here are some things i thrifted in nyc :)

bestdressed

0:02 [Music] hey guys so it's been a while yeah that's

0:16 because unexpectedly there's just incredibly

0:19 loud construction in my apartment building

0:21 for an entire month so that's great anyways the construction workers

0:25 are like on a lunch break right now so i'm gonna

0:27 record this video as fast as possible before they get

0:29 back and can hear me through the incredibly thin walls

0:32 of my apartment complex uh just talking to myself about thrifty

0:34 clothing currently i have a large and ever-growing colony of thrifted floor

0:39 thrifted floor thrifted clothes waiting on my floor to show

0:42 you guys but first here's a little tour of my favorite

0:45 thrift stores in new york and where i got just tell

0:47 me what you want from me i don't know what happened

0:50 i don't know how we got here [Music] so my favorite

0:54 spot for thrifting is right off the morgan avenue stop

0:56 in bushwick where there are two massive thrift stores on the same

1:00 block for maximum thrifting efficiency the first is el train vintage

1:03 where prices run from around 10 for a t-shirt to 40

1:06 for a leather jacket unfortunately it's definitely more expensive than

1:09 goodwill or salvation army but in exchange they have a pretty

1:12 well curated selection so i think the price is kind

1:14 of fair for what you get particularly the men's section

1:17 in the fall and winter absolutely snaps with preppy quarter zips

1:21 and sweaters and vintage jackets and corduroy and denim and leather

1:25 and like literally any fabric you can dream of can you tell

1:28 i'm getting a little bit turned on just talking about it

1:30 [Music] the other thrift store right around the corner is called

1:35 urban jungle which is much larger and much less expensive

1:38 the prices here run around five to ten dollars for a t-shirt

1:41 ten dollars for jeans and dresses and ten to twenty dollars

1:44 for jackets the first time i walked in here my little

1:46 thrifting heart almost exploded because it's literally just like a warehouse

1:50 full of clothes i honestly don't think my clips do

1:52 it justice it is so huge it can be pretty

1:55 overwhelming because there's so much stuff to look through but i've

1:58 always had good luck finding some fancy vintage pieces in the dress

2:00 section if i don't want to pop out to brooklyn

2:05 my go-to in manhattan is surprise surprise another l train

2:08 vintage this one is an east village and it's definitely smaller

2:11 and more expensive than the bushwick locations because well just about

2:14 everything is smaller and more expensive in manhattan but it still

2:17 manages to cram a pretty sizable selection between its two

2:20 floors i usually have the most luck searching for graphic tees

2:23 and jackets here [Music] there's also a goodwill near union square

2:27 that i've gotten a couple things from it's super well organized

2:30 but the selection is pretty small and largely consists of clothes

2:33 from like the 2000s and 2010s from brands like j

2:36 crew banana republic madewell american eagle rather than those like super

2:40 old funky obscure vintage pieces that i'm usually on the hunt

2:43 for it is a really great spot though if you're

2:46 looking for more modern or professional clothes and lastly i also

2:49 did some thrifting randomly out in like the northern new jersey

2:52 suburbs i forgot to get video footage so i only have

2:54 these super cringy photos i took in the car but honestly

2:57 i found some really cool stuff there and in my opinion

3:00 a fancy new york thrift store will never be the stuff

3:02 you can find for like five dollars in a suburban goodwill

3:05 and that concludes my thrift store tour here's the haul you

3:11 see what i'm saying about the construction noise so the first

3:13 thing i got is this blue quilted jacket i don't

3:16 know why i nearly just forgot the word jacket there um

3:19 it's been a smooth brain year for me i'm going

3:21 to be honest it has a contrast corduroy collar princess caroline i

3:27 am coming for your alliteration game you guys know i am

3:30 a hoe for anything corduroy and i love how it made

3:32 the collar really stand out on the jacket i also

3:34 really like this kind of triangular silhouette it like flares out

3:37 at the bottom it kind of reminds me of like

3:39 the 60s jackie kennedy and or an animal crossing character take

3:44 your pick underneath i'm wearing this lacoste sweater that i

3:47 also thrifted this is just a v-neck sweater that's pretty easy

3:50 to find in the men's section but what i do to style

3:53 it is i layer a colored shirt underneath and then i

3:56 kind of just like pull up the hem and then drape

3:59 the sweater over itself so it crops the length a little

4:02 bit and then with a skirt and some boots you have

4:05 that like trendy school girl look uh that's like a little

4:08 bit pedophilic but um just to the extent that society

4:11 will tolerate it here's the jacket styled pants it's a little

4:14 more casual but still gives me big like young hillary clinton

4:18 vibes this outfit really says i'm ready to dedicate my entire

4:21 life's work to becoming an incredibly intelligent well-read and thoughtful

4:25 politician and still somehow lose the presidency to a reality tv

4:29 star they ask you how you are you just have

4:31 to say that you're fine and you're not really fine recently i've

4:33 had pretty good luck in the men's section finding like

4:35 preppy men's quarter zips i don't know what you would call

4:39 this blues clues cosplay owning a yacht cosplay actually understanding

4:43 the rules of water polo cosplay

4:45 being emotionally unavailable cosplay young republicans

4:49 club cosplay real talk my sexuality almost entirely revolves around

4:54 movies of men in suits think joseph gordon-levitt in inception suits

4:59 the tv show which is kind of self-explanatory [Music] for some

5:07 reason i cannot for the life of me think of a third

5:09 movie where a man wears a suit even though i'm

5:12 pretty sure it's nearly all of them point is nothing tickles

5:15 my[ __] peach like a man in business where but little

5:18 did i know when i moved to la that la is

5:20 an absolute desert of men in anything closely resembling business

5:25 wear i did not see a man in khakis khakis

5:29 for three years until one day when i was walking around

5:33 campus and i saw like a group of three handsome dudes

5:36 in khakis and i was like this is my chance

5:39 this is my chance turns out that they were promoting the young

5:42 republicans club i did still[ __] one of them though

5:47 [Music] girl look at me in this dress look at me

5:52 in this dress yes i did fold the hem about three

5:55 inches higher so it would barely cover my ass because if

5:58 you don't accidentally flash someone a little bit of your ass

6:01 during a new year's party what did jesus die for it's

6:04 velvet it's got a little sparkly detail around the top

6:07 um the puff sleeve this is kind of a grown-up version

6:11 of that dress and is what i would wear if i

6:14 were like the president in a political drama trying to tell russia

6:18 to stop making such weird memes about our elections i

6:22 love this dramatic neckline though and the peplum i feel like

6:24 this is a dress that will look way better on me

6:26 once i'm like 40 or 50 and i'm like sophisticated confident stop

6:33 taking[ __] from men will that ever happen i don't

6:36 know let's find out but when it does i will wear

6:38 this dress it truly would not be a thrift haul in 2020

6:41 without a sweater vest i got this one from the men's

6:43 section and it's a little oversized but luckily for me

6:46 my one special talent is stuffing a truly obscene amount of fabric

6:49 into my pants the key is like you reach down

6:52 and you smooth it all the way down your butt like

6:55 don't let it bunch up around the waistband you just

6:58 want one layer of fabric going all the way down then

7:00 you pull out the edges it around a little bit i

7:04 like to bring some of the excess fabric towards the back

7:06 so it's not so wrinkly in the front zip

7:08 your pants all the way up because you forgot to do

7:10 that and there you go it's a little poofy up here

7:13 in the back but at least it doesn't look like i shout

7:16 myself so i'll take it the shirt i'm wearing underneath

7:19 well bam surprise has also thrifted who would have guessed it

7:22 who would have thought not me this is a little silky

7:24 number from ann taylor loft i thought the cut of it

7:27 was so gorgeous and feminine and i love the little

7:30 ruching detail on this sleeve i just already know this is

7:33 going to be such a good staple in my wardrobe i'm

7:35 going to be able to wear it with jackets with pants

7:37 with skirts with dresses with underwear it's so versatile sorry

7:43 i'm like kind of losing it because i just realized how

7:46 like contrived the way that you're supposed to talk about fashion

7:50 on the internet is and like then when i start saying

7:53 stuff like oh it's so cute and it would go

7:55 so well with denim i'm like oh[ __] no i'm that's

7:58 not my actual voice that's just me talking in the pre-established

8:02 vernacular of fashion youtube that i've been watching for years

8:06 that have also been talking in for years um so that's

8:09 my weekly existential crisis what's yours share in the comments below

8:14 anyhow i thought this top was cute and it reminds me

8:16 of something that like zoe de chanel's character in 500 days

8:19 of summer would wear which for some reason i have internalized

8:21 as kind of the pinnacle of all style hence the bang

8:24 and my deep-rooted attraction to angsty white boys i also

8:28 thrifted this jacket i thought it was just a really unique

8:30 cut it's got puff sleeves it's got a peplum it also

8:33 has this tartan lining which i thought was so cool so

8:36 in order to match the lining i paired it with some

8:38 corduroy pants some polka dots just to like add different patterns

8:41 and textures i don't know here's another way i'd style

8:43 this jacket with some matching boots and a purse and a dress

8:47 i'm just naming things that you can see on screen

8:49 this reminds me of something that blair waldorf would wear

8:51 in gossip girl when she's trying to be down to earth

8:54 and casual when she goes to visit brooklyn also can we

8:57 just talk about the fact that in gossip girl they completely

9:00 ignored the fact that the distance between the upper east side

9:04 and brooklyn is like an hour by like several different

9:08 trains also the fact that dan's family lives in such

9:11 a nice loft in brooklyn that there's definitely no way

9:14 his dad could afford because it would be like seven thousand dollars

9:16 a month and even more unrealistic the fact that they never

9:20 saw a full pack of rats running across the street hi

9:26 ma'am sorry do you need a very specific allen ranch

9:30 that i will never use again but for some reason have saved

9:33 and will probably never throw out one invisalign tray that i

9:36 lost the other side of or this ear canal disinfectant

9:38 that cost 264 dollars without health insurance but i still had

9:42 to buy and only use for one week oh you do

9:46 thank god well good thing i had these overalls yeah i

9:50 got these overalls bob the builder wishes he had this style

9:53 they look like this the legs are nice and flowy

9:56 which i actually find kind of weirdly comforting it reminds me

9:59 of like when a hoodie is oversized and it goes

10:01 over your hands that's like this but for my feet one

10:04 of the straps is broken but i've just been tying it

10:06 in a knot because i'm too lazy to fix it right now

10:10 i've mostly been styling it either with just a bra

10:13 and leaving this little sexual overall side of my torso cut out

10:18 or i go full-on mario and style it with this red

10:22 leather red leather jacket red leather yellow leather i was only

10:27 a theater kid for like one year so i don't

10:30 remember the rest of that i can still zip that like

10:32 a[ __] though zip zap anyhow i really like this leather

10:38 jacket i love how bold it is um i put

10:41 my i voted sticker on it because it matched the color

10:43 scheme and because i love to value signal that i voted

10:46 in this election just like everybody else on the internet

10:49 the past couple months i must have been blessed by the leather

10:51 jacket gods or something because i also found this one

10:58 look at that my dude it has pink racer stripes

11:01 and a little corset lace-up detail this leather jacket is honestly

11:05 like cooler than i am like if i went to high school

11:08 with this leather jacket i would not be invited

11:10 to their parties also just by coincidence i already happen to own

11:13 this top which matches the color scheme of this jacket perfectly

11:17 it even has the exact same little style of pink inserts so

11:20 i thought they went really well together i feel really cool

11:22 in this outfit i feel like a spice girl or like

11:26 a sexy power ranger so the things i thrift generally

11:29 fall into one of three categories first basics that i wear

11:32 all the time they go with anything second statement pieces

11:35 that i have to build an outfit around and thirdly absolutely absurd

11:39 vintage dresses that i have no reason to wear or to own

11:42 but i just saw them and went ooh pretty i

11:44 want that so yeah this is a dress that i own

11:47 now i don't know why but i like it a lot

11:50 it has this incredible ruched bodice with a floral embroidery

11:53 detail and it came with this strap of fabric i don't

11:58 really know what to call this um and i thought

12:00 it was kind of dumb but then i laid it over

12:02 my shoulders and all of a sudden understood the drama this is

12:06 essentially the fabric equivalent of holding a spatula in your hand

12:09 for emphasis how dare you insult me at my own

12:12 ball papa fetch the chickens from the back oh archibald if

12:17 only you did what you did to me oh thank you

12:21 thank you that was my audition for disney's next multicultural princess

12:25 it's the exact same plotline they've made for hundreds of years

12:28 and she still kind of has eurocentric features but it's refreshing

12:32 and diverse because she's mixed oh[ __] what if i like

12:35 draped it like a cape excuse me excuse me that is

12:41 so cute i thought this dress was cool because it

12:45 has a flower embroidered on it look at how ridiculously huge

12:48 that flower is it's so cute and i paired it

12:50 with my funky strappy loafers and i thought maybe i would add

12:53 one [Music] little statement bag like this one that i

13:01 also thrifted okay my caffeine high is officially wearing off

13:04 and the construction workers are going to come back in a second

13:07 so speed round of tops that i've drifted this vintage pink

13:10 one for tea time with my british grandmother she's dead

13:13 now but let's ignore that for this video this ariana grande

13:16 vibes top for dating a guy who you guys say looks

13:19 like pete davidson but i think he's just a white boy

13:22 who's sleep deprived which is almost the same thing but not

13:25 quite this shirt which i probably should not be wearing

13:28 as an atheist this top for when i spend a truly

13:30 obscene amount of time making over apartments that i will only

13:32 ever live in for one year and this top for when

13:35 i'm 50 flirty and trying to not so subtly signal

13:38 that i'm interested in younger men and that is all i

13:41 have for you guys thank you so much for watching my floor

13:44 has come full circle and is now once again a gigantic

13:47 pile of thrifted clothes it's the circle of life i

13:51 don't think any of those notes were correct i'm so sorry

13:53 thanks for watching and i'll see you guys soon [Music] bye
