solo traveling in Singapore vlog | best attractions, local food & more
Celine ♡
0:00 Welcome [music] to Singapore, where hawker stalls,
0:03 world famous attractions, and vibrant cultures all come together.
0:07 This is the furthest that I've ever traveled alone,
0:09 and the start of [music] my twoe solo
0:11 trip in Southeast Asia that I've been dreaming of.
0:14 So, in this vlog, I'm exploring Singapore's well-loved [music] spots,
0:17 wandering through the most charming neighborhoods and cafes,
0:20 and everything in between.
0:22 So, let's get into it.
0:28 [music] To get there,
0:30 I took a 16 and 1/2 hour flight and finally landed in Singapore.
0:36 [music] And of course, I landed at the infamous Changi Airport.
0:42 And it connects directly to an entire mall called Jewel,
0:45 which is home of the world's tallest indoor waterfall.
0:48 I've dreamed of seeing this in person for so long,
0:50 so this truly felt like a surreal first stop.
0:57 [music] [music] I got myself a matcha, which is very on brand.
1:15 This matcha spot does matcha on tap.
1:17 But not only do they have matcha,
1:19 they also have my second favorite thing in the whole wide world,
1:22 which is a mochi donut.
1:24 This place, by the way, is called Sugar Belly.
1:27 I'm currently in the food court area, which is in the basement.
1:30 There are a lot of sit-down restaurants,
1:31 but from what I've heard, those are a little bit more pricey.
1:35 So, if you just want to grab a bite and you're not looking for any fine dining,
1:38 I think there's a lot of really good options down here.
1:41 Now, let's try this mochi donut.
1:44 It's a little pocky.
1:46 That is very good.
1:58 Aside from the vortex and the food court, Juul is honestly huge.
2:02 There are so many things to explore.
2:04 You could absolutely spend an entire day here if you wanted to.
2:08 But for me, it was time to finally head into the city.
2:18 [music] I've checked into my hotel now and got myself freshened up.
2:25 Also took a nap.
2:26 I'm staying at Life Funan, which is actually a mall.
2:29 I didn't really realize when I was looking at the pictures.
2:32 I thought it was like adjacent to the mall,
2:34 but it's fully embedded inside the mall, which is actually kind of cool.
2:38 I think the 16-hour flight might have been a little bit exhausting.
2:42 Also, I think the jet lag is trying to consume me right now.
2:45 So, I had like a 15-minute nap.
2:47 Passed out.
2:48 Okay.
2:48 I could have slept through the rest of the night,
2:50 but that's not going to do me any good.
2:52 So, I got myself ready and we're going to head out.
2:54 It's going to be clear for the rest of the night,
2:56 which is very promising because it's going to be
2:58 a little bit rainy for the following days.
3:00 What I've heard is that it does get rainy around this time of year.
3:04 So, as I'm visiting now, it's November, and the following days,
3:07 it looks like it'll be raining on and off.
3:08 What I did not mention yet in this video
3:10 is this is my first destination out of multiple places.
3:14 I'm going to be visiting Thailand after
3:15 this, which I'm also very, very excited about.
3:18 So stay tuned if you do want to check out those videos.
3:20 So Singapore obviously is a city.
3:22 First impressions, I'm very, very impressed.
3:25 It is very, very humid.
3:26 I'm hoping that my body adjusts very quickly because it was rough.
3:30 Okay, I walked like three blocks to the hotel
3:32 and my whole shirt was covered in sweat.
3:34 But that's neither here nor there.
3:36 That's expected.
3:37 It's very cool to see a lot of businesses
3:38 here and a lot of international brands here.
3:41 We already know that Singapore is such a hub for business,
3:44 but coming here and seeing it in real life, I really do get that feeling.
3:47 And it's so modern, so clean.
3:49 There were people literally sweeping the inside of the mall.
3:52 So, all those things that I'd heard very much I can feel since coming here.
3:56 And I'm excited to continue exploring.
3:58 Tonight, I want to take it easy, but I do need to get out and I need
4:01 to keep myself busy because I cannot succumb to the jet lag.
4:11 [music]
4:22 I am going to try to go to Pat, which is one of the most popular hawker stands.
4:28 It has all of the skewers and saté.
4:29 [music] [music] [music] [music] Heat.
4:46 Heat.
4:50 [music] [music] I end up going to Best Sate number eight.
5:18 I think I went to the right one.
5:19 It was the busiest.
5:20 I also got a fresh sugar cane.
5:23 If you haven't had one of these before, it is so refreshing.
5:26 Perfect for a humid, hot evening.
5:29 I look like a disaster right now, but it's okay.
5:32 I got chicken and beef.
5:40 The sauce is always the best part.
5:45 [music] [music] [music]
6:08 Good morning you guys.
6:09 I am just getting a bite at one of the most
6:12 popular and staple breakfasts in Singapore which is Kaya toast.
6:16 So, this is a chain.
6:18 And as I would have it,
6:19 there's actually one right inside the mall where my hotel is.
6:22 So, I got one of the sets.
6:23 And of course, I got an iced coffee instead
6:25 of a traditional hot coffee because I am an iced coffee person.
6:29 I've never had this before, but basically,
6:31 they serve you this egg and then you're meant to dip your toast into it.
6:35 I did get a peanut toast.
6:37 I don't know.
6:37 I wanted to try it with peanut butter.
6:39 So, let's give this a try.
6:41 I'm a little bit nervous about what to expect.
6:47 I also see people putting soy sauce in their eggs,
6:51 but because I got peanut butter,
6:52 I kind of didn't want to mix that flavor together.
6:54 But this is really good.
6:56 It's so simple, but very, very tasty.
7:05 [music] [music] Transit here is pretty easy.
7:20 I just took one bus and then I'm now in Little India.
7:22 It's very cool to feel so immersed in another culture.
7:26 And honestly, you just don't get that in North America.
7:29 So, I'm absolutely loving it.
7:31 Thankfully, I think it stopped raining for the rest of the day.
7:33 So, we are going to do some walking around.
7:38 [music] [music] I remember there was someone I was talking to once who
7:47 had been to Singapore and he was like, "It was fine,
7:50 but why would I go to Little India when I can just
7:53 go to the real thing?" And I get what he means because yes,
7:57 you can obviously go to the real thing.
7:59 But how cool is it that there's a place
8:01 where you can see so many different cultures.
8:04 [music] [music] After wandering through Little India,
8:18 I made my way to [music] another popular spot, Lane.
8:21 This honestly ended up being one of my favorite areas of the [music] trip.
8:32 [music] This is my favorite street that I've come down so far.
8:42 [music] [music] I'm veryed the camera shop
8:54 doesn't open on Mondays and it's Monday today.
8:57 So, I think I'm going to have to come back tomorrow maybe.
9:00 I don't know.
9:02 That's very disappointing.
9:03 So, they basically have like a bunch of vintage cameras,
9:05 which are usually super hard to find.
9:07 So, I definitely want to go there, but I guess I'll have to come back for that.
9:11 Either way, this street is super duper cute.
9:14 I'm obsessed with it.
9:16 [music] [music] Another fun popular activity
9:25 at Lane are all the unique photo booths.
9:28 Even though I was alone, I still [music] wanted to try one.
9:30 So, I went to Solo Studio, which has a super cool elevator theme.
9:36 [music] [music] Then, for a totally different vibe,
9:44 I wandered to the Arab Quarter.
9:46 And I really love walking around and [music]
9:48 just experiencing such a different cultural feel.
9:55 I have stopped into the Coconut Club.
9:58 This has been on my list because apparently their coconut shakes are
10:01 to die for and I'm ready to just sit and enjoy a little bite.
10:05 You can get this without coffee.
10:06 I [music] did add coffee to it.
10:08 That is so refreshing.
10:11 And then I don't really know what I got.
10:13 They're going to be closing the kitchen soon.
10:15 So I basically panicked and was like, let me just get something small.
10:17 Let me actually see what this is called.
10:19 I ordered Qi QP Thai.
10:23 It's a crispy hot shell with cuttlefish, shrimps, baby lobster.
10:28 I'm not that hungry right now and I still wanted to get the coconut shake,
10:31 so I just thought I'd get something small.
10:40 That is really, really good.
10:42 Wow.
10:42 I can only imagine the rest of the food here must be phenomenal.
10:55 At [music] this point in the day, I was honestly just trying to escape the heat.
10:59 Definitely plan to stay indoors during those peak hours,
11:02 unless you're ready to be humbled by the humidity,
11:04 which I kind of was to be honest.
11:06 So, I ended up wandering around the Bugus area,
11:08 [music] which is packed with all types of shops and thankfully AC.
11:15 [music] Next up was another one of my favorite areas, Singapore's Chinatown.
11:23 [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music]
12:02 I have got the infamous Hainanese chicken.
12:04 There is one that's really popular.
12:06 It's called Tianen.
12:08 And unfortunately, Tian is closed on Mondays.
12:11 Thankfully, there's a bunch of other chicken rice spots around here.
12:13 And this one is called A Thai.
12:15 Apparently, I was watching another YouTuber and she was saying that this place
12:19 is actually open by one of the old chefs from Chen Chan.
12:22 So, it's also very popular and they are open.
12:25 So, that's what I got.
12:29 Is so tasty.
12:30 Don't know if it's cuz I'm super hungry right now or what.
12:33 Also, I do notice that a bunch of other spots are closed.
12:35 Like, you can see behind me that those stalls would usually be open.
12:39 So, I'm guessing if you come on the weekend or not Monday,
12:42 then there would be more spots open.
12:43 But that's okay.
12:44 I'm just glad that I got to at least try one of them.
12:46 This was my second pick anyways.
12:48 So freaking good.
12:52 [music] [music] [music] Yeah, very good.
13:13 It's delicious.
13:15 [music] It is day three in Singapore and we have a very exciting day ahead.
13:25 I'm going to be going to Gardens by the Bay and that is
13:28 one of the top places that people go to when they visit Singapore.
13:31 One of the highlights from yesterday, I got to say,
13:33 was picking up this cute little vintage Digi Cam.
13:36 There's a couple places in Lane that do sell these types of cameras.
13:40 I'm sure most of you guys have seen how popular
13:42 these types of cameras have gotten because they have the flash.
13:45 The colors just look very unique compared to your phone.
13:49 I really wanted to get one of these.
13:50 And you can always order them on like Facebook Marketplace or eBay and stuff,
13:54 but the difference is you could actually go
13:57 in and play with these cameras at the store.
13:59 So, there was another store that was closed when I went,
14:01 but this one was open and they were super friendly and kind.
14:05 I got the Lumix FX30 and I love how the pictures
14:10 turn out and I'm having so much fun taking photos.
14:13 So, this has been a nice little addition and I
14:15 can't wait to use this for the rest of the trip.
14:17 I also got this little strap.
14:18 It's very hard to resist shopping here,
14:20 but knowing that I'm going to be in Thailand in a few days,
14:22 I'm trying my best to just hold off.
14:26 [music] We have made it to this bakery and it is the cutest freaking thing.
14:38 Everything looks so good.
14:40 It is called Tong Baru Bakery and it's
14:43 nestled inside of this park called Fort Canning Park.
14:46 It looks like on the map that there is even a reservoir, tons of little trails.
14:50 There's a garden inside.
14:52 I just walked straight from the hotel and it was like only 9 minute walk.
14:55 But I'm actually starving, so I got the salmon croissant, which looks delicious.
15:00 And then I also couldn't help myself.
15:02 I saw the sweets and I needed something for dessert.
15:05 And this is a salted egg cruffin, which looks unreal.
15:08 Salted egg is also something that Singapore is known for, I think.
15:12 So, it seems like something that I should try.
15:15 I had to get a drink, of course.
15:16 And this is the pistachio matcha.
15:22 That is so tasty.
15:23 And then I need to sip of my [clears throat] matcha.
15:31 Oh my god, that is delicious.
15:34 Wow.
15:35 So far, 10 out of 10.
15:36 The only reason I found this place is
15:38 cuz I was looking for places around my hotel,
15:41 and that's one of my favorite things to do is just to save them,
15:43 and then if I end up walking past, then I'll stop in.
15:47 And this was a fantastic find.
15:49 [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] We have made it to the super trees.
16:22 I'm honestly at a loss for words,
16:25 but the place that I'm at I actually found on Instagram,
16:27 so it's one of those hidden photo spots.
16:30 I will put a link to the reel that I saw,
16:32 but basically this gives you the perfect angle of the trees.
16:36 The nicest ladies just took some photos
16:38 for me that I think turned out super cute.
16:41 So, you might be able to see behind me,
16:42 but there is a bit of a walkway that is ticketed.
16:45 So, I bought a ticket and we're going to head up there in a second.
16:47 But you basically get to walk in between the trees, which is super cool.
16:51 I'm not afraid of heights, but if you are, then maybe that's not super cool.
16:54 They also do a light show at night time,
16:56 but so far I feel like it's just such a cool area to walk around.
16:59 Definitely worth the trip.
17:01 I'm really glad that I made time to come here.
17:03 [music] [music] [music] [music] We have made it inside the cloud forest.
17:41 If you're wondering what the noise is behind me,
17:43 there is currently a Jurassic Park themed [snorts] event right now.
17:46 So, you can also find little dinosaurs scattered throughout the garden.
17:49 This is the ticketed attraction.
17:51 So, I got the ticket for this and also the Flower Dome,
17:54 which is right next door.
17:55 It is so stunning inside.
17:57 I just think it's kind of funny that there's
17:58 like random dinosaur noises everywhere that I go.
18:03 [music]
18:12 [music] [music] [music]
18:36 I've decided to leave the garden area now.
18:39 I ended up getting a little bite at Shake Shack because if I'm being honest,
18:43 I was not feeling that great after the Flower Dome.
18:46 They had a pandan shake at Shake Shack, you guys.
18:49 So, I tried that and low key, it brought me back to life.
18:52 But, I'm still not feeling 100%.
18:54 So, I'm going to walk back towards the station
18:57 cuz I think that's where everything connects to.
19:00 And then I'm going to try to go to Marina Bay Sands.
19:03 From there, there is a viewpoint.
19:05 I don't know how much it costs to go up there.
19:07 So, depending on how much it is,
19:08 I feel like I should try to go cuz I'm already here.
19:11 But we'll see.
19:12 But am I lost?
19:24 [music] Is it just me or does it feel like the malls in Singapore make
19:33 the malls in Canada and the United States look like third world country malls?
19:41 [music] Last full day in Singapore.
19:49 I've had a really, really good time here except for yesterday.
19:52 So, basically after I was at the gardens, I was wandering around.
19:56 I think I told you guys that I wasn't feeling great.
19:58 I was basically trying to get up to the sky park at Marina Bay Sands,
20:02 but because there was lightning and it was starting to storm,
20:05 they actually closed it.
20:06 So, I did not get to go up there.
20:07 So, I ended up having a really early night.
20:09 I came back.
20:10 I did some laundry.
20:11 I got some McDonald's for today.
20:13 I was originally planning to go to Universal Studios because it was on my list.
20:17 And then I was also going to explore Sentosa Island because it's
20:20 one of those places that people have said you should definitely check out.
20:23 If I'm being honest, I [laughter] wasn't really feeling that motivated to go.
20:28 And it felt more like I was trying to fit
20:30 something in because other people said I should do it.
20:33 And that made me realize like I'm here on my own trip.
20:36 There's going to be certain things that I'm not going to get to do.
20:38 I'm the type of person if I really want to do something, I will make it happen.
20:42 But there are just some things that I don't have as much interest in.
20:46 I made the executive decision that I'm going to just have a very chill day.
20:50 I have some places that I still want to check
20:52 out that I didn't get the chance to yet.
20:53 And this is my trip.
20:54 I'm going to do what I want to do.
20:56 And if that means just hanging out and not checking
20:58 every single thing off of the list, then that's that.
21:00 So, that being said, I'm going to jump onto one of these buses
21:02 and we're actually going to head back toward the Chinatown area.
21:06 There's a couple streets that I want to wander through,
21:08 which I didn't get the chance to do last time.
21:10 But my first stop, I really need to get a bun.
21:14 Not just any bun, but a pineapple bun.
21:17 [music] [music] [music] I am so excited.
21:35 I got this bun.
21:36 This is actually a limited edition bun.
21:39 They have a pork inside.
21:40 It looks like it's a collaboration with another restaurant in Singapore.
21:44 If you guys haven't heard of these before,
21:46 this is called a pineapple bun or in Cantonese,
21:49 Halaba, which is not made of pineapple,
21:53 but the top resembles obviously what a pineapple looks like.
21:56 I'm curious to know what this is going to taste
21:58 like because the pork inside is also slightly sweet.
22:00 So, I feel like this is going to be the perfect combination.
22:03 You can, of course, just get the regular bun, which is what I was going to do.
22:06 And then they also have the Champion iced coffee.
22:09 Growing up, I used to always have pineapple buns.
22:11 They were my favorite thing to get at the bakery.
22:14 And this place is basically fully known for their buns.
22:20 [music] [music] That is delicious.
22:34 [music]
22:37 Like I said, for the rest of the day, I just wanted to keep things low-key.
22:41 So, [music] I checked out some of the most notable neighborhoods in Singapore.
22:44 Starting with Duxen Hill, [music] which is full of character and known
22:48 for their boutique shops and even cute bookstores, which you know I love.
22:52 [music] [music] [music] [music] You guys, I can smell the turion from here.
23:23 [music] I absolutely love durian.
23:35 I feel like it's a lovehate relationship
23:37 because it is a very very strong flavor,
23:40 but I grew up eating it and it is my favorite.
23:50 [music] [music] I am so glad that I came this way.
24:13 Everything is so cute.
24:15 I think I'm realizing like this is definitely my favorite
24:18 way to explore a city is just walking through the neighborhoods,
24:22 looking at the buildings, stopping into little boutiques and shops.
24:27 And now I've just reached one of the most iconic streets in Singapore,
24:30 which is Kusang Road.
24:33 [music] [music] [music]
25:04 Guys, I literally just stumbled across that coffee shop randomly.
25:09 I didn't even know it was there, but I saw the line and I decided
25:13 it must be good because everyone's waiting for it.
25:15 And it was so delicious.
25:17 One of the best coffees I've had in a really long time.
25:22 [music] After [music] exploring Duch neighborhood,
25:34 I did end up going back to the Maxwell Hawker Center.
25:36 If I could have eaten here every meal every day, I probably would have.
25:41 And I definitely want to try to explore other
25:43 hawker centers [music] the next time that I visit.
25:51 [music] Yeah, my last night in Singapore ended
25:55 in one of the awardwinning cocktail bars, Sago [music] House.
25:59 I really love this evening and I thought it was the perfect way to end my trip.
26:03 I got to chat with the nicest bar staff.
26:05 And if you're a fan of cocktails and are
26:07 looking for a more low-key vibe, this is your spot.
26:10 Their menu changes every single week, which I think is super impressive.
26:13 So, I feel like there's a little bit of something for everyone.
26:15 [music] I even got to leave with a souvenir.
26:21 [music] That wraps up my time in Singapore.
26:32 This place has been on my list since around 2018 when I first
26:35 watched Crazy Rich Asians and I told myself one day I'm going to visit.
26:40 And one day finally came.
26:42 Even though I didn't check every single place off the list,
26:44 I did feel really happy with this part of the trip.
26:47 Stay tuned for the next vlogs where I'll
26:50 be heading to three destinations in [music] Thailand.
26:53 Make sure to like this video if you
26:54 haven't yet and thank you so much for watching.
26:56 I'll catch you in the next one.
26:59 [music]
