9:44 TSN 1050 on the TSN app.

9:46 Your home smart speaker up on TSN 4 up on YouTube live.

9:50 Brian Hayes, the OD dog, Jeff O'Neal, Jamie Noodles, Mcclennen,

9:55 what's going on today?

9:57 What's going on,

9:58 boys?

9:59 I have a social media announcement.

10:02 I am now going to move forward as a nonusing Twitter member.

10:09 I've I'm done.

10:10 You're out.

10:10 What does that mean?

10:11 I see you're replying to a lot of people.

10:13 I mean, you're really active on there.

10:17 Wolf.

10:17 Wolf Blitzer and others.

10:18 I mentioned to Wolfie that he changes jerseys every year.

10:23 I'm just so fatigued with egg avatars and puppet

10:29 avatars and and just people with stupid thing.

10:32 I can't do it anymore.

10:34 I'm just going to watch in the background like noodles.

10:38 There's going to be nothing coming out of my like

10:40 I don't mean Jamie like you're Jamie you just you once in a while background

10:46 once in a while you'll say like happy birthday to this guy.

10:50 Yes.

10:50 or you know twice a year.

10:52 I I don't I I'm too old.

10:54 I I can't do it with with the nonsense.

10:59 I like idiot.

10:59 The idiot today.

11:01 Here we go.

11:01 The idiot today.

11:03 Yeah.

11:03 Was saying Hayes and OD Dog are such Toronto homers.

11:08 I don't know why they have a mic or how they have a mic.

11:11 They always say that Toronto is a better hockey city than Montre.

11:15 And I just looked at it and I'm like, that's it.

11:17 That's it.

11:18 you.

11:18 That was the That was the strongest.

11:20 That's the one that put you over the edge.

11:22 Pulls back.

11:22 I can't do it.

11:24 I wrote back and I said, "Show,

11:26 show me." We have been praising the vibe in Montreal.

11:30 We have always said the Bell Center is the best spot to watch a hockey game,

11:35 to play a hockey game because two of the three of us have done it.

11:41 Not like these donkeys on I've just I'm done.

11:43 I'm a non.

11:44 All right.

11:45 I think you'll be back cuz I've heard that from someone before

11:48 who claimed they were leaving and then they just happen to be,

11:52 you know, lurking around and Okay,

11:54 I'm out.

11:54 Do you want to start the clock when I come back?

11:57 I think it's within I think it's by the time

11:59 the first ball goes up in the air at the PGA Championship.

12:02 That would be my guess.

12:04 No way, dude.

12:05 No way.

12:05 Do you want to have like a pool?

12:06 Do you want to have like an OD dog social media pool?

12:09 It's done forever.

12:10 It's done forever.

12:11 No, it's not.

12:12 There's no chance it is.

12:13 I know you mean there's no chance.

12:15 I know you too well.

12:16 I What?

12:17 What's going to What's going to make me lick my lips and say I'm chiming in

12:22 there?

12:22 For starters, you'll just you'll blank you

12:25 you'll you'll blank out and just start tweeting

12:27 and then try to delete it or something

12:30 like that's probably what's going to happen.

12:32 And you're also really good on social media.

12:34 Like I I laugh half the stuff I laugh at because

12:39 people don't understand your sense of humor.

12:41 I still to this day when I mention it, I start laughing.

12:44 Do you remember when Patrick Kane had like

12:46 the an unbelievable game and you were like,

12:48 "Patrick Kane just made the the Canadian Olympic team.

12:51 You were being a smartass." I thought it was brilliant.

12:54 I laughed out loud when I read it and I read your reply and people were like,

12:58 "He's American, you idiot.

12:59 Buffalo like Wolf Blitzer." I thought it was the greatest thing ever.

13:03 People don't understand your sense of humor and I

13:06 I know.

13:06 But Jamie, I just I I I can't do it.

13:09 We got you.

13:10 You guys know my You guys know my philosophy on social media.

13:14 I think you could only tweet if your name

13:17 and your pick and what your job is so you're held accountable.

13:21 I'm just tired of the trolls in their basement.

13:23 I can't I didn't think that

13:25 Ryan Burke said it about the NHL.

13:28 I'm saying it about Twitter.

13:30 The rats have taken over and I'm Is that right?

13:33 Just now it wasn't always the case the last 15 years.

13:37 No, I just Hey, I just had a moment but I was stuck.

13:39 I I I stuck in traffic and I I just said

13:44 I'm too old to to even be looking at these donkeyy's comments.

13:47 I got I got a great life, a great family.

13:50 Yeah, but here's the thing.

13:52 I don't need this.

13:53 Here's the thing.

13:53 What did you just You squeeze in.

13:54 I'm a great golfer.

13:55 Is that the last comment you made?

13:58 That's an absurd You just ran through his like kids, great golfer.

14:06 Like just keep going.

14:08 What else do you have?

14:09 If I come up with anything else, great suits, all of it.

14:13 You got it all.

14:14 You've got it all going.

14:15 Here's the thing.

14:15 The large majority of people, you know, you're interacting.

14:19 You're looking for different um you know,

14:22 commentary based on what we're saying on the air.

14:24 And I think it's great.

14:26 I I don't recall I saw that tweet because I saw you respond to the guy.

14:29 I don't remember us ever like I have said Toronto is

14:34 the epicenter of the hockey world and I believe that in large part

14:38 because of minor le minor hockey and I've said this many times

14:41 before the greatest minor hockey community in the world is in Toronto.

14:45 It's not close like the the amount of people

14:48 that live in this city and that live in southern Ontario.

14:51 It's just it it's way bigger than Montreal.

14:53 It's bigger than Vancouver.

14:55 That's just a reality.

14:56 The Leafs are on hockey night for a reason because they get the highest ratings.

15:00 But the Bell Center is second to none and it always has been.

15:03 It always will be.

15:04 And let's No, but I'll take it a step further.

15:06 It is number one.

15:07 But let's let's clarify something else.

15:10 Scotia Bank isn't two.

15:11 The Leafs aren't the second ticket you want to see for a lively event.

15:15 They're not even in the top 10 probably.

15:17 It's a great point you brought that up because you look at the difference

15:22 that Buffalo game and then you transfer

15:24 right over the Bell Center within two days.

15:29 Amazing.

15:28 Those two buildings were the roofs were coming off and you're excited about it.

15:32 And you're right, Scotia Bank.

15:34 Now you have to give them something to cheer about.

15:37 Yes.

15:37 And but we've been there.

15:38 We've been in the building.

15:40 Hayes, when's the last time you said this?

15:42 Was it against Washington

15:44 when Matthew scored the banker off the glass where he I think he tied it late?

15:48 That was game six late,

15:50 right?

15:50 Like the building can get rocky.

15:52 You can hear it explode.

15:54 Let me ask him an excuse to do it.

15:56 If one of Keith Py's missions,

15:58 God knows I hope he doesn't have a presser about it if it is,

16:02 but is there any chance, Hayes,

16:05 and you've been going to games since you were a kid, and so have I.

16:09 Is there any chance that changing then I

16:12 know Shanny brought was brought to his attention.

16:14 He tried to do things with the the the you know the volume

16:18 of the music and you're not going outside to blow darts and whatever it is.

16:24 Could they ever make it an atmosphere that could enter

16:27 and venture up into the top 10 in the league?

16:29 Could they ever do it?

16:30 But the answer is no.

16:32 Here's here's a crazy answer for you.

16:35 I think the team has to win.

16:38 No, dude.

16:39 I know.

16:39 But I'm talking about people getting up and cheering and yelling.

16:43 But here's why I don't think it happens.

16:45 Okay, I had a candid off thereord conversation

16:49 with someone that doesn't play for the Leafs, plays for another team,

16:53 happens to play actually for one of these teams we've just talked about.

16:57 And he said that you can feel it in the building when the Leafs,

17:03 you know, give up a goal, when the Leafs are down.

17:06 He's like it it is a tangible feeling and I think it it just it's a part

17:11 of the history of the fan base that there's

17:14 always this concern that they're not going to win,

17:17 you know, because they haven't won in literally

17:19 a lifetime for the majority of the fans, right?

17:22 So, what I mean by that is it's

17:24 like whenever they put a cast of characters together,

17:27 whether it's next year, 5 years from now, 20,

17:30 50 years from now, when they win,

17:33 I think after that, you can expect people to breathe

17:38 and it to be ruckus and it to be crazy.

17:40 I just don't know if it's possible to expect

17:42 it with the combination of the ticket pricing, the clientele that's down there.

17:48 Uh but it is a reasonable question that may

17:51 the president and CEO is probably responsible for.

17:54 How do you make it the best possible experience?

17:58 I I don't know if you can I think it would be a dumb question.

18:00 It would be like it's not happening.

18:02 So well I I think it's it's somewhere in between.

18:05 And hear me out on this.

18:06 I I agree.

18:07 You have to have win you have to win to have people get

18:10 excited to sit in your seats and have it sitting there in warm-up,

18:14 not just, you know, five minutes into the game.

18:16 all of that type of stuff, but also the ticket prices for the people

18:21 that are most visible in that lower lower bull.

18:24 These are, you know,

18:26 these are very wealthy people and and they may not act like that.

18:30 They're not like our buddies.

18:31 I have buddies that are goons that'll show up and be

18:35 have 10 beers before they get on the train to come down.

18:37 All of that type of stuff.

18:39 They're not getting those seats.

18:40 So, I I think it's the chicken or the egg.

18:42 somewhere in between.

18:43 If you've got winning hockey or winning atmosphere,

18:47 ask the people that the Raptors, look at that.

18:51 Raptors, an incredible vibe.

18:52 Blue Jays during the playoffs was a phenomenal crowd.

18:55 Like phenomenal crowd.

18:57 And the Leafs in the playoffs are a great crowd.

18:59 Like you played there in O2.

19:00 It was it it was amazing.

19:02 And it still is when they get to the playoffs.

19:04 You just the 82 the 41 leading up to it.

19:07 It's crazy.

19:07 But also,

19:08 I'm curious like I'd like to ask each individual like a if you were tasked if

19:13 you sat down and somebody said you've got

19:16 to make the vibe better in the building,

19:18 what would the answer be?

19:19 You'd probably have no answer.

19:20 Let me think on it.

19:21 But the reality is it's the history of the city.

19:23 The like the Bell comparing it to the Bell Center Montreal is

19:26 just you can't I mean that's just in their DNA in Montreal.

19:30 You know who's building you know who's building rocks?

19:33 Carolina.

19:34 Well, do they still do the standing up until the first whistle kind of thing?

19:38 And I go, I created that.

19:41 You created that personally.

19:44 You asked them to stay on their feet until the first whistle.

19:47 It's just something that happened organically 92 had a big hit,

19:51 they would sit down.

19:52 A trail.

19:53 Oh, he lied.

19:54 All right.

19:54 Well, we got a source with us right

19:56 now that could probably confirm or deny that.

19:58 Who's your former teammate,

19:59 the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, Rob Bindore.

20:03 Can you confirm that, Rod that the Odog personally created

20:06 the history of fans and the reaction down at Carolina?

20:11 Well, I can't deny it.

20:12 I mean, you know, I I think Oh, had listen had something to do with it.

20:16 The start, it has to start somewhere.

20:19 Has to start somewhere.

20:20 So, I give him a lot of credit.

20:21 Uh, crowd was a little different back then, but that was the starting of it.

20:26 So, yes, I say he had a hand in it.

20:29 Rody, I got to ask you, bud, and please give me the answer.

20:31 I want to hear.

20:32 You've swept two series.

20:34 After one of the series sweep, did you crush a cold beer?

20:39 Just one.

20:39 Did you have one beer?

20:42 No, I didn't.

20:43 I don't.

20:43 I'm not a beer drinker, but I would have if I liked it.

20:46 I just I just I think that stuff tastes like junk.

20:49 So, I don't I don't I don't drink.

20:50 I know I'm disappointing you, but we Listen, you know, your buddy JD did.

20:55 So, he had one for me for sure.

20:57 All right.

20:58 Let me just say, I know you gave the guys two days off for me.

21:01 Don't murder them when you guys come back on the ice.

21:04 All right?

21:04 Cuz I know you and you're going to say, "Okay, you guys want two days off.

21:08 Now it's Rod's time.

21:09 Please don't do that for me." No.

21:12 The good part is we just had uh the exact

21:15 same thing happen and we we ran the exact same plan.

21:18 We took a couple days off.

21:19 I I never murder the guys.

21:21 They they don't need it.

21:22 They don't need it.

21:23 you know, they know how to take care of themselves and so we're

21:26 not at that time of year to be doing any of that anyway.

21:28 So, it's about rest and then obviously, you know,

21:31 we got to crank it up at the right time.

21:34 So, Rod, take us through the last couple series here for you guys

21:37 because you look like a welloiled machine right from the goalender right out.

21:40 You got four lines rolling, all six of your deer chipping in.

21:44 Like, is it just something where you feel

21:45 like everybody's kind of pulling on the rope

21:47 and everybody's kind of on the same page

21:49 and that's why you're able to have this success?

21:53 Yeah, I mean look, the margins are tight.

21:55 All these games are a play here or there

21:57 or a save here or there that we're getting them.

22:00 You know, like that's probably been the difference.

22:02 You know, you look at the goalending.

22:03 I mean, our guys played as good, if not better than the other guy.

22:06 And the other guy at the other end, both series have been phenomenal.

22:09 And so, we've had to have that.

22:10 Otherwise, it probably looks a little different.

22:13 But right now, that's I think the biggest difference.

22:16 I think our play has been good.

22:18 Like up front and all that.

22:20 We're doing okay.

22:21 doing what we need to do, but the big difference is we're getting a key

22:24 save at the at the at any crucial time,

22:27 and that's allowing us to just keep playing.

22:30 Rody, I know you don't like pumping your own tires,

22:32 but you've talked to anybody about the Carolina Hurricanes.

22:35 Obviously, one of the first comments that come out of their mouth,

22:38 including myself, it's they're extremely well coached,

22:41 and that's a feather in your cap.

22:43 Like if Rod Brindmore was a fan, watching you on the bench and your team,

22:48 like what would you look for or what would show you that the team

22:51 is kind of well coached or or playing according to the game plan?

22:57 Well, number one, you know, you know,

22:59 the staff we have is these guys are awesome and we're well prepared.

23:03 Chris Huffine's our video coach.

23:05 You know, I you want to pump tires of anyone,

23:07 that's the guy that just there's nothing that we don't haven't seen.

23:10 So, our players are prepared.

23:12 Um, and then at the end of the day,

23:14 if you're looking for, for me, it's like we always say,

23:17 if I can watch a team play,

23:19 if you know what they're doing in the first 10 minutes,

23:21 that's a well coached team.

23:23 If you can't figure out what they're doing,

23:25 then it's like, I don't that's probably not.

23:27 So, generally, like, no, honestly, you can pre-scout a team.

23:31 Okay.

23:31 Yep.

23:32 Here's what they're doing.

23:32 And they do it over and over and over, and then they you got to stop it when

23:36 it's kind of I don't know what they're doing,

23:38 which there's not many teams like that anymore.

23:40 There was eight years ago when I first started this, there was a lot

23:43 more of that where it was we go through the pre-cout and go,

23:47 "Well, I can't really tell you what they're doing." That doesn't happen anymore.

23:50 The coaching's gotten better and better and better.

23:52 But that that's to me how how I kind of grade it.

23:57 It's interesting you say that like the the first 10 minutes because, you know,

24:00 I think you guys have gotten um a ton

24:03 of credit as you deserve for closing out games.

24:07 Like every game is a lowscoring tight checking game.

24:10 Like are you are you telling us I guess you're preaching the last

24:14 10 minutes the same thing you were preaching the first 10 minutes.

24:16 Yeah, that's what I mean.

24:17 It should look the same.

24:18 So if you whatever you watch the game in the first 10 minutes,

24:21 it should look the same at the end.

24:23 It shouldn't be all of a sudden now have to be different.

24:25 So um and that's I think generally how we play.

24:28 I mean I I give our guys a lot of credit because right now what it is is

24:31 I think we've been around the block a few

24:34 times and you know if we're up a goal great.

24:36 if we're down a goal, it's not great,

24:38 but that we're not going to suddenly change everything we're doing.

24:42 And and it's worked.

24:43 So that's why we've been through so many

24:45 times where you don't have to, you know,

24:47 invent the wheel and um goes a lot to say with we do have good leadership.

24:52 I I I can't say it enough when you have guys

24:54 in there that just get it and it just filters down, right?

24:58 And over the years, everybody we brought in, we still kept the core

25:02 group of guys that get how to play and that gives you a chance.

25:05 It doesn't guarantee anything.

25:06 Obviously, we still haven't reached that final step,

25:09 but we got a chance every night, that play, and that's all really you can ask.

25:15 So, Rod, you talk about your leadership group.

25:16 Are there times where you feel like, you know,

25:19 your intensity either behind the bench or from the coach's office,

25:23 there would be times either you want to go in, give them a jolt,

25:26 or you just allow your leadership core to take over and and and manage the room.

25:31 Are there certain things that you have to balance and say, "Hey,

25:34 my leaders can do that or I need to go and give the fire poker to somebody."

25:40 Yeah, I haven't had to do too much of that.

25:43 Um because we have good leaders,

25:45 but there's times where you got to get get

25:47 on them a little or I haven't had to that much.

25:50 That's the thing, the beauty of this group.

25:51 We just don't have to do that very often.

25:54 So, you know, um but yeah,

25:56 there's times and you get a little emotional back there.

25:58 That's more get trying to fire the guys up than it is anything else.

26:01 So, you got to kind of know how to do that, get a feel for it.

26:04 But again, we have such a good group.

26:06 I don't I don't really have to do that very often.

26:09 With Rod Brymore, head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes.

26:12 We were discussing yesterday, you know,

26:15 some of these defenseman that are still playing,

26:17 you know, the Hudsons and the Quinn Hughes and Mar and Dalene.

26:22 And uh we we mentioned Slavven in the same group and and he

26:25 he doesn't play the same way as maybe those other guys,

26:28 but he's he's equally as effective.

26:31 You get to see him every night.

26:33 You've seen him his whole career.

26:35 um to the average fan, I don't know if they would pick up on, you know,

26:38 his greatness and and how he, you know, affects a game,

26:40 but how what do you see out of him during

26:44 the play that allows you to trust him the way you do

26:47 and have the faith that he's going to pull it off

26:49 every night because he seems to do it every single game,

26:52 right?

26:53 Well, there's another guy just is the same every night,

26:56 every practice, every day.

26:58 What you see, I mean, it's an elite defensive mind.

27:01 And I think really what it is is there's certain players that process

27:04 the game and I and that's probably something we have to start

27:08 doing better as like when you're scouting people like everyone can kind

27:12 of see the talent you might have but how are you processing the game?

27:15 He's two steps ahead of everything.

27:17 And so that's what makes him great.

27:19 Like he he knows where the puck's going.

27:21 He knows if he sees a breakout or whatever coming at him.

27:24 Okay, they're doing this.

27:25 So he's already he's ahead.

27:27 He knows where the puck's going.

27:28 That helps him.

27:29 and he, you know, obviously has talent, but the way he thinks the game is,

27:33 uh, at at an elite level and, you know, you just look at the ice time that he

27:38 gets on like the penalty kill, for example,

27:40 I don't know what that's worth, you know, what he does for us in that regard.

27:46 It's like a guy scoring a power play goal every time.

27:48 I mean, it's, you know, it's insane.

27:50 So, he's that valuable to us.

27:53 Rody, how good's that Taylor Hall been?

27:55 He looks like he's full of piss and vinegar out there.

27:57 He's running over guys.

27:58 He's been like a real bright spot.

28:00 I haven't It's not that I've ever seen him like play poorly,

28:03 but it's it's and I know he's won a heart trophy,

28:05 but it's like some of the most effective hockey I've seen him play.

28:10 Yeah.

28:10 No, you're hitting it right on the head there.

28:11 That that I did not know what we were going to get when he kind of showed up.

28:15 You know, he was in Chicago there and, you know, you're not really I mean,

28:20 to be honest, you're not watching those guys play

28:23 much and you kind of lose track of players.

28:25 and he showed up on the scene and the ability was all still there

28:29 like he could I was like damn this guy can he's a great player

28:32 and and be honest what's been the best thing is he he's doing other things

28:37 than just you know here you show him hitting you know trying to be physical and

28:41 I don't know that that was necessarily in his game um his play away

28:45 from the puck has been elite really it's taken on another level so he's

28:49 trying to do those things of course he's a playmaker and skate and score

28:53 and you see that But it's all the other little things that he's doing,

28:57 I think, that probably impresses me the most.

29:01 What do you see in uh Montreal and Buffalo that, you know,

29:04 I know you don't know who you're going to play yet,

29:06 but um they're both young, speedy,

29:09 kind of highscoring teams or have that ability anyway.

29:12 Um would kind of challenge two of the better teams in the league.

29:16 Yeah, two of the better teams in the league.

29:17 I mean, obviously, pick your poison on that for me.

29:20 I mean, that's, you know, you kind of hope, you know,

29:23 that they just beat each other up a little and maybe

29:26 have a few nicks and bruises when they get to us,

29:28 but um yeah, I mean, it's it's it's a fun series to watch.

29:34 And I'd like to see what is it, four more games or whatever they got.

29:37 That'd be nice if they stretch this out.

29:39 I mean, we got to wait anyway.

29:41 We might as well, you know, take as much of the advantage as we could on it.

29:45 But it you got a great Both teams are great.

29:48 They are.

29:48 They they uh have talent like you said and they're

29:51 going to be good for a long time to come.

29:53 They're just kind of getting in their window I think.

29:56 Rody, thanks a lot for doing this today.

29:58 But before we get you out of here,

30:00 I just want to know that we used

30:01 to have our Monday Night Football picks, me and you.

30:04 Even though you never paid up when I won,

30:07 I'd like to rekindle that in in the fall.

30:10 So when you come to Tro Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.

30:14 You're saying I owe you,

30:15 buddy?

30:15 You know how many times I won on Monday nights and you never paid?

30:18 All the time.

30:19 So I'll forget about it.

30:22 Hey, listen.

30:23 All the times I I talk about you.

30:25 You're going to throw shade at me now.

30:27 You're going to drop a bomb like that.

30:29 No.

30:30 No.

30:30 Well, I want to re I want to rekindle it in the fall.

30:33 I want to rekindle it in the fall.

30:35 Whatever.

30:35 I'm in.

30:36 But we're even for coming on the show.

30:38 How about that?

30:39 Exactly.

30:40 That's the price tag.

30:41 You're even moving forward.

30:42 There you go.

30:43 Thanks, Rody.

30:44 Good luck in the next round.

30:45 Thanks, Rod.

30:46 Thank you.

30:46 See you.

30:47 There he is.

30:47 Rod Bindmore, head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes.

30:51 That's uh that's good stuff though, man.

30:53 Like that.

30:53 I hadn't heard it that way before.

30:55 Like watch us the first 10 minutes.

30:56 Like that's who we are, you know?

30:58 Dude, pretty simple.

30:59 And what do you think some of the Maple

31:00 Leaf stuff that we've watched over the last couple years?

31:03 Like it's just like uh well what what are we all looking at?

31:10 Exactly.

31:09 But look at look at the guy.

31:10 He comes on our show with a cap.

31:12 Like what you see is what you get from Rod Brenammore.

31:15 So if you play for him, there's no BS.

31:18 Like there is no like I don't I I think he's a great coach,

31:22 but he's a motivator and he doesn't do anything

31:25 or ask anybody to do something that he wouldn't do.

31:27 Dude, he's an animal Jamie.

31:29 There was a We got beat out of the playoffs and I had a late night.

31:38 Excuse me.

31:39 Yeah.

31:39 And I come in the dressing room to talk to Paul Maurice

31:43 and I am basically in Lieutenant Dan mode.

31:46 Like I'm dying walking down the hallway.

31:49 Okay.

31:50 Yeah.

31:50 I'm in a wheelchair like Lieutenant Dan.

31:54 Yeah.

31:53 And Rody has got no tarp on doing chin-ups.

31:57 And I just looked at him and I go, "Rotty,

31:59 we like this is day one of the off season.

32:02 Why are you in here?" He's like, "Ah,

32:04 you know, I missed some time with my ankle.

32:05 I got to get ready for the next like that's what we're talking about here.

32:08 the next day at 8 in the morning that I I why I wanted to point that out

32:12 is we talk about all the noise anywhere in pick

32:16 an organization a lot of times the coach sets the culture

32:20 or your leadership group sets the culture in the room you

32:24 hear stories of how Charo was exactly like the char

32:27 goes this is how we do things in Boston Rod Brendeore

32:30 guaranteed now I know there's Tulski above him Tyler Delow

32:34 smart people around him all of that but Rod Brendmore goes

32:36 runs the Carolina hurricane this is how we're

32:39 going to do it in my dressing room.

32:41 To me, these are things that are very important to an organization.

32:44 And Jamie, just hearing him talk and and talk so highly

32:48 of his colleagues and his staff and you just mentioned some of the executives,

32:53 like do you see how simplified it is?

32:55 That's why I wonder like sometimes in Toronto and I get it.

32:59 Brian talked about it as being the biggest hockey market in the world.

33:02 It it is, but does there really need to be all of this and all of that?

33:07 Why not just like simplify it and just

33:10 and I know they brought in Matts who's an unbelievable

33:12 guy and he's a great hockey mind and I

33:14 know that he can make a positive contribution.

33:17 John Chica, it's going to be a wait and see approach,

33:20 but why is there all this other stuff?

33:22 I'm sure if you sat down with the Carolina Hurricanes,

33:24 their their coaching staff and their brass or whatever,

33:27 and you gave them the list of all the people on the staff for the Maple Leafs,

33:30 they would almost be in shock.

33:34 Shock.

33:33 Well, yeah.

33:34 And I've been asked about that myself where getting compared compared

33:38 to Carolina is it's like an insult and that's because of Dundon, right?

33:44 The owner who now has gone to Portland and no one can

33:47 stay in hotels and no fans aren't getting shirts at playoff games.

33:50 And you know that gets brought up a lot, but the idea of replicating or trying

33:56 to replicate the success of the Carolina Hurricanes

33:59 is not an insult at all.

34:01 I mean, that makes a lot of sense.

34:03 As long as you're going about it the right way where right

34:07 if you're looking at it, if you're Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment saying, "Hey,

34:10 we could do this really cheaply," then it's not going to work for you.

34:14 Like it it just it doesn't feel like it

34:16 because you're not getting Brenda Moore up here, right?

34:18 And they they've got the head start.

34:19 They've got the AOS and the Fetchnikovs

34:21 and the Slavvens and like all those guys are there.

34:24 You don't have the same team, but I I'm I'm with you.

34:28 Like the idea of streamlining stuff because you

34:31 think it's more efficient as opposed to more cheap.

34:34 That's what's important to take from Carolina

34:37 because they're a welloiled machine.

34:38 Like they they're they play really well every single night.

34:42 100%.

34:43 Brian, the one thing I've heard from inside

34:45 and outside the Toronto Maple Leafs organization is listen,

34:49 they they they care.

34:50 They want to treat their players.

34:52 You hear about it first class, all of that type of stuff.

34:54 Oh, you lived it.

34:55 We see it from the outside.

34:56 We get it.

34:57 But they've got so many people there, lots of cooks in the kitchen.

35:01 It's paralysis by overanalysis sometimes.

35:04 And I think sometimes you've got to just simplify and go take a look at this.

35:09 And and maybe that's what Keith Py's trying to do.

35:11 singular vision this this and this you need help

35:14 and this it's hard to compare Carolina to Toronto because it's

35:18 a massive the markets are different the business is different

35:22 but like you said o the game is still the game

35:26 that you they go out and play 200 like the ice is

35:28 the same size all of that type of stuff we look throughout

35:31 the league right now and you

35:33 could actually compare organization to organization does

35:37 Colorado have all of the resources that the Maple Leafs They probably do,

35:42 probably don't, but it's it's more of a singular

35:44 vision or maybe a little bit more than Carolina,

35:47 but a lot less than Toronto.

35:49 Colorado looks pretty damn good.

35:50 Man, are they good watching them last night?

35:53 They are and and I said to a buddy of mine this afternoon,

35:57 I said, you look at some of the teams that are sitting at home

36:00 watching or or going to that Minnesota is a hell of a team.

36:03 They're going to go down the Colorado now.

36:06 It might be five.

36:07 Well, it sounds like Erikson and who who is it Baldi

36:10 or somebody else is is out like which is concerning but again

36:15 broadine sorry Broaddin but at the end

36:17 of the day like there's a lot of good teams

36:19 a lot of good organizations that are sitting at home

36:22 watching and and only one team gets to win.

36:26 So you've got to get that standard going.

36:28 I think the Leafs got lots of work to do

36:29 but it doesn't mean you can't have the right vision,

36:33 the right people working it.

36:35 Yeah.

36:35 Well, we'll see if they do in the end, right?

36:37 Like they we'll see what they end up doing.

36:39 Yeah.

36:40 Um All right.

36:40 We've got MJ coming up today.

36:42 Confirm with deny later this afternoon.

36:44 Jay's back in action after a loss last night.

36:47 Get into that.

36:48 PJ Championship Maroy not looking great.

36:50 We'll give you an update on what Rory's dealing with.

36:52 Overdrive continues up on YouTube live.

40:54 the PGA Championship on TSN and TSN Plus.

41:03 Now, back to Overdrive with Hayes, Noodles, and the OD Dog.

41:11 All right, Overdrive continues, powered by FanDuel,

41:14 bringing you more ways to play your game your way.

41:16 Mike Johnson in about a half an hour.

41:18 We might have some uh captaincy conflicts

41:22 to deal with at the World Championship.

41:24 No, there's not.

41:25 No, there's not.

41:25 You don't strip the C off the kid after just giving it to him.

41:28 And Sydney Crosby knows that and he will demand that he keeps the C.

41:34 Okay.

41:34 You think so?

41:35 Sydney Crosby no letter.

41:37 Imagine Sid over there with no letter.

41:38 They'll give him another A.

41:40 They'll give him another A.

41:41 I mean I Cibbrini is a respectful kid.

41:45 I guarantee you he goes give him the 100%.

41:48 That's what I would say.

41:49 That's the play.

41:50 Not that he's not captain material.

41:52 I just think Cabbrini would give way to Sydney and go, I'm sorry.

41:56 I'm not

41:57 Let's talk about this.

41:58 Sydney Crosby's 38 years old, correct?

42:01 Why is he going to the Worlds?

42:03 Who cares?

42:03 He's a Canadian legend.

42:05 He loves playing games.

42:06 He's disgusted that his season's over.

42:08 It's crazy, right?

42:10 He is going to say it's time for the kid to gain experience.

42:13 I'm not.

42:14 You named him the C and I'm not coming over and we're not taking it from him.

42:18 We're not doing that to him.

42:19 I'm going to wear the A this year.

42:21 That's what's going to happen.

42:22 I think you're right that that'll be Sid's approach.

42:25 And I think Noodles is right that CBrini is going to be like,

42:28 I can't possibly be the C with this guy on the team.

42:31 I already know the conversation that's going to happen.

42:33 Sid's going to say, "I want to take you out for lunch.

42:35 We're going to have a couple beers and we got to have

42:37 a chat." And he's going to say just like Billy Hayes said to you,

42:41 "It's son, it's your time now.

42:44 Go get the mic." What?

42:45 He did.

42:46 Yes, he did.

42:46 He did do that.

42:47 But he It's your time now.

42:49 I don't know.

42:50 I I think uh listen, ultimately it doesn't really matter.

42:53 And it's it's a a testament to how they feel about CBrini.

42:56 And I think it'd be very cool if Sid just fact that Sid's going is Yeah.

43:00 Why is

43:02 crazier than McKinnon with the flippers in the pool to me?

43:05 Like Sid is 38 years old.

43:08 Yeah.

43:08 Friday, I guarantee you Malabrini skates out on the ice with the seat.

43:12 Yeah.

43:12 Okay.

43:13 I I think you're probably right.

43:14 I' I'd say I'd say there's a high percentage of that.

43:17 I don't think it's 100%.

43:19 Because he may be adamant.

43:20 I just I feel he may feel awkward.

43:22 Like honestly, that's Sydney Crosby.

43:24 Like we were just at the Olympic Games and the guy

43:27 want to was obviously wearing the wearing the sea at that point.

43:31 But it's pretty cool that Sid's going at at his age.

43:34 After playing in the playoffs, he's still going.

43:37 That that's huge.

43:38 And I mean, I it's always fun to watch the World Championships,

43:41 but the idea of Sid and Celibbrini both there together uh very very cool.

43:46 So, we'll we'll get to that.

43:48 There's uh we got to touch on the Jays

43:50 and their their game tonight and what happened last night where Vlad's at.

43:54 And Gossman had a rough go.

43:56 Yeah, he's 0 for four again last night and they're 41 games into the season now.

44:00 Like I said on Jay last night, I was just spitting facts like he's in a bad

44:05 place and he's really struggling and the amount

44:08 of people you talk about social media like did we forget what he did last year.

44:12 I'm like yes I get what he did last year.

44:14 It's not the World Series anymore.

44:17 Like this you turn the page if this is the major leagues man.

44:20 You roll the season over and you are expected to do it every single night.

44:25 Like that that's the reality when you're the man.

44:28 You have high expectations.

44:30 If you don't want to be the man, then don't be the man.

44:32 But if you're going to make $500 million and be on the face of the team,

44:36 then high expectations are going to apply to you.

44:38 And don't forget, he had a great world

44:40 like playoffs like stud like out of world performance,

44:44 but last year he hit 23 homers.

44:46 Yeah.

44:46 Like this, he hasn't had an extra base hit in a long long time.

44:51 And he is fighting it right now.

44:53 And he is an easy out.

44:54 That's the reality.

44:55 They're pitching him.

44:56 They're not even pitching him that.

44:57 It's easy for me to say,

44:59 but they know he's gonna go chase it and he's trying to pull everything.

45:01 He's trying to hit home runs and it's not working for him.

45:04 Could be worse.

45:05 The big dumper Cal Raleigh is 0 for his last 34.

45:10 The big dumper big dumper is

45:14 Yeah, you talk about a falloff after what he did last year.

45:18 He is struggling right now.

45:20 Um, but I wanted to get uh your take on this Frank Survelli

45:24 report where Frank reporting that the Edmonton Oilers called up Vegas and said,

45:29 "Hey, we'd like to have a chat with Bruce Cassidy."

45:31 I think it's classless, man.

45:33 And Vegas, I guess, withheld permission, whatever that means.

45:38 But who cares about what Vegas does,

45:40 but why would you not like if you're going to do that?

45:43 Like,

45:44 fire Chris Knoblock.

45:45 the guy took your team to two finals

45:48 and turned it around and you do that to him.

45:52 Like, I get it.

45:52 This is cutthroat business and sometimes there's a guy you

45:55 want and there's a guy you need and some things happen, but how classless is it?

46:00 If you're going to do that, have some class and fire the guy.

46:03 That's disgusting.

46:04 He starts I thought you meant classes of Vegas saying no.

46:07 I think Vegas could do whatever the hell they want.

46:10 That's a strange play though.

46:11 You you fired the guy with games left and you're like,

46:13 "No, withholding permission." That gets serious.

46:17 The one thing that like I I agree they need three new

46:23 players and a new coach because if you look at it systematically,

46:27 they they ran up against the wall.

46:29 They got dismantled.

46:30 And to me, at some point, the either what what blame is on Stan Bowman, Jamie,

46:36 like when does like he put the players together.

46:39 Yeah, but it doesn't matter if the players aren't executing a system.

46:42 The the coach has uh has the the hammer.

46:46 He has he says you got to play this way.

46:47 You got to do something.

46:48 How big a hammer can you have with 29 and 97 on your team?

46:53 Well, I mean, both of them were hurt in the playoffs, but I'm saying like

46:56 No, but I mean, as far like system and everything, they kind of I don't know.

47:00 I think they kind of run the show as like we're going out there and we're

47:03 going to firewagon it and get us the puck and and they're the best at it.

47:07 that that the you know what you need is a coach that holds them accountable.

47:10 John Tordella's holding holding people in Vegas accountable.

47:14 Jamie, I just think it's bizarre though how they went to two

47:17 Stanley Cup finals and then all of a sudden it's this guy.

47:19 I I like the guy.

47:20 I like Chris Knoblock too,

47:22 but I have Do you not see that they like systematically regressed?

47:26 There was no adjustments.

47:28 Like that's the one thing their their penalty kill was 50% in the playoffs.

47:32 Yes, there McDavid was hurt.

47:34 all these things.

47:34 But to me, at some point, something has to change there.

47:38 It's easier to change the coach than it is to fire the players.

47:41 We've talked I'll tell you what, if you keep

47:43 the same players and you don't make improvements,

47:45 and the same two goalies are going in the net,

47:47 you're not you could have two goalies.

47:50 One's unrestricted.

47:51 So, my point is is they're going to change the players.

47:54 I would believe they need to do something with the coaching staff there.

47:57 It would like they they I think they plateaued there.

48:00 At some point, great coaches get let go.

48:02 Cassid's a great coach, but he got let go in Vegas with eight games left.

48:07 Like that's the the one thing is I I I

48:10 think the Oilers hit a plateau and McDavid said it

48:13 at the end of when they lost to the finals

48:16 two years ago where he's like we hit the wall.

48:19 We we didn't, you know, we didn't adjust.

48:21 Like to me, I think the the problem for Edmonton though is they just

48:25 signed Knoblock to a three a two or threeear extension that kicks in this year.

48:30 Okay.

48:30 So, they got to make

48:31 If you're Stan though, don't be a uh I understand.

48:35 I understand what you're saying.

48:35 Just fire the guy.

48:36 Like, if you're going to do it, fire the guy.

48:38 You're like now, what?

48:39 He's a guy sitting on his couch reading Frank Sarali's tweet and Bruce Cass.

48:43 Can't be a good feeling if you're reaching out to talk to Bruce.

48:46 And if you're Cassidy, why would you do that unless a job's available for you?

48:50 I would also be shocked if they haven't reached out to Peter Lavlet.

48:54 I think Lavlet you look at systematically the one thing oh I

48:58 think that that team needs is a hardened coach they they need

49:03 a Rod Brenda more emotional guy back there yelling and and and holding

49:07 guys accountable when's the last time you think that team had that

49:11 Dave T's point though which I do think is applicable on that I

49:16 agree with you Noodles for 16 guys on the ice every night

49:21 understood

49:20 what is you think McDavid cares what the coach

49:22 like McDavid's going to play the McDavid plays, he's not changing and drives.

49:27 Same with 29.

49:28 But the thing is is they've got to adjust their play

49:31 somewhat to a point where it's gotten them this far.

49:34 It hasn't gotten them over the the hump.

49:36 To me, I said this all along and I was tongue and cheek.

49:40 But if you would have done something,

49:41 they probably should have done something the Olympic

49:43 break kind of like what Vegas did, kind of like what other teams had did to try

49:47 and jolt them because they they needed a wake up.

49:49 They were just kind of trudging through the regular season.

49:53 Knoblock's a great coach, but great coaches get fired.

49:56 Joel Quinnville was a coach of mine.

49:58 Uh Daryl Sutter, I've had great coaches.

50:00 Lavy, you've had Lavy, you've had they all get fired at some point.

50:04 Okay.

50:04 Well, there's a counter to it.

50:05 There's a counter to it.

50:06 How long's Jared Bednar been in Colorado?

50:09 Yeah, you're right.

50:10 But they they won and he he took over in the most tough situation ever.

50:16 Remember, I get it.

50:17 It's a miracle he's still there.

50:18 I cannot believe like to his credit,

50:20 he he's earned all of They had like 47 points his first year.

50:24 Literally 47.

50:25 And he wasn't going to be their coach.

50:26 It was because W pulled the shoot.

50:28 And but the difference between the conversation the longest coaches

50:32 in the in the tenure right now is they've won.

50:35 John Cooper and Jared Bedner have won those other those other guys.

50:39 And how many times do we say it like other teams are cutthroat?

50:42 I'm not suggesting it's not tough for Chris

50:45 Knobblock to sit on his couch and go,

50:47 "What the hell's going on here?" But I would be shocked that they

50:50 I'm surprised that it got leaked because at the end of the day,

50:54 they should be looking at all different avenues because that team has a window

50:59 and they've been put on notice and everything has to be looked at within that.

51:02 I don't disagree and I I think that listen, I McDavid,

51:06 he he made some comments down the stretch

51:08 that are not promising for a head coach.

51:12 Yeah.

51:12 Like if you're a head coach and you're hearing him speak, it's trouble.

51:16 like the right average team.

51:19 We just didn't make remember what he

51:20 said about Cooper after they played in Tampa,

51:23 you know, pumping Cooper's tires and the way

51:25 they play compared to the way the Oilers played.

51:27 Like he he made a number of comments that were indirect shots at the coach

51:33 and ultimately McDavid's going to win that fight every single day of the week.

51:37 But the thing to O's point, and this is where I like I think a hardened coach,

51:42 I don't know if those players have ever been held to task.

51:46 That's the difference.

51:47 I would like to see a coach with cache come in and go, "I'm sorry.

51:50 You don't want to play this way.

51:52 You're not playing.

51:52 You're gonna play 20 minutes tonight."

51:54 Well, I'm pretty sure if Bedar said that to Nathan McKinnon,

51:57 Nathan McKinnon would say, "Hold on a sec.

52:00 Have you seen them argue on the bench?" Oh, they do all the time.

52:03 Exactly.

52:03 And you know what Bner doesn't do?

52:05 He doesn't back down.

52:06 Like these guys are ultra competitive.

52:09 I have no problem with a coach getting into it with a top player

52:12 because that's the respect that is there and it pushes him on any given night.

52:16 Rod Brymore and and we just had him on.

52:19 I I look at that guy and I'm like that guy

52:21 holds his players to task and whether it's Sebastian or Stall,

52:27 those guys know how he wants them to play that particular night.

52:31 And I don't know if on and given the thing is is

52:35 you can you could say I'm doing this or I'm not doing that.

52:38 You haven't won yet.

52:40 So you you can't lean back on that.

52:41 Bedner and and McKinnon probably have this mutual respect where

52:45 it's like okay we've been to the promised land together.

52:48 You're going to push me on a Tuesday night in November.

52:50 I get it.

52:51 But at the end of the day they haven't done that in Edmonton.

52:54 So I think something has to change there.

52:57 And I think all things should be on the table.

52:58 I agree with you all.

52:59 don't like this for Chris Knobblock having to read that online going,

53:03 "Hey, they're looking at other people." I don't

53:05 Bowman's got to own some of it, too.

53:06 I mean, I'm not the jury obviously didn't work out.

53:10 You know, the the Holloway and uh Broberg not matching, you know,

53:15 that wasn't that wasn't Bowman.

53:17 That was Jeff Jackson.

53:19 Whoever is responsible in the front office, right?

53:21 The front office has got to own some of it, too.

53:24 They've gone backwards out there.

53:26 And that was in now they also made some

53:28 good signings and they they kept some good players

53:31 and they made a couple of deals but um

53:34 it's not just the coach but interesting times in Edmonton

53:38 but go ahead.

53:39 Yeah, sorry.

53:39 Go ahead.

53:39 No, I I just O's not wrong.

53:42 I just was waiting for you to say what what part of it was it Vegas or

53:46 Edmonton.

53:46 I I just think it's a complete dbag way to conduct business.

53:49 If you're going behind a guy's back and then it gets public,

53:52 it's just like you don't have the decency.

53:53 You're going to move on.

53:54 Fire the guy.

53:55 surprised by Vegas, too.

53:56 Like I I guess Frank's report indicated

53:58 that because they're within the division, but you know,

54:01 and technically they're paying him and they're, you know,

54:04 he's still under contract, so they have the right to do it.

54:06 But

54:07 really, you fire you fired the guy and he won a Stanley Cup for you, you know,

54:11 like how show some respect to him as well to say

54:14 we're not going to stop you from getting another gig.

54:16 How would you like it if you got home Hayes and Keith Bower

54:19 and Steph Appalito were letting it leak that I was going to host overdrive.

54:24 Yeah, I wouldn't I don't know if I would like that.

54:28 What kind of traction would that report?

54:29 Drags reports he's been speaking with Keith Bower the Grappler

54:33 and Steph's brother's brother waiting in the wings at home.

54:38 And

54:38 how many Well, you're not on social media, so you wouldn't even see that.

54:41 Yeah, you wouldn't know that, buddy.

54:42 You wouldn't even know that report.

54:44 You got I told you.

54:45 Is there a way to be like how do you be it's just like ag member

54:49 at a golf course like you I just I'm coming for a snack at lunch and I'm out.

54:54 I'm not participating anymore.

54:56 Okay.

54:56 Okay.

54:56 Well, that's disappointing.

54:58 Um All right.

54:59 Mike Johnson and 20.

55:00 Overdrive continues up on YouTube live.

59:08 NLLL playoffs live here on TSN and TSN Plus.

59:14 Now back to Overdrive with Hayes, Noodles, and the Odog.

59:24 Hazy, I'd like to get your take on this fella.

59:29 This guy saw this deal.

59:32 I saw this on one of the golf accounts on X and it

59:36 said 1,500 bucks you can sign up and unlimited play for the summer.

59:45 Mhm.

59:47 Okay.

59:46 And I guess this guy paid his 1,500 bucks

59:50 and the course had to go to him and say, "You're abusing your summer pass."

59:56 So he's playing every single day.

59:58 It's a buffet.

59:59 But he he was allowed.

1:00:00 All he has to do is Saturday and Sunday before 10:00,

1:00:03 he's not allowed to tee off until after 10.

1:00:06 But this guy said he's a single dude.

1:00:08 He works from home.

1:00:10 And I guess this guy just started golfing his ass off.

1:00:14 and the the range balls and everything and somebody

1:00:17 came up to him and said you're abusing this.

1:00:20 We like we understand that you're within the guidelines,

1:00:23 but we think you're taking it too far.

1:00:25 No, I'm pro player on this, dude.

1:00:26 So am I.

1:00:27 He should just Yes.

1:00:29 I would start like stone cold stuttering the head pro right in the pro shop.

1:00:34 What did he do wrong?

1:00:35 That's the question.

1:00:36 Nothing.

1:00:36 I think he just got sick.

1:00:38 I think he just was that guy where it was like coffee guy in the morning,

1:00:43 range, nine holes, lunch nine.

1:00:45 Like I don't know what he was doing.

1:00:48 Yeah.

1:00:47 But they got sick of his ass and they

1:00:49 they went up to him and said it's too much.

1:00:52 See that that to me is is embarrassing for the club.

1:00:55 Check cash, didn't it?

1:00:56 Like Exactly.

1:00:57 He paid his amount.

1:00:59 Now listen, these are the weird things about like a golf club membership.

1:01:03 If you play every day, it can turn out to like $10 per round, you know.

1:01:07 And that's probably what they're doing,

1:01:09 the calculation on all this kind of stuff,

1:01:11 but then don't offer it.

1:01:12 But don't offer it.

1:01:13 Exactly.

1:01:13 Or make or make it more expensive.

1:01:14 And you know what?

1:01:15 I I guarantee is happening on the other side.

1:01:17 There are people that bought it and never go.

1:01:19 They're not calling them up saying, "Why aren't you here more?"

1:01:22 There are people that bought it and never showed up to the course.

1:01:25 Yes.

1:01:26 No, I love that play.

1:01:27 Like that's a great That's a great move.

1:01:29 It's a great deal.

1:01:30 It's a great deal.

1:01:30 You paid your price.

1:01:32 Check cash like you said, noodles.

1:01:34 Yeah.

1:01:35 Not showing up before 10:00 a.m.

1:01:36 on the weekend.

1:01:37 Understandable.

1:01:38 That's cool.

1:01:39 But you will see me every single day.

1:01:42 I That's commitment.

1:01:43 I kind of love that buffet.

1:01:45 That's buffet guy going back.

1:01:47 How much do you got to play though?

1:01:48 How much do you got to show up and wheel

1:01:51 around for someone to come up to you and say, "So now you're abusing."

1:01:56 It's getting to be It's It's daily.

1:01:58 Like I know people that are at golf courses daily.

1:02:02 They didn't have some deal or anything, but even them,

1:02:05 I think they kind of get a little, you're here again.

1:02:09 That's interesting that you're here again.

1:02:10 I'm convinced that staff are just like, "There's that guy again.

1:02:15 Can't believe he's here again." Yeah.

1:02:16 Unless he's like a dynamite guy, big tipper,

1:02:19 lovely to be, but the miserable guy that's there every day,

1:02:23 and who's just a pain in the ass, nobody wants to deal with that guy.

1:02:27 No.

1:02:28 There's several at every club.

1:02:30 Then don't set the rule.

1:02:31 Like you can't have that rule and then have somebody actually follow it.

1:02:36 Like it's like saying all you can eat buffet,

1:02:38 but then you know a guy walks in there and has

1:02:40 400 lobsters and they're like you can't we can't feed you anymore.

1:02:44 Like

1:02:45 listen, that should have been in fine print.

1:02:47 A limited amount of lobsters.

1:02:48 We understand you can't take stuff to go.

1:02:50 You get that at the buffet.

1:02:51 I understand that.

1:02:53 But when I'm there and I'm seated, it's going down.

1:02:56 No, it's go time.

1:02:57 And I just want to touch on one more thing, Jamie, bringing it back to hockey.

1:03:01 You talked about Edmonton and bringing in a coach to to keep McDavid

1:03:06 and and Dry Cidle and and everybody on the team accountable.

1:03:09 Yeah.

1:03:09 Okay.

1:03:10 Craig Barub is pretty old school guy and William Knander,

1:03:13 he goes out there and he does whatever the hell he wants.

1:03:16 No matter how much yelling, no matter how much sitting,

1:03:19 he does whatever the hell he wants.

1:03:21 So you you show me a coach that can hold

1:03:23 that guy accountable because he is on his own program.

1:03:27 We can go back and we talk about in the five o'clock hour.

1:03:29 How many times did Knander miss shift this?

1:03:32 This year did he miss like I don't think couple times.

1:03:34 Couple full couple of times.

1:03:35 Yeah.

1:03:36 Right.

1:03:36 Like and I'm not listen it's not the case study.

1:03:41 I'm just saying there is an expectation of this is how we want to play.

1:03:45 No, I get it.

1:03:45 But somebody should somebody could crack a whip and say if you don't like

1:03:49 you're not going out on the ice if you don't start playing the right way.

1:03:52 And it's just he ain't going to do it.

1:03:54 I I get it.

1:03:55 And it's a great it's a great great counterargument because

1:03:58 there are case studies throughout the league that but the thing

1:04:00 the one constant thing is we're talking about guys

1:04:03 who teams that haven't gone I mean didn't win.

1:04:07 Toronto didn't make the playoffs.

1:04:08 Edmonton lost in the first round.

1:04:09 So obviously they need to look at change.

1:04:12 That's players need to buy in man.

1:04:14 That's the that's the reality for anything.

1:04:16 You need the players to lead first.

1:04:18 They they establish

1:04:20 pretty much everything and they can work in sync with the coach,

1:04:22 but you need the players to have the right mentality.

1:04:25 Hour two coming up.

1:04:26 Mike Johnson, confirm or deny.

1:04:27 Overdrive continues.

1:04:29 TSN 1050 and on TSN Four.

1:09:09 Give it up for my man.

1:09:12 You've accomplished so much.

1:09:14 I don't know what I'm doing.

1:09:14 I don't even really know who I am.

1:09:21 This is Overdrive with Hayes, Noodles, and the OD Dog on TSN 1050.

1:09:34 All right, cool.

1:09:39 Bringing you more ways to play your game your way.

1:09:41 Brian Hayes, the odog, Jeff O'Neal, Jamie Noodles, Mcclennen.

1:09:45 We got confirmed deny coming up later in the hour.

1:09:48 And um I made a mistake in the last hour.

1:09:52 I made a mistake and I want to address it right here, right now.

1:09:56 I know this is you're going to carve me something.

1:09:59 I said last hour after the OD dog made

1:10:02 the proclamation on this show that he's retiring from Twitter,

1:10:04 he's out that it would take until the first ball is

1:10:09 in the air at the PGA Championship for him to be back on.

1:10:12 He retweeted something.

1:10:13 He retweeted something last hour.

1:10:15 No, I didn't.

1:10:16 Yes, you retweeted the tweet about you retiring.

1:10:19 That counts as a tweet.

1:10:21 So, you can't retweet the retirement tweet and then claim you're retired.

1:10:24 What are we 12 years old?

1:10:26 That was tweeting.

1:10:28 That's an announcement.

1:10:29 I'm supporting the announcement that I'm done with it.

1:10:32 I will no longer respond.

1:10:34 I like to have fun.

1:10:35 I like to attach Tom Brady and Sean Maramman to stupid pictures

1:10:40 and and like I like to have fun like that, but it's over.

1:10:44 It's over.

1:10:44 I don't have time for people

1:10:47 starting now.

1:10:48 Just like Kramer and the little jabs.

1:10:51 It's like like they just chew at you and chew at you.

1:10:55 It's like I don't agree.

1:10:57 By the way, why are you fat again?

1:10:58 It's just like it is unnecessary.

1:11:02 Like I'm just like why?

1:11:03 Like I have a thing I started doing like I know Jamie blocks a lot.

1:11:07 I have blocked so many people.

1:11:09 I don't know you on a personal level.

1:11:11 If you say one thing condescending or smartass or you make fun,

1:11:14 I block you immediately.

1:11:16 If you honestly like I I don't mind talking hockey with people.

1:11:19 Hey, what do you think about this?

1:11:20 What do you think about that?

1:11:21 I don't mind it, but if you're going to be a jerk, I just block you.

1:11:24 I have no time for it.

1:11:26 All right.

1:11:26 I Well, I wasn't trying to, you know, delve back into the topic.

1:11:29 I was just pointing out that was just part of the announcement.

1:11:32 I I thought there I probably should have

1:11:34 the announcement of apologizing for uh my mute button yesterday.

1:11:40 The mute malfunction.

1:11:41 I had a mute malfunction.

1:11:43 Oh, you played it at the end of the show, did you not?

1:11:45 Yesterday.

1:11:46 Yes.

1:11:46 It was one of my favorite.

1:11:47 Oh my god.

1:11:47 I tell him not to answer it.

1:11:50 I was I was in the middle of telling this story.

1:11:53 I'm so sorry.

1:11:54 I

1:11:54 I know.

1:11:55 I was trying to talk and you said that and I was like,

1:11:57 "Excuse me." You go, "What?"

1:11:59 I was like, "Got to find the mute the mute malfunction." I'm so

1:12:03 It happens to the best of us.

1:12:05 It happens to the best of us.

1:12:06 Anyway, malfunction.

1:12:07 I apologize.

1:12:08 Mute malfunction.

1:12:09 Somebody was at the door and I yelled to my daughter,

1:12:12 "Don't answer it." But it was on air and just Ace didn't mind it at all.

1:12:18 Oh, I was ecstatic with that.

1:12:19 Yeah, I was.

1:12:20 I tried to play it cool, dude.

1:12:21 As soon as you said that was like smoke.

1:12:25 Well, then you brought it up twice.

1:12:26 I'm like I know.

1:12:27 I was like, just let's move on.

1:12:29 I know.

1:12:29 I tried to have fun with it and this guy's like just move on.

1:12:33 I was not in the mood yesterday.

1:12:35 I wasn't feeling well and I Exactly.

1:12:38 Listen, I have grown and matured a lot.

1:12:40 You guys know this.

1:12:40 10 years ago, I used to be if I was

1:12:43 You would have went You would have You would have Dave Hodgej pen and

1:12:45 I ruined everybody's day.

1:12:48 to my house.

1:12:48 Yeah.

1:12:49 Yeah.

1:12:49 I would have I went out of my way to drag everyone down with me

1:12:53 and I have matured and I'm a much better person today.

1:12:57 You got to find the right.

1:12:59 There he is.

1:13:00 Don't answer.

1:13:01 All right.

1:13:01 Here's uh Mike Johnson, our TSN hockey analyst answering his FaceTime

1:13:06 call on the uh Maple Toyota Hotline.

1:13:08 How are we doing, Johnny?

1:13:11 Okay.

1:13:11 I am enjoying this because I remember the days

1:13:14 when Hayes would snap at anyone's technical issues,

1:13:18 someone misses a mute button and Hazy B would be steaming Willie beaming.

1:13:23 The second it happened, he would just go on tilt.

1:13:27 And I'd like to add one of my favorite things

1:13:28 I've seen today is the declaration that O was quitting Twitter.

1:13:33 And I read about it because he reposted it.

1:13:39 Exactly.

1:13:39 Johnny, I had I had Do we see a disconnect?

1:13:44 Shut up, Johnny.

1:13:45 I had to announce it

1:13:49 like Overdrive announced it that I'll no longer be participating.

1:13:53 So, I retweeted it.

1:13:54 That's like That's like Jim Nance retiring from the Masters in 2035.

1:14:00 Yeah.

1:13:59 Right.

1:14:00 In 2035, I'm done at the Master.

1:14:02 That was the greatest announcement from Jimmy Nance.

1:14:05 He just looked in the camera and he's like,

1:14:07 you know, and I thought he was going to say the next Masters is my last.

1:14:10 He goes, after that 2036 Masters, I'm out.

1:14:17 I was like, you got to be kidding me.

1:14:20 Great.

1:14:20 Like, what if people at CBS are thinking,

1:14:22 I don't know, Jim, but he's now declared that.

1:14:25 You know, there's a guy behind the scenes that said,

1:14:27 you're going to be gone a long time before that, Jimbo.

1:14:30 For sure.

1:14:31 How about the guy who's in the second chair going, I'm up next.

1:14:34 He's like, "Yeah, it's the 10 more years.

1:14:38 What are we doing here?

1:14:39 What are we talking about?" We'll see.

1:14:41 We'll see.

1:14:42 That's like Mlin Celebrating wearing the captain.

1:14:45 Johnny, hang on a sec.

1:14:46 Go ahead.

1:14:46 Hang on a sec.

1:14:47 Johnny, my philosophy is Sydney Crosby's joining team Canada.

1:14:52 He is going to get there and he's going

1:14:54 to sit down with the coaches first and say, "You gave the kid the C.

1:14:59 You're not going to take it away from him now just because I showed up."

1:15:02 And then he's going to sit down and go for a beer with the kid and say,

1:15:05 "It's your time now, son.

1:15:07 I'm going to help you out and I'll be like a co- captain.

1:15:10 They're going to give me an A, but you're going to remain the captain of Team

1:15:13 Canada." I'll bet money that on Friday he

1:15:16 skates out Mlin Celerini with the C on.

1:15:18 I'll hang up and listen, Johnny.

1:15:20 Go ahead.

1:15:21 100% accept calling him kid as much as you did.

1:15:23 I do agree.

1:15:24 Or son, but what about the the reverse uno?

1:15:29 Out of respect for Sid, I cannot wear the C.

1:15:32 I need the A and I'm giving it to him.

1:15:37 Yeah.

1:15:36 I won't let you play for Canada and not have

1:15:38 the C because you until you retire are captain Canada.

1:15:43 I mean, I think that's quite likely as well.

1:15:45 It might be the double Canadian standoff.

1:15:47 You take it, no, you have it.

1:15:48 They both will be giving it up.

1:15:51 I agree.

1:15:51 I agree.

1:15:52 It was like I think it was Vince

1:15:53 Carter that started the All-Star game when Jordan

1:15:56 was going to come off the bench I believe and they were like you can't do that.

1:16:00 Like you can't there's no chance.

1:16:02 You got to have this guy starting and like

1:16:05 Jeter and A-Rod with who's going to play short.

1:16:08 It just it feels like it's it's going to be Sid

1:16:11 in the end unless Sid just goes I'm not doing it.

1:16:13 But ultimately it's incred I think the cooler story is

1:16:16 the fact that he's going Johnny at 38 years old.

1:16:20 It's incredible dedication to the country was just

1:16:23 at the the the Olympics three months ago.

1:16:27 It's I I I saw the news today.

1:16:29 I'm like triple check to see if it's from a reputable source.

1:16:33 I'm like is that that's got to be a fake account.

1:16:35 And the fact that he played down the stretch

1:16:37 injured as he came back from that injury

1:16:39 he suffered at the Olympics early and maybe

1:16:43 you know he obviously he loves playing.

1:16:44 He loves playing for Canada.

1:16:47 He also has played, guys, his last two tournaments for Canada.

1:16:49 He had that run before last year's World

1:16:51 Championship or he was whatever he'd won his last

1:16:53 six times he played for Canada and he was 48-2 as a captain or whatever it was.

1:16:59 And then they lost to Denmark last year.

1:17:01 Denmark in the quarterfinals with a stack

1:17:04 team with his buddy Nate and everything else.

1:17:06 And then they lost the gold medal game which he wasn't able to participate in.

1:17:09 So you wonder if he's thinking how many more chances does he get?

1:17:13 How many more times will he ever get to wear a Canadian jersey?

1:17:17 And I'm sure he wants to end his international career,

1:17:21 not with a absentee injured silver medal and a quarterfinal defeat to Denmark.

1:17:28 So, he gets a chance now to come back and and on a pretty

1:17:31 good team that with is probably the favorite or the co-f

1:17:34 favorite in the tournament um given the the looks of the other teams

1:17:38 and finish it maybe if it is his last time with a gold.

1:17:41 Absolutely.

1:17:43 Um I guess Dubis spoke today.

1:17:45 Kyle said that, you know,

1:17:47 they'd love to have Kenny Malcin back who's at UFA now this summer.

1:17:52 All due respect, Brian, why?

1:17:54 Well, Johnny, you want to answer that?

1:17:56 Malcin back to pit.

1:17:58 If not, where might he land?

1:17:59 What kind of value does he still have?

1:18:03 I mean, let's call him Joe Johnson, okay?

1:18:07 He had a point a game player was gonna he's

1:18:09 gonna get you 25 goals and 65 to 70 points.

1:18:12 What's that guy worth?

1:18:13 Well, Charlie Coyle just signed six years for 606 million until 40.

1:18:20 Malcol's a better offensive player than Charlie Coyle.

1:18:22 So, he's worth seven or eight million across the league on a short-term deal.

1:18:27 Um, so there would be value out there

1:18:29 because of the offensive player he still is,

1:18:31 even if he's a far cry from what he once was.

1:18:35 Could could he go to Tampa?

1:18:37 Could he go to Florida?

1:18:39 Could he go to Montreal?

1:18:40 Like any team that sort of needs a little

1:18:42 could he go to Toronto and be, you know,

1:18:44 like there are lots of teams that need help

1:18:45 down the middle in the two three kind of position.

1:18:48 So there'd be no shortage of teams interested in him,

1:18:52 but I think Kyle Dol has to say that and hope that it works out

1:18:56 and it looks like they're going to just

1:18:58 go run it back until the wheels fall off.

1:19:00 But I think that's what you're saying.

1:19:01 Instead of being proactive and and maybe

1:19:04 turning the page and going a different direction,

1:19:06 trying to make it go as well as it did this year,

1:19:08 which it probably won't next year, just the nature of the sport.

1:19:12 But not a lot of loyalty out there.

1:19:15 And I guess Kyle Dubis has at least publicly shown that he's

1:19:18 he's going to have some to the big three in Pittsburgh.

1:19:21 So Johnny, just following that up quickly, um,

1:19:24 with the cap going up, and it's a good chunk going up,

1:19:26 do we have to reset maybe our standards on what a $5

1:19:32 million player is to maybe be six and a half type of thing?

1:19:35 Like, you know, and and do we all have

1:19:37 to do that across the board when we judge something?

1:19:41 Always.

1:19:42 And I know we hate talking about percentage of the cap.

1:19:44 We hate it because we don't want to do any math and I get it, but whatever.

1:19:48 If you're a 10% player three years ago, you're still a 10% player.

1:19:53 Just 10% now is 10.4 million instead of eight, right?

1:19:57 Like you have to adjust with the growth.

1:19:59 And the value as you allocate it around your team is going to be

1:20:02 approximately the same as the teams that were successful doing it years ago.

1:20:06 So, everyone's got to get I mean, it's going up 5% this year,

1:20:09 went up 4% last year, it's going to go up 5% the year following.

1:20:12 So, in the last three years, you're going to have to go up 15% or so.

1:20:16 So a $5 million player, exact same player as 575 or six.

1:20:21 Like that's how it's going to be.

1:20:22 So when we fall out of our chair seeing Alex Tuck

1:20:25 getting 10.89 million on the open market or Charlie Coyle getting

1:20:30 six years as a 34 year old who I don't think

1:20:33 has ever had 60 points in his career at $6 million.

1:20:36 We're like, yeah, that's, you know,

1:20:38 that's a function of the growing salary cap and it's great news for the players.

1:20:43 20 goals.

1:20:43 Yeah.

1:20:43 20 goals like twice in his career.

1:20:46 He's been around a long time, man.

1:20:47 And he's just signed six figures.

1:20:50 Good for him.

1:20:51 Yeah.

1:20:51 Good for him.

1:20:52 Exactly.

1:20:53 Well, you know, you mentioned Tuck,

1:20:54 who I I can't imagine he hits the market, but he's gone this far.

1:20:59 You know, maybe he does, maybe he leaves Buffalo.

1:21:02 Um, you know, everyone's trying to get a read

1:21:03 on the mind of a Austin Matthews right

1:21:05 now and how he might be swayed to want to be a part of the program long term.

1:21:11 Do you think the drafting of Gavin McKenna would have more

1:21:15 of an impact on his future or the signing of Alex Tuck

1:21:20 in terms of if you're if you're playing the role of Austin Matthews?

1:21:24 Is there a third option?

1:21:25 Like not, you know, is there is there not much impact at all?

1:21:28 What am I trade for McDavid?

1:21:31 Like what else are you going to get?

1:21:32 No, but I mean I think I don't know if either one Hayes really

1:21:35 moves the needle in in its own on it like in its own standalone.

1:21:39 Like Gavin McKenna won't be as good as Alex Tuck next year.

1:21:41 Gavin McKenna will be much better than Alex Tuck in three years.

1:21:44 So I don't know how that factors into Austin

1:21:46 Matthews calibration about what he wants to do.

1:21:50 But I think it's if I'm guessing Austin's view

1:21:54 on the Leafs is in its entirety what the team feels like.

1:21:59 Not just one player or the player that's going to play

1:22:01 with me in lie of what Mitch used to do,

1:22:03 but also what are we going to do on defense?

1:22:06 What's our coach going to be?

1:22:07 what systems we gonna play.

1:22:08 I think it's like the entire package is what he'll be evaluating.

1:22:11 Not just, hey, we got you a good winger, you know, are we good to go?

1:22:16 And I don't think that's going to be enough for for Austin Matthews to say,

1:22:18 yeah, I'm going to stay and I'm going to sign an extension next year.

1:22:22 I think he wants to see like a more complete view,

1:22:26 a macro view of the team and what they plan on doing and whether they

1:22:29 can do it this summer before he signs off on on his his approval or not.

1:22:34 Well, yes.

1:22:35 And and listen, that sounds like the direction it's going in.

1:22:39 Yeah.

1:22:40 I mean, I look at again without knowing what

1:22:42 McKenna is going to turn into, the scouting reports are,

1:22:46 you know, very high on him clearly.

1:22:48 I mean, if he's going to go first overall, like what I've read and heard,

1:22:51 I'm sure you guys have the done the same thing,

1:22:53 is the offensive upside is crazy crazy.

1:22:58 And like that I would think would peique his interest.

1:23:03 again, not this, not on the micro like you just said, not for next season,

1:23:08 but if this guy has any chance of turning into, you know,

1:23:13 this is the example I would use,

1:23:14 and these are extreme because these are

1:23:15 Hall of Fame like all-time great players, but Stamco started his career with St.

1:23:20 Louis and now ended it basically at Tampa with Cucherov.

1:23:23 Like if Matthews is like, man,

1:23:25 I get to play this long with Mner and then maybe I get to play the next seven,

1:23:29 eight years of my career with McKenna if he reaches that level.

1:23:33 That's got to be incredibly enticing.

1:23:35 It should be, wouldn't you think, for a pure goal scorer like him?

1:23:40 100% 100% on an on an individual level.

1:23:42 And you know, McKenna could be compared

1:23:44 to a really poor man's Patrick Kane, you know,

1:23:48 play driving, not great skating, smaller winger,

1:23:52 but has a way to just produce points.

1:23:54 And if you look at Baddard and what Baddard

1:23:57 did in the year before he was draft eligible,

1:24:00 I guess his 16, whatever, 17-y old season,

1:24:03 McKenna did more in medicine hat than Baddard did when he was in Regina.

1:24:06 You know, I think we're going to swayed

1:24:08 by the 17-year-old kid in prime college years getting 51 points

1:24:12 instead of 151 in Medicine hat where we would

1:24:15 be swooning at this guy who could not stop scoring.

1:24:19 So, you have to take that in consideration.

1:24:21 But if Austin's being honest, and we'll take it as word that is his camp is

1:24:26 being honest and what's most important is for him to win.

1:24:30 Just him alone playing with a great player so

1:24:32 he can keep piling up goals and being great,

1:24:34 that shouldn't be the the only factor in whether

1:24:38 or not he wants to be in Toronto because Gavin McKenna alone is not making

1:24:41 the Maple Leafs a winning Stanley Cup contending team.

1:24:44 If that's what Austin wants, it has to be more than just I'm in a good spot.

1:24:48 I need the whole team to be in a good spot.

1:24:50 That's what I was going to follow up with, Johnny.

1:24:53 What would he want Gavin McKenna for?

1:24:55 To get back to a 50 gold man or does he want to get back to a Stanley Cup final?

1:25:00 What What would his motivation be?

1:25:02 And that is the first thing I would want to know.

1:25:05 Uh I don't know.

1:25:06 Well, maybe but I think Well, but hang on.

1:25:09 You go score 50 or 60 or 70, we're that much closer to being a Stanley Cup team.

1:25:14 Like it's not just you being great.

1:25:16 The fact that you're great takes us all to a different level.

1:25:20 that we can't get to unless you are being

1:25:23 as prolific as you have been in the past.

1:25:25 So, you know, they are linked together.

1:25:29 Yeah.

1:25:29 That guy scoring 50 goals next year, they're still not a Stanley Cup contender.

1:25:35 Will not matter.

1:25:36 Yeah.

1:25:36 So,

1:25:37 but if he But if he became the guy he was, how many years ago did he score 69?

1:25:41 Three, whatever it was, three years ago.

1:25:43 If he becomes that player again where he was like just Okay.

1:25:49 dominant,

1:25:48 it's huge.

1:25:49 that make that makes them a a much not a Stanley Cup team at all though team.

1:25:55 But you know what they win a first round.

1:25:59 What I say about great players is what happens

1:26:01 when it when when he goes off the ice.

1:26:03 Who else is coming on?

1:26:04 And when that line goes off, who else is coming on after that?

1:26:07 It's not close.

1:26:08 You have to be realistic here.

1:26:09 I'm not trying to be both.

1:26:11 God knows I know that Toronto is the greatest hockey market in the world.

1:26:16 You hate to You're so Toronto.

1:26:18 Oh, it makes me sick.

1:26:19 You hate on Montreal.

1:26:21 You're the It's just like you.

1:26:22 That's the reason I quit Twitter.

1:26:24 It's like you've never been in the Bell Center before.

1:26:26 You ever been on the Bell Center?

1:26:28 Try getting to the Bell Center one time in your life.

1:26:30 Oh,

1:26:30 it's a great place.

1:26:31 I know.

1:26:32 It's great.

1:26:33 Uh you know what?

1:26:34 Following that up though,

1:26:35 you you mentioned like puck movers, somebody like that.

1:26:38 You got to look at the whole package.

1:26:40 It'll be interesting to see what this Radish Radish character is going to get.

1:26:44 I mean, you know, he had an unbelievable season,

1:26:48 but that's Cooerov putting it on a tea for him as well.

1:26:50 Like, careful what you wish for sometimes.

1:26:53 He's going to cash in and rightfully so.

1:26:55 He had an amazing season a couple years ago.

1:26:57 I watched him in the AHL All-Star game.

1:26:59 Like, he's a he's a really good player and he

1:27:01 Tampa found a good player to settle into the system.

1:27:04 But you know what do you think a guy

1:27:06 like that Johnny that's is it buyer beware or is

1:27:09 this guy pushed through and going to be able

1:27:11 to do that on any team type of thing?

1:27:16 I don't think so.

1:27:16 Oh I or noodles I would be so nervous.

1:27:19 I'd be so nervous about like he's going to do

1:27:22 what he does well which is always shoot the puck hard.

1:27:24 He moves it okay.

1:27:25 Pretty he's okay defensively.

1:27:27 In the playoffs this year for Tampa he was probably their best

1:27:30 defenseman you know and that's saying

1:27:31 something because they're a pretty good team.

1:27:33 But Tampa is also a really good structured team.

1:27:36 I would be worried if you introduce him into Toronto, like this year's team.

1:27:41 Put him on Toronto's team this year and you pay him $9 million a year,

1:27:45 which is what he is going to get.

1:27:47 You would be looking at him after six week going the hell is this?

1:27:51 This is not a 9 million.

1:27:52 Like this guy's he's not going to fix all your mistakes.

1:27:56 He will fit in with a good system and good

1:27:58 players and he will be a really good player himself,

1:28:01 but he's not good enough to walk in there and say, "I'm the number one.

1:28:04 Everyone get behind me and I'm going to play 27

1:28:07 a night and I'm going to be Zach Winsky in Columbus.

1:28:11 Why I am so far and away like I'm Quinn Hughes and I'm on the ice.

1:28:15 It's all good." I would be worried about

1:28:17 that and and what that does to him mentally.

1:28:19 like does he try to he suffers from one of those free

1:28:22 agent contracts where he tries to live up to it by changing

1:28:25 and it goes really terribly.

1:28:27 I want him to get paid.

1:28:28 He's not got a lot of money in his career.

1:28:29 He deserves the 70 million he's going to get this summer.

1:28:31 I'm happy for him.

1:28:33 Yeah.

1:28:33 But it's got to be a good spot because if he goes to a bad team,

1:28:36 and Toronto was a bad team, I don't know if he alone in his game will sort

1:28:42 of survive and thrive in a bad environment and in a nonstructured environment.

1:28:48 So game four tonight, Buffalo Montreal.

1:28:50 UPL going in for the Sabres.

1:28:52 And it sounds like Luke Shen's going in too for Buffalo on the back end.

1:28:57 What do you make of those moves for Lindy Ruff?

1:29:01 UPPL, I guess, not as surprising.

1:29:02 I don't blame Alex Lion.

1:29:04 Noodles could tell you like Lion in game three,

1:29:06 he he must had 14 shots all alone in front.

1:29:09 Like there was so many great a chances

1:29:11 that the game could have been seven nothing,

1:29:14 one, two, whatever it ended up being.

1:29:16 I don't blame him, but the reality is Buffalo,

1:29:18 like Colorado, like Minnesota, they play two goalies.

1:29:21 And so UPL plays and he plays well.

1:29:25 And Alex Lion's also not used to playing four, six, eight, 10 games in a row.

1:29:29 They've always sort of rotated.

1:29:30 I I would be inclined not to do it, but I get why he's doing it.

1:29:34 It's their team.

1:29:34 They've done it all year.

1:29:35 Um, changing on defense, you know,

1:29:38 you're taking what, Logan Stanley out for Luke Shen.

1:29:41 Luke Shen is experienced.

1:29:42 he knows what he is, but in a fast fastpaced series,

1:29:46 Luke Shen having been on the sideline for a few

1:29:48 weeks and stepping into that on the road

1:29:51 partner with Connor Timonss that there is there is

1:29:56 room for things not to go well in that regard.

1:29:58 So, um they can't be any worse than they were last game.

1:30:01 Buffalo was terrible managing the pucks and situations in game three.

1:30:06 They'll be better than that.

1:30:07 So, it might look like it works well,

1:30:08 but you're rolling the dice because if you don't win this one,

1:30:11 history shows you almost never win the series.

1:30:16 Yeah.

1:30:15 Yeah.

1:30:15 It's a it's a mustwin for them tonight.

1:30:18 And uh I I mean, I would expect a response

1:30:20 based based on the way they've played all year,

1:30:22 but Montreal's got mojo going, man.

1:30:24 Like, Montreal looks like a very wellbalanced team.

1:30:29 And yes, the big boys are playing well,

1:30:31 but I I they're getting a lot of contribution from depth,

1:30:34 you know, like it it's like and they didn't get it all year.

1:30:38 They didn't get it all year though.

1:30:40 That's the crazy part.

1:30:42 Like they were dying for Doc or for Bulldog.

1:30:46 I mean Texia had a quick spurt,

1:30:47 got a contract then disappeared and New Hook I think had 13.

1:30:51 Now, he was heard it at sometimes, but like it wasn't 27 Bulls.

1:30:54 Like, he was they had all these guys that they were looking

1:30:56 for more from and now they've gotten to the playoffs and they're getting it.

1:31:00 It's it's really something to watch.

1:31:02 Um, you know, Josh Anderson, Mat, you said, and all the rest of it.

1:31:06 Um, and they're still not getting a ton of scoring from their best guys.

1:31:09 Like, there is room to grow at five on five for Cfield, Suzuki, Slowski.

1:31:14 But the one guy who's been great all year and great again, that Lane Hudson.

1:31:19 He talks about defenseman drive and play.

1:31:22 That guy is something special.

1:31:24 When he has the puck on his stick and it used to be, well,

1:31:27 he's he's good with the puck,

1:31:29 but he's going to be trouble because he's so small.

1:31:31 Well, that's gone away.

1:31:32 Yeah, he's good with the puck, but in the playoffs, he can't quite do it.

1:31:35 That's gone away.

1:31:36 Yeah, he's good with the puck.

1:31:37 Playoffs, he might be able to survive, but he can't be dominant.

1:31:39 That's gone away.

1:31:40 Like, he is just so so good.

1:31:44 And to get a guy like that with a second round pick and to have all those guys,

1:31:48 Cfield, Slowski, Suzuki,

1:31:51 Hudson signed for less than $8 million or I guess like one gone to nine.

1:31:55 Like that is they are so set going into the future beyond this year.

1:31:59 They're they're unbelievably set up.

1:32:01 Great farm system too like

1:32:03 and and H and Jacarov whatever the guy's name is and Ryan Bacher

1:32:09 and Edstrom all those guys like they got a ton of guys coming too.

1:32:13 and Jacob Fowler is not even playing.

1:32:15 So yeah, um but you watch that Lane Hudson the play

1:32:18 he made for Hudson for Cole Coughfield's goal.

1:32:20 You're like I don't know how many defense can make that plays.

1:32:23 Him and Quinn Hughes and Kar that might be it.

1:32:26 Like that is that good.

1:32:27 He's that special.

1:32:29 Johnny, what do you make of what's going on out in Edmonton

1:32:32 not firing Knoblock and playing a dirty trick behind his back?

1:32:37 I think it's classless, man.

1:32:40 Well, I mean, haven't they essentially fired him?

1:32:42 If that report is true and you are asking to talk to Bruce

1:32:46 Cass, make it official and fire the

1:32:48 guy like what's Nblock doing at home like um I'm not really the coach anymore.

1:32:54 They've effectively not just trying to replace me,

1:32:56 but they're being denied and what are you

1:32:57 going to come back say, hey, you know what?

1:32:59 We always wanted you to we always wanted you anyways.

1:33:02 Like that is you can't let that get out.

1:33:05 You cannot let that get out.

1:33:07 Exactly.

1:33:07 like that that is a terrible leak and I don't like

1:33:10 whether it's coming from Vegas's side or Cassid's side or Edmonton,

1:33:15 but it puts Knoblock in an untenable situation.

1:33:18 He's basically fired.

1:33:20 So, oh, I'm with you.

1:33:21 Do the humane thing and just like, okay,

1:33:23 we're going to replace you because now that it's out,

1:33:26 if he tries to come back and coach, that's that's that's an impossibility.

1:33:30 And now, Bruce Cassie is a very good coach.

1:33:33 Very good coach.

1:33:34 And he's very good with details.

1:33:35 And I'm sure they look at their team saying,

1:33:37 "What did we really suffer with this year?" Details.

1:33:41 Details.

1:33:42 And play away from the puck.

1:33:43 And who's the best guy out there to correct that?

1:33:46 I'm not saying it's not Bruce Cassidy.

1:33:48 I'm not saying go don't go hire him.

1:33:49 Go hire him.

1:33:50 It's fine.

1:33:51 But you can't let it get out and then not hire him.

1:33:54 And And how about Vegas maybe not letting him.

1:33:56 That's also I kind of like that on Vegas's side.

1:33:59 I kind of like it.

1:34:00 Like it's it's kind of it's costing them five million bucks, right?

1:34:03 because they got to pay him anyways.

1:34:05 But they're like, "We'd rather we know you're so good.

1:34:07 We'd rather pay you five million bucks to do

1:34:09 nothing than risk letting you coach a divisional opponent."

1:34:13 Like that's like a tip of the cap to Cassidy

1:34:15 cuz otherwise like they didn't think he was good.

1:34:17 They're like, "Yeah, go ahead.

1:34:18 We're not worried." But they would be worried what

1:34:20 Edmonton would look like with him as the coach.

1:34:22 And and all of this lost in all of this is

1:34:24 Knoblock signed a three-year extension that kicks in this year.

1:34:28 So they're going to have to chew on that money in Edmonton.

1:34:31 Yeah.

1:34:31 Yeah, like that's, you know, that's and that's the cost of doing business,

1:34:35 but but at the end of the day, you're right.

1:34:37 Like there's it's not as bad as what what did that time Krueger Skype Skype.

1:34:45 They were going to send you a link.

1:34:46 Make sure you answer at 4:30.

1:34:50 That one was tough.

1:34:51 They were going to hire Dolly Eekens as the assistant coach.

1:34:54 And I think it was M T that was like,

1:34:56 I just liked him so much he decided he was going to be our head coach.

1:35:00 So they facetimed Ralphie Krueger and said, "Smell you later, Ralphie."

1:35:06 Hey, Ralph.

1:35:06 What's happening?

1:35:07 That's tough, man.

1:35:08 Oh, great.

1:35:09 Awesome.

1:35:09 You're fired, by the way.

1:35:11 See you later.

1:35:12 That was a wild story, man.

1:35:14 Ralph Krueger.

1:35:15 All right, Johnny, we'll get you out of here on one last Mystic Mike for us.

1:35:19 Over under three and a half points for Mitch Martner tonight.

1:35:23 Over under three and a half, guys.

1:35:25 On a heater.

1:35:26 Got to got to take the over.

1:35:28 You got to get the over tonight.

1:35:31 I I might parlay it with over one and a half

1:35:33 goals because he's such a noted goal scorer as well.

1:35:38 100%.

1:35:37 Easy money.

1:35:38 Easy money.

1:35:39 My favorite block.

1:35:41 Yeah, easy money.

1:35:43 This or dada.

1:35:45 All right.

1:35:46 Thank you, Johnny.

1:35:47 See you later in the week.

1:35:49 We'll talk to you from Zurich later in the week.

1:35:53 Yes.

1:35:53 Say hi to Sid and the captain.

1:35:54 There he is.

1:35:55 Mike Johnson joining us here on the Maple Toyota Hotline.

1:35:58 That's a great drop.

1:36:01 Yeah, that this or data or data.

1:36:03 This or data.

1:36:04 He puts in like some juice into it.

1:36:06 Hey, Mark.

1:36:07 He does.

1:36:07 So good.

1:36:08 So good.

1:36:09 I love it.

1:36:10 Um All right.

1:36:10 Jay's raise tonight.

1:36:12 Corbin on the mound for the Jays.

1:36:14 Um we'll get into that.

1:36:15 We'll get into confirming an eye.

1:36:17 Best bets as well later in the hour.

1:36:18 Overdrive continues up on TSN 4.

1:40:28 I can neither confirm or deny that uh that this is in fake to signal.

1:40:32 Austin trades Andrew Ray Croft to Toronto

1:40:36 in exchange for the rights to Tuka Ras.

1:40:40 It's been my honor and a privilege to serve

1:40:42 as the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club.

1:40:45 It's time for confirm or deny.

1:40:48 Do you regret giving all those gentlemen the no trades or no movement clauses?

1:40:54 I I can either confirm or deny that.

1:40:55 I can't confirm or deny.

1:40:57 All right, confirm or deny.

1:40:59 Brought to you by Boston Pizza, Canada's favorite sports bar.

1:41:02 This playoffs BP is summoning the hockey gods to tilt the ice in Canada's favor.

1:41:07 Join us and feast like a hockey god on our new playoff venue.

1:41:10 See you for puck drop or your local BP.

1:41:14 All right, what a night it's going to be at Boston Pizza.

1:41:16 Weather's nice.

1:41:17 Got the Havs in action tonight.

1:41:19 Big game.

1:41:20 Jay's in action tonight.

1:41:22 All right, confirmed tonight.

1:41:23 At least one team will push the Colorado Avalanche to six games in a series.

1:41:30 Confirm.

1:41:30 It's the Carolina Hurricanes, too.

1:41:33 Yeah.

1:41:33 Going all the way to the cup final that they'll push it to six.

1:41:35 I didn't want to play like spoiler,

1:41:37 but that's the meat and potatoes of what's left here.

1:41:40 And I know you guys love Montreal.

1:41:42 I know you love Buffalo,

1:41:44 and they deserve their love and respect and flowers and all of it.

1:41:48 I think Carolina is going to like they just everyone was like,

1:41:52 "Watch out for Ottawa when they get in the playoffs, man.

1:41:54 They're going to do some ser Carolina smoked them." Yeah.

1:41:58 Upand coming Philly.

1:41:58 Like they watch out.

1:41:59 These guys are full of juice.

1:42:01 And this Carolina smoked them.

1:42:04 They're systematically structurally work contributions and they

1:42:11 don't even have and Aaho going yet.

1:42:15 Imagine those two get on the board.

1:42:17 But there is one wild card and we know what it is.

1:42:21 He wears number 31.

1:42:24 Frederick.

1:42:24 Who knows if that guy wants to turn himself into a pumpkin at a critical time

1:42:29 cuz that busy drives in man.

1:42:30 Maybe after that the busy shows up and yeah,

1:42:33 I don't think Hey, it's been incredible thus far.

1:42:36 It's the best I've seen him play.

1:42:38 But Carolina is the I think it's the only thing stopping the Colorado Avalanche.

1:42:43 And I've been crazy before because there was a time a few years back

1:42:48 where I said just give Colorado the cup.

1:42:50 This is ridiculous.

1:42:51 And Vegas beat them out.

1:42:53 I think Dbor came back from like a 3-2

1:42:56 series deficit and they they beat him out.

1:42:58 And then I think ultimately Vegas, no,

1:42:59 they didn't win the cup because Pete wasn't there.

1:43:01 But strange things could happen, but that's the way I see it.

1:43:05 Carolina can take the Carolina hurricane.

1:43:07 I think they can actually take them down.

1:43:09 You think Carolina could beat Colorado?

1:43:11 I do.

1:43:12 I mean, I think Carolina really good teams.

1:43:15 The one thing that we we you can't predict, but you have to, you know,

1:43:21 expect sometimes like McKinnon got hit in the face with that puck yesterday.

1:43:25 Like he came back like that was not a problem.

1:43:27 Not a problem for him.

1:43:28 Tough as nails.

1:43:29 But I'm saying like you you you we don't know.

1:43:32 You can't factor in injuries.

1:43:34 Mark Stone not playing tonight for Vegas and that looked like

1:43:36 the sounds like he might be not not available for a while there.

1:43:41 Like that's the thing that can hurt teams that like you said.

1:43:44 Oh, we don't know if 31's going to be

1:43:47 able to make it right through the whole playoffs,

1:43:48 but he's been unbelievable for Carolina.

1:43:52 He's been awesome.

1:43:53 And but you know what?

1:43:54 They protect him and they they do.

1:43:56 He plays well in that system and he's been great.

1:43:58 If you go through the shot suppression uh numbers and data,

1:44:02 you will see some stuff that you've barely seen before.

1:44:06 Exactly.

1:44:06 Good pull.

1:44:07 I disc or data.

1:44:09 Disc or data.

1:44:12 Data.

1:44:11 But you know what?

1:44:12 You're not wrong.

1:44:14 But Freddy especially, I didn't see it as much against Philadelphia,

1:44:18 but against Ottawa, I thought he was brilliant.

1:44:20 And you like big saves on Stutla, big saves on Kachchuck, big saves on Bath,

1:44:26 like and that's why they swept him is the goalending was fantastic,

1:44:31 but they're systematic.

1:44:32 Their penalty kill, we didn't even talk about to Rod about his penalty kill.

1:44:36 The penalty kill was ridiculous.

1:44:38 Right front and center for all that.

1:44:42 Yeah.

1:44:41 Well, I mean, listen, listen.

1:44:42 We're now suggesting that Minnesota has no chance

1:44:45 to win game six or game five, I guess.

1:44:48 Like that's what we're basically saying.

1:44:50 I I kind of feel the same way.

1:44:52 Like after last night, I I I thought Minnesota would win that game.

1:44:56 I did.

1:44:56 I thought they'd show up ready to play.

1:44:58 The place was going nuts to start the game.

1:45:00 And Colorado is just they're so good.

1:45:03 They're on top of you.

1:45:04 They're bigger.

1:45:05 They're faster.

1:45:06 They're stronger.

1:45:07 Um you know, Manson, I don't know if that was I didn't think

1:45:10 that was really a butt end on McCarron, but

1:45:12 I I thought it was I I know McCarron's like an old school guy.

1:45:16 I I I think I I don't I didn't see like a I know it was he he kind

1:45:20 of tried to punch him and the butt end was

1:45:23 there's an angle though the guys there's an angle there.

1:45:25 I thought it was a cagey move but I thought they I mean he they clipped him

1:45:30 and they they I thought it was a butt end but he knew what he was doing.

1:45:33 Watch.

1:45:33 He gets a little Watch.

1:45:34 He gives I'm not denying I'm not denying the grease factor in

1:45:39 like watch the move there.

1:45:40 There's an angle there.

1:45:42 He knew what he was doing.

1:45:43 I know.

1:45:44 I I just as greasy as it was and I can't I think sometimes you can't Yeah,

1:45:49 you can't pick this apart about like

1:45:51 getting leverage or like there was only so much.

1:45:54 I don't know.

1:45:54 I just I I think I thought it was a greasy little play,

1:45:57 but I didn't think that there was much more than that there.

1:46:00 I I thought they got the call right.

1:46:01 It was a double minor.

1:46:03 Did he get clipped?

1:46:04 I thought he got fined today or something like that.

1:46:06 The gratuitous fine to put you on the books.

1:46:08 Put you on the books and move on.

1:46:10 But I I thought it was, you know, he came in.

1:46:12 Keep in mind that's tough to jump on a moving train.

1:46:15 Came in I thought played really well.

1:46:16 He's a he's a pain in the ass to play

1:46:18 against and I mean that in a real respectful way.

1:46:21 Like he's Manson's tough to play against.

1:46:23 One of my favorite Dmen in the league.

1:46:25 I was begging the least Anaheim traded him.

1:46:28 He looked pretty good in Anaheim.

1:46:30 Makes you he makes you pay a price.

1:46:32 That one I thought he just got clipped.

1:46:33 Him and McCarron's a big boy too and he was pissed about it.

1:46:37 Do you hear his interview in between periods?

1:46:39 He's like I'm glad they didn't kick him out.

1:46:40 Like I think he wanted to fight him.

1:46:42 Yeah, which is great, you know.

1:46:44 Well, we'll see what happens in uh in game five.

1:46:47 Um all right, confirmed or denied.

1:46:48 LeBron James returns to the NBA next season,

1:46:51 but not with the Lakers to get swept last night.

1:46:55 That's 100% confirmed, Brian.

1:46:57 Like he you know, you could tell by the comments

1:47:00 of a guy and I read a lot into them.

1:47:02 He would have blatantly came out and said,

1:47:06 "I'm going to know in the next couple days,

1:47:08 but I think it might be over." Like, it's not over, man.

1:47:11 He is going to play somewhere next year and it'll be

1:47:13 a whole new thing in a different season in a different city.

1:47:17 It wouldn't shock me if he went back to Cleveland again somehow.

1:47:20 Like it really that's an interesting thought like

1:47:23 people pointing to Golden State.

1:47:25 That's a big question.

1:47:25 Hayes Golden State.

1:47:27 What do you think him and at his age are going to be back?

1:47:31 Like who knows?

1:47:32 But yeah, but it'll be the jersey sales and it'll be a whole new thing.

1:47:36 Like it it'll be a crazy thing and it'll give him renewed life.

1:47:40 But he ain't I if I was him I would try

1:47:43 to jump on board like just do what Kevin Durant did.

1:47:46 Like just go say OKC you want me somewhere.

1:47:48 41.

1:47:49 Like OKC is a tough cell cuz they like

1:47:51 they actually don't need them which is crazy to say.

1:47:54 But they have they are so deep and they got draft picks still coming.

1:47:58 No, I know.

1:47:58 But if I was him, that's what I would do.

1:48:00 I'd be like I just want to do I want to pull a Kevin Durant and just go join a

1:48:04 What about the Knicks?

1:48:05 That's the team like New York.

1:48:06 He loves the Garden.

1:48:08 But you got to be careful if you're a team

1:48:09 that have that's young and like on the rise and a contender.

1:48:13 You're bringing in a massive That's why Golden State's the play.

1:48:16 That's why it's Golden State, maybe Cleveland, you know,

1:48:19 I don't know how they move money around to make that work for him after

1:48:22 you're talking about a potential of two to three markets

1:48:25 tops that could absorb this goes with it being the answer.

1:48:29 Is there an organization outside of winning and losing

1:48:32 that would just put up their arm and say,

1:48:34 you know, you and your son come play for us.

1:48:37 What?

1:48:37 But what would what's what's an organization that would be completely off

1:48:40 the board that is irre you telling me Bronny has to go with them?

1:48:46 No.

1:48:47 I'm just saying that as a marketing statement.

1:48:48 I'm saying it as a marketing ploy going like what what sells jersey?

1:48:52 20 teams in the league would do that.

1:48:54 They're all put their hand up and say Bronny, you know, LeBron and Bronny come.

1:48:58 you're Sacramento, if you're Charlotte, if you're Atlanta,

1:49:00 if you're like I could I could name a bunch of teams

1:49:03 that if you're if you just don't get the pub a lot.

1:49:05 If you're Memphis, if you're you know, you say, "Yeah, please come here.

1:49:08 Chicago, if you're So, if he leaves,

1:49:12 how long before Bronnie is playing Friday nights in the Polish Elite League?"

1:49:17 No, he's he had a pretty good year, Bronny.

1:49:21 Really?

1:49:20 Yes.

1:49:20 He's got He's got a chance to play.

1:49:24 I Bronnie I don't I think I think it's in his best interest to just

1:49:27 stay there and try to build your way up right JJ Reick knows him family friends

1:49:33 so you think he's a bonafide NBA player

1:49:35 I think he's got a chance to be a depth player

1:49:37 in the league like he's not going to be a star but could

1:49:39 he be a guy off the bench an eighth ninth guy

1:49:41 on a rotation I think he's got a chance to do that

1:49:44 I think he legitimately does but

1:49:46 he averaged nine minutes a game last year played 42 games

1:49:50 three points you know field goal percentage 41% guy in the league.

1:49:54 I'm not guaranteeing he has a 10ear career.

1:49:57 I'm gonna go I'm gonna go watch him play if he ends up in Poland, man.

1:50:00 Well, Luca's taking a lot of heat, man.

1:50:02 Like, cuz Luca was hurt and he came out after and said, "I wasn't that close."

1:50:07 But a lot of people are like, "Dude,

1:50:08 if you're even 50%, you got to get out there and play."

1:50:12 There's just nothing worse than the guy that's like, "Can't you try it?" Yeah.

1:50:16 Can you give us a shot?

1:50:17 We're in the second round here.

1:50:18 We could really use you.

1:50:19 Like, you you can't even try it.

1:50:21 You're just that I just bothered me.

1:50:23 The guy that said, "Yeah, I just it's not happening." It's like,

1:50:26 "Well, how the hell do you know?

1:50:28 Don't bother asking.

1:50:29 Check, please." All right, got a couple quick ones here.

1:50:32 Confirm or deny.

1:50:33 Gavin McKenna is the face of the Maple Leafs within the next three years.

1:50:37 I'm not I'm not I'm denying that because I

1:50:39 don't even know if they're going to pick him.

1:50:42 Okay.

1:50:42 They might not.

1:50:44 That's good for a deny.

1:50:45 If they're not going to take them, then this is a denial.

1:50:48 Wow.

1:50:47 Of course.

1:50:48 And that's why I said I'm denying it because I don't know 100% truth.

1:50:52 Everyone just gets caught up in flashing.

1:50:55 I I'm denying it to you because we don't know the status of 34 or 88.

1:51:00 So that's why that's why I'm denying it because

1:51:03 well that and that's valid because if Matthews is still here,

1:51:05 he'll be the king of the county.

1:51:06 Like if he's the captain and the man and he's here in three years.

1:51:10 Willie I I I find it hard to picture

1:51:13 a world where Matthews is gone and Willie stays.

1:51:16 You know, I just don't know how that works

1:51:19 from a from his standpoint or the organization standpoint,

1:51:23 but I think McKenna can can pass Knander.

1:51:26 Like, you get a first overall pick

1:51:27 and if he starts blossoming and playing great,

1:51:30 I don't know what his personality is going to be like,

1:51:33 I don't know how he's going to feel about

1:51:34 the bright lights of Toronto if they take him.

1:51:37 But, man, a first overall pick is generally a lock

1:51:40 to be from a marketing standpoint the man on the team.

1:51:43 You know, like more often than not that is the case.

1:51:47 I'm gonna confirm it.

1:51:48 I'm gonna go out there.

1:51:49 What if it takes him a couple years to Well, I probably will

1:51:52 settle it like Lefren or like you know costume.

1:51:56 I mean that's a bust in New York.

1:51:59 He is.

1:51:59 He's a bust.

1:52:02 He's a third line player.

1:52:04 He's a third line player and he's five years into the league or whatever.

1:52:07 Yeah, I guess.

1:52:08 Okay.

1:52:08 Slavosski took him three years, right, to get to get to what he is now.

1:52:13 You know, like it it might take a couple years.

1:52:15 So, I'm I'm still denying it because I think there'll be another face there.

1:52:19 All right.

1:52:19 Um, confirm or deny.

1:52:20 Someone not named Sheffller or Maroy will win the PGA Championship.

1:52:27 You know what?

1:52:27 I'm going to confirm that because I think that the man

1:52:32 that wears those size 21 sketchies and other people Fitzy, your boy Fitzy.

1:52:40 Fitzy.

1:52:40 Maybe even his brother Alex who's redhot right now.

1:52:45 You got to call somebody stinky old who who is it gonna be?

1:52:48 Stinky old stinky old Cam Young.

1:52:50 No, that's smelly old Brad Snedker winning that 46 years old.

1:52:55 what Steed's got up his sleeve.

1:52:58 Yeah, I feel for that Mark Hubard, dude.

1:53:00 He's been grinding on the tour for 30 years and he had that poor bastard.

1:53:04 I have seen that guy experience hard.

1:53:07 It seems like everyone crushes his soul.

1:53:11 Yeah,

1:53:10 he either melts coming down the stretch or something bad happens to old hubby.

1:53:14 Well, it's the mini putt putter.

1:53:16 He's got the guy.

1:53:17 It's the tiniest goofy.

1:53:20 I know.

1:53:21 Anyway, okay.

1:53:23 I'm going to confirm it as well.

1:53:24 I I'm on Cam Young watch big time.

1:53:27 I think Keepa's sniffing.

1:53:29 I think Brooks Kepka may have something to say this week.

1:53:32 Yeah, it seems like PGA and Keegan Bradley's won it before.

1:53:36 And I, you know, I'm Guys like that kind of step up and they play well on golf.

1:53:40 Well, it's probably a 20under tournament, you know,

1:53:42 like it very well could be who who could shoot the lights out.

1:53:45 Let's call Scotty Vale tomorrow from the golf

1:53:47 course and see what's up with the course.

1:53:49 Let's see.

1:53:50 Uh the Golf Report is driven by Subaru.

1:53:52 It's the all-weather drive main event.

1:53:55 Get uncommon value at your local Subaru

1:53:57 dealer where spring weather doesn't stand a chance.

1:54:01 All right, so our picks coming up tomorrow and best bet still to come as well.

1:54:06 But Jay's in action tonight.

1:54:08 They need a big start from Corbin.

1:54:09 They need a big They need a night from Vlatty and the boys.

1:54:12 Like they just have got to get the offense cooking.

1:54:15 Gimimenez was great last night,

1:54:17 but the rest of the bats are just they're just ice cold right now in Tampa.

1:54:21 Like they've beaten them four times in 10 days.

1:54:24 Tampa's a pretty good team.

1:54:25 Very good team.

1:54:26 You got Mlanahan going.

1:54:27 Like it's it's not going to be easy.

1:54:29 Overdrive continues.

1:54:30 TSN 1050 and up on YouTube live.

1:58:40 Now back to Overdrive with Hayes Noodles and the Odog.

1:58:49 Hazy, do me a favor.

1:58:50 Off the beaten path a little bit.

1:58:52 Talked a little bit about the NBA.

1:58:54 your next B listing because someone just posted it and it's

1:58:59 so incredible to look at it like almost on paper.

1:59:04 The Sheay Gildris trade with the Clippers and OKC is so outrageous.

1:59:13 Like if you just go through the details,

1:59:15 all the first round picks for Paul George.

1:59:20 Yeah, it's the undoubtedly the worst.

1:59:22 But here's what I want you to do.

1:59:23 The next V listing, I want you to have boards like

1:59:27 that available for the top five worst package deals in sports history.

1:59:33 Done.

1:59:34 Love that idea because cuz I don't know if you can get worse than that one.

1:59:39 I don't I don't think you can.

1:59:40 I mean, Sheay obviously by himself is much better than Paul George.

1:59:47 George was a great player.

1:59:48 Like Paul George is a really good player,

1:59:50 but Shay is about to win back-to-back MVPs.

1:59:53 I think they're probably going to win the championship.

1:59:55 He'll probably win Finals MVP again, scoring titles.

1:59:58 I mean, he's he's already moving up the list of like all-time greats.

2:00:02 And then on top of it, you know,

2:00:05 the other players that were thrown in, the picks, they still have picks.

2:00:08 Like the lottery just went down and they were sweating

2:00:11 whether or not they were going to get the pick.

2:00:13 Like the Clippers are still handing them over.

2:00:16 There were pick swaps galore.

2:00:17 It's It's unbelievable how bad that trade was.

2:00:20 Was that Bombler behind that one or was Yes.

2:00:23 Yes, it was Bomber.

2:00:24 It was Kawaii.

2:00:25 It was Kawaii really behind it.

2:00:27 This guy just swings for every like that's the one thing.

2:00:30 This guy has so much money.

2:00:32 Doesn't matter.

2:00:33 Like he just washes it.

2:00:34 I know, but Jamie that there's a situation where you're swinging

2:00:37 so hard you're putting the franchise at jeopardy for 10 years.

2:00:43 Like that is lunacy, man.

2:00:44 Kawi Leonard held their feet to the fire.

2:00:47 That's what happened is Kawhai said,

2:00:49 "I'm I'm not coming unless you bring Paul George with me."

2:00:53 And to the credit of Sam Prey and Oklahoma City,

2:00:56 they sniffed that out and realized you're so desperate.

2:01:00 Go ahead.

2:01:01 Like if you like cuz the Clippers have an inferiority

2:01:04 complex and remember it was the Lakers were in on Kawawaii

2:01:07 and the Raptors and the Raps had just won

2:01:09 the championship and he flew up and Kawhai played them like

2:01:12 a fiddle that I'm not coming there unless you trade

2:01:15 for George and OKC sniffed it out and said fine you

2:01:18 can have him but we're taking Gilis Alexander and we're

2:01:21 taking Galinari and we're taking five first rounders and pick swaps

2:01:25 and Bomber and company Lawrence Frank said screw it we

2:01:28 got to do it if we want pretty damn cool because the belief was they were asking

2:01:34 the same thing out of the Raptors that Kawhai

2:01:37 said you got to bring Paul George in and it was going to be like

2:01:39 Van Vleet and Seakum and five first rounders

2:01:43 and all that to keep Kawhai and Messiah

2:01:46 just said that's enough get the hell out of here like we're not doing it.

2:01:49 Yeah.

2:01:50 Anyway, everyone's got that moment where you just say get the hell out of here.

2:01:54 Yeah.

2:01:54 Like we know you're playing us here and it's just not going to work.

2:01:58 Like I've heard some intimate details about some

2:02:01 of the contracts and the wants and needs about specific things.

2:02:04 It is beyond outrage.

2:02:06 You wouldn't even like I think the guy that goes

2:02:08 to work hard every day would not believe some of the asks.

2:02:11 Like it it's you wouldn't believe it.

2:02:15 But you wouldn't ask unless you thought you could get it.

2:02:18 I know.

2:02:18 But even like I was in pro sports for a long

2:02:21 time and it's still it was crazy the stuff I've heard.

2:02:24 The Jan Sodto deal is the best example.

2:02:26 Oh my god.

2:02:27 750 million.

2:02:29 But then tweets and tickets plus.

2:02:33 Yeah, exactly.

2:02:33 You know, airplanes and this and that and hey,

2:02:36 we're supposed to get shirts every other week.

2:02:38 It's just crazy.

2:02:40 Uh best bets powered by FanDuel.

2:02:42 Make your picks and assemble the same game

2:02:43 parlay in seconds on the FanDuel sportsbook app.

2:02:45 And the Mets are the worst team in baseball.

2:02:47 And when he was hurt, they're like, "Hey,

2:02:49 you keeping up with your teammates?" "No, I haven't talked to him yet." Well,

2:02:52 isn't there GM some kind of uh whiz kid where Pete Alonzo

2:02:56 has been tuning up him where he's just like you and your formulas.

2:03:00 How's that going with your formulas?

2:03:02 Not so good.

2:03:04 Wow.

2:03:03 I'm on Jay's money line and Vlatty two hits tonight.

2:03:07 I'm on Vlatty to break out.

2:03:09 I know it's been ugly.

2:03:10 He's over.

2:03:11 I know what you're going to do with that.

2:03:12 You're going to do it every day until he gets it.

2:03:14 Yeah.

2:03:14 At some point he's going to break out.

2:03:16 Like at some point he's going to have a four for five night,

2:03:18 three for five night.

2:03:20 Um, so I'm on I'm on Vlatty to He's got to get off this night.

2:03:23 He's too good.

2:03:24 It's just been terrible.

2:03:25 Like it's been awful.

2:03:27 Best bets powered by FanDuel.

2:03:28 Same game parlay is available for every MLB game on the FanDuel sportsbook app.

2:03:32 Please play responsibly.

2:03:33 Must be 19 plus physically located in Ontario.

2:03:37 All right, Jays Rays, couple of hockey games.

2:03:39 Mitch Marner, we'll see.

2:03:40 Can he get to 20 points tonight during his playoff run?

2:03:43 Can he hit 20 tonight?

2:03:45 Never know.

2:03:45 We'll see pivotal game five.

2:03:47 Big game five tonight, man.

2:03:49 Yeah.

2:03:49 So, we look forward to breaking that down.

2:03:52 And PGA Championship picks coming up tomorrow.

2:03:54 Maroy dealing with some blister issues.

2:03:58 Mroy might be a bit dicey.

2:03:59 I'm sure I don't like any kind of just it's already there's a builtin excuse.

2:04:04 That's it.

2:04:05 That's not good.

2:04:07 Yeah.

2:04:06 All right, boys.

2:04:07 Good stuff.

2:04:07 Thanks to everyone behind the scenes for helping out.
