rip my car...
TechJoyce
0:01 What does that mean?
0:02 I'm scared.
0:03 What does a flashing check engine light mean?
0:05 A flashing check engine light indicates a serious engine problem.
0:08 Most often a severe misfire that can immediately damage your vehicle.
0:12 You pull over and shut down the image as soon as possible.
0:13 Have your vehicle talk to the mechanic and diagn Oh[ __] So one year ago,
0:19 I bought this Honda Civic for $3,000.
0:21 And y'all have seen me cry in this car.
0:23 I face revealed in this car.
0:25 I've slept with this car.
0:27 I've slept in this car.
0:28 I love this car.
0:29 But I don't think it loves me.
0:30 You see, 2 weeks into buying it, the axle shaft snapped.
0:33 Then 6 months in, the head gasket blew.
0:35 And now, 9 months in, the car bogs down every time I accelerate.
0:38 Oh my god.
0:39 I've treated this car with nothing but respect and love.
0:42 And how has the car repaid me?
0:43 By draining my wallet and wasting my time.
0:49 She took my money and my time.
0:50 So, I'm going to try one last time.
0:52 And if I can't fix this car,
0:53 I'm going to cheat on it and start seeing other cars because I know my worth.
0:56 Hey, you hear me?
0:57 I know my worth.
0:58 What do you have to say about that?
1:03 So, basically, if I can't fix this car by the end of this video,
1:05 I'm dropping 100 bands on a beamer.
1:07 Bands on a beamer.
1:08 Bands on a beamer.
1:09 So, let's get to work.
1:12 [music] Now, before I just start wrenching away,
1:15 the first thing I'm going to do is scan the car with what, you might ask?
1:18 Bam.
1:19 This bad boy.
1:20 This is the Top Scan Light.
1:21 It's an OBD2 Bluetooth scanner that is birectional,
1:24 meaning it likes boys and girls.
1:27 Get it?
1:27 cuz it's bi direct.
1:28 Just kidding.
1:28 It means you can read data and send data.
1:30 This thing basically turns your phone into a very powerful scan tool.
1:33 So, let's plug it into my car and see what's wrong with it.
1:36 [music] Now, let's open the app and find autocan.
1:40 This gives you a full system diagnostic report of your car.
1:43 So, my car has three codes.
1:44 Let's check what they are.
1:46 Okay.
1:47 All right.
1:48 So, my car has an oxygen sensor fault code.
1:50 What does this mean?
1:51 Well, I don't have a cat.
1:52 So, to bypass this, I need to install an anti-faller.
1:54 We also have a NOx sensor check engine
1:56 light and an idle control system check engine light.
1:59 If I need any more information,
2:01 I can check the live data such as the engine coolant temperature,
2:03 the intake manifold absolute pressure, the engine RPM, and so much more.
2:07 I'm also able to diagnose many other car brands such as Toyota,
2:10 Chevrolet, Lamborghini.
2:12 And no matter if you're a professional mechanic or a DIYer like me,
2:15 you can get any information or solution using Topfix,
2:18 which is their AI assistant.
2:19 It tells you everything you need before starting a repair,
2:21 such as the tools, the replacement parts, etc.
2:24 With this tool, you're getting professional diagnostic
2:26 functions for a fraction of the price.
2:27 So, if you guys want one for yourself, it'll be linked in the description below.
2:30 And thank you to Topdown for sponsoring this video.
2:32 So, as you guys can see, we have a bunch of codes.
2:34 So, let's break it down.
2:35 First, we have two oxygen sensor codes.
2:37 One is for the downstream sensor, which I don't care about,
2:39 and one is for the upstream sensor, which I need to address.
2:43 Then, we got a knock sensor code.
2:45 This could be a faulty knock sensor,
2:46 or it could be a symptom of another problem.
2:48 And finally, we have the idle control system code.
2:50 Out of these codes, I'm not sure exactly which
2:53 one is causing the engine to bog down because truthfully,
2:56 I've had these codes since June.
2:58 So, that's around six, seven months ago.
3:00 So, basically, I don't know, and I'm just going to fix every single code.
3:04 So, the first thing I'm going to do is replace the idle air
3:06 control valve because this has been a problem for the past 20 million years.
3:10 So, let's get to doing that.
3:11 It's just two bolts here in the back
3:12 and some lines you have to disconnect at the bottom.
3:14 And bam, here's the old idle air control valve.
3:16 And here's me installing the new one.
3:17 And finally, it was done.
3:18 But while I was all up in the engine,
3:20 I noticed that the VTEC solenoid connector wire was broken.
3:23 Now, I'm not sure if this is the cause because my engine box down at low RPMs,
3:26 but regardless, I ordered a new connector on Amazon and the next day it came in.
3:31 Oh my goodness.
3:32 So, unfortunately, the VTEC connector wire is broken.
3:34 I'm not sure if that's the cause of the issue cuz
3:37 I'm pretty sure VTEC only kicks in at like what, 5,000 RPMs.
3:41 Regardless, we still have to fix it.
3:42 I'm just not sure if this is going to solve our problem.
3:44 It's going to be a really wanky setup though cuz I'm
3:46 going to have to crimp it on to the original harness.
3:50 I mean, what else can I really do here?
3:52 So, first I disconnected the battery
3:53 and then started disconnecting the connector.
3:55 That's a tongue twister.
3:56 Mister look like a [cheering] I finally got it off.
4:02 And basically, my solution is going to be crimping
4:04 a connector to the new one and to the old harness.
4:08 There we go.
4:09 Just going to twist this.
4:10 And finally, I crimped it back on to the original harness.
4:12 As you guys can tell, we got one side crimped.
4:14 And now, let's connect this side.
4:18 Okay, that's strong enough.
4:19 Then I heated it up and now we're two fixes done.
4:21 Heated it up, heated it up.
4:23 So, the next thing I did was replace the fuel pump
4:25 because a lot of the symptoms point to a fuel issue.
4:27 The kit I bought came with a new filter, new hoses, and of course, a new pump.
4:30 By the way, we've spent $180 total so far.
4:33 $10 on the VTEC connector, $126 on the idle air control valve,
4:37 and $44 on the fuel pump.
4:38 Now, replacing the fuel pump is pretty easy.
4:40 Just take out the back seat, the fuel pump cover, the electrical connectors,
4:42 and unbolt the fuel pump assembly and replace
4:44 all the parts and reverse the steps.
4:45 And boom, we are done.
4:47 [crying] All right, guys.
4:48 The next thing I'm going to do is check the timing.
4:50 So, I need to take off the valve cover, the cam shaft cover,
4:52 and then turn the engine and make sure it's lined up and everything.
4:55 Hopefully, everything is in time.
4:57 If it's not, I'm just going to throw out this whole entire car.
4:59 Like, I literally don't care anymore.
5:01 Like, this stupid car literally is useless.
5:04 It's old.
5:05 It's not even fast.
5:06 It's slow as[ __] And it's ugly.
5:07 It's ugly.
5:08 So, I started off by taking out the ignition wires and spark plugs.
5:11 It's like one of the, you know, the little juicers you have to go.
5:14 This is what it reminds me of.
5:18 And then it was time to jack up the car.
5:20 But I kind of forgot that my car is too
5:21 low to jack up and I don't have these ramps.
5:23 So, I decided, you know what?
5:24 I'm just going to check the ignition timing,
5:26 even though that has nothing to do with the timing belt, but freak it.
5:29 Let's just do it anyway.
5:29 You attach this thingy to the first spark plug wire.
5:32 And so, now let's attach the timing gun.
5:34 The setup is ready.
5:35 Now, let's start the car.
5:36 Now, bad ignition timing could cause power loss,
5:38 but it would be consistent and not random like the symptoms I have.
5:46 Why is the idle so damn high?
5:48 What does that mean?
5:50 Hold up.
5:50 Hold up.
5:51 Hold up.
5:51 I'm scared.
5:52 What does a flashing check engine light mean?
5:54 A flashing check engine light indicates a serious engine problem.
5:57 Most often, a severe misfire that can immediately damage your vehicle.
6:01 You should pull over and shut down the image as soon as possible.
6:04 Have your vehicle towed to the mechanic for diagn Oh[
6:07 __] So the internet is telling me do not drive it.
6:10 If your engine light is flashing,
6:12 your vehicle is about to explode and you're about
6:13 to die and lose all your kids and your wife.
6:16 [gasps and laughter] Why?
6:18 Why must my car do this to me?
6:20 And then it stopped flashing randomly.
6:22 I'm pretty sure it was because I was in service mode,
6:24 but I don't know why it would flash the first time and not the second time.
6:26 And I I don't even know.
6:27 Sometimes cars don't make sense to me, and that's okay.
6:31 Uh-oh.
6:33 Uh-oh.
6:34 Something is wrong.
6:35 Can you guys hear that?
6:36 Smells like[ __] in here.
6:37 And then when I finally started using the timing gun,
6:40 the marks were nowhere to be seen.
6:42 Hello.
6:42 Something is very wrong here.
6:44 And the only codes it's giving me now are the oxygen sensor codes.
6:47 I don't care.
6:47 Oh my goodness.
6:48 Oh my goodness.
6:49 Oh my goodness.
6:50 [laughter] Oh my goodness.
6:53 [music] Oh my god.
6:59 [laughter and gasps] My coolant.
7:00 Where the is it leaking from, bro?
7:02 Is it leaking from the cap?
7:03 I think it is.
7:04 Yo, I am so sorry to my sponsors,
7:06 but if you guys are wondering why I haven't made a video on your products yet,
7:09 it's cuz the car doesn't even work.
7:11 Half the time I spend on this car is repairing the car.
7:14 I don't even get to drive it.
7:15 I'm just repairing it over and over.
7:17 Just for reference, I put on 2600 km in one year.
7:20 That's like a 7 km drive every single day.
7:22 I take a 5minute spin around the neighborhood and that's it.
7:25 And I don't even want to go back and do the math.
7:26 I know one of you guys could,
7:27 but I've definitely spent thousands of dollars repairing this car.
7:30 Like what is going on with this car?
7:32 Genuinely, I don't know.
7:37 God damn.
7:37 You know what's crazy?
7:38 This car has been so unreliable considering the fact that it's a Honda Civic.
7:42 Mind you, I haven't done any engine modifications to it.
7:45 The only thing I've done is the exhaust, and that doesn't really count.
7:48 And the previous owner did the intake, but that also doesn't really count.
7:50 Like, I literally changed the car's head gasket before I changed the wheels.
7:54 Is that Isn't that crazy?
7:55 Is that Isn't that[ __] insane?
7:56 So, I know in the beginning of this video I said if I can't fix this car,
7:59 I'm buying a Beamer.
8:00 Well, I never specified what method I could use to fix this car.
8:04 I'm going to bring it into a shop.
8:09 So, let me break it down.
8:10 I tow it to the shop.
8:11 They say I'm very hot.
8:12 No, they did not.
8:13 They did not say that.
8:14 But they take it for a drive and the car is somehow alive.
8:15 They say nothing is wrong, but I worked on it so long.
8:17 So, I'm standing there confused, feeling mechanically abused.
8:19 It's like my car's disrespecting me in front of all the dudes.
8:21 Oh my goodness.
8:21 I can't do this.
8:22 So, yeah.
8:22 Basically, the car started randomly working,
8:24 but the second I bring it home, it stops working again.
8:27 So, I tow it back to the shop and finally we found the problem.
8:30 So, obviously, the knock sensor and the upstream oxygen sensor code
8:33 came back on, so I got them to replace those parts.
8:35 I had my own knock sensor, so I just gave it to him.
8:37 But the O2 sensor they ordered for me, and boy, what the hell, boy.
8:41 But that's what happens when you bring it into a shop.
8:42 You kind of just got to eat the costs.
8:44 And then there were some things like cracks
8:45 in my hoses that were causing a vacuum leak.
8:47 But overall, the total came out to $57344.
8:53 Oh my god.
8:54 Oh jeez.
9:02 So, as y'all can see, idol is looking beautiful.
9:04 Car is driving fine.
9:05 Everything is amazing.
9:06 And then when I brought it home, I noticed that the head gasket was leaking.
9:12 Oh my god.
9:13 Oh my god.
9:13 Oh my god.
9:14 Oh my god.
9:19 [music] [music]
