The 2026 F-150 Lobo Is So Good…But The Price Is Tough

The 2026 F-150 Lobo Is So Good…But The Price Is Tough

Matt Maran Motoring

0:00 Ford is bringing back this street truck with the 2026 F-150 Lobo.

0:05 And in this video, I'm going to cover the exterior, the interior,

0:08 take it for a drive, and see what it's like out on the road,

0:10 as well as talking about the kind of fuel economy you can expect

0:12 and also the pricing and how it compares to its kind of competitors these days.

0:16 There's really no competitor.

0:17 No one else is doing a street truck like this other than Ford right now.

0:21 And uh so we'll discuss though the other V8

0:23 powered stuff that you can get here these days.

0:25 And also huge thanks to Schultz Ford for providing me

0:28 here with this vehicle to review for you guys today.

0:31 So as far as the F-150 Lobo, so it is based on the STX trim,

0:35 which is actually the second from the lowest trim for the F-150.

0:39 So it's very much a stripped down basic kind of sport truck.

0:43 You can't load these up with a bunch of luxury options or anything.

0:46 It's a pretty stripped down truck.

0:47 That's why you have those lower trim headlights there.

0:50 You don't get the fancier lights you get on the higher versions of the F-150.

0:53 But of course for the Lobo here,

0:55 you do get a much sportier look thanks to a 10piece body kit you get on these.

0:59 So that's going to give you the sportier front end where you have

1:02 that extra little arrow kit there

1:04 and everything being body colored for, you know, the lower front bumper there.

1:08 You also get the unique grill which has not only the unique texture,

1:10 but also those cool little lights that go across the middle

1:14 of it there and nicely separates this from a regular F-150.

1:18 Uh you also have these hood vents here, which are a fun touch.

1:22 And coming down to the sides, you'll see that you have 22-in black

1:25 wheels on some allseason tires that, you know,

1:28 definitely give it a sportier appearance.

1:30 You also have the Lobo badge here and the black F-150 badging in general.

1:34 But the really impressive thing is they only lowered it 2 in in the rear.

1:38 In the front, it's factory ride height,

1:40 but because of this body kit, it looks lower than it actually is.

1:44 Um, now, of course, you can certainly spice that up

1:46 in the aftermarket and make it even lower if you want.

1:49 Uh, this is just kind of a starting point.

1:50 I'd say, you know, a lot of people are probably going to want

1:52 to do more mods to these than what you get from the factory here.

1:55 But, you know, it definitely gives it a great

1:57 look here on the sides of the side skirts.

1:58 And then also going out to the back there, you can see the little spats there,

2:03 even on the, you know, rear part of the side profile.

2:06 And then going out to the back there,

2:08 the other unique thing you'll see is that you

2:09 have those dual exhaust tips that are black.

2:11 And it's kind of the same coating that you get on the Raptors.

2:15 And so, you know, very much familiar

2:17 look there if you're familiar with the Raptors.

2:19 and uh you know is an upgraded exhaust as well to help

2:22 this 5 L V8 engine to roar a little bit better here.

2:30 You also get a bed liner here.

2:32 So that's one thing in the base STX that's an extra cost option.

2:35 Here in the Lobos you do thankfully get a bed liner so that's good.

2:38 You also get a plug there in the bed but otherwise

2:40 it's the same you know 5 1/2 ft short box here.

2:43 And that's the only way the Lobos come by the way.

2:45 You can only get it with the crew cab here.

2:47 You can only get it with the short box bed.

2:49 It'd be fun to see it with a longer bed or for the twodoor version, for example,

2:53 would be really a cool look to especially

2:55 hearken back to the old Lightnings of the day.

2:57 But, uh, overall, you know, especially in black here, looks really mean.

3:01 U, but there's some other fun colors for these, too,

3:03 if you don't want something quite this sinister,

3:05 but I think black is the way to go for these cuz it just looks so mean.

3:08 The interior of the F-150 Lobo is again pretty much a basic interior for these.

3:13 I already did a full in-depth review on the regular STX.

3:16 You can go watch that.

3:17 And I'll link that at the end of this video

3:18 if you want to hear a deep dive on this interior.

3:21 For this one, I'm going to kind of gloss

3:22 over it because there's really nothing that's unique.

3:24 There is a unique dash topper here with a little bit of a different pattern.

3:28 You also get a leather wrapped center console,

3:30 but they still have like the polyurethane plastic steering wheel here.

3:34 You still have single zone climate control.

3:36 Now, all the basic stuff you want is still here.

3:39 You still have wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto.

3:41 It still does have satellite radio,

3:43 and you still get this big 12-in touchscreen as standard.

3:45 That's something that many of the other

3:46 base trucks aren't going to be giving you.

3:48 And so, you know, Ford is really great how they give you,

3:51 you know, such impressive tech as standard here.

3:54 Also, the Lobos do bump you into the higher

3:56 STX package that gives you the 12-in digital gauge cluster.

3:59 So, you have that here on this, but you still have like a twist key ignition.

4:01 You still have the column mounted shifter, all those things,

4:04 which I think are going to be fine for most people that buy these.

4:06 But also, I think maybe it was only 2025,

4:09 you got yellow stitching was supposed to be the unique thing on the inside.

4:12 This just has the regular stitching and this fabric

4:14 pattern is all the same as a regular STX.

4:17 It would have been nice to see them, you know, differentiate this a little bit.

4:20 There's not even a single Lobo badge in here.

4:22 Um, you know, I mean, not like you need to have badging,

4:24 but just to make this feel a little more special on the inside.

4:28 I think that would have been nice, but you know,

4:29 they wanted to keep it to a lower price point, I suppose.

4:32 And so anyway, you know, there's also no real options for these surprisingly,

4:37 even though Ford is the king of options with F-150.

4:39 Um, for these you have like the mobile office option, which this one does have,

4:44 and there's a couple other small things,

4:46 but there's no way to get a leather wrapped steering wheel.

4:48 There's no way to get, you know,

4:50 heated seats or, you know, any of these other nice features.

4:53 So, you know, you're going to be stuck with a, you know, more basic truck here.

4:57 Obviously, you can still get the V8 with other versions of the F-150,

5:00 but if you want the cool look,

5:01 you're going to have to be okay with a base interior.

5:03 Uh, and so, yeah, that's about it as far as this interior goes.

5:06 Um, again, you can go watch the deep dive

5:09 on the regular STX if you want to hear more.

5:11 But anyway, let's turn it on and go for a drive.

5:15 So, we have again the regular good oldfashioned Ford uh

5:19 flip out key here that they've had for a long time.

5:22 And, uh, fun to have that.

5:23 And it just has your basic buttons there on the back.

5:26 There's some focus.

5:27 Uh, so yeah, just a basic key there.

5:30 But, of course, uh, like I said, it's just a twist key ignition.

5:32 It means you don't have keyless access either or anything like that.

5:35 So, you got to pull out the key,

5:36 unlock it the oldfashioned way, and turn it on the old fashioned way.

5:39 So, you slip it in, put your foot on the brake, and it roars to life.

5:44 It is kind of funny.

5:44 You even don't have a unique startup screen here for the gauge cluster.

5:48 So, it's still showing you a high trim regular F-150.

5:51 You know, I mean, that's a little coding thing.

5:53 You think it'd be easy enough just to coat in, you know,

5:56 the Lobo look and maybe the Lobo logo.

5:59 How long would that have taken?

6:01 You know, I don't know.

6:01 Maybe there's a good reason why, but to me,

6:03 even that would have been a really nice little touch.

6:06 All right, so setting off here in the F-150 Lobo.

6:09 So, the first thing you notice, I think the first thing I notice is the nice

6:12 uh growl from that 5 L Coyote V8 engine.

6:16 Um, always sounds so good.

6:18 And, uh, nice little burble.

6:20 You do hear it.

6:20 It's, you know, subtle.

6:21 It's not crazy.

6:22 Of course, you can go to the aftermarket and make it as loud as you want,

6:25 but, you know, it's a nice nice little touch.

6:28 Again, if we were going more advanced with a Lobo,

6:30 it would have been nice to see like an active exhaust on this, but uh you know,

6:34 beggars can't be choosers, I suppose,

6:36 since again, there is no competition to this.

6:38 First impressions here, you know, with this lowered suspension,

6:40 anyone worried about a worse ride quality,

6:44 it feels very similar to any other F-150.

6:46 It's just, you know, lower, you know,

6:48 as far as the rear there, but feels totally normal.

6:51 It's not stiffer in my opinion.

6:53 Now, that might hurt us out on the back road if you

6:55 are someone who does want to do some sportier driving in your Lobo.

6:58 But even still, you know, these street trucks were never really about handling.

7:02 They're more so just about straight line speed.

7:04 Um, you know, at least as far as, you know, the Fords go.

7:06 So, not expecting anything, you know, too impressive as far as handling goes.

7:10 You can always upgrade that yourself.

7:12 We'll talk about that more though here in a minute.

7:15 But otherwise, you know, everything else is typical.

7:17 Good F-150, nice and responsive throttle,

7:20 especially here with a naturally aspirated V8.

7:22 uh you know, brakes have a nice and you know,

7:25 easy kind of feel to them where, you know,

7:27 there's a little bit of dead travel and then it starts to bite,

7:29 but it's not too grabby or anything.

7:31 But I'm going to go ahead and put it up into the sport mode,

7:33 which um does give you uh the four automatic mode as standard.

7:38 Now, you can put it into two wheel drive if you want in sport mode still,

7:41 but it defaults to doing the four automatic.

7:44 This does have the 373 rear axle

7:46 with the automatic four-wheel drive system here.

7:48 Uh you do still have four high and four low,

7:50 though, if you want to again do all that yourself.

7:52 And there's also still like the off-road mode,

7:54 tow modes, all the other usual modes here.

7:56 So, we're going to try out the because the roads are a little bit damp.

7:58 So, we're going to try out the full automatic mode here.

8:00 We will do a little bit more rear wheel drive fun here in a minute.

8:03 But, um, first off, just turn down onto this back road.

8:06 Let's see how it accelerates.

8:08 And here we go.

8:12 Wow.

8:14 Wow.

8:14 Wow.

8:15 I was not expecting that much sound.

8:18 Holy crap.

8:20 It's been, you know,

8:21 I will admit about maybe five years since I've been in a V8 F-150, but wow.

8:26 I I mean, it's just so much induction noise.

8:30 Wow.

8:30 I'm getting tongue tied.

8:31 I'm so shocked.

8:33 But like, you know, I was expecting more out

8:35 of the back and I didn't hear that much.

8:36 It was mostly just like hearing that actual engine noise up front there.

8:41 And that is great.

8:44 Wow.

8:44 That's That's really cool.

8:45 I don't know if they removed some sound deadening or or what, but man,

8:49 that's that's a lot more noise than you get

8:51 with a regular version of the F-150 as far as engine noise.

8:54 That's awesome.

8:55 So, anyway, 5 L Coyote V8 engine, once again,

8:58 the same one that's shared with the Mustang.

9:00 It does 400 horsepower, 410 lb feet of torque in this application.

9:05 And, uh, 0 to 60 time for these is about 6.3 seconds.

9:08 And, you know, that's not crazy fast, but you know,

9:11 this is just supposed to be about fun.

9:13 If you want to have the fastest thing

9:14 in a straight line and you've got the, you know, double the price tag to spend,

9:18 you can go for the Raptor R with its much much higher power output.

9:22 Or if you're okay losing the V8, of course,

9:23 you can go to, uh, the regular Raptor there.

9:26 There's also a manual mode here, but, you know,

9:29 it's just little buttons here on the shifter.

9:30 I don't think it's going to be something you're going to be

9:32 using for fun because there is no way to, you know,

9:35 shift it at a stick because you don't

9:36 have one and there's no paddle shifters or anything.

9:38 So, we'll just leave it in the automatic mode, let it do its thing there.

9:42 But um yeah, this thing is fun.

9:45 And uh when the roads were even a little bit more wet,

9:47 whenever I was just driving to the filming location there,

9:49 I was in two wheel drive mode.

9:51 And you know, like any other rear wheel drive truck, you know,

9:55 with a decent amount of power like this one, I mean,

9:57 you can absolutely play around with the back end there.

9:59 And uh you know, again, this is a a brand new truck here,

10:02 so I'm not going to be doing any kind of crazy sliding around or anything,

10:06 but just know it absolutely could do that stuff

10:08 if you wanted to, especially with these tires,

10:10 which we'll talk about as we're going around these corners here.

10:13 So, chucking it in here.

10:16 And, you know, the thing that's I'd say is improved,

10:19 especially with these springs, is that you do have less body roll.

10:23 This does feel a little bit flatter than a regular F-150.

10:26 Again, it doesn't feel like it's on rails or anything,

10:29 but it is, you know, better.

10:31 You just still have to be very much aware of your limits here,

10:34 which are certainly much lower being, you know,

10:36 5,000 lb long big pickup truck here.

10:40 So, we have these 22-in wheels with these allseason tires.

10:43 And just being low profile also is going to help this to handle better

10:46 than a regular F-150 with those big thick sidewalls you often have on those.

10:50 Now, unfortunately, the tires are kind of um I

10:54 guess mid is the best way to put them.

10:56 You know, they're just regular like um hyper mileing allseason tires.

11:01 They're nothing grippy, nothing sporty whatsoever.

11:04 Aside from again just having less sidewall.

11:06 So, I guess by nature they're a little bit sportier,

11:08 but they're not grippy tires.

11:10 Since this is kind of a newer segment,

11:12 I'm not sure how many truck tires are out there that are sportier.

11:15 Maybe that was part of the limitation that Ford had.

11:18 But, you know, I'm hoping there's some kind of sporty

11:22 street truck kind of tire you could put on these.

11:24 You know, you can always do some upgrades yourself there

11:26 or at least do a stickier allseason if nothing else.

11:29 But there's the one downside.

11:31 I think, you know, it would have been nice to see a sportier tire on this.

11:34 I can understand, you know,

11:35 the appeal of just putting all seasons on these, but again,

11:38 there's plenty of sporty all seasons as well they could have chosen from.

11:42 Um, but yeah, this thing, it sounds so good.

11:49 Here you have almost a 7,000 RPM red line here.

11:52 This thing is really fun.

11:55 And um, yeah, even though, you know,

11:57 there are faster and stronger versions of the F-150,

12:00 if you just want a cool truck that sounds great,

12:03 that goes really well still, I think this is the way to go.

12:06 And you have the simplicity of a bulletproof V8 at this point.

12:10 This motor's been proven over, you know, a decade and a half now.

12:13 It's, you know, had all the bugs worked out at this point.

12:15 It's just a really solid motor.

12:17 Whether we're talking about the F-150 here or the Mustang,

12:21 the 10-speed, I, you know, even in sport mode here,

12:24 I would like it to be a little quicker with downshifts,

12:27 but overall, it's it's pretty good.

12:31 I mean, it's responsive enough.

12:32 I'm not going to nitpick.

12:33 It's fine.

12:34 Uh, but I do think that the ZF8 speed that you get in the Rams,

12:39 for example, is a better transmission and a sportier transmission.

12:42 The other thing to mention here, though,

12:43 is towing and payload are still very good.

12:46 So, you still have a 7,900 lb tow rating.

12:48 You have a 14 uh 50 payload rating here.

12:52 So, still, you know,

12:53 a pretty capable truck and again with that bedlininer certainly helps.

12:56 Also, you do have like some of the basic stuff like

12:58 blind spot monitoring is still present here in this, which is great.

13:01 You do also have lane keeping assist which we will

13:04 try out here very brief briefly on the highway as we,

13:07 you know, test out the highway cruising capability of this.

13:10 Again, it's an F-150.

13:11 I'm not expecting it to, you know, let me down or anything.

13:14 All right, so now we're out on the highway here in the F-150 Lobo,

13:18 and you know, it's a nice highway cruiser here.

13:20 Uh, you know, you still have a little bit of road noise.

13:23 Again, it's not going to be whisper quiet in here or anything, but totally fine.

13:27 And you know, that exhaust chills out here in these lower RPMs,

13:30 so you don't hear any drone or anything like that.

13:33 And it's nice and smooth even, you know, with the sportier suspension setup.

13:37 You know, you feel the road for sure.

13:39 You feel the little bumps.

13:40 It's still a body onframe truck.

13:42 You're, you know, never going to be able to get rid of that, you know.

13:44 And I will say that's another area if you are looking for the smoothest ride.

13:47 The Ram is still going to be the best,

13:49 at least as far as the ones that offer V8s here.

13:51 I think that's certainly going to be, you know, the the smoothest ride still.

13:54 But, you know, assuming that, you know, that's not a big deal for you,

13:58 just know that, yeah, these are great out on the highway here.

14:00 You do have, you know,

14:01 this lane keep assist system, which is working pretty good.

14:03 You do not have adaptive cruise control

14:04 as standard in the truck segment, though.

14:06 You know, it's still usually an option.

14:08 So, four is not out of line for that.

14:10 But, um, that's really the only, you know, thing that you don't have otherwise.

14:14 is, you know, again, it's great to have the blind spot monitoring,

14:16 great to have the lane keep assist, and for a lot of people,

14:19 especially people buying these uh, you know,

14:21 lower trims and people that want the sportier experience,

14:24 you're probably fine to do all the driving yourself anyway,

14:26 so it's mostly irrelevant.

14:27 But just know that on a long highway road trip,

14:29 at least you do have, you know, a little bit of assistance there.

14:32 Fuel economy for the F-150 Lobo is going to be 16 MPG in the city,

14:37 24 on the highway, and 19 combined.

14:39 Again, if you're going for one of these, you don't really care.

14:41 you know, if you want the best fuel economy and a bunch of power,

14:44 you can't get the power boost version of the F-150,

14:46 but that of course is going to be more expensive.

14:49 But, uh, you know, that's just the only thing to say.

14:51 And also, it's worth noting, you know, you can only get the Lobo with the V8.

14:55 There's no way to get it with the, you know,

14:57 more fuel efficient engines or anything like that.

14:59 So, you know, if you want the cool look, you got to have the V8.

15:02 But, I think that most people probably want that combo anyway.

15:05 So, not a big deal there.

15:07 Now, the last thing to really mention is

15:08 the pricing and how it kind of compares to competition.

15:12 So, let's get into that.

15:13 So, the 2026 Ford F-150 Lobo starts at $60,300 currently.

15:18 And this one, it shows Ford is $60,990 as tested.

15:22 And if you're in the greater Pittsburgh area and you're interested in it,

15:25 there will be a link in the description

15:26 to take you to their site and get more info.

15:29 For everyone else, you're definitely going to head over

15:30 to mattmaranmoing.com and go to the new car quotes page.

15:34 There you get access to dealer invoice pricing

15:36 as well as getting connected with a local dealer

15:38 so you can check out the F-150 logo

15:40 for yourself and see what you think about it.

15:42 So there's going to be a link in the description as well as one

15:44 in a pinned comment to take you straight to that site and get you all that info.

15:48 Now, as far as competition goes, nobody else really offers a factory body kit

15:52 or a sportier look beyond the usual blackout packages.

15:56 But if you don't mind doing your own body kit,

15:58 you can get a Ram 1500 Express with the V8,

16:01 and it costs just $52,687 before incentives,

16:06 but there's a smaller touchscreen, no digital gauges, and no four-wheel drive.

16:10 If you want one that's more comparable

16:12 with four-wheel drive and the bigger touchscreen,

16:14 it's $58,875 before those incentives, but still slightly cheaper than the Lobo,

16:20 and you get the Ram smoother ride.

16:22 The only other one with the V8 is the Silverado and its Sierra Twin.

16:25 Chevy requires you to go up to an LTZ trim if you want the V8,

16:28 which is $64,000 before incentives,

16:31 but it comes with more luxuries and the ability to get more options.

16:34 But if you're going to forego the street truck look,

16:36 you can get a V8 F-150 Lariat

16:38 for $63,000 that has heated and ventilated leatherrett seats,

16:43 a heated steering wheel, BNO stereo, and a whole bunch of other nice things.

16:47 And that brings me to possibly the strongest competitor, other F-150s.

16:51 For just $2,000 more than this Lobo as tested, you can get a much nicer truck.

16:56 The Lobo is cool, but if it's going to be bare bones, it's got to be cheaper.

17:00 A body kit, exhaust, and wheels aren't a fair trade

17:03 in my opinion for a loaded interior, nicer headlights,

17:06 and the bunch of other features that you can

17:08 have for basically the same money in that Lariat.

17:11 So, yeah, overall, I love the F-150 Lobo here.

17:14 It's a bunch of fun.

17:15 I love the fact that street trucks are starting to return thanks to Ford.

17:19 Here we have this.

17:20 We also have, you know, the Maverick Lobo now.

17:22 And uh, you know, I hope that the other

17:24 competitors follow suit here with actual street truck versions.

17:28 In the meantime, you know, I love that, you know,

17:30 Ford's the one pioneering this resurgence of these.

17:33 And I think it's a really cool package.

17:35 Yes, it's a little pricey.

17:36 Yes, I wish they did more to differentiate it from a regular F-150.

17:40 Uh, you know, especially on the inside here.

17:43 But, you know, overall, it's really, really cool.

17:45 And uh yeah, my only wish list stuff is that, you know,

17:47 I wish that uh there was an option to get more options on these, you know,

17:51 and maybe a higher trim pack to make these a little bit nicer.

17:54 And then I also just, you know,

17:55 would love to see some kind of Lobo R because, you know,

17:59 if there's demand for this, I could see there being

18:02 demand also for the supercharged V8 in something like this.

18:06 And I think that would be a really fun combo.

18:09 um obviously be a lot more expensive,

18:11 but I think you know it could be a really really fun option even if it

18:15 does gain another $20,000 or whatever the premium

18:18 typically is from regular Raptor to Raptor R.

18:21 I think having this thing with the supercharged V8 would be amazing.

18:24 Now you can get that, you know,

18:26 in the aftermarket even through Ford Performance.

18:28 I believe you can get the Whipple supercharger for these.

18:31 Um, so you know, certainly available, but if you would like, you know,

18:34 a more well-rounded package with bigger brakes and all the other stuff,

18:37 you know, I think that, you know,

18:38 a Lobo R could be, you know, a really cool option, too.

18:41 But anyway, that's all of my thoughts here on the F-150 Lobo.

18:44 Let me know your thoughts on it in the comments below.

18:46 Huge thanks once again to Schultz Ford for providing

18:48 me here with this vehicle to review for you guys.

18:50 And be sure to go watch the regular F-150 or my review of the Raptor

18:53 R from a couple years ago if you want to see what that's like.

18:56 And yeah, thanks so much for watching this one and I'll see you on the next one.

18:59 Take care.
