model.
5:46 She's not just a catalog model.
5:48 She's she's the first lady.
5:50 She represents the United States.
5:53 And to not have someone I mean there
5:56 are so many authors you could call there are
5:59 so many ghost writers and speech writers you
6:01 could call to write something really moving and rousing.
6:05 It could be a hymn to her own mother
6:08 and yet they've chosen to go the the the lazy route.
6:13 I mean, let's question the Washington Post's responsibility here.
6:17 I mean, obviously they said, "Okay, great.
6:19 You know, the first lady is going to write
6:21 something about about motherhood." But when they're handed this thing,
6:25 why wouldn't they say, "No, ob obviously we can't we can't publish this." Um,
6:31 or are they saying, "Well,
6:33 let's publish this because it kind of hangs herself." I I don't know,
6:37 but there's some weird lack of responsibility on their part.
6:42 Well, it's it's a or it could be.
6:45 Let's remember [laughter] Melania the movie is uh
6:51 a um uh an Amazon Jeff Bezos production
6:57 and Melania the Mother's Day article um appears
7:01 in the Washington Post which is owned by Jeff Bezos.
7:06 So you suggesting Jeff Bezos rated?
7:09 No, I I'm I'm I'm suggesting that this is all part
7:12 of a greater a greater Melania marketing
7:16 um um influence pedalling piece of grift.
7:22 But I wonder if they had thought of having Melania attend the Met B.
7:27 I wonder if she was invited.
7:28 I wonder if she decided she didn't want to go.
7:31 Um she could have taken Baron.
7:34 It was interesting to me that the entire Trump family stayed away despite
7:38 the fact that Jeff Bezos had turned up to support Donald at the inauguration.
7:43 Well, I I I'm I'm sure first thing that that in in the reality of this is
7:48 that Jeff Bezos and and his wife had
7:51 very little discretion over over the Met ball.
7:54 Um that that's that that was going to remain.
7:57 I mean that's their position was wholly
8:01 wholly honorary there and um and obviously
8:05 the Met Bowl is run by by Anna Winter and Conde Nast and would have known
8:13 right but Anna Winter put um Melania Trump and Donald
8:17 Trump on the cover of Vogue when when they got married.
8:21 I mean, I know that she since said Melania Trump will never appear on the cover.
8:25 Yeah, but they have but yes,
8:26 but they have not not seen that that that was another age,
8:29 another another couple basically.
8:32 Um, and so they would have known and the cond
8:35 people would would have would have known that that would
8:38 have been um uh to involve the Trumps would have
8:43 been a statement that they certainly didn't want to make.
8:47 Yeah.
8:47 Yeah.
8:48 Well, it's it's I mean I'm not I'm not encouraging people
8:51 to go and read it because it just it doesn't mean anything.
8:54 It's just generic weird gobbledegook.
8:56 But interesting that they put it out there.
9:00 Yeah.
9:00 And and I think the um you know the the the larger point
9:05 here is what is Melania doing that this that this does become a political
9:14 something we have to see within the within this political context.
9:17 We don't know what it means.
9:18 And it could be and it could be dangerous for Donald Trump.
9:23 she is if she is in in some kind of of secret or not so secret
9:30 revolt against him which I think she might
9:32 be and if she is building this this independent
9:39 brand persona um business from from him
9:44 that also becomes a potential liability and as we've
9:48 we've discussed before within the White House They
9:52 now look at her as a as a liability.
9:56 I mean, in the times that she has come come out,
9:59 that has not been good for them.
10:01 The Epstein thing, drawing attention
10:03 to that, her her just peculiar attitude about everything,
10:08 her absence, her strategic absences.
10:12 This is not good for them and it's not necessarily controllable for them.
10:17 Interesting.
10:17 Right now, I also got to say too,
10:19 we also have seen Melania Trump try to distance herself from the president,
10:24 most famously when she came out with that very bizarre Epstein statement.
10:29 I never been friends with Epstein.
10:33 Donald and I were invited to the same parties as Epstein from time to time.
10:40 So, I think this is just another way for her to try
10:42 to separate herself from Trump and everything he believes and has done.
10:48 I don't think it's going to work,
10:50 but I think she's realizing that she's going to be
10:52 a Trump a lot longer than Donald Trump is, if you know what I mean.
10:57 So, she's trying to do what she can.
10:58 We won't let her.
10:59 We won't let her.
11:00 Well, anyways, happy Mother's Day.
11:02 I hope you have a great day and I'll see you soon.
11:05 Bye.
