0:44 So what is a tongue twister and can they really improve your pronunciation?
0:50 Yes, absolutely.
0:52 A tongue twister is a phrase or a sentence that is difficult to say,
0:57 usually because a lot of the sounds are repeated and they're similar sounds.
1:02 And the reason why they're so hard
1:04 is because you're supposed to say them quickly
1:07 and accurately without stumbling over your words
1:10 and getting tongue-tied but that's part of the fun.
1:14 Now the meaning of tongue twisters, well, they're often completely ridiculous.
1:20 They're not meant to be understood.
1:23 Instead, think of them as a tool
1:25 to help you get repeated practice with specific sounds.
1:30 And yes, tongue twisters have long been used to perfect people's speech.
1:37 Actors, TV presenters, public speakers, they often use them to warm up
1:43 and to practise articulating their sounds clearly, ready for their performance.
1:48 And tongue twisters can certainly help you
1:50 to practise and improve your pronunciation as well.
1:54 Regular practice will increase your clarity and articulation of English sounds.
