0:11 This is a camera system that has a solar panel,

0:16 so you theoretically don't have to hook this up to your power at all.

0:20 Right out of the top of the box,

0:22 we have said solar panel, and it's nice and compact.

0:25 This will feed the onboard battery that's built into the camera unit itself.

0:30 On the back of the solar panel, you can see it's got this USBC connector.

0:34 So, it's nothing crazy proprietary or anything like that.

0:37 You could feed this thing power through just a standard

0:40 USBC power brick or even like a portable battery bank.

0:43 We've also got a USBC extension cable

0:47 with what looks to be a nice weatherproof housing.

0:51 Ooh, this is quite long.

0:54 Six feet.

0:55 Yeah, 12 feet.

0:56 This will be so that you can mount the solar panel

0:58 a little bit aways from where you have the actual camera installation.

1:01 And as you can see here,

1:03 the housing has these rubber seals so it fits nice and snug

1:10 together and you're not going to get any water in there.

1:18 They've also included anchors and then screws to go

1:21 in for your mounts and a zip tie, a single zip tie.

1:25 This one is an A to C cable and it's super short.

1:29 Before you start using the camera,

1:31 they suggest that you charge it ahead of time for 6 hours.

1:34 And this is what this guy is for.

1:43 to help mounting go a little bit smoother, and a quick start guide.

1:46 Next, we have a mount for what looks to be the solar panel.

1:50 Yeah, that guy will go in something like that there.

1:55 Nice and simple.

1:56 And the camera itself, when I say camera, I should said two cameras.

2:01 This is actually two 8 megapixel 4K cameras.

2:04 And one of them is a fixed 169° fieldof view camera.

2:10 The other one can rotate around 360 degrees

2:13 and follow traffic of either people or animals,

2:17 things that it can recognize with its onboard AI system.

2:20 Looks like we have two little antennas on the side here

2:23 as well that you can adjust for signal if you're having some issues.

2:28 Just going to peel these guys off, I believe.

2:35 Yeah, there we go.

2:36 So when you're throwing your mount up,

2:38 you screw this directly onto the piece that you're going to mount to.

2:42 Then slide back together.

2:44 Clicks in place.

2:45 It's just that easy.

2:46 While the top lens is a fixed wide-angle lens,

2:50 the bottom one has telephoto and can go just under 11x zoom.

2:54 Looks like we have some LEDs on the front here,

2:57 both for IR and for some white light.

2:59 So you've got some built-in spotlights.

3:01 On the back, we have a couple of weatherproof covers here.

3:04 One of them is for power reset and a micro SD slot where you can

3:09 record all of your video locally instead

3:12 of having to send it anywhere on the cloud.

3:14 And you don't need some sort of video storage

3:17 device on the same network that the camera is.

3:19 The other one is USBC for your power.

3:22 This is where your solar panel is going to plug into.

3:25 Or if you have some other power source, you could plug that into there as well.

3:28 There is a built-in 10,000 MIA battery which is supposed

3:33 to keep the device alive for up to 90 days.

3:36 The solar panel should be able to charge it

3:39 for a full day in 90 minutes of sunlight, too.

3:42 Which means between the two,

3:44 you really shouldn't have to power this thing other than hook up the solar panel

3:48 and have the battery that's built in kind of take up the rest of the slack.

3:52 On the back, we have an opening for what looks to be the speaker.

3:56 The device has two-way audio,

3:58 so you can hear what's going on through the video feed itself,

4:00 but you can also talk back.

4:02 So, if you need to like yell at some kids to get off your lawn or whatever,

4:06 despite having the opening back here, it does have an IP65 rating,

4:09 so it's good to mount out in the elements.

4:11 We've got a nice spot on the shed just over

4:13 there that we're going to install it and take a look.

4:16 We're going to mount the solar panel first.

4:18 It says that you want the panel to be southacing

4:21 in the northern hemisphere or north facing in the southern hemisphere.

4:25 We're gonna throw in the mount for the solar panel real quick here.

4:45 It also means that you got lots to wrap up.

4:48 So, now we'll plug this guy in.

5:06 TPLink is typically known for their networking hardware such as switches,

5:10 routers, Wi-Fi access points,

5:12 but they've been branching out into smart

5:14 cameras like the one that we've put up,

5:16 robot vacuums, and other home automation.

5:18 To try and tie that all together, they've got the Tapo app,

5:21 which you can use to control all of their Tapo devices.

5:24 Inside the app here, we're going to try and add devices,

5:28 outdoor cameras, looking for your device.

5:30 Is it going to pick it up from this far away?

5:34 Nice.

5:35 Where have you placed this Tapo device?

5:37 My only option is custom, so sure.

5:43 The closest thing that we have to a shed is the dog house.

5:59 that you can upload to, but it's not necessary.

6:05 Auto update is enabled to keep your device up to date.

6:09 One of the most common ways for attackers

6:13 to get into devices is because of out-of-date firmware.

6:16 So, it's nice to see that they prompt you for that auto update right aways.

6:20 So, what they're doing right now is they're showing

6:22 an example of what their smart tracking can do.

6:25 It's got onboard AI, so it can see when there is some sort of animal

6:30 or a human being that's going to be crossing through its path.

6:33 It picks it up with the fixed lens,

6:35 and then it uses the rotating head lens to go and track that target.

6:40 Inside the app, I can see that the battery

6:42 is full because I pre-charged this just in case.

6:44 Holy smokes, it's already picked up.

7:43 In the app, I have both a view of the fixed lens and the zoom lens.

7:48 With the zoom lens, I can pinch and zoom into a subject.

8:15 Oh, it tried it tried to track you right behind the bush.

8:19 The camera is actually set up to capture snapshots on a configurable

8:23 time period anywhere between 1 and 60 seconds and then it

8:26 uses its onboard AI to analyze what's going on in the frame

8:30 and decide whether or not it's a good time to start recording.

8:34 It does have a bunch of battery stats that you can look at.

8:37 The solar charging data is in beta right now.

8:39 So, we turned that on, but it's probably going

8:41 to be a little while before we get anything on that.

8:43 You can see that we started at 100% though, and right now we're sitting at 97%.

8:50 I don't expect that it's going to be charging

8:52 the battery all the way up all the time,

8:55 so I wouldn't be too concerned about that.

8:57 The price for the whole package is $1.99 US,

9:00 which considering you get two cameras and a solar panel, it's not a bad deal.

9:05 The one camera being able to move around independently is a really nice

9:08 feature and not having to worry about plugging it into any existing power.
