Southern Hospitality's Bradley Carter Confirms He's DONE With Emmy Sharrett After Season 4 Reunion

Entertainment Tonight

0:00 Season 4 of Southern Hospitality, maybe the toughest yet for you.

0:05 Yeah.

0:05 I can only imagine knowing you filmed this last summer, sitting on it,

0:08 waiting for the world to see it, now letting the world weigh in on it.

0:12 How is it sitting with you?

0:14 It's sat for sure.

0:15 It's very uh it's it's heavy but almost like cathartic in a sense.

0:21 Like it's it's good to be able to talk about

0:24 some of the the tougher hot button issues that are

0:26 going on, but also it's like reopening a scab

0:29 just like anytime that we we watch a show back.

0:32 Yeah.

0:32 This I think is the cuts a little deeper.

0:35 Yeah, though.

0:36 Absolutely.

0:36 Why did you say that I made you feel unsafe?

0:41 Brad, I mean you were angry.

0:42 You were angry after the that text I got from you.

0:45 I've never seen a text.

0:46 I've never seen you talk to anyone.

0:48 Because I was pissed.

0:49 Wait, Brad, you're you're you're scary.

0:51 You're scary when you're when you're pissed.

0:53 I mean, wait, before you say something,

0:54 you can't you can't say you were scared cuz

0:57 like that can come off as like a microaggression.

1:00 I didn't realize that the way I express myself

1:03 could hurt Brad in the way that it did.

1:05 And I take full responsibility for that.

1:07 What was hard for me this season was

1:10 everyone gets to talk about their issues with me.

1:12 I don't get to say my issues with them.

1:14 I spoke with Emmy a few weeks ago.

1:16 She's adamant that she gets it.

1:18 Do you believe she gets it at this point?

1:20 As much as I would like to say yes, I don't think she does.

1:22 [music] We filmed our reunion probably about a week ago now,

1:25 and we obviously talked about this a lot.

1:27 [music] And you know, she was willing to apologize,

1:30 but I don't think that the apology she's given is genuine.

1:34 If it was genuine and that's how you felt,

1:36 I think you could have shot a text before the reunion.

1:37 You could have text me saying like, "Hey,

1:39 I'm watching all this back in real time

1:40 and I'm learning and I'm realizing that, you know,

1:42 this could be a mistake and I'm so sorry for for the pain that I've caused."

1:45 And I think that I'm sorry at the reunion

1:46 it would have been a little bit more wellreceived.

1:48 [music] So for me it's it feels like it's just you're

1:51 trying to cover your bases so you can still be around.

1:55 Watching this back and seeing her struggle

1:58 to define what a microaggression is despite everyone teaching her.

2:03 Yeah.

2:03 That she seems to offer an I'm sorry then walk it back then retell this story.

2:10 She's now doubled, tripled down on the story

2:13 with new details that you've said are invented details.

2:18 New words like stalker.

2:23 Yeah.

2:21 Brad has the audacity to stalk my hotel room and sending threatening messages.

2:28 You I'm a I'm 115 lb woman.

2:30 Like when a man threatens you is you are scared.

2:32 Brad, obviously you were intoxicated.

2:34 You were angry [music] and then you tried to scare

2:37 me and be like sleep with one eye open.

2:39 Yeah,

2:40 you made me feel unsafe because you intimidated me.

2:43 You threatened me.

2:44 You stalked me.

2:45 How are you reading the situation now compared

2:47 to how you were reading it last summer?

2:49 I think over the summer I was living in it and I knew that it was crazy.

2:53 But I didn't see those scenes where she's talking

2:55 to her sister where she's backpedaling off everything she's saying

2:58 and she's adding in these new details like telling Lucia

3:00 that I told her to sleep with one eye open.

3:02 I would never even say that let alone issue

3:04 out a threat but also sleep with one eye open.

3:06 What is this 1950s?

3:07 Like that's crazy.

3:07 And for you to continually add new details

3:09 to the story in order to get someone to try

3:11 and be on your side or feel some type

3:13 of sympathy for you is sick and dark and unnecessary.

3:17 And I just feel like all of this could have been avoided.

3:19 I was willing to drop this from the beginning at the Folly House.

3:22 I'm like, "Okay, whatever." Like I'm willing to move

3:24 forward just so we can stop talking about it.

3:26 But the thing is like I feel like she kept talking about it because she

3:29 didn't get the outcome that she wanted

3:31 instead of giving an apology that was needed.

3:34 Yeah.

3:34 She is hung up on the eavesdropping on her hotel room.

3:38 I have some notes.

3:40 We definitely played them.

3:41 I fed Maddie that information to make anything Brad say not reliable.

3:45 They believed everything that I said out there about Will's mental health.

3:49 A new detail she added when she talked to me is that there's she claims there's

3:52 a recording of what you all heard

3:54 and that you were playing it throughout the season, but it hasn't aired.

3:57 Does that recording exist?

3:58 Full story.

3:59 I know that Emmy is willing to twist and manipulate

4:02 a story as we've seen this season for her own good.

4:04 And so initially I was like, well maybe I should try and record just so I

4:09 can [music] have indisputable evidence that this is exactly what

4:12 you're saying because as you can see the story changes

4:15 and I wanted [music] to have some sort of proof.

4:17 And unfortunately you can't hear anything.

4:20 The recording is null and void because you're

4:22 not able to understand anything that you're saying.

4:24 But I'm happy there was other people there

4:26 to be able to hear this and corroborate my story.

4:29 And I'm happy that it was able to to tr like the truth be told.

4:33 And it's funny because there were four other people there,

4:36 but I'm still the one that's getting all of the brunt of all of this.

4:40 And I think that's kind of telling in itself.

4:42 Do you regret sending the text messages in that moment?

4:45 I don't know.

4:45 That's a good question.

4:46 I think part of me says yes.

4:48 You know, I was I was really upset and I was hurt.

4:50 I regret calling her outside of her name,

4:52 but I don't regret saying that you're dead to me,

4:55 too, [music] because those words left your mouth first.

4:57 I was walking away from that reunion thing and there was a path forward,

5:00 but clearly that wasn't a path.

5:01 It was just a holding place for for how you really felt.

5:04 So this recording would not exonerate her.

5:06 It wouldn't be like, well, she actually said this instead of that.

5:09 Yeah.

5:09 I honestly I don't know why she keeps trying to bring

5:12 up the recording because it wouldn't be good for her.

5:14 [laughter] But like, yeah, I I I tried and it it didn't work.

5:18 So it's there's no exoneration from the recording.

5:20 [music] It it's just it's the truth.

5:22 And also I I didn't play it throughout filming,

5:24 so [music] I don't know really where that came from.

5:27 Okay.

5:27 Your girlfriend Julia really stood up for you and she did what I

5:31 think we want a lot of white people to do in instances like this.

5:34 You will nevering understand because you are a white privileged ass

5:38 Julie, what the does that WAY THAT HE BECAUSE YOU DON'T understand

5:42 you were not present for that.

5:44 But when you got to watch it back, what went through your head?

5:46 That I have a person that's willing to ride for me

5:48 to the end of the earth and not this this blind riding like,

5:53 you know, just in comparison.

5:55 She wouldn't leave me out to dry, right?

5:56 Like Will didn't show up to the reunion.

5:58 Emmy had to answer for all of his mistakes.

6:01 And I know that I have a partner that's willing to stand up for me,

6:04 right or wrong or indifferent.

6:06 And and that is so powerful for me.

6:08 Like I was looking at her, of course, proud,

6:10 but also like almost brought to tears because wow,

6:13 like I have a girlfriend that is willing to stand up for me,

6:16 love me, and and champion me no matter what the situation is.

6:20 And that means the world and you're making him feel just as a his

6:28 I think the way that she spoke to Emmy and was trying to explain

6:31 to her for the fifth time that what you're saying is wrong and it's

6:34 wrong because of X Y and Z is a perfect example of how you

6:38 can stand up for your partner when they're not able to stand up for themselves.

6:41 cuz like I wish I could have said all of those things to Emmy

6:43 and I would have loved to, but the last time I showed emotion,

6:46 I shot her a text and it was misconcred completely and now

6:49 I I'm a threat and and scary and making her feel unsafe.

6:53 So, I think her being able to deliver that was

6:56 the perfect person to be able to say like,

6:58 "Hey, this is this is what's going on." And in that scene,

7:02 you can kind of see Amy making snarky comments as she's walking away and having

7:06 a lot of animosity towards Julia and she

7:09 would go from crying to then pissed off.

7:11 Like I think you can kind of see the manipulation that that comes

7:13 [music] with dealing with Emmy and how difficult that situation can be.

7:18 Yeah.

7:18 I really could not believe that she did

7:20 not walk away from that conversation going, "Oh, oh yeah."

7:24 Like it should have hit you and sat with you in that moment for sure.

7:27 But she continued down the path of but I have these feelings too.

7:32 Yeah.

7:32 And I think that with that situation, if I even removing race from it,

7:38 if I had a friend that was really upset and I hurt their feelings,

7:41 I would just apologize and move on.

7:44 Yeah.

7:43 Like it just let it go.

7:45 And the fact that she's been unable to let it go, I think is pretty telling.

7:48 Yeah.

7:49 Yeah.

7:49 There's a famous quote from Heather Duo on the Real Housewives of Orange County.

7:52 If everyone's telling you you're dead, it's time to lie down.

7:56 Yeah.

7:56 And I think about that often on shows like this.

7:59 You filmed Reunion.

8:00 Emmy was hopeful that would be a place

8:02 for you to have a productive conversation and move forward.

8:05 How are you feeling about Emmy after filming Reunion?

8:08 The reunion was very [music] therapeutic for a lot of different reasons,

8:13 but I don't know if it was productive.

8:16 It feels like it wasn't a period at the end of the sentence.

8:18 It was still like dot dot dot.

8:20 And I don't know where we're going to go from here,

8:24 but I do know that Amy and I's friendship is no longer existent,

8:28 and [music] I don't have any plans of of pursuing it any further.

8:31 Okay.

8:32 Mhm.

8:32 She said she doesn't think she can exist

8:34 in a place where you two are just kind of coexisting.

8:36 It's either friendship or nothing for her.

8:38 Do you feel the same way?

8:40 Yeah, definitely nothing.

8:41 I don't value any friends that are able to apologize

8:44 and then walk it back over and over again.

8:46 maybe a little bit of grace maybe one time,

8:48 but after it's gone to the extent that it has,

8:50 I don't [music] think that there is a place

8:52 for us to have a friendship, which is tough.

8:54 And and the reason that a lot of this hurts is because,

8:56 you know, I've had dinner in her family's house.

8:58 We've been friends for years.

8:59 We've been best friends for years.

9:01 And even in Folly Beach, whether she was being honest or not,

9:04 she said I was supposed to be a groomsman.

9:05 And I do believe that at one point.

9:08 Yeah.

9:08 And the fact that we are here right now,

9:09 that's that's not someone that I want in my corner.

9:12 And that [music] hurts.

9:13 Do you think she is a racist?

9:15 No, I don't think Emmy is racist.

9:17 I think that there's very different forms of racism.

9:21 I [music] think there's covert racism

9:24 and then there's a little bit more extroverted.

9:26 I don't think that she's an overt racist person,

9:28 but I think that there are some tendencies that she needs

9:31 to check and that she needs to understand that, you know,

9:34 those words that you say hold a lot of weight, [music] especially in the south.

9:39 Yes.

9:39 Some unconscious bias unlearning to do.

9:42 Yes.

9:42 And the thing is we have chat GPT, we have a computer in our pockets.

9:46 There's no reason why if you want to learn

9:48 and even if she approached me and was like, "Hey,

9:50 I don't really understand this, but I I want

9:52 to and I'm sorry." I think there's a place

9:55 to recover from that, but [music] that has yet

9:57 to happen and and I don't see that happening going forward.

10:01 What was the ultimate takeaway for you from reunion?

10:04 I love everyone on that stage and I I love our friend group.

10:07 That's what makes our show special is because we are

10:09 genuinely truly friends and a lot of those friendships I value.

10:13 Me and Maddie have had our differences throughout the past years.

10:16 But I still value that friendship and I still feel like there's something there.

10:19 But when I looked at Emmy,

10:20 I don't feel like that was a friendship I valued anymore.

10:22 [music] And walking off that stage, I just thought that it would be best for me

10:26 to just move forward and and moving forward without

10:29 her is going to be able to keep me

10:31 safe and help me feel comfortable around our friends again.

10:33 Do you think she has a place in this friend group moving forward?

10:36 A couple of our our friends in the friend group,

10:38 you know, still want to to have a relationship with her.

10:41 One of them being Lake, which is a little weird for me.

10:43 Um, it was weird for her mom, too.

10:45 Her mom.

10:46 You asking a white girl for advice about how to deal with black people?

10:51 No.

10:50 Do you not know?

10:51 Pull your together.

10:53 I love Lake's mom and our families go way back actually.

10:55 And I have a lot of love for Lake and I think there's room

10:58 for Lake to grow and mature and like she's had a tough season this year,

11:01 but I think that, you know, there's still growth for her.

11:03 But her relationship with Emmy definitely gives me a reason to side eye her.

11:07 But as far as Emy's place in the friend group,

11:09 I just don't think that there's really room for her because I'd say 60%

11:13 of the people don't necessarily want

11:15 to associate with her with it being Michael's,

11:18 Molly, Mia, TJ, [music] Justin, and even Joe and Maddie.

11:21 I know they're in a weird place with Amy

11:23 as well because they they were weren't vocal throughout the season.

11:26 And you know, I addressed that towards them at the reunion,

11:28 but they definitely have have been willing

11:30 to to hear me out and understand where I'm coming from and don't agree

11:33 with the way that Amy's been [music] handling things.

11:35 That is good to hear cuz that has been a frustration point for me

11:38 watching the season is these two are supposed to be this guy's buddy.

11:41 For sure.

11:42 And they're not saying anything.

11:43 For sure.

11:43 Yeah.

11:44 Joe was silent throughout the season which was

11:46 really hard because going in to season 1,

11:49 Joe was probably my best friend on the show.

11:53 And since his relationship with Maddie,

11:55 our relationship has definitely taken a turn.

11:57 Hopefully, we'll repair that a little bit.

11:59 But I definitely think that I wish they would have spoken up more.

12:02 I wish they would have said something more.

12:04 I just wish that they would have stood up and be like, "Hey, listen.

12:06 Brad is right here.

12:07 Like, you have to listen to him and hear him out

12:10 and move forward and apologize and take accountability instead of making

12:14 constant excuses." cuz I think it would have landed more coming

12:17 from them instead of having to wait until my girlfriend finally

12:21 got fed up and the situation kept getting worse and worse.

12:25 Yeah.

12:25 How did you feel about Emmy kind of said Julia

12:28 moved here cuz she wants to be just like me.

12:31 I influenced her to move here and I encouraged her to date Brad.

12:36 I don't think that Julia and Amy have

12:38 a lot in common other than um their skin color.

12:41 I think that Julia has her own

12:43 mind and our [music] relationship is completely different.

12:45 She's able to stand on her own two feet and she's

12:48 in nursing school and she's really smart and and and dynamic

12:51 and has a brain for herself and I don't think

12:53 she looks at me as a uh a 5-year plan.

12:56 She looks at me as a partner and we have

12:59 our own individual traits and things that we like to do.

13:02 So, I think that uh Jimmy Julia moving to Charleston to try

13:06 and be like Emmy is is uh laughable to say the least.

13:10 Is Julia the one?

13:11 She is the one.

13:12 Yeah.

13:12 She's unlike any girl I've ever met before.

13:14 And the way that she loves me and the way that we love

13:17 on each other and lean on each other through it all is special.

13:20 We're not ready for a ring yet, but Okay.

13:23 She's uh she's definitely the one.

13:25 You know, rings can take time.

13:27 Take time.

13:27 Yeah.

13:28 You need to rush into it.

13:29 That's right.

13:29 If it's if it's right, it's right.

13:30 It's right.

13:31 We have a little more season to watch before we get to see that reunion.

13:34 In what's to come, is there anything that you're excited to relive?

13:37 because it's been a heavy season.

13:39 I'm sure week to week you've been like, "Oh god, now it's this, now it's that."

13:42 Definitely staying off the internet over the past few weeks.

13:44 I am looking forward to our Dominican Republic trip.

13:47 That was so much fun.

13:47 I had an incredible time.

13:49 There's a few surprises in there.

13:50 Maybe another conversation with Emmy.

13:52 We'll see.

13:53 I think this is where the boom boom boom from the trailer.

13:55 That's correct.

13:55 [laughter] Yes.

13:56 Yeah.

13:56 No, the the DR is a is a really cool trip and we

14:00 had so much fun and the end was a little rough landing,

14:04 but the rest of the season I think is

14:06 so good and there's a lot to look forward to.

14:09 I'm I'm excited to have it have the audience see it

14:11 and hopefully a season 5 is right around the corner.

14:14 Summer right around the corner for a season five.

14:16 We would love to have a season 5 this summer.

14:18 I want to just have fun.

14:20 Yeah, I want to have a good time and and hopefully

14:22 the there's drama but there it's all low like low stakes.

14:25 low stakes drama.

14:26 Low stakes drama.

14:27 I don't have to speak for the entire black community.

14:30 I think that it would be amazing to just go have fun,

14:33 let loose, and let's get back to having fun in Charleston.

14:36 Like, summer should be fun.

14:37 Charleston is so much fun,

14:39 [music] and I hope you guys get to see that in season 5.
