0:45 And over a decade ago, we did an amazing interview on a private jet.

0:48 When my wife and I met, my wife we both grew up very poor.

0:51 But, I decided that I was going to find a way to add so much

0:54 value that money would never be a question for my family and and you know,

0:57 it would never stop me from giving or doing or sharing anything.

1:00 And I made that decision early on.

1:02 And now, over a decade later,

1:03 we're doing another epic interview in this home here in Bel Air.

1:06 Pretty amazing home.

1:07 Four stories high.

1:08 Downstairs, there's the most amazing areas, you know, for for spa areas.

1:12 And all these doors open up.

1:13 So, this spiral staircase that goes up all four stories.

1:16 And you're looking right over the Bel Air Country Club and Century City.

1:20 It's So, it's just cool.

1:21 So, Living the dream.

1:30 I'm about to interview Tony, and I've had him on the show many times.

1:33 The last time I had him on the show was a few years ago,

1:36 but he has learned and created so much

1:38 in the last few years that every time I'm around him,

1:41 I just I feel like I gain wisdom, I gain knowledge, [music] I gain lessons.

1:45 And he's one of the legends in our industry.

1:47 And so, it's always fun to be around

1:49 Tony whenever I get the chance to interview him.

1:57 Man, this I actually never driven through Bel Air.

1:59 It's pretty nice.

2:01 Maybe I should get a vlog for this whole episode.

2:04 We just make one for this.

2:06 And there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes

2:08 to prepare [music] for an interview like this with Tony.

2:10 Specifically, when it's not in our set.

2:13 So, we're at a 150 million plus, [music] you know, mansion in Bel Air.

2:17 We have to move our crew.

2:20 We've got to get the right equipment, the lighting, the audio.

2:22 [music] All these things have to be set.

2:25 And there's just a lot of moving parts and logistics.

2:28 [music] So, it's a little bit more stress.

2:30 There's a little bit more challenges to try to prepare for something like

2:33 this out of the School of Greatness studio when we set [music] up with Tony.

2:40 You got to clear out all that noise.

2:42 And in a setting like this, there should be a lot of distractions.

2:44 There's a lot of people coming and going in this house.

2:47 So, there's unforeseen challenges [music] that you

2:50 have to face and try to prepare

2:51 for and really try to think ahead about all the things that could go wrong.

2:55 And how do you [music] contain the energy?

2:57 How do you make sure you show up

2:59 ready and prepared to deliver a great interview?

3:02 I first met Tony, I think it was 10 years

3:05 ago where I got to interview him for the first time.

3:07 And that was like my first big episode.

3:11 At the time, it was just an audio podcast.

3:13 And that's kind of one of the reasons

3:15 why we started filming episodes [music] because I said,

3:18 "We have this huge guest, and I have to get this on on video."

3:22 And how old are you now?

3:22 42.

3:23 That's 43 in March.

3:25 That's great.

3:26 Yeah.

3:26 That's great.

3:26 That's a great time.

3:27 Took me a long time to figure some stuff out, you know.

3:29 Still figuring it out.

3:30 There you go.

3:30 That life is still figuring out for everybody,

3:32 but [laughter] you're you're a man now.

3:34 You're not a man when you're 25.

3:35 You think you are, but you're not, you know.

3:39 Exactly.

3:39 And so, he's seen me evolve.

3:41 He's also seen me go through ups and downs with relationships.

3:46 A little over 5 years ago during a private mastermind with Tony,

3:50 I had a massive breakthrough around my personal struggles.

3:53 Can I coach you directly as a friend?

3:55 Please do.

3:55 You got to stop finding what you're looking

3:57 for in order to justify by protecting yourself.

4:01 95% of success in a relationship is selection.

4:05 It's not the selection you're thinking.

4:08 It's not who you select.

4:10 It's which part of yourself you select to bring to this relationship.

4:14 And who primarily is the person who selects

4:18 within themself to be in relationship with you.

4:21 You have to be willing to go deeper.

4:22 You got to be this kind of vulnerability that you're being with me right now,

4:25 which I want to thank you for just as a friend.

4:27 That I'm a friend of yours even we might only talk once every

4:30 year and a half because I get who you are at a soulful level,

4:33 not who you project.

4:34 Who you project is a really great guy, too,

4:36 but I'm more interested in this guy you see

4:37 right here cuz this guy will touch people's lives.

4:40 This guy can have a level of fulfillment most people never have.

4:44 The other guy will succeed.

4:46 Success is getting what you want.

4:49 Fulfillment is bringing what you're made for to those you

4:51 love and those you've learned to love.

4:54 And I think the thing that [music] Tony really taught me the most is

4:57 to value myself and create boundaries [music]

5:00 in intimacy so that I don't lose myself.

5:03 And so, I've really appreciated that time with him because he's kind of always

5:06 been this checkpoint [music] every time I

5:08 see him to see how I'm doing emotionally, where I'm at my relationships.

5:12 And thank [music] God,

5:13 I'm in a great place in my relationship with Martha right now.

5:16 Martha's your wife?

5:17 Martha?

5:17 Martha.

5:18 Yeah.

5:19 How long you've been together?

5:24 [music] And I want you to know that I love you very much.

7:19 And she is very adventurous and creative and talented and beautiful, obviously.

7:24 But, courage to me is the quality that I

7:26 think is one of the hardest [music] to have.

7:28 You can be born with beauty.

7:29 You can be born with talent in certain things,

7:31 but courage I think you [music] have to develop over time.

7:34 So, that was one of my first words for you.

7:36 And I just think you're a beautiful, courageous woman.

7:37 [music] So, I love you.

7:39 I'm grateful for you.

7:40 And thank you for being a blessing in my life.

7:42 It is my intention [music]

7:44 to remember that I am worthy so I can fully receive your love,

7:49 to continue to accept you with all of your colors,

7:52 to cheer you in all of your dreams,

8:19 We really designed the experience the way we envisioned it.

8:29 And there's music and dancing and mariachi and the whole thing.

8:32 And it was just a special experience in Mexico and one we will always remember.

8:45 [music] So, state is the controlling factor in everything.

8:46 And in a relationship, Congratulations.

8:49 You've got your two daughters and your your wife.

8:51 We talked for many years about relationships together.

8:53 [laughter] I struggled for many years with But now, but you you did it right.

8:56 You I needed to learn a new story.

8:58 I needed to I needed to learn a new

9:00 story and I needed to kind of heal that story

9:02 and create a a different one for myself so

9:04 I could attract the wife that I have That's right.

9:07 But even before you got the story, you had to get the state.

9:09 Yes.

9:09 When the state was there, then it became easier to get the state.

9:12 living in fear a lot [music] in intimacy.

9:18 It just blew my mind that there was two

9:20 [music] human beings inside of Martha that were growing.

9:24 And it's crazy to see them from the smallest heartbeats and then growing

9:30 over time [music] through the different ultrasounds

9:33 and just seeing them continue to grow.

9:34 It's almost like you can see their face and their personalities.

9:41 You're entering a world that a lot of people will say is very chaotic.

9:45 And in some ways, there are a lot of things

9:47 around the world that are not so good right now.

9:50 But, our intention is to create a world

9:53 and an environment for you that is full of love,

9:57 peace, harmony, support, family, encouragement, acceptance, play, adventure.

10:04 Now, turn around.

10:06 Oh my gosh.

10:07 So, even though there's a lot of challenges in the world,

10:10 our goal is to create an environment where you thrive emotionally,

10:15 physically, spiritually, and you allow yourself to have a creative expression,

10:21 and you feel supported to be who you are.

10:24 At this time, I feel like I'm ready in my life to be a father,

10:28 and I don't think I could have said that 5 or 10 years ago.

10:30 What is your deepest fear?

10:31 Same as every other human.

10:32 I'm not enough, and I won't be loved.

10:34 So, you spent your whole life proving you're more than enough.

10:38 But now you're still worried you won't be loved.

10:40 Cuz they don't have any relationship.

10:42 I don't think I was emotionally ready for it, personally.

10:45 Now, I'm sure if I had children sooner, [music] I would have figured it out,

10:49 and I would have done my best, but I truly feel like I'm emotionally,

10:53 physically, [music] spiritually, financially prepared,

10:57 and I have more tools to hopefully be a better

11:00 father than I would have been 10 years ago.

11:01 The worst thing a parent can do

11:04 is give their child everything without boundaries,

11:07 discipline, values, so that you can thrive

11:10 and not be a victim to your environment.

11:12 So, [music] that's what we want for you.

11:13 We want you to feel loved and accepted.

11:15 We want you to feel lots of self-worth and confidence.

11:18 That's my message to you.

11:19 There you go.

11:25 Again, this goes back to Tony.

11:26 [music] Just he's been a consistent of trying to support me and be

11:30 a mirror for what's possible to healing

11:33 certain things that were holding me back.

11:35 And so, I really feel like I've done a lot of the healing work,

11:37 and I still have a long way to go in a lot of areas,

11:39 but I've done a lot to be ready to be a father now.

11:44 First-time parent, right?

11:46 Yeah.

11:46 And you got two of them simultaneously.

11:47 Do the same thing you do with anything else.

11:49 You want to jump into parenting and learn everything you can about it.

11:52 So, when the things happen, you know the pattern in advance.

11:55 Yeah.

11:55 You have a great state, have a great story, and you have a great strategy.

11:58 Certain things, they're predictable.

12:00 When you have your first child, for example, most people with first child,

12:02 the child gets really sick, and they freak out, they run to the doctor.

12:05 If they have four kids, by the time they get to the fourth kid,

12:08 about the last one.

12:08 they get an ear ache, they they can you care about it just as much,

12:10 but you go, "It's part of this stage.

12:12 It's a problem, but you don't freak out

12:13 about the problem." Same thing in a business.

12:15 In a business, when you understand the patterns,

12:17 each stage has predictable challenges and opportunities,

12:20 and the more you can know the pattern in advance, the more you can anticipate.

12:24 Anticipation is power.

12:26 Reaction puts you in fear.

12:29 And so, you found the right state, the right story,

12:31 and then you found the right lady, right?

12:33 Exactly.

12:33 I was [music] certain it was going to be uncertain.

12:35 Yes.

12:36 And I would be okay.

12:38 And that extrapolate that to life, and it changes anybody's life.

12:46 I woke up at 3:00 a.m.

12:48 I couldn't sleep, and then I was up at 3:00 a.m.

12:50 Cuz I'm excited, and I'm nervous,

12:51 cuz I wanted to clear, I wanted to finalize all today,

12:54 because this is like a rare opportunity to essentially take over a club.

12:58 There's maybe like 20, 30 clubs in the country.

13:01 So, I was going to start my own club.

13:03 I did not want to take over a handball team.

13:06 I had played in a tournament the previous year where there

13:09 was [music] a president who said he was retiring from the team,

13:13 and he allowed me and another friend of mine to bring this team together,

13:17 and to bring on the people that we wanted to to go play.

13:20 We won this tournament, and we qualified for the World Championships.

13:24 This president of that team came out of retirement.

13:26 [music] He essentially said, "Well, you guys won,

13:29 I'm coming back to take over." And for me, that didn't feel right.

13:32 I was with Martha when this is all happening,

13:33 and she Ask God where he [snorts] needs you to be.

13:37 And so, I literally just was like, "Okay, God,

13:39 where do you need me to be?" I kid you not,

13:41 within less than an hour, I got a text message from the president

13:45 of the Los Angeles Handball Club that said,

13:48 "Hey, what's it going to take for you to be a part

13:50 of the LA team?" In order for me to do this and play with LA,

13:53 I would need to be the full owner.

13:54 president, I would need to have control over everything.

13:57 That's what it would take for me.

13:58 I just kind of said,

13:59 "This is everything it would take," thinking that he would say, "Okay,

14:02 that's too much." And he says,

14:04 "That sounds like a good plan." And I'm like, "What?" I'm here in LA.

14:09 I've played with LA before.

14:11 I like the community, obviously, here and what they create.

14:13 They have a court they practice at already,

14:15 so I don't know if I have to find my own new court.

14:17 They have kind of a structure.

14:18 They have social media assets.

14:20 I wouldn't have to create anything new.

14:22 I would just take them all over.

14:26 [music] If we're going to do this, we need to act with speed,

14:30 cuz the first tournament is in a month,

14:32 and I need to start recruiting players, I need to buy the jerseys,

14:35 I need to like do all these things.

14:39 [music] Hello.

14:42 Yep, I can hear you.

14:43 Did Abe get back with the contract yet or not?

14:47 [music] Contract, yes.

14:47 Abe sent it.

14:50 And it became a mission, a goal, and a dream to learn how to play handball.

14:55 From living in Ohio on my sister's couch to moving to New York

14:58 City a few years later to playing with the New York City team

15:01 to then making the national team within 9 [music] months to then traveling

15:04 with the national team for a decade

15:06 all around the world to then getting injured,

15:08 taking a number of years off, and then coming back [music] in 2024,

15:12 and that's when I played in Spain for 6 weeks training for one of the top clubs,

15:16 and then I played at the North American Championships.

15:19 And this is [music] where we won and qualified for the World Championships.

15:22 I went out and got sponsors.

15:23 We got True Classic.

15:25 A friend of mine who runs True Classic supported us,

15:27 funded us to help us bring great players together, sponsored the jersey,

15:31 all these different things to [music] then

15:33 taking over the Los Angeles Handball Club.

15:35 All these things happening, it has been an unfolding of events.

15:39 The title was The Will to Win.

15:42 And it was my life.

15:43 It was like I could cry just thinking about it.

15:45 It was so intense.

15:47 I I'm I'm reading it and crying, just going, "I'm only here still,

15:51 all that I've been through, because of my pure will,

15:53 that I will not give up." And that made

15:55 me believe that if you really are sincere,

15:57 and you're really real, and you really give,

15:59 and you tell the truth, you can write your own ticket.

19:39 So, this could be the hub where other great athletes come from all

19:43 over the world to want to come and play handball in the United States.

19:46 This could be America's team in Los Angeles.

19:50 The last time that Los Angeles won a national championship was 16 years ago.

19:56 And in order to be successful,

19:58 we needed to find a way to change the environment,

20:01 the energy, the brand, the communication, the values,

20:04 so that we can build [music] a team of great athletes,

20:08 of great handball players,

20:09 and great human beings who want to win, who have the will to win.

20:24 I'm the new owner and president of the Los Angeles Handball Forum.

20:28 And this is the first tournament here in Chicago.

20:31 And it's a great start to the season so far.

20:34 I'm just grateful [music] for the opportunity to get back on the court,

20:37 to have an amazing coach who has been

20:39 leading us and guiding us with the right directions.

20:41 [music] And it's just so good to see a lot

20:43 of these guys that I used to play with on the national team,

20:46 and other [music] players in Los Angeles as well.

20:48 These different players coming from everywhere all over America,

20:51 coming from the world, let's say.

20:54 Come together, just do one practice and then play.

21:00 So, step one, [music] win a national championship.

21:03 Step two, go to the North American Championship and win that.

21:06 Step three, take it to the World Championship and do our best

21:10 as a club amateur team to play

21:12 against the biggest professional teams in the world.

21:18 So far, we're having a great time,

21:19 getting to know each other, coming together, [music] playing hard, playing fast.

21:23 I was really excited with this project.

21:25 It's something that's new and fresh [music] towards uh USA Handball.

21:28 Louis brought in a great team and a great roster and uh

21:30 and a a great foundation [music] for for something new and exciting.

21:33 Really exciting time for our sport in the Olympics.

21:36 We will be qualified as the host country,

21:37 which is something that hasn't happened uh since '96.

21:40 Olympics is always the goal for any athlete, right?

21:42 [music] It's the largest competition,

21:43 it's the most recognized, most global competition.

21:46 So, already there's a lot of buzz, there's a lot of excitement,

21:48 there's a lot of energy happening around LA Handball.

21:51 People are just excited about what we're creating.

21:54 It's clear that the United States is going [music]

21:55 to have a team in the Olympics, that's for sure.

21:57 You can see a clear evolution in the last years.

21:59 There's more people [music] showing interest.

22:01 a great opportunity leading into the Olympics

22:03 for the next few years to try to create momentum,

22:06 to try to create more marketing [music] and awareness around the sport,

22:09 and try to make this the center,

22:11 the epicenter of handball in the USA, in LA, for the Olympics.

22:16 1 2 3 COURAGE does not mean you're not afraid.

22:20 It means you're afraid, but you do it anyway.

22:24 in a higher understanding that everything has a higher purpose,
