0:19 This is such a fun thing with the internet that we can do.
0:23 So, today you are going to learn how to speak fluent English in 2026.
0:31 was your New Year's resolution this year to become a fluent English speaker.
0:35 Well, I want to help you and today you'll learn how to do that.
0:38 But before we get started,
0:40 I'm going to say hello to the wonderful friends that we have live here today.

0:55 Wonderful.
0:57 Um I have a question for you and that is related to what I just said.
1:02 Tell me in the comments, where are you from?
1:05 Let me know what country you're from and I want to see
1:07 if we can have every major continent here in the chat.
1:17 [laughter] Can we have North America, South America,
1:19 Europe, Asia, Africa, East Asia, Middle East?
1:23 Do we have people from all over who are here in the chat?
1:27 Let me know where you're from.
1:29 Hello.
1:30 I see we have Japan.
1:34 Wonderful.

2:09 Japan.
2:10 Thanks so much.
2:11 Oh, we've got Ecuador, too.
2:14 Thanks so much.
2:14 Australia.
2:15 Wow, it is probably very late at night for you.
2:20 Thank you so much for joining me.
2:24 [laughter and gasps]
2:24 Uh I appreciate you taking the time, no matter what your time zone is,
2:27 to join us here and I think I think we've done it.
2:31 I think we have people from all over the world.
2:36 Success.
2:37 Incredible.
2:41 [laughter] Romania.
2:41 Hello, hello.
2:42 Oh, I saw up here as well.
2:45 We have Italy.
2:47 Hello.
2:48 Tunisia.
2:49 Hello.
2:51 Thank you so much.
2:52 I have a a couple questions for you today.
2:55 My second question, I want to know,
3:00 what is the hardest part about speaking English?
3:05 You've probably been learning English, well, at least for a few minutes.
3:09 [laughter] I imagine for a few years and something was not as you expected.
3:17 Maybe at the beginning you thought it would be no problem or maybe
3:21 you didn't even think about it because you were just a child.
3:24 You were learning English and still you are here
3:28 in 2026 trying to become a fluent English speaker.
3:33 Something has not been working.
3:35 So, tell me, what is the hardest part for you about learning English?
3:42 I know a lot of my students have told
3:44 me in the past that the difficulty in learning English,
3:49 especially speaking English, is having an opportunity to speak.
3:55 Maybe you don't live in an English-speaking
3:58 country surrounded by English speakers and also
4:02 a difficulty in speaking in English is simply having the confidence to speak.
4:09 But those things go hand in hand and today I'm
4:13 going to help you learn how you can find the confidence
4:16 so that you can find people to speak with and you
4:20 can speak with them regularly because if you feel like,
4:25 I can't do it, I'm too scared, I don't want to do it,
4:28 you're never going to take it to the next step,
4:30 which is actually connecting with other people and speaking together.
4:35 So, I want to help you with that.
4:37 Um and I'm curious uh to see what you have to say.
4:41 All right, we have the same idea here.
4:43 Low opportunity to speak.
4:47 [sighs and gasps] Yeah, that can be really tricky,
4:49 especially if you don't have a bunch of English-speaking friends.
4:53 Uh Sherwin says, "Understanding native speakers." Okay, so English is too fast.
4:58 It's difficult to understand.
5:02 Speaking and spelling some words for in English.
5:05 Got it.
5:06 Yes.
5:08 Pronunciation.
5:09 Yes.
5:10 And do you know what?
5:11 We're going to talk about all of these things today.
5:14 So, you have, as we say, hit the nail on the head.
5:19 [laughter] [gasps]
5:21 Um it's difficult for me to choose words that sound natural to native speakers.
5:25 Ah, okay.
5:26 I think this is a really common problem.
5:28 You are not alone.
5:30 A lot of English learners, pretty much everyone, right?
5:33 You started learning English in the classroom and when you first are a beginner,
5:39 beginner, beginner and you're learning, "Hello.
5:42 How are you?" You're learning just the foundation, right?
5:47 And it's okay to learn from a textbook in this type of old-fashioned way.
5:54 But the moment that you know a little bit more,
5:58 you need to be immersed in real-life English.
6:02 Just like here, I'm just speaking to you
6:04 as a native English speaker in a normal way.
6:08 And if you have not been immersed in real-life English
6:13 right away from the very beginning of your English journey,
6:17 you're going to have this problem.
6:18 You're not going to know which words sound natural,
6:21 which words are more textbook-y, and which words you actually need to use
6:27 in your daily life because we all have different personalities, right?
6:31 But we want to be able to express ourselves and good news is,
6:37 there are many different ways you can express yourself.
6:39 The bad news is, you have to find those words.
6:42 But don't worry.
6:43 We're going to talk about that today as well.
6:45 So, I would like to know,
6:48 how would your life change if you could speak English clearly and confidently?
6:56 If you had the words that you needed when you were about to speak?
7:00 If you had those speaking opportunities?
7:03 If you could use the pronunciation that you can't use now?
7:07 If you could speak more clearly and pronunciation was not a problem?
7:12 If you could practice, like you mentioned here,
7:14 spelling and you could practice uh being able to speak with confidence?
7:20 How would your life change?
7:21 Tell me about the wonderful things.
7:24 Dream about a world [sighs]
7:28 where you just open your mouth and you say,
7:30 "All right, today I can express myself clearly and confidently.
7:34 I've got this." What would that look like for you?
7:38 How would your life change?
7:42 Let me know.
7:44 Maybe I can visit the US.
7:47 That would be so cool.
7:48 And how much easier would it be for you to travel in the US
7:53 if you could speak smoothly and understand people with no stress, no hesitation.
7:59 That would be great.
8:01 Uh Sarah says, "I can speed up my professional career." Yes.
8:06 And the truth of the matter is, English is one of the most used languages,
8:13 if not the most used international language for business,
8:18 for educating yourself to improve within your field.
8:23 If you're a doctor, an engineer, a graphic designer, a construction worker,
8:30 most of this information is going to be in English.
8:34 it can absolutely help to open door of the world.
8:40 Yep, that says it all, right?
8:42 When you have a more fluent understanding of English,
8:47 you can speak confidently, clearly, you can understand fast English.
8:52 Uh we have a lovely expression, which is the world is my oyster.
8:58 I would love to know where this expression came from.
9:00 I do not know.
9:02 But it means the world is opening up like an oyster.
9:06 All of a sudden, you can have professional uh opportunities,
9:11 you can have travel opportunities, you can have connections around the world.
9:16 It's endless, right?
9:18 Uh I can connect all over the world smoothly.
9:22 Yes.
9:22 For people who like to travel, this is essential.
9:26 You do not need to travel to the US to use English.
9:29 If you have traveled to any other
9:31 country where you don't speak the native language,
9:34 you know English is important.
9:38 [laughter] If you are Japanese and you travel to Italy,
9:42 if you do not know Italian, are you going to speak to people in Japanese?
9:47 No, you're going to try to speak to them in English.
9:51 That's just the way of the world right now.
9:53 So, here the world is your oyster.
9:55 If you can speak in English, you can also visit Italy, not just the US.
10:01 [laughter] You can go to other places.
10:01 [laughter] You can go to other places.
10:01 Of course, you should learn a little Italian, right, before you go?
10:01 Of course, you should learn a little Italian, right, before you go?
10:07 [laughter] Um so, I would like to invite you to level up your English skills,

10:33 this chance to be able to have more professional development,

14:38 You You might give a little presentation, but most of the conversation is going
14:38 You You might give a little presentation, but most of the conversation is going
14:43 to be just a real-life conversation amongst normal people.

14:48 So, this is something that you need to practice.
14:48 So, this is something that you need to practice.
14:51 You need to make sure that you have
14:51 You need to make sure that you have
14:53 the skills to be able to have those real-life conversations.

14:57 And Ildiko and Yuko have said that exactly.

15:07 I like the way you teach, and now I feel confident to talk in English." She
15:07 I like the way you teach, and now I feel confident to talk in English." She
15:11 also said in there she had a little bit of difficulty,
15:11 also said in there she had a little bit of difficulty,
15:15 "I had never seen much progress
15:15 "I had never seen much progress
15:17 in my speaking skills." This can be very frustrating.
15:17 in my speaking skills." This can be very frustrating.
15:21 "Until I found you on YouTube and followed you for a few months,

15:23 then I subscribed to your course." And this is the truth, right?
15:23 then I subscribed to your course." And this is the truth, right?
15:27 You probably have taken some English classes,
15:27 You probably have taken some English classes,
15:29 maybe you watch tons of English YouTube videos,
15:29 maybe you watch tons of English YouTube videos,
15:33 but it can be really frustrating when you reach
15:33 but it can be really frustrating when you reach
15:36 a certain level because you don't see as much progress anymore,
15:36 a certain level because you don't see as much progress anymore,
15:40 and maybe that self-study type of method can only help you so far.
15:40 and maybe that self-study type of method can only help you so far.
15:46 Then you need to be guided to know what is the next step,
15:46 Then you need to be guided to know what is the next step,
15:50 and you need to do that together.
15:50 and you need to do that together.
15:52 I'll show you how we can do that together in just a minute.
15:57 Um before we go on, I want to ask you a question.
15:59 How long have you been learning English?
16:03 Tell me, has it been 2 months?
16:06 Pretty impressive if you can already understand me.
16:10 [laughter] Have you been learning English for 10 years?
16:12 30 years?
16:14 2 years?
16:15 Tell me in the comments how long you have been learning English.
16:20 I want to see what we have here because if you are learning
16:26 English and still trying to figure out what is the method for you,
16:31 what can help you to actually become a confident English speaker,
16:36 I imagine you're a motivated person, you are dedicated,
16:40 and you are willing to push through hardship.
16:44 You have not found methods that have worked for you before,
16:47 but you're not giving up, you're still trying.
16:50 This is excellent.
16:51 This is the key [laughter] to actually improving your English when you're
16:56 dedicated to finding what works for you.
16:59 So, I want to see how long have you been learning English?
17:03 2 years?
17:04 Great.
17:05 6 months?
17:06 7 years?
17:07 Lovely.
17:09 10 years?
17:12 1 year?
17:15 For 10 years, but no improvement.
17:18 This is what I'm talking about.
17:19 This can be really frustrating.
17:21 10 years is a pretty long time, right?
17:24 And if you feel like you improved a little at the beginning,
17:28 and then it's just been this plateau, you need to do something different.
17:32 And I would like to invite you to find that within the Fearless Fluency Club.
17:39 I have spent the last 10 years developing this course
17:43 to make it so that you can speak English confidently,
17:48 fluently, and feel so supported along the way.
17:54 So, what I would like to do is
17:56 introduce you to how the Fearless Fluency Club works.
17:59 So, pay attention carefully because we are going
18:02 to see if this method can work for you.
18:05 We're going to talk about the conversation breakdown method.
18:11 The conversation breakdown method is this proven
18:14 method that I have developed over
18:16 the last 10 years to help you be able to speak like real English speakers,
18:23 to take conversations between real English speakers, break it down,
18:28 which means take it into little pieces so that you
18:32 can also use that when you have real conversations.
18:36 And of course, there will be an opportunity
18:38 to use what you've learned within the course.
18:41 So, let's take you through the four steps of the conversation breakdown method.
18:48 Step number one is this.
18:50 You're going to watch a real English conversation.
18:55 Let's do this for a moment.
19:03 You're going to watch a real English conversation,
19:07 and this will happen every single month.
19:10 You will immerse yourself in how real English speakers speak together.
19:15 Now, if you can understand me in my YouTube videos, that's a great base,
19:20 but you know as well as I do that when you watch a TV show
19:25 or when you go out into the real world and try to speak with other people,
19:30 it's very different, right?
19:32 Because you need to level that up,
19:34 not just English teacher Vanessa speaking, you need to add more people,
19:40 you need to add more complex topics,
19:42 and this will help to prepare you for real conversations in the real world.
19:48 So, in the Fearless Fluency Club, every single month,
19:51 you will be immersed in a new real-life conversation.
19:56 You have access to all 40 of these fascinating topics.
20:00 Um but, we're going to focus on one each month.
20:03 If you are the extra motivated type,
20:07 you can study as many as you want on day one.
20:13 [laughter] But, we will study one per month.
20:14 And these are topics such as uh being a paramedic in the hospital,
20:20 talking about music, being a musician,
20:24 talking about meditation, about health care.
20:28 All of these topics, these are not just the basic conversations.
20:32 These are real-life conversations.
20:35 So, first, we're going to focus on these real conversation topics.
20:42 The second step is you are going to study the vocabulary,
20:45 phrasal verbs, and pronunciation that were used within that conversation.
20:52 So, these are not random vocabulary words,
20:55 random phrasal verbs, random pronunciation points.
20:59 No, no, no.
21:01 We are focusing on real-life English.
21:03 So, we are going to take vocabulary that was used from the conversation.
21:08 Take phrasal verbs and pronunciation that were used within that conversation
21:14 so that you can speak exactly like that real conversation.
21:19 This is the goal, to teach you exactly how real native speakers speak.
21:24 Step number three is you're going to quiz yourself.
21:28 I love a little low-pressure test, right?
21:33 [laughter] High-pressure tests are high-pressure.
21:34 But, you are going to quiz yourself
21:37 on the new expressions and phrasal verbs that you've learned.
21:40 See if you can remember them.
21:42 Give yourself a little challenge because step number four is coming.
21:50 [sighs] But before I tell you about it, I want to ask you a question.
21:54 Tell me.
21:56 Have you ever had a difficult time staying motivated to learn English?
22:03 Let me know in the comments.
22:07 When you have a long-term goal, like becoming a fluent English speaker,
22:13 do you think your journey is like this?
22:17 I will make a resolution, 2026.
22:20 I will speak fluent English by December 31st, 2026.
22:25 And your journey is just going to be like this the whole time,
22:28 up up up up up up up.
22:30 You'll be so motivated.
22:31 Every day you'll wake up and say, "Oh, it's a great day to learn English."
22:39 [laughter] Have you ever had difficulty staying motivated?
22:43 Uh yes, sometimes I struggle to stay motivated.
22:47 You're not alone.
22:48 But I remind myself why learning English is important and I keep practicing.
22:52 I love that.
22:53 So, if you ever need an extra boost to stay motivated,
22:59 this is why I would love to introduce you
23:02 to step number four of the conversation breakdown method.
23:07 Are you ready?
23:09 Step number four, you can join our community for weekly live lessons.
23:15 Every Sunday, I have a live-streamed lesson within our community.
23:23 Every Fearless Fluency Club student is welcome to join.
23:27 And this is a place where you will learn live.
23:30 You will be able to ask me any questions and get immediate feedback.
23:35 And you can stay motivated on a weekly basis.
23:39 I am here to answer your questions, but also to encourage you.
23:43 I know this power of having a guide, a teacher, someone to lead the way.
23:50 So, every single week, this is step number four,
23:52 you can join me for our weekly live-streamed lessons.
23:57 I'm very excited about this.
23:59 I have been doing this weekly lesson for almost 10 years,
24:04 every single week, every single Sunday.
24:08 And I am very happy to uh continue to do this.
24:14 In fact, I want to share with you what our lovely student Ava,
24:19 anyone who is in the Fearless Fluency Club probably knows.
24:23 Ava, thank you, Ava, for your lovely comments.
24:26 Uh she said, "Uh last but not least, I'd like to talk about the live lessons.
24:30 These are the most exciting, most vivid,
24:32 and most useful parts of the whole course.
24:35 It's more than just listening to explanations.
24:37 It's connecting with others in the group, thinking together,
24:41 and participating in a live event every single week.
24:44 You can ask Vanessa your questions and get your feedback immediately.
24:48 If you can't join online, you can rewatch it.
24:50 I recommend you give it a try.
24:52 The Fearless Fluency Club is totally worth it.
24:54 With love, Ava." Oh, thank you, Ava.
24:57 And I think this is absolutely true that when
25:00 you're participating in a live event, we are human.
25:04 We need connection.
25:05 We need to be able to be there, even if it's virtually live together.
25:12 This is essential to help us continue going.
25:16 And I have a feeling you will also
25:18 love the weekly live-streamed lessons, just like Ava.
25:23 [laughter] And before we go on to our next point, I want to shout out.
25:32 We have a few students who have joined the Fearless Fluency Club.
25:38 Uh if you would like to join Ava in the Fearless Fluency Club,
25:42 uh you can join at this link, speakenglishwithvanessa.com/live.
25:47 This link will lead you to be able to get our limited-time discount.
25:52 I'll tell you about this discount in more detail in a minute.

26:06 I am so excited.
26:07 I hope you can join the live lessons every Sunday.
26:10 I would love to see you there.
26:11 Uh we also have Zang Dongchu.
26:14 Thank you so much for joining me.
26:17 I am so excited to become your teacher.
26:20 And Kayako Tsuzuki.
26:22 Thank you for joining me from all over the world.
26:26 You're awesome.
26:29 [laughter] So, let's go on.
26:31 And I would like to know.
26:34 This is your chance.
26:35 Tell me, when was the last time you had a real conversation in English?
26:42 I don't mean a "Hi, how are you doing?" That's not a full conversation, right?
26:49 I mean a real conversation.
26:52 Because you're here to speak English, right?
26:56 Speak English with Vanessa.
26:57 It's in the name.
26:59 [laughter]
26:59 So, I want to know, when was the last time you had a real conversation?
27:03 Because the only way to improve your speaking skills is to speak.
27:09 You guessed it.
27:11 [laughter]
27:11 So, I want to know, when was the last time you had a real English conversation?
27:15 Does it happen often?
27:16 Tell me in the comments.
27:19 Oh, I see we have a never.
27:20 Never had a real English conversation.
27:23 You got this.
27:25 Last week.
27:26 Excellent.
27:27 Excellent.
27:29 Last Christmas.
27:32 Uh a couple weeks ago.
27:36 Five months ago with my foreign friend.
27:39 Love it.
27:39 Love it.
27:40 Last month.
27:42 Today.
27:44 That's wonderful.
27:48 Never.
27:49 Oh.
27:52 Yes, so Sergey.
27:53 Sergey says, "Weekly live classes." So, I want to tell you,
27:56 so the weekly live classes, there's two options.
27:59 One option is the Sunday live stream with me.
28:03 The second I'm about to tell you about.
28:06 You will be very excited to hear about this.
28:11 The bonus within this course is there are weekly speaking groups.
28:16 You can speak with other members every single week.
28:20 In fact, some people speak every single day together.
28:23 [laughter] But you can grow
28:24 your confidence and actually have real-life conversations.
28:29 There are incredibly kind, friendly,
28:33 lovely people within the Fearless Fluency Club
28:37 that are waiting to speak with you.
28:39 Some groups meet every single week.
28:42 Some groups meet twice a week.
28:45 And there is a group that meets every single Sunday.
28:48 And I'm the leader of this group,
28:51 so I will introduce you to the other
28:54 people and give you the structure for the call, and you will speak together.
28:59 You will break out into rooms of four or five people,
29:03 and you will speak together.
29:05 Because how can you improve your speaking skills?
29:07 You have to do it.
29:09 You have to get yourself outside your comfort zone.
29:12 And I tell my students again and again
29:15 that if you feel nervous about speaking in English,
29:19 first of all, this is very common.
29:21 It is incredibly human to feel nervous about doing something,
29:26 especially for the first time.
29:28 But, it's even though it's common, you need to push yourself a bit.
29:34 You need to try.
29:36 Don't just jump into a boardroom and give a huge presentation in English.
29:40 That's too much at the beginning, right?
29:42 What you need to do is you need to take the first step up.
29:46 The first step up is to speak with other English learners.
29:50 In this way, everyone understands exactly how you feel, that nervousness,
29:55 the mistakes, all of it, and they will be patient.
29:59 The next step is when you speak
30:00 with a native English speaker and you're testing those skills,
30:04 then you can speak with multiple people, and then you can give a presentation.
30:09 But if you jump right to that level, it's going to be too overwhelming and you
30:14 might just end up quitting because it's too frustrating.
30:17 So here I want to present you with that first
30:20 step where you can have weekly speaking groups,
30:23 make friends from around the world, and speak together.
30:27 Um I think that you would really love this.
30:31 And uh many friends would enjoy this.
30:35 Would enjoy meeting you as well.
30:38 Um our lovely friend Elaine has been part of the Fearless Fluency Club
30:42 for a long time and she joins the weekly speaking groups and she said,
30:48 "What surprised me even more was the wonderful community and the opportunity
30:54 to meet and interact with so many friends around the world.
30:58 Love it." This allows us to feel motivated and gung-ho about learning English.
31:04 Gung-ho was one of the phrases that we were learning that month.
31:09 [laughter] So this helps her to stay motivated, make friends,
31:12 make connections because we are not isolated
31:15 in our own bubble in the world, right?
31:18 We are connected with other people and we need that.
31:21 That's what's going to motivate you.
31:24 Even though it can be [sighs and gasps]
31:26 a little bit challenging at the beginning, we're here for you.
31:30 The second bonus also has to do with giving you speaking practice.
31:36 When you join the Fearless Fluency Club, you can join with the link over here.

43:21 this is absolutely something you will love.
43:23 And at the bottom here, you can always download the audio version of the lesson.
43:30 This is something that a lot of students who have a long commute enjoy.
43:35 They listen to the lessons while they're driving or on the train.
43:39 And you're welcome to take a quiz as well.
43:42 Um we can take a look at the grammar lesson

43:51 but there is also a special extra material section.
43:55 In this extra materials Oops.
44:03 phrasal verbs that you read about.
44:04 A lot of students enjoy this because when you watch movies and TV shows,
44:08 it can be really tricky to understand what people are saying,
44:11 but in the grammar section, we study movies and TV shows to help you
44:16 be able to hear the phrases that they're actually using.
44:20 So, this can boost your listening skills as well.
44:22 So, I explain them and then we also watch these clips and we
44:26 try to analyze and understand the nuance behind all of the clips.
44:33 And we have here our pronunciation lesson.
44:35 I know some of you mentioned pronunciation
44:37 is something that is difficult for you.
44:40 Well, I am pleased to say that in the pronunciation lesson,
44:44 we use what has been proven to be
44:47 the most effective pronunciation tool for improving your speaking,
44:54 improving your clarity,
44:56 improving the the cadence of your voice and that is shadowing.
45:03 So, here we are going to focus on one sentence.
45:05 You can see that sentence here and we
45:07 will break down using the conversation breakdown method,
45:11 we will break down this sentence into every single sound.
45:17 We will go through the phrase and we will make sure that you
45:21 can pronounce it exactly the way that it was pronounced in the conversation.
45:25 All of the connections, all of the cut-off sounds,
45:29 all of the tricky sounds for English learners,
45:33 we will go through them step-by-step.
45:35 And by really repeating like this and repeating after my voice,
45:39 you'll be able to speak that way as well and improve your pronunciation.
45:44 You will notice, I guarantee,
45:47 you will notice all of these pronunciation sounds as you're watching
45:51 movies and TV shows because we go over it in such detail.
